0:00Betina is a mom of two and this is
0:03dexter her two-year-old son since last
0:06year the family have been trying to kick
0:09their plastic habit replacing bottles of
0:12shampoos and gels for more friendlier
0:15products I'd hate to think that my boys
0:17grew up in a world where they know
0:18nothing but a polluted planet
0:21Bettina has even shaken up her hand soap
0:24she now makes it at home and then stores
0:27it in an old bottle
0:29I guess I'm quite strict you know we
0:30just have toys at birth through an
0:33interruption it's a home delivery of
0:38vegetables almost entirely plastic free
0:42wrapped in plastic
0:44yeah so it's brilliant so yeah Bruford
0:47they're also really committed to cutting
0:49down on their plastic waste so it
0:51doesn't have to be hard work you know I
0:52get veggies delivered to me great but
0:57does all of this come at a higher cost
0:59there are certain things which are going
1:00to be more expensive but you know other
1:03things are cheaper so it kind of
1:04balances out I've worked I've worked out
1:07that over the course of the year my
1:08spending food-wise hasn't actually
1:10increased and the family have made real
1:13progress take the fridge for instance
1:15now almost 90% plastic free so as you
1:20can see a lot of glass so plastic milk
1:24bottles went out for glass delivered by
1:26the milkman yeah so this was bought from
1:28the deli as well just took the jar and
1:30they filled it up in the food cupboard
1:32items like rice aborts loose in the shop
1:35and put in a reusable bag
1:37it means plastic packaging is at a bare
1:41minimum here this the family's total
1:43plastic waste since Christmas in the
1:48next room we have a look at Dexter's
1:50toys almost all wooden although today
1:53and despite his mother's appeals he'd
1:56rather play on his plastic tractor what
2:02about your children because what if they
2:04want that chocolate bar wrapped in
2:06plastic what do you say to them no it's
2:10really simple I mean you know I
2:12pairen and they're my kids you know I
2:14think kids need boundaries you know I'm
2:16not you know I'm not I'm not a total
2:19Grinch you know I don't say no all the
2:20time my kids are healthy happy
2:22well-adjusted normal children but they
2:26can have an alternative for me
2:27personally I could never go back to
2:28living the way I did before it just
2:30doesn't sit right anymore
2:31and you know it's just all modes and
2:33upwards from here
