0:06newfoundland and that sounds rough and

0:08cold but in summer it's surprisingly

0:11colorful and inviting

0:13i'd seen beautiful places but nothing as

0:15beautiful as this

0:17the people here are fun-loving and show

0:19it

0:20[Music]

0:22they always make you

0:24feel like you're right

0:26anyone can become a new fund lender all

0:28you have to do is kiss a dead catfish

0:31[Music]

0:45atlantic surf meets jagged coastline

0:48this is typical for newfoundland

0:51the island in eastern canada

0:56[Music]

1:00in the province of newfoundland and

1:02labrador lived just half a million

1:04people

1:05on an area considerably larger than

1:08germany

1:13[Music]

1:15the avilan peninsula extends furthest

1:18into the atlantic ocean and is therefore

1:21the easternmost point of north america

1:28until summer icebergs pass close to

1:31avalon

1:32they break off from the polar ice far to

1:34the north and drift south as they melt

1:38[Music]

1:45one of them got in the way of the

1:46titanic not far from here

1:55the titanic's sos call reached cape race

1:58at the southern tip of avalon on the

2:0114th of april 1912.

2:04in such a wooden hut the radio operator

2:06who received the call for help and

2:08forwarded it to boats near the then

2:10largest ship in the world

2:13712 people could be saved in this way

2:17almost 1500 died

2:19the original radio

2:21hug no longer stands

2:23but a plaque reminds us of the legendary

2:25radio

2:26[Music]

2:31the titanic sank about 300 nautical

2:34miles south of cape race into her

2:37eternal tomb on the seafloor

2:40[Music]

2:43the avalon peninsula is also famous for

2:45its huge bird colonies home to the

2:48largest population of puffins in north

2:50america

2:51one of the favorite animals of canadians

2:54the chicks are fed by their parents for

2:57six weeks after hatching then they make

2:59their first flight down to the water

3:02and from then on they are fully fledged

3:05[Music]

3:10the problem some first flights are

3:13misleading and the chicks land on the

3:15coastal road especially at night always

3:18in early august

3:22[Music]

3:24a rescue team is meeting in a garage in

3:26whitler's bay

3:29so if you catch the bird it's important

3:31to to capture it by holding the wings

3:33like this because the bird's going to

3:35try to fly away so fold them with both

3:37wings

3:39and place them in the box

3:41sabina wilhelm is a biologist and

3:44practices with her daughters

3:46[Music]

3:48the puffin patrol was founded by a

3:50german jurgen xiao

3:52former german head of the hollywood

3:54studio

4:00and then we put the light give me place

4:03the thing

4:05put the light and say hello cutie

4:06everything is fine with you yeah we have

4:09him hold him

4:10so what we're doing then

4:12therefore you need the gloves just hold

4:14it a little bit with your hand of course

4:16leave it like so sometimes you need

4:18someone from the outside to realize you

4:20know what

4:21something's wrong like there shouldn't

4:22be all these little dead puffins on the

4:24road and so their role was really

4:27amazing that they recognized the problem

4:29they researched they figured out what to

4:31do and then they got the community

4:32involved

4:36so

4:37so he's now safe

4:38and

4:40he's not quiet at the moment he's still

4:43picking piggy piggy so you say something

4:45hello my little bird everything is fine

4:47you're going to be right naturally of

4:49course we know there are hundreds of

4:51thousands of birds out there but as in

4:53any society including humans there are

4:55always some who are a little late or do

4:58not make it immediately we have to give

5:00them a little help and that is what we

5:02do

5:02for no one i call you a puff and patrol

5:04bring a lot of good safe first home from

5:07now on i call you puffin patrol you are

5:09great and do a good job and bring the

5:10birth home thank you so much

5:13[Applause]

5:16there only one part of the puffin patrol

5:19the rookies

5:20in all there are dozens of volunteers

5:23out tonight

5:38going to actually drive to the next

5:39community down in tours cove

5:42and

5:42there's a hotel there that has a lot of

5:45lights and we often find puffins there

5:48but we'll just keep an eye as we drive

5:50along the road as well because you never

5:51know where they're going to pop up

5:57already after a few minutes something

5:59noticeable at the roadside

6:07oh no

6:12that's just it's just seaweed and a

6:13stick

6:16seaweed in a stick

6:18looks i get that toughest

6:44at fairyland lighthouse lemons play an

6:47important role for jill curran

6:49jill's grandfather was the last

6:51lighthouse keeper of fairyland

6:53when the lighthouse was no longer needed

6:55it fell into disrepair

6:57in 2002 jill quit her job in the oil

7:00industry renovated the building and

7:03misused the inventory

7:06i'm going to give you that back okay

7:08because that last group came in anyone

7:10else

7:12you're okay

7:17she's now welcoming guests for a very

7:19special picnic where the signal flags of

7:22the past are used again

7:26you take this flag and you put it in the

7:28ground next to you and that's how the

7:29servers will find you just don't go too

7:31far

7:33okay thank you

7:35originally we used to just send people

7:37out for picnics and we'd have person

7:40wearing red shirt you know someone

7:42wearing white you know jacket and it

7:44just got really kind of crazy and people

7:46would run back in and go oh i had a

7:48green jacket on but now i took it off

7:50and i'm wearing a blue shirt so we came

7:52up with the signal flag idea so all

7:54these signal flags would have been

7:55original signal flags were used at this

7:57lighthouse

8:00the complicated system is important

8:02as the hill is huge

8:05dozens come every day

8:07not least because of the homemade

8:09laminate

8:11there's a mix of

8:13six lemons to two oranges

8:15and then that's how and we mix it with

8:16like sugary water

8:20that's our signature drink olivia sorry

8:22i thought that was all

8:25no it's just joking the oranges do

8:27caught the tiredness in it so that's our

8:29secret isn't it yes

8:31yeah we're not allowed to give up

8:32measurements right now no no

8:35[Music]

8:37not only the laminators homemade

8:42every single picnic ingredient is

8:44freshly baked or cooked at the

8:45lighthouse

8:47no trouble rising here today in this one

8:53jill has thus created 12 jobs

8:57only women of all ages work here full

9:00time from may to october

9:05burb started off as a customer as well

9:08she said one day if he ever needs a hand

9:10let me know that was

9:12how many years ago 15. 15 years ago and

9:15she can't get out of her now we're not

9:16letting her go

9:23around half past 11 the first hungry

9:26people arrive

9:27but for the ladies of the lighthouse

9:29it's lunchtime now the obligatory break

9:32every noon before the lighthouse picnic

9:34starts at 12.

9:37[Music]

9:39[Laughter]

9:41and you can learn anything from how to

9:44turn a heel how to make jam what are

9:46other topics

9:48bit emojis change of life

9:52so it's a fun yeah it's a fun time

9:55before

9:56the madness

9:58ensues

9:59topics for three generations

10:03from 17

10:05to

10:0670 plus

10:08we have a lot of fun every day i think

10:09that's kind of the secret to why i think

10:12our business has been successful

10:15and has been for 17 years there will be

10:18plenty going on again today in fairyland

10:20[Music]

10:30the provincial capital saint john's has

10:32a good 100 000 inhabitants almost half

10:35of the population of avalon

10:37st john's is known for its colorful

10:39wooden houses built close to the steep

10:42streets

10:44[Music]

10:53in recent years a few gentlemen with

10:55long beards have also become local

10:57celebrities

10:59[Music]

11:08everyone in newfoundland i'm just gonna

11:10get my bangs worked out a little bit

11:11there

11:15hassan invented the calendar of the

11:17murphys

11:18male mermaids who want to do away with

11:21the common ideas of masculinity

11:25over here we have mark who's getting his

11:27haircut next to me actually

11:29having a great time and you know what

11:30he's not one to normally wear a tail in

11:32public and and he did it

11:36uh and here so we have phillip and we

11:38have taylor taylor is a trans man and so

11:42again it's

11:44you know he embraces his masculinity but

11:45it's a different version of that that

11:47traditionally people wouldn't normally

11:48have embraced and or have considered to

11:51be a real man and he absolutely is

11:55five years ago hassan had the idea for

11:57the cult calendar

11:59in the rough male world of newfoundland

12:01with many fishermen and all workers he

12:04had met some who were not able to cope

12:06with their role as husband father and

12:08partner who were unable to express their

12:11feelings or show weaknesses

12:14and so he founded the club of beards

12:23the last time i saw my face was five

12:25years ago

12:28the intention of the club is breaking

12:30down a lot of harmful masculine

12:32stereotypes what masculinity is supposed

12:34to look like what men are supposed to

12:36look like uh that they should be big

12:38muscular bearded guys the alpha male

12:41when in fact man and masculinity can

12:43look in many different ways

12:49just because someone wears a beard and

12:52they're you know a little bit bigger

12:53doesn't mean they're necessarily mean

12:55or you know like kind of grumpy for us

12:58to get out and wear mermaid tails on the

12:59beach

13:00it kind of it breaks that down for sure

13:03hassan doesn't have much time

13:05for the production of the next calendar

13:07a photo shooting is scheduled

13:10[Music]

13:14in the lighthouse of fairyland the

13:16women's team is now challenged

13:19[Music]

13:29dozens of picnic baskets have to go out

13:32sandwich either with roast beef or

13:34chicken salad

13:36cake and of course the homemade

13:42[Music]

13:46lemonade the search system with the

13:49signal flags is worth its weight in gold

13:52even when fog is rolling in and that

13:55happens here sometimes within minutes

14:00if you want to eat at the lighthouse you

14:02should be weatherproof

14:04even in mid-summer the temperatures

14:06rarely rise above 20 degrees

14:10[Music]

14:15for this you are occasionally rewarded

14:17with a view of a whale

14:19humpback whales like these are usually

14:21the ones that cavort here

14:35this lighthouse

14:37means really everything to me and i

14:40always thought growing up that it was

14:41the most beautiful place in the world

14:43and then when i moved away and traveled

14:45everywhere i went i still felt i'd seen

14:47beautiful places but nothing as

14:49beautiful as this

14:50and so i'm really happy all these years

14:52later to be back and giving people a

14:54reason to come and visit

15:01[Music]

15:08just a few miles away from fairyland is

15:11a fishing village with special rules

15:17the fishermen of petty harbour have

15:19imposed on themselves to use gnats only

15:22at least three nautical miles away from

15:24the harbour to protect the fish stock at

15:26their doorstep

15:27[Music]

15:33[Music]

15:37and something else is different at petty

15:39harbour

15:40every sunday kim oren and leo hearn

15:43teach young women here how to fish

15:45that's rare in canada

16:01you're my co-pilot

16:03okay

16:05you know politics yeah

16:07they drive when the captain falls off

16:10that's right but he falls asleep

16:11probably and you're a cop

16:13he takes over

16:15i say it's a day he saves the day

16:22so what we need to do is develop our

16:24knowledge enough so that we can kick him

16:26out of the boat right um right now he he

16:29has knowledge of the fishing grounds

16:31that virtually is 200 years worth of

16:33knowledge passed down from father to son

16:35father to son and uh they never taught

16:38the women

16:39leo's helping us

16:41and so until we get um

16:43the knowledge of the fishing

16:45spots we usually let leo drive just keep

16:47him happy

16:49yeah

16:50it's nice

16:53so is a parody going to hit over here

16:56jen you want to come up within the

16:57three-mile zone of petty harbor fishing

17:00is allowed only with hand lines

17:02and then you're just going to hold it

17:04still

17:06and then kim explains the technology

17:08lea's just supposed to be in charge he's

17:11not exactly in control of his hunting

17:12instincts though

17:27like [ __ ] yeah no i've seen it you've

17:30never seen nothing

17:32the young women are neighbors of leo and

17:34kim who want to learn the fishing trade

17:36rebecca nolan has been with them the

17:38longest

17:53perfect

17:54awesome so that just means it bleeds out

17:56faster and so it dies quicker yeah the

17:58meat looks better i like that now that

17:59i've learned enough that i can be

18:01teaching other people and i like that i

18:03can pass it on to another girl yeah

18:05i think girls think differently about

18:07the ocean and about fish

18:10jen's just laughing at leo making faces

18:13i think girls think differently about

18:15the oceans and fish and

18:18i don't know we have a lot of issues in

18:19the fishery right now over fishing and

18:22we've got microplastics and climate

18:24change and all that things

18:26and i don't know maybe we just need

18:27people who are thinking differently

18:33get off the line now leo move your foot

18:36leo

18:38actually leo's on her side

18:41the old fella didn't want him out on the

18:42boat because he would have seen like

18:44because they'd know we were having too

18:45much fun well they knew it was easy

18:47right

18:48and uh not easy it was hard work in the

18:49water but it was

18:51in in shoreline

18:53the women looked after all the children

18:55they meant to fish they cooked the meals

18:57they loved water from the whale because

18:59there was no running water they'd do all

19:01this work well you guys are out here

19:03having fun yeah well here having fun

19:05yeah when i was a kid growing up here i

19:06was told that girls didn't belong in

19:08boats

19:09so that that made me that that reminded

19:12me

19:12um

19:14we all belong in a boat

19:29[Music]

19:57fishing of course includes gutting

20:03so i usually start with the head facing

20:05right and then you cut behind the fin

20:08and you kind of go in an upward motion

20:10right behind and she'd end

20:13around there

20:15how you can kind of hear it

20:17as a guide

20:19and pull

20:20down

20:23not too far down

20:40[Music]

20:43the search for stray puffins continues

20:51it's the second night of the season they

20:53haven't found a puffin yet

21:04[Music]

21:08so

21:43there's something moving

21:45all right girls

21:46you have net pretty

21:52[Music]

22:00the young puffin can then be caught

22:02surprisingly easily his eyes are not yet

22:04properly trained

22:17the biggest value as a biologist that i

22:19see is that

22:21not necessarily rescuing but creating

22:23awareness and being more respectful with

22:26nature so i think it all ties in

22:28together but it starts with one single

22:29puppet

22:31their real destination this hotel

22:33complex broadly lit

22:36and the young puffin has lost its way

22:38here it flew three miles across the sea

22:41to the light instead of diving

22:53so these lights out here there's no you

22:55know there's no reason why they need to

22:56be on

22:58personally but you know it's not we

23:00can't enforce it we can only really

23:02encourage people to do it

23:05after all two puffins are now being put

23:08back where they belong

23:10[Music]

23:15along the coast of newfoundland there

23:17are countless small bays and fjords

23:20where the inhabitants lived from fishing

23:22for centuries

23:23even when there were no motorboats

23:30in places like winterton for example

23:32people rode out to the open sea

23:42the typical boats of newfoundland are

23:44the dorys with flat bottom and the

23:46rodneys

23:51in this garage in winterton someone

23:53knows everything about these boats

23:57jerome canning is teaching a family from

23:59florida how to build a boat with their

24:02hands

24:04okay so

24:05let's go

24:06tighten this one

24:08den barter and his two daughters faith

24:10and jesse want to trace their roots by

24:12building such a boat

24:14their ancestors lived here in

24:15newfoundland

24:17a little bit just a little bit more on

24:18this side yeah

24:21hold it holding yeah

24:24what i want to do is reproduce history

24:27that you know he took me out as a you

24:30know my grandfather when i become a

24:32grandfather i want to take off my

24:34grandchild in the boat that we built

24:36here so i just remember that's one of my

24:39earliest memories here in newfoundland

24:41is that he came and took me out to jig

24:45some cod

24:46okay what we're really always doing is

24:48just what dan did we're feel and look no

24:50measuring tape so we can

24:52avoid the measuring tape as much as we

24:54can so we rely on our other senses our

24:58eyes our feel yeah okay everything

25:08now i came into boat building because my

25:11father

25:12he went back fishing and i went fishing

25:14with him and he said to me you can't

25:16stay at fishing drone oh because there's

25:18too many because my two brothers also

25:21came with me

25:22and when they

25:23said our boat is too small we need

25:25another boat

25:26i said i'll build one

25:29jerome had 11 siblings in all he has

25:32been building boats for 40 years

25:35we're gonna put a clamp on the right

25:36here

25:37okay

25:38all right can we take this i'm gonna

25:39mark it yep

25:44it is

25:46incredibly difficult to find

25:48these pieces

25:50here

25:52okay so what we do we laminate

25:55this one is glued to that one which is

25:56glued to this one which is glued and so

25:58on ten of them

26:00they're pressed in a jig and that will

26:02give them shape

26:05okay in the past these bent timbers had

26:07to be laboriously sought in the forests

26:10of newfoundland this is the knee we cut

26:11a number of years ago

26:14so that would sit

26:16this would be anchored into the ground

26:18and this will be coming up into the

26:20trunk

26:22where to find such a piece of wood

26:24the bartus will learn

26:30[Music]

26:38[Music]

26:48near saint john's a photo shoot for the

26:50next calendar of the murbys the male

26:52mermaids is pending the august model is

26:56matthew cooper

26:57a huge guy father of two sons

27:01and many misjudge him

27:04i'm a really big dude and growing up

27:06downtown st john's there was a lot of

27:08people were like you're really tall so

27:10i'm going to kick the crap out of you

27:11because you're a fighter and i'm like no

27:13i'm not a little boy

27:15i want to go home and play with my lego

27:18so the idea of taking back masculinity

27:21is huge

27:22especially taking the toughness and the

27:24violence out of masculinity

27:26i think is

27:28amazing

27:30i hate the idea of a real man

27:33that's such a stupid thing

27:38with the costumes and poses the murphys

27:40want to show that men also have

27:42vulnerable and emotional sides

27:53matthew you're so beautiful and you know

27:55it you know it too

27:56you're coy you look at the camera you

27:59know how beautiful you are you know how

28:01beautiful you are

28:02god

28:05not taking manhood so seriously makes

28:08life easier

28:11the stereotypes of what masculinity have

28:13been like uh

28:15result in men being unable to process

28:17emotion

28:18and

28:48[Music]

28:50the august photo is in the box

28:52now the final motifs have to be

28:54determined

28:59in winterton they are looking for the

29:01right tree to provide a boat rib

29:04jerome the boat builder gets to help

29:06himself to a friends rip in the forest

29:09put

29:10that knee in behind is the good one yeah

29:12we're gonna have to clear it we're gonna

29:14have to follow it this way

29:16jerome wants to show his customers every

29:18step of traditional boat building

29:23this is the one we're trying to get this

29:24is the big more that we like to have

29:26right here

29:28only those who actually carry a piece of

29:30wood from the forest may claim to have

29:32built a boat according to old father's

29:34custom and that's what dan barter and

29:37his daughters want

29:39the reason i keep coming back is because

29:41of the spirit of acceptance

29:44there's a

29:46culture here that is just really warm

29:48and receptive

29:49and they always make you

29:51feel like you're at home

29:53and that's why i keep coming back even

29:55though my grandfather's passed on

30:04okay so we're going to cut here

30:06in here yeah and here

30:08okay you're going to watch it yeah

30:13[Music]

30:18if you imagine the chainsaw wasn't here

30:20you know how difficult boat building

30:22really was in the past

30:30[Music]

30:37nice

30:3829 30 31 32 33. it's 33 years old faith

30:43same age as you same age as you so get

30:46that

30:48so

30:49that's appropriate for the boat huh

30:53you feel bad for you know taking down

30:55such a beautiful tree but at the same

30:57time to have that piece of wood live on

31:00forever in your boat for people to enjoy

31:03for you know

31:05years and years to come okay we're doing

31:07good the boat building of the bartus

31:09takes three weeks a special kind of

31:12annual holiday

31:17[Music]

31:48before the puffin patrol brings the

31:50puffins back to the water they have to

31:52weigh the birds for scientific

31:54evaluation

32:10[Music]

32:12how much

32:13wow minus 30. so 325 320. 325.

32:19325 grams that's massive see how it

32:22looks yes where did you get all the

32:24seeds

32:26big boy oh girl

32:30hey you're biggie one

32:31soon you will be in the water yay

32:35we just put a little rock in the water

32:38but the waves are so high and now we do

32:40have such a great help and

32:43i think it's now in good hands and time

32:45for airfield for me myself to say

32:48goodbye my darling i did my job now the

32:50young people should do this right yeah

32:57seventeen puffins were picked up by the

32:59puffin patrol last night in total

33:01several hundred birds are saved every

33:04august

33:11[Music]

33:16now the helpers are taking them to the

33:18place where they started their flight

33:19last night to gul island

33:22gal island they call it for a reason

33:25but the gulls have to share the island

33:27they live mainly in the steep

33:37so these cliffs slopes here are all

33:39puffin burrows

33:44the puffins need the steep slopes to

33:46take off

33:47they cannot take off in flat terrain

33:54this is where it gets exciting

33:56and dangerous for the young puffins if

33:59they don't die fast they'll be easy prey

34:02for the gulls

34:06the great blind bag dolls definitely

34:08pray they they like to take opportunity

34:10to pray on larger chicks especially

34:11these nicely fat puffin chicks is

34:14certainly a preferred prey item

34:17[Music]

34:20puffins are born to dive less to fly the

34:23first dive of their life is coming up

34:26they have to go down or they'll be eaten

34:35[Music]

34:38that's it

34:39underwater they're fast and maneuverable

34:42that's where they should have been

34:43yesterday instead of on the coast road

34:49this is the first time that they've

34:51actually landed in water going okay this

34:53is where i'm supposed to be i know what

34:54to do now whereas when you thought when

34:56we go look for them at the streets they

34:58look really confused they're like what

34:59am i doing here i don't know what to do

35:00i can't dive so

35:02absolutely this is where they or where

35:04they want to be

35:07[Music]

35:09[Applause]

35:11[Music]

35:14it's a holiday in new perlicon

35:17so i think i'd like for you and jordan

35:18to christen these boats if you wouldn't

35:20mind if you'd be so kind

35:23there you go

35:25let's hear it for jerome cannon he built

35:28the boats

35:32you've done a fantastic job with these

35:33boats and your dedication to your job

35:35and your

35:37how particular you are the shows in your

35:38work so again we'd like to thank you for

35:40the beautiful job

35:44the community of new pearlicon wanted

35:47new dories because no one else

35:49participated in the annual regatta the

35:51old boats were just too hard to stay

35:54this is the first time i've ever built

35:56the door building quite a few over the

35:58years that we put a rudder on it

36:00and a keel

36:02paul said that he wanted to make sure

36:04inexperienced roar could keep a straight

36:06line when rolling so the keel and the

36:08rudder aid that straight line and the

36:10rudder aids to turning at the border

36:12[Music]

36:15the new boats are a great success with

36:17villagers putting their oars to each

36:19other all day long

36:2113 teams that hasn't been seen in years

36:24[Music]

36:52in the women's competition the youngest

36:54ones win

36:55the girls are only 14 and 15 and the

36:58whole village is having fun

37:00thanks to jerome canning's new books

37:29on the outskirts of saint john's the

37:31final photo selection for the murby

37:33calendar is pending hassan and his art

37:35director kourtney wells have to make

37:37some tricky decisions awesome

37:40ready to dive in

37:42yes let's get this thing finished

37:45so here's the cover with all the edited

37:47images um i don't know if yes

37:50um

37:52yeah and so if i keep um going back and

37:55forth on this one

37:56it was this one one serious was shot at

37:59the picnic at the lighthouse

38:01kourtney is unsure whether she wants to

38:03see lemonade or tea in the hands of the

38:05merman this one

38:06is very like front-facing i think the

38:08teacups just add that little something i

38:11think seeing the teacups really adds

38:13like a layer or a dimension i guess of

38:15like

38:16right sensitivity

38:18and stuff i'm pretty sure

38:21the choice is not without its price as

38:24the calendars are extremely popular in

38:26newfoundland

38:27last year more than 200 000 dollars were

38:29collected and donated to an association

38:32to combat domestic violence

38:34in the sunset it was actually incredible

38:37i think it started when we first did the

38:39calendar uh it was just like the thumbs

38:41up or thumbs down we like the photos

38:43as we've had a different caliber of

38:45photographer so we have better quality

38:48photos to choose from

38:49with three calendars in

38:51you start getting an eye for what is a

38:53good photo what people are really going

38:55to respond to and just ultimately what

38:57is beautiful like what's a beautiful

38:58image

39:01with the photos of matthew and the

39:03riverbed the two of them have a

39:04particularly hard time

39:15i actually quite enjoyed this one as

39:17well this one is great okay let's just

39:19let's cycle through a couple of them

39:20there

39:21okay that one

39:22they're so good i know this is a great

39:25shoe how many one month is august august

39:27can we just extend august and have like

39:28multiple pages

39:30who knows september october that no one

39:32no one likes those monsters

39:34yeah i like this one

39:37okay so we locked into that one

39:42[Music]

39:48do

39:50[Music]

40:00so

40:03[Music]

40:15when the sun sets before newfoundland

40:17it's time for rituals

40:19this includes the kitchen party and one

40:22thing is not to be missed

40:27the ugly stick

40:30at the top a fantasy head then a bunch

40:33of crown caps

40:39and below necessarily the rubber boot a

40:42musical instrument that only exists here

40:47it's a lot of fun and it's enjoyed a lot

40:50in a lot of houses when you go visiting

40:53but this one this one was made out of a

40:55mop they used it they used glasses a

40:58pipe

40:59which the pipe when i play i usually put

41:01my fingers

41:02through here that way my hand don't slip

41:04down the stick but the real question is

41:07how long did it take you to do this and

41:08how much consumption does it require

41:14rubbing is like this

41:18then could do with a few more lessons on

41:20the ugly stick

41:22pretty ugly wasn't it

41:31[Music]

41:35but the highlight of the evening is

41:37still coming up edgar then son-in-law

41:40has never been to newfoundland and is

41:42therefore being naturalized tonight

41:45i get you henry newfoundlanders so you

41:47can show how foolish it is

41:48[Laughter]

41:50okay

41:52come over here now

41:56kiss the cod

41:58whoever kisses the dead [ __ ] is declared

42:01a newfoundlander

42:03but only if he also drinks jamaica rum

42:06of the worst kind in one goal

42:12and they call it screech because every

42:14time you drink it you drink a drinkwood

42:16disco drinkers went ah

42:19screeches are coming out of them like

42:20that right

42:22you're so bad yeah yeah

42:24right

42:25but now this is this is properly

42:27distilled now i mean

42:29you're gonna have a wimp shot an average

42:31shot or a new fee shot so anchor with

42:33the new fee shot new fish shot at

42:35gagomas takes the noofy swallow and

42:38becomes a newfoundlander cheers

42:46[Applause]
