The Star Wars cup mystery
0:00All I keep finding are what people say
0:02who have it on eBay. Is that really
0:03that? Hold on. So then you got the
0:05Millennium Falcon.
0:07That's all right.
0:11>> How does it know that?
0:13>> It knows. AI is telling you what it is
0:15based off of
0:16>> The image that Yeah, yeah.
0:17>> what the seller is saying it is. And
0:19that's wrong. If anybody knows anything
0:21about it,
0:22he probably does.
0:25Do you want to know what's really cool?
0:27>> What's really cool?
0:28>> Star Wars cups.
A sleeve of strange cups
0:29>> You're right.
0:30>> So a guy walked in with a sleeve of
0:31these. I spent like three or four hours,
0:34maybe five or six hours, trying to
0:35figure this out. Because then you're
0:36like, oh, Return of the Jedi Coca-Cola.
0:39It's got to be, I don't know, 7-Eleven,
0:42a movie theater. Like what is it?
0:45But then it says 1985.
0:47And I was like, well, Jedi came out in
0:49'83.
0:51So why is it Jedi and it's '85?
Why does it say 1985?
0:54But then the figures here,
0:56some Imperial Dignitary or pop-up R2.
0:59You know, so A-wing,
1:02so you know, Luke poncho. So then if you
1:04look here, grand prize, it was a Star
1:06Wars toy collection.
1:08First prize is that ride-on speeder
1:10bike. So it was like a big wheel speeder
1:12bike that you could win, which is
1:14really, really rare. And then I don't
1:16know, then just second prize you get an
1:17action figure, you know, not a big deal.
1:19Third prize you get a poster. So when I
The prizes hidden on the cup
1:21Google this, all I keep finding
1:24are what people say who have it on eBay.
1:26So it's Jawa, Kenobi, stormtrooper So
1:29you got stormtrooper. So yeah, we just
1:31didn't have Leia in there. Is that all
1:33we were missing? 2 4 6 7 7 8
1:379 10.
1:39Yeah, so there was 10 10 10 were in the
1:41case. We just didn't have uh Kenobi and
1:44Leia. And Leia's I just don't have clean
1:46Leia's and Kenobi's I don't have sabers.
1:48>> Uh so
1:50Kenobi's [clears throat]
1:51the saber.
1:52>> I mean, I have a million
1:54nice Kenobi's. It's like he didn't get
1:56played with as hard as
1:58some of the other stuff.
2:00But like C-3PO's tough.
2:03Like this one's stiff.
2:05Like normally
2:06>> Yeah, they
2:07>> He's He's, you know.
2:09>> No, he looked good.
2:09>> So, he's tight and clean. So, that's
2:13usually
2:14It's cuz I mean you're paying top dollar
2:16for that one. I mean, this one I've sold
2:19some of these higher, but it's pretty
2:21white.
2:22You know, so it's in good shape.
2:25The Vader
2:26It's clean. It's nice. You know, got a
2:28little bit of a curling. It's just the
2:30sabers are getting tough.
2:33And this is a pretty decent R2.
2:3560 bucks. I mean, good chrome. Pretty
2:38white sticker.
2:41But yeah, the Lukes
2:43are real short.
2:45Even the Chewy's real nice. Look at the
2:47nice
2:48eyes.
2:51Cuz usually the bandolier, this is all
2:52going to be worn.
2:55This paint will be worn off. So, I mean,
2:57these are just really
2:59But I mean, for it to go in the case,
3:00it's got to be nice. That really that?
3:02Hold on.
3:05>> [snorts]
3:06>> Is it really real?
3:07>> Well, it seemed a little high. So, let
3:08me uh
3:09>> Well, it is vintage.
Pricing the Star Wars haul
3:10>> Yeah, but it's not that many figures
3:11here. And you wanted to put down how
3:13much?
3:14>> What's the total?
3:15>> It's 590.
3:21Oh, you're just going to grab it?
3:22>> I'll just grab it.
3:22>> 550.
3:24>> Sold.
3:24>> Take it. Take it now. Take it now price.
3:27Boom.
3:28That's how we do it here. But you know,
3:30there's Luke Stormtroopers not on here.
3:32But anyway, so I'm Googling this and
3:33people are saying
3:35Kenner cuz it does say Kenner
3:38sweepstakes
3:40final 17. Not last 17, final 17.
Why the internet got it wrong
3:44Uh
3:47But the information on eBay is only as
3:49good as the person who put put it. So,
3:51if they don't know
3:52AI is feeding its pop
3:56AI is telling you what it is based off
3:58of
3:59>> The image that Yeah, yeah.
4:00>> what the seller is saying it is.
4:01>> Yeah.
4:02>> That's what they're referencing, and
4:03that's wrong.
4:04>> Yeah.
4:05>> So, then I'm researching, I'm
4:06researching, I'm researching.
4:09And then I remember there's this guy,
4:11this Gus Lopez.
4:13And that guy has like one of everything
4:14Star Wars.
4:16And he has this really good reference
4:18site. I think it's
4:20like the Star Wars Collectors Archive, I
4:22could be wrong. And I was like, if
4:23anybody knows anything about it,
4:26he probably does. So, he has
4:27>> the toothpick?
4:28>> Vader? No, no, that's that's Stephen
Searching the Collector’s Archive
4:30Sansweet.
4:30>> Okay. All right.
4:32>> Uh
4:33but I remember when I got my Star Wars
4:35pitch coin way, way, way back when I
4:37reached out to him.
4:38Uh and he answered. But he has like
4:40he catalogs everything.
4:42So,
4:44I go to his site, and then you could
4:45keyword search. So, I did Coca-Cola.
4:48And everything Coca-Cola would come up.
4:50And then there's a lot of Coca-Cola.
4:53And then I saw
4:54then I got to get Coca-Cola Return of
4:56the Jedi.
4:59And then I found this one image
5:02cuz I was like, how can I not find the
5:03solicitation or the thing advertising
5:05this promotion? What is this from?
5:08>> Yeah.
5:09>> The guy who sold it to me thought it was
5:11a popcorn bucket. And I was like,
5:12Coca-Cola is not going to make a popcorn
5:14bucket. Maybe they would, but that
5:15doesn't make sense to me. This is
5:17probably a large
5:18Coke.
5:19>> What it looks like to me.
5:20>> But now these are on eBay, and they're
5:22the skinnier cups.
5:23>> Right.
5:25>> So, this is probably the large cup.
5:26>> Right.
5:27>> Uh
5:28and then since the Power of the Force
5:30figures, these figures were in '85.
5:33>> Mhm.
5:34>> From what I'm realizing or reading, at
5:36least according to the internet, is that
5:37they re-released
5:39which I don't know if this is true, but
5:41they re-released Jedi in '85
5:45in a promotion of move this product, cuz
5:47see this line didn't do well.
5:48>> Yeah.
5:50So, would it this have been at like
5:51theaters?
5:52>> It's got to be.
5:53>> Yeah.
5:54>> But see, it
5:58I have a picture of the poster, cuz I
6:00screenshot it. So, this is the poster.
6:04I don't even know if we can see this as
6:05well.
The Coca-Cola/Kenner poster
6:08But this is the promotion
6:10for this contest.
6:13Now, where you would see this poster, I
6:14don't know.
6:16So, then it would says, "Win Star
6:18Coca-Cola
6:20Drink Coca-Cola and win Star Wars toys
6:22by Kenner. Match any So, there'd be a
6:24game piece on the bottom.
6:26There is no game piece here, but then
6:28it'll tell you
6:30there's a game piece on the bottom.
6:32But this is a whole sleeve. I doubt the
6:34guy So, I don't know if
6:37why they don't have a game piece.
6:40And the
6:41But then So, then the figures you got
6:45the grand prize, you got all the last 17
6:48figures
6:49plus some additional figures.
6:53Star Wars collection. See, I mean,
6:54there's
6:56you know, you Luke Stormtrooper, a man
6:58in a man, Lando General, Han in
7:00Carbonite.
7:02I don't see Yak Face. Do you see Yak
7:03Face?
7:05Probably not, cuz that wasn't released
7:06in America.
7:07>> Yeah.
7:07>> And then there's that goofy
7:10There's that goofy ride on.
7:12>> Yeah.
7:12>> So cool. Look at that kid. He's leaning
7:14forward.
7:15He's got his hat on.
7:18>> And you hung that from a a tree or
7:19something.
7:20>> figure, I don't know if you got Lando
7:21General or it's a a figure of their
7:23choosing. And then there there's the
7:24poster. Which this poster reminds me of
7:27that High-C poster
7:28that we used to have.
7:29>> Right there.
7:30Yeah, right.
7:31>> Oh, but it isn't. It's different.
7:33That's a different poster.
7:35>> But that's the Yeah, that one's the
7:36High-C. Yeah.
7:37>> Right.
7:38So, anyway,
7:39and And there's
7:41the cup
7:43with the arrow pointing down and then
7:44it'd be the circle down here.
Solving the mystery
7:48So at least I finally found something.
7:52Hello.
7:59It works.
8:08That does not work.
8:10Yes, so these are
8:14well played with.
8:20Well played with.
8:20>> Yes, sir.
Vintage Starbird and toy finds
8:33>> That's cool.
8:35Ooh, Starbird.
8:42So this is Milton Bradley Starbird.
8:46And
8:47you're just missing a little engine here
8:49and then there's a gun
8:50a little turret ball turret.
8:52>> And that actually still works. I put a
8:54battery in it last night. You know how
8:55you do it.
8:55>> Oh, and then the battery cover.
8:56>> Yeah, the battery cover.
8:57>> Yes, so then you hold it up and then it
8:59the escalation sound and then you go
9:00down and then it's
9:01>> No, it
9:02>> He [clears throat] demonstrated it for
9:03you last night.
9:03>> Yeah. Oh, yeah.
9:04>> I had this as a kid. I love this.
9:06And then the bad guy version's the
9:08Intruder and it's black, so then you got
9:09the Millennium Falcon.
9:14That's all right. These are very very
9:16sturdy pieces.
9:17>> Oh, yeah.
9:18>> Oh, so you do have the arm at least.
9:23If I can
9:24>> Now, what was that for? I never I never
9:25really knew what that was.
9:27>> So this is the training arm.
9:29There'd be a little string and a little
9:31disco ball.
9:32And that's how Luke practiced training
9:34when he had the visor on.
9:36>> I got you.
9:37>> He's like, "I can't see anything with
9:38the blast shield helmet on."
9:39>> Okay.
9:40>> And he's like, "You got to
9:41search your feelings."
9:42>> Okay.
9:44>> So, then these are usually broke, so
9:46those aren't broke.
9:49If I can get it off and that.
9:51>> Oh, yeah, I had to have those as a kid,
9:53no doubt.
9:54>> Come on, buddy.
9:57Trap door.
10:04I'm going to get it out. And then
10:06usually this is broke.
10:07>> Okay.
10:08>> So, that's not. So, yeah, your Falcon's
10:09in pretty good shape. $125.
10:13That's fine.
10:14I have this engine piece.
10:16>> Oh, good deal.
10:17>> I have the ball.
10:18>> Yeah, I was surprised that it still
10:19worked.
10:20But, these none of these I put batteries
10:22in these and they didn't work.
10:24>> Cuz this comes off.
10:25>> Yeah.
10:26>> And then you get to play with that. But,
10:32and then when you do
10:38It does.
10:40So, when you're a kid, you're just doing
10:41all this.
10:44>> And you press the button and it'll fire.
10:46>> I forget where the button is.
10:48>> I think it's right here.
10:54>> Yeah.
10:56So, you're you're the king of the block
10:57with this. So, then so then it was the
10:59Star Wars Collectors Archive, and that's
More clues from the deal
11:01the site I was referencing. And then
11:02when I typed Coca-Cola,
11:05I get all this.
11:07And that's where I went to United States
11:09Return of the Jedi.
11:13And then it was
11:15Coca-Cola Kenner Star Wars toy poster.
11:17And then there's that poster.
11:20So, at least that's the promotion for
11:21this. Again,
11:23was it anywhere Coca-Cola was sold?
11:24Like, could you go to Godfather's Pizza?
11:27Remember that?
11:28>> Yeah.
11:28>> You ever go to Godfather's Pizza? And
11:29then they had
11:30you got a large Coke, this is the cup
11:32they used, and you can win something.
11:33There was other stuff in this deal. I
11:35think it was five or six hundred bucks.
11:37But I got a Bigfoot, $6,000 man Bigfoot
11:39with no chest piece and the Venus spy
11:41probe.
11:42No, 700. It was 700.
11:45And the Venus probe is missing stuff.
11:48Uh, we got one in the box over there.
11:50Uh,
11:51but I was like,
11:52"I don't really know what they're
11:53worth."
11:55And he thought it was a popcorn bucket.
11:57I think I'm asking 30 bucks for them.
