0:32channel members my patreons my super
0:34thanks donors and to my participants
0:37thank you for being
0:39here um like usual I had a bit of a a
0:43hectic flustered start here so hopefully
0:45uh you can hear me and see me okay um if
0:48you're watching this you should see a
0:50chat box somewhere in the vicinity get
0:51in the chat box and uh let me know what
0:54you're struggling with what questions
0:56you have and I will do my best to help
0:58you out um the title of this episode is
1:04how to break into an industry from the
1:07outside uh so we're going to be talking
1:10about that uh that's going to be the
1:11main topic of today but first we're
1:13going to cover a question that several
1:15people asked me since last week so I
1:17thought I would answer it here it's do
1:20employers like you having a side hustle
1:23okay that's something that several
1:25people were wondering so we're going to
1:26cover that um and if you like what I do
1:31and you are a regular viewer of me
1:32consider joining my channel uh and that
1:35way you can get more closer uh you can
1:38get closer to me yes that's that's let's
1:40leave it at that uh I pay attention to
1:43what my channel members say and the
1:45topics they want me to cover so uh so if
1:47you want to have some uh influence over
1:50that consider doing that okay um okay
1:54before we get started before we get
1:56started I just want to share something
1:57that's totally out there um I think
1:59think I have seen the absolute worst
2:03song ever performed ever on any medium
2:07and I was watching Revenge of the Nerds
2:10too uh yesterday I know uh and that
2:13actually wasn't a bad movie but they had
2:16a uh I want I don't know what you call
2:18it a musical number a video in it the
2:21worst thing I've ever seen and that's
2:22saying something I've seen a lot of crap
2:24in my time but uh but this was this was
2:26without parallel so if ever you've seen
2:29that movie or if you've seen it let me
2:31know if you agree just something totally
2:33random there uh okay um let's get on
2:37with it so let's talk about the question
2:39a couple people asked me do employers
2:41like you having a side hustle short
2:44answer no no they don't and uh let me
2:48break it down for you listen if you're
2:50the type of person who's doing a side
2:53hustle you've got something going on the
2:55side and it's profitable even if it
2:58isn't profitable or isn't profitable yet
3:01okay I want to tell you something you
3:04were awesome and you are expanding your
3:08potential and your your knowledge in
3:11ways that these these people can't even
3:14dream about okay so it's something
3:16incredibly valuable I applaud you for
3:18doing it it is a very useful skill and
3:21you should rightly feel very proud of
3:23yourself and the natural thing that goes
3:26with that is that you want to tell
3:28people about this thing that you're
3:29doing because you're proud of it and you
3:32believe it's you know a talking point
3:34which it is however
3:38okay coming from the other side of the
3:40table okay as a former employer I can
3:42give you the employer's perspective on
3:44this and uh they don't like hearing this
3:48for the following reason it's because
3:51you see they know that in a pinch your
3:55loyalties are divided if youve got a
3:58side hustle go on the side and you've
4:00got your day job okay the question is
4:04where do your loyalties lie if you have
4:06to choose between them and you have to
4:07choose between them all the time okay uh
4:10for
4:11example even even this even goes into
4:14like a theoretical sense that when you
4:16come home after work you should be
4:18resting and recuperating and recharging
4:21yourself for the next day at work okay
4:23in theory right I know that's a kind of
4:25dumb way to look at it but but in theory
4:27that's what should be going on from the
4:29employer perspect perspective and the
4:30problem is if that you're putting in
4:34more hours of work to something else
4:37that in theory can take you away from
4:40giving your all to your day job also the
4:44other assumption going here is that um
4:47if you had to choose between your day
4:49job and a side
4:50hustle ultimately in the end your
4:53preference is going to be for your side
4:55hustle because it's something that you
4:57created yourself it's en irely 100% your
5:02vision and you do it entirely on your
5:05own terms and um you're always going to
5:08choose that over working under somebody
5:11else's thumb okay even if your day job
5:14makes you a lot more money or something
5:16what you would like is you would like to
5:18make your money through your side hustle
5:20that's that's the assumption that all
5:22employers are going to make right and
5:24there's some truth in
5:26this so the problem is if um if you go
5:29to a job interview or something or or
5:31you talk to your boss one day and you
5:32mention oh yeah I've got this uh I got
5:35this thing going on the side at home you
5:37know that's really where my passion and
5:39my energy is going to um they're going
5:42to see that as a negative because it
5:44from their perspective it takes you away
5:45from your job okay so for that
5:49reason I would not volunteer to your
5:53employer that you are doing a side
5:55hustle or you are trying to do a side
5:57hustle because even even though it's
6:01something very very good and you deserve
6:03to be proud of and you naturally want to
6:05tell everybody uh they will not see it
6:08as a good thing okay U because it's not
6:10in their best interest it should be but
6:13it's not okay and I can tell you that
6:16from the perspective of an employer I
6:18think those skills are incredibly
6:19valuable I would rather hire people that
6:23alongside their technical skills they
6:25also have business skills and they
6:27understand business they understand
6:29what's important to business they
6:32understand the priorities and how
6:33everything fits together that's a
6:34tremendous advantage over employees that
6:36just don't have a clue about that stuff
6:39because they've never ever been in that
6:41world right the problem is is that it's
6:44the loyalties thing that sour it in the
6:48eyes of an employer they don't want to
6:51encourage you and groom you and support
6:53you and Build You Up only to have you
6:55leave and take all that expertise to
6:57your own side Hustle they want those
7:01expertise to stay working for them okay
7:04so that's what's going on there that's
7:06why even though you are tempted to talk
7:09about it and evangelize
7:11it uh in your place of employment your
7:15day job you shouldn't okay so so that's
7:18uh my take on that hopefully that makes
7:20sense um let's let's get to some
7:24questions very very quickly before I
7:25move on to our main topic which is uh
7:27breaking into an industry from the
7:29outside side uh Timothy Matthew is
7:32here um Timothy starting a
7:35job
7:37okay okay um Avid Runner is here good
7:42morning to Avid Runner and uh thus is
7:45here says hi Bill can you please tell us
7:47how to crack face-to-face interview for
7:49an assistant electrical manager for
7:51manufacturing industry well that's not
7:53really what we're talking about today
7:55this is about side hustles and
7:56entrepreneur entrepreneurship I do a
7:58live stream later today where we talk
7:59about uh how to get a job and stuff like
8:02that so uh so so check that
8:06out okay so how to break into an
8:09industry from the outside now what do I
8:12mean by the outside this is something
8:13that a lot of a situation that a lot of
8:15people are
8:16in and I have had some firsthand
8:19experience with
8:20this as well as advising people and
8:24companies on on doing this um it is
8:28incredibly hard to break into an
8:30industry from an outs from the outside
8:32the way to do it is to get onto the
8:34inside and then break in now uh let me
8:36give you an example
8:38okay let's pretend let's pretend that
8:42you have an ambition you have you have a
8:44hobby okay or a passion and let's say
8:47it's something like I don't know the
8:49fashion industry like you know a lot of
8:53guys do uh fashionist Tre maybe making
8:56clothes making apparel okay you want to
8:58get into f fashion you want to get into
9:00making your own clothes selling them not
9:03just uh as a utilitarian thing but as
9:05like a fashion thing okay which would
9:07allow you to make a lot more money and
9:09it's very lucrative if you can pull it
9:10off the problem is is that maybe you're
9:14stuck in a a location in the world where
9:17there's not a very big fashion
9:20industry right and the problem is is
9:24you're wanting to break into that
9:27industry but you're you you never worked
9:30in the fashion industry you don't have
9:33family members that are in the fashion
9:36industry um you're not a part of the
9:39fashion industry really there isn't a
9:41big presence where you are so that's
9:43what I mean when I say you want to break
9:45in into an industry from the outside
9:47you're on the outside okay you're not in
9:49the bright Center of that industry and
9:52you're right inside it
9:55okay so everything that you do is based
9:58on assumptions and guess work okay you
10:02assume that it works a certain way and
10:06you're guessing that if you do a certain
10:09thing that will lead to some positive
10:11results right but you don't know any of
10:14this from personal experience you
10:16haven't seen it you haven't had proof
10:19that these things are in fact true okay
10:23and that's the challenge you're up
10:25against okay that's what I mean by
10:28breaking into into an industry from the
10:31outside okay now doesn't mean it can't
10:33be done it can be done but you've got to
10:35do an extra step which is to get on the
10:38inside first because breaking in from
10:41the outside is incredibly difficult if
10:43you just sort of launch your uh clothes
10:46you say say you've created a line of
10:49clothing okay you've designed the
10:51clothes you can manufacture them
10:54yourself or at least the equivalent of a
10:56prototype or proof of concept you you
10:58can start manufacturing them
11:01yourself in theory you could ramp that
11:03up if it if there was demand for it and
11:06you can make money at it um but the
11:09question is how to get your presence out
11:12there how to be taken seriously how to
11:14create connections um and so on how how
11:17to reach your
11:19market and so everything you're doing to
11:21further that is guesswork because you
11:23don't know how to reach a market how do
11:24you reach a market let's say you're
11:26stuck in what's what's the most remote
11:28place you could imagine Billings Montana
11:32Boise Idaho I don't know um those are
11:35both in the US there's places outside
11:37the US you could go to bootstrap
11:39Saskatchewan I don't know but uh you
11:42know H how would you how would you do
11:43this like you don't know the fashionist
11:45you've never been in the fashion hisry
11:47let's talk about that okay so here's my
11:51what I would advise if you came to me
11:54saying okay I need to do this how do I
11:56do it my first advice would be you have
11:58to get into that business you have to
12:01get on the
12:03inside okay that's the first thing trust
12:06me if you don't it will be very tough
12:11goinging um because everything you're
12:13doing is based on guesswork you need to
12:15get clarity you need to get information
12:17about how things actually work and then
12:19once you know how things work you need
12:20to be able to have the means to make
12:23them happen right and in order to do
12:25that you need
12:28help okay okay you need to be endorsed
12:30by people you need to be included by
12:32people you need to be known by people
12:34etc etc so how do you break into that
12:37industry well for a start let's talk
12:40about the Geography okay geographic
12:42regions
12:43here where is the fashion industry
12:46located I know nothing about the fashion
12:48industry as you can tell from what you
12:50see you know nothing more stylish than
12:54than this
12:56um where is it located I think it's
12:59located in Paris right possibly
13:03Milan and I imagine in the United States
13:06New York right that that's kind of the
13:09impression I
13:10get so if you're not in any of those
13:13places and you're not even close to them
13:17I would highly recommend that you
13:18develop a presence in those places
13:21usually that's going to take the form of
13:23you moving there if this if you're
13:24serious about doing this you would want
13:26to move there youd want to be in the
13:28center of where these industries are
13:30because that's where things happen I
13:32know it's kind of cliched and people
13:34hate hearing this but it's absolutely
13:36true you can slog it out for 10 years
13:40you know in some remote location where
13:43everything is stacked against you or you
13:46can go to where it's happening where the
13:47people are that can help you where the
13:49resources are where the people with
13:51knowledge and connections are you can go
13:54there and that's what I'd recommend I
13:56would take the plunge however ever hard
13:59it may be and go to the center of that
14:03industry now that's if we're talking
14:04about fashion if you're talking about a
14:06lot of other Industries they're not
14:08quite that concentrated so if you're
14:10wanting to break into the tech industry
14:12you know you may not have to move to
14:15Silicon Valley for example depending on
14:16what you're trying to do but you need to
14:19you need to be aware that if you're far
14:21removed from the center of these
14:23industries and these industries depend a
14:25lot on Buzz and they're very centralized
14:30you have to you you really need to
14:32develop a presence at the
14:34center okay so that's the first thing I
14:36would say now in the beginning it may be
14:38possible to do this remotely to contact
14:41the people to go there and meet people
14:43and things like this without actually
14:45living there it may be possible okay um
14:48and it's certainly in possible in other
14:49Industries other than fashion I'm taking
14:51an extreme
14:53example okay uh so that's the first
14:56thing then you need to network with the
15:00players in that business okay now for
15:02all you introverts out there you're
15:04going to hate hearing this and I'm an
15:06introvert I'm a technically minded
15:08introvert I have a degree in engineering
15:09so I know I know how this sounds this
15:13sounds like a complete turn off it
15:16sounds impossible it sounds like you're
15:19going to hate every moment of it uh and
15:21it can't be done but it can you'd be
15:25surprised if you're an introvert and you
15:27see all those extroverts out there
15:29that are too busy flapping their gums
15:32and being Social
15:34Butterflies and all the undesirable
15:37traits of extroverts or extreme
15:39extroverts where they can't focus on
15:41anything and they can't actually get
15:43down to work you know things like this
15:46where it where it looks like it's all
15:48about appearances and no
15:51substance do you really think that those
15:53people are smarter than you and more
15:55capable than you no they're not what
15:58they do the whole networking thing
16:00really isn't rocket science okay it's
16:03not like this is beyond
16:05you so that's the first thing you've got
16:08to understand secondly with a little bit
16:10of basic social skills and technique
16:14it's amazing what you can achieve as an
16:16introvert okay um the problem is if
16:20you're doing business business relies by
16:23its very nature on connections with
16:25other people at the very least you need
16:27connections with customers
16:29because you want to get them to buy your
16:31thing okay so you can't live in a
16:34complete bubble uh you have to connect
16:36with people in some way shape or
16:39form and uh one of the things that you
16:43find is that you don't have to learn how
16:47to do everything yourself you can
16:49connect with other people that have the
16:52missing knowledge and you can rely on
16:55them to do that piece for you okay so if
16:59people have different resources they're
17:03they're sort of The Gatekeepers of
17:04different resources that you would want
17:06to
17:06have instead of you trying to recreate
17:09those resources yourself from scratch
17:12you can access them by just having a
17:15conversation with somebody you know
17:17things like this so uh it's incredibly
17:21useful so I I'm I'm trying to encourage
17:24uh introverts to sort of just try and
17:26step out of yourself a little bit learn
17:29how to interact learn how to have a
17:30conversation learn some personal
17:32Charisma and then go to where all the
17:35people can help you are okay if they're
17:39all controlling that industry they are
17:40all the players in the game go to where
17:43they are and connect with them go to
17:46events go do informational interviews uh
17:50you know and things like this
17:52and I mean I know it's a total cliche
17:56but it is true you know if you go when
17:59you sort of offer to help
18:01someone if you know how to present
18:03yourself in the right
18:04way you know that generally goes down
18:07well you know and and things happen the
18:10other thing you got to realize is that
18:12it's like sales it's a numbers game you
18:14know you might talk to say 100 people
18:17over the course of several weeks and of
18:20those 100 people let's say your success
18:22rate is 5% okay that that's far below
18:26typical but let's say it's 5% that means
18:29that you've got five people now in your
18:31camp that are going to open doors for
18:32you and going to help you and can help
18:35get things done for you okay um you know
18:40either they assist you or they partner
18:42you with you or they recommend you or
18:44they involve you in
18:46something uh or they give you permission
18:48to do something with them you know to
18:50include you in their thing
18:53somehow right that's five people that
18:55can open doors for you so
18:58if it took you say let's say 3 months to
19:02talk to 100 people uh oneon-one
19:05you know and at the end of it at the end
19:07of three months you come away with five
19:10allies that are you know the heads of
19:12companies and things like this that will
19:13help
19:14you that's tremendously valuable so
19:18never underestimate this my second
19:20recommendation would be to network with
19:22the players learn how to do
19:23informational interviews um go to trade
19:26shows go to events you know present
19:29learn to present yourself
19:31well make a good impression things like
19:33this okay and that can uh that can
19:36really
19:37help and finally um I guess a third
19:41recommendation I would have um is that
19:44you need to see the business from the
19:46inside you need to see how it's
19:48done it's also a cliche that uh you know
19:51the best way to get into a business from
19:53the inside is to get a job in it that's
19:56true if it took 6 months of your life to
19:58work as an employee in say a big fashion
20:01company if that's your ambition right
20:04you're inside of it you see how things
20:06are done you also if you open your eyes
20:09you can learn why they're done that way
20:12you also have incredible access to the
20:16people when you're on the inside you
20:18have a totally legitimate reason to ask
20:20them questions to connect with
20:22them um de develop relationships with
20:25them see if they'll open doors for you
20:27etc etc right and uh it makes networking
20:32incredibly easy when you're on the
20:33inside of a business okay you work in a
20:37company even if you're low down right
20:40you go and talk to people in your own
20:42company or in other companies and uh
20:45you're Bonafide basically you're you're
20:47established there's a reason to talk to
20:49you so uh you need to see the business
20:53from the inside one way is getting a job
20:55another way is getting uh introduced to
20:56people that can give you a tour okay and
20:59that can show you the ropes um there
21:01might be I don't know there might be
21:02internship programs there might be more
21:05formal things like that but that's where
21:08on an informal side which is what I
21:10prefer informational interviews and
21:12things can directly lead to that kind of
21:14thing okay uh and that shaves years off
21:18your
21:19journey if you were just on the outside
21:22having to guess and learn things the
21:24hard
21:25way okay so why do we why do I make
21:29these recommendations um go to the
21:31center of the industry network with the
21:33players and see the business from the
21:35inside why do I recommend these because
21:38it'll give you three things it'll give
21:39you knowledge it'll give you connections
21:41and it will give you essentially
21:44experience at how things
21:46work okay and if uh you you'll develop
21:50connections and relationships with
21:51people you can pick up the phone and
21:53make things happen right for
21:57you um somebody asked me I wrote this
21:59down here somebody asked me uh a
22:01question about volunteering can I
22:04volunteer uh for different things
22:08sometimes you can it depends what we're
22:09talking about um the way the way the
22:13labor laws work in many countries is
22:15that you see it's illegal to employ
22:20someone and not pay them right when you
22:22think about it that's what volunteering
22:24is right uh you employ someone they work
22:26for you but then you don't pay them they
22:28do it for free or for fun or whatever
22:30okay
22:31now imagine if any company every company
22:35could could have a volunteer program for
22:37any job well then that would be a total
22:40loophole to the labor laws they would
22:43just make every job a volunteer job and
22:46say well if you want to open doors and
22:48get a money paying job in the future
22:51this is a great way in so a lot of
22:53people would work for free at least for
22:56temporarily uh and and and it would be
22:58totally abused it would abuse the whole
23:00like minimum wage thing and you know
23:02Fair pay thing so you can't just you
23:06know take in volunteers for anything
23:09right usually it's limited to Charities
23:12or educational institutions I think
23:14those are the two things that generally
23:16in different countries they allow
23:19companies to to create volunteer
23:21positions and legally put up a job
23:24posting that's essentially asking for
23:26volunteers okay um you can't volunteer
23:30for a construction site you know what
23:32I'm saying like that that violates labor
23:33laws but for certain things you can
23:36volunteer and um certainly like for
23:39Charities it's a no-brainer yes you can
23:41volunteer you can see the inside of
23:43things
23:44maybe somebody in the industry that you
23:47want to get close to because they're
23:49they've got a lot of connections and
23:50they're they've got a lot of influence
23:52maybe they're the head of a company
23:53maybe I don't know they have a joint
23:56stake in a or or they do a CH it or
23:58their their spouse does a charity or
24:01something you know you can volunteer for
24:03the charity it might get you access to
24:05the person running it and then you could
24:07maybe pick their brain about their
24:09business or something but you know but
24:11that's the limitations of volunteering
24:13okay so just so you're
24:16aware
24:17um another way we're talking about how
24:20to do this stuff that was the question
24:22about volunteering uh you can get a job
24:25literally get a job in that industry
24:28with
24:29ambition of going out on your own after
24:32a short amount of
24:34time
24:36um and like I've said repeatedly if you
24:39don't know how to do networking on
24:40demand if you don't know how to discover
24:42who the people are and connect with them
24:45apart from going to Industry events you
24:49know I teach you how to do that in this
24:51course by the way if you're if you're
24:52like just wanting to learn that stuff uh
24:55get that course and I and that will show
24:57you how to do this stuff
24:59um but that's what I would advise people
25:03if you're trying to break into an
25:04industry from the
25:05outside so hopefully that makes sense we
25:08could go deeper into any part of that if
25:10people want to but that's the basic idea
25:13uh let's go over to you guys uh for
25:14questions get in the chat let me know if
25:16you got questions about anything to do
25:18with side
25:19hustles um Milan says how would you
25:23approach breaking into a new supplier
25:25chain let's say that your company needs
25:27to find a cheap but reliable supplier do
25:30you have some good advice in this area
25:33okay well that depends highly on where
25:35you're coming
25:37from the obvious thing to do would be if
25:40you're on the inside of that
25:42business okay and you work in the supply
25:47chain so you work in procurement or
25:49warehousing or something like that okay
25:52and obviously you're not telling me what
25:54industry you're in so I mean this also
25:56varies by industry so I can't go into
25:58specifics until I would know more of the
26:00industry but if you're lower down in a
26:03large
26:05organization uh they would have an
26:07internal um system that manages approved
26:12suppliers and how in in certain
26:15industries you have to be pre-qualified
26:18to work with those suppliers see they
26:20won't work with just anyone right for
26:23example let's say you you're in
26:24manufacturing and you know you build a
26:27product well order to build a product
26:29you have to get your parts from
26:30somewhere your your raw materials um now
26:35a lot of the time if you're in an
26:38established legitimate larger
26:41organization they're not just going to
26:42allow you as the procurement person to
26:45buy supplies or parts from any perhaps
26:49Shady person that you've never heard of
26:52that says you know hey I got you know I
26:54got I sell that for cheap you know you
26:56want some uh they would have to approve
26:59that supplier vet them uh make them
27:03demonstrate that they have certain
27:05things in place right like for example
27:08what you're selling
27:11has at the heart of it first of all has
27:13to be legal to sell that in in your
27:16country okay and then on top of that
27:19you'd want certain other insurances like
27:20it's got it's past quality control the
27:24company has been um qualified and and
27:27has a c a achieved certification and
27:29different quality standards or you know
27:31if you're in the food industry you can't
27:32just buy raw materials or ingredients
27:35from like any Shady place it has to show
27:39that they have a lot of uh approvals and
27:42things like this so so internally the
27:45company would have those things if
27:47you're at a higher level in the
27:49organization you're at an executive
27:50level okay um that's where you'd be
27:54going out to meet with potential new
27:58suppliers and things like this you would
28:00set up a meeting you'd go to their site
28:02they'd give you a tour their facility
28:04you'd have conversations with people
28:06running that company and you know what
28:08their goals are and what their other
28:10customers are and and you know all this
28:12kind of stuff and go through that whole
28:14thing um so it depends what level you're
28:17at how big you are what industry you're
28:19in uh and so
28:22on now in terms of how to discover them
28:25once again that highly varies by
28:27industry but just standard things is
28:29obviously you'd get on the internet you
28:31know yes Google yes
28:34LinkedIn especially Google Maps that
28:36really helps if you're talking about
28:37physical
28:39Goods um but a lot of that is going to
28:41be networking you know you depending on
28:44what you're trying to
28:45do you don't just do this as a faceless
28:48transaction on the internet you have to
28:51meet the
28:52people understand their
28:54operation because your operation is now
28:58built on theirs in a way if you're
29:01manufacturing a product based on their
29:06materials you know you are tied to them
29:09let's say it turns out that their
29:11materials were found to be radioactive
29:13you know that obviously affects you you
29:16can now get sued you can now be shut
29:19down by the government for violating all
29:21kinds of safety and health protocols you
29:23know what I'm saying like you are tied
29:24to them
29:26so you need to go through proper
29:29channels to do that or you run
29:31incredible risk
29:34right um so I mean it goes out from
29:37there that you get into more specifics
29:38from there but that's the those are the
29:39general
29:41principles uh BB says hi what about
29:45industries that base on Talent let's say
29:48not necessarily business connections
29:49like art computer Graphics creating
29:51building of sorts creative building of
29:54sorts anything else except
29:57for what do you mean by building
29:59portfolio and getting into communities
30:00where you can share your work and get
30:03feedback well well what are you trying
30:06to do are you trying to develop
30:07something is that why you want feedback
30:09why would you want feedback if you're
30:12trying to sell something presumably you
30:14wouldn't want feedback you'd want sales
30:15right and the more like the sales are
30:18your feedback if a lot of people buy it
30:21and don't return it and don't complain
30:24that's all the feedback you need um you
30:27know you know what I mean like if you're
30:29actively looking for feedback that's
30:30something a little bit different
30:33um now when you say Talent okay and then
30:36you say things like art or computer
30:39Graphics
30:42well I'm not sure precisely how you mean
30:44that but I got news for you those
30:47require connections right okay let's say
30:50You've Got Talent okay you're an
30:52incredible artist you can create art in
30:54your house or in your home
30:58awesome you don't need anyone to produce
30:59it right but when it comes to selling it
31:02it's a whole different thing the obvious
31:05thing would be to have your art
31:06displayed in the local Art Gallery it
31:10would be um displayed at art shows and
31:14other events people in the industry art
31:17critics would be talking about it and
31:20they would be talking about it because
31:21they were made aware of
31:23it and they would be made aware of it
31:27because
31:29either you or someone recommending you
31:32brought it to their attention and of the
31:3510,000 people that have sent in their
31:38homemade
31:39art they choose to review yours and give
31:43it a good review because they've heard
31:45good things because they've heard that
31:47you're you're hot right now you're
31:49you're you're
31:51trending how do you think that happens
31:53that happens with connections that
31:55happens with lots of people talking
31:58about you promoting you it it comes with
32:01activity happening right so even if
32:05you're talking about Talent right which
32:10in a business context means the ability
32:12to create value you still need to get it
32:15out it's not enough just to create
32:16something of value what's the what's the
32:19the advantage of creating something of
32:20value if no one knows about it and you
32:23can't get the word out in sufficient
32:27quality and Quant for it to generate
32:30Demand right there are people out there
32:33in the art world that can help you all
32:34kinds of critics all kinds of people
32:37that own uh venues like art galleries
32:41art shows
32:44conventions you know various different
32:46events they can tie your art into other
32:51types of events like you know I don't
32:52know maybe the symphon is performing and
32:55at the event they they also showcase a
32:57lot of your art to help brand them you
33:00get all that with connections right
33:03people need to be aware of you they need
33:04to trust you they need to believe in you
33:08Etc so there's no getting away from the
33:10whole connections thing you have to have
33:12that in some way shape perform if you
33:15want something to happen because
33:17business after all is getting other
33:19people to buy into the thing that you're
33:23trying
33:24to trying to put out there right it
33:27involves those other people so people
33:31that can help
33:32you get the attention of other people
33:34and get credibility with other people uh
33:36will really help
33:38right does that make
33:42sense you know I mean that that's how I
33:44take it like like if I'm interpreting
33:46your question correctly same with
33:48computer Graphics like if you're an
33:49amazing developer and you've written
33:51some amazing code like you've made um I
33:55don't know uh you know like like what do
33:59you what do you do with computer
33:59Graphics do you make a game I guess or
34:02can can you make a game like on your own
34:03these days I'm not sure um you still
34:07need people out there that can help
34:09publicize it promote it because listen
34:12in a perfect world what would happen is
34:13that you would make something so amazing
34:16that all you have to do is put it up on
34:19like the some kind of Internet platform
34:22where people can download apps and try
34:25things and in a perfect world they would
34:27try your thing they'd find it so amazing
34:31that they would tell everyone they know
34:32it would spread through Word of Mouth it
34:34would go
34:36viral and you know you would have the
34:39problem of you have too much money
34:42rolling in and you have to now spend it
34:44to develop a team to help you handle it
34:48all right that would be that would be in
34:49a perfect world um now that does happen
34:53but it's extremely rare okay
34:58like if that's the situation you're in
35:00you don't need help you're you're on
35:02your way okay but what
35:0599.9% of people experien is that that
35:07doesn't happen on its
35:08own you can have success definitely but
35:12it's going to take a little bit of
35:13effort to to make the world aware of it
35:16or make the right people aware of it so
35:18that then they can make the world aware
35:19of it right that's how these things go
35:23and
35:25um you know so so that that's what I
35:28have to say to that uh BB says yes so
35:31the answer is connections after all
35:32thanks yeah listen I I'm well aware that
35:35if one is an introvert and you hear what
35:39I've just been saying it might be a bit
35:40of a turnoff because you're thinking oh
35:43I can never do that I hate doing that
35:45I'm no good at it and I don't know how
35:47to do
35:49it but the reality is that the you know
35:52first of all you're you're better than
35:54you think at it if you know the right
35:56technique and chances are if you're a
36:00technical introvert you've learned some
36:02technical stuff in your life you already
36:03know some technical stuff that's far
36:06more complicated and challenging to
36:10learn than this stuff this stuff is
36:13really not that hard so it's just a
36:16matter of wanting to learn it the the
36:18biggest problem I found with a lot of
36:20introverts is they don't even place
36:22value on it so it's not that they don't
36:24try to learn it and they can't learn it
36:27it's that they they they don't even
36:28think it's worth knowing they they're
36:30hostile to the entire idea they dismiss
36:32it out of hand and that's very
36:34unfortunate because that's the key to
36:36what's going to open a lot of doors for
36:39them you know so um I'd like to do a
36:42live stream on that soon just talk about
36:44introverts and the condition of being an
36:46introvert and how it's a disadvantage
36:49but how it's also an advantage and how
36:50you can make it work for
36:53you um yeah but that but that was an
36:56intelligent question
36:58BB and there you
37:01go now if there's any questions get in
37:04the chat uh if I don't get any questions
37:06in the next uh minute or so I'll I'll
37:08wind this down but
37:10[Music]
37:11um but yeah that's the reality of
37:16it and check out Revenge of the Nerds
37:20too as I said surprisingly good movie I
37:23was not expecting to be good but it was
37:26good with the exception of that that
37:29absolutely
37:30cringing cringe inducing musical number
37:34they did in the middle it's like the
37:37worst aspects of like different multiple
37:40different types of music all rolled into
37:42one with some terrible acting
37:45and oh my
37:48God I don't think I'm going to be the
37:50same again ever after having seen
37:53that anyway that's just me
38:01I like 80s movies I uh try and watch as
38:05many as I can when I get a chance to
38:06watch a movie I don't go for modern
38:08movies I go for stuff in the 80s and uh
38:11so it's been a bit of an adventure
38:13trying to find all these movies that
38:14I've heard of I heard of years ago but I
38:17never actually saw so I'm in the process
38:20of like watching all of those one at a
38:22time you know over the last couple of
38:23years and
38:26uh and it's interesting there's some
38:28real gems in
38:31there Justin is asking about um why
38:35should we hire you so um okay so no
38:39other questions for start side hustles
38:41and
38:42Entrepreneurship okay well thank you to
38:44everybody who's been who's joined me
38:46today um you guys are awesome I'll be
38:48back next week with another edition of
38:50side hustle ideas we're going to be
38:51talking more about entrepreneurship and
38:53how to start your own business or side
38:56hustle because ENT entrepreneurship is
38:58really the key to success for a lot of
39:01people either you do it and you work for
39:05yourself or you do it and you learn some
39:09incredible skills that you can take and
39:12use it to find success in your
39:14conventional
39:16career um thank you to Kevin thank you
39:19to Justin Justin uh I do a live stream
39:23uh every week that actually will be back
39:25on the air in like an hour uh talking
39:28about how to get a job so that's where I
39:29talk about that
39:30stuff anyway you guys are awesome check
39:33out some of my courses if you're
39:35interested if you're wanting to learn
39:36business and shave years off your
39:39journey to being able to be successful
39:43in business uh check out the $100 MBA
39:46course okay it is a complete MBA program
39:51you learn everything that you learn in a
39:53regular MBA that you would take from a
39:55university the catch is that essentially
39:58you're reading the textbooks yourself
40:01the same textbooks that you get in
40:04places like Harvard Business School that
40:06they use in their MBA programs it's just
40:09that you're reading it at home at your
40:11own pace there's no tests there's no
40:14evaluations uh you can go as deep or as
40:17shallow as you want into each of the
40:19topics that you learn in business and uh
40:22make it work for you and it's like 1% or
40:26whatever it is of one or 2% of the total
40:28cost of a brick and mortar MBA so that
40:31that's a viable solution to uh for some
40:34people and I guide you through it okay
40:36so you read the books but I guide you
40:38through the books I have several videos
40:40um a couple for like each of the books
40:42and uh I mean I've read all these books
40:45myself and I guide you through it what
40:48how you could apply some of the stuff
40:50and what's more important what's less
40:51important things like this so if that's
40:53what you're into that's what you're
40:54looking
40:55for if you want to be in
40:58business learn business one way or
41:00another learn business either go to
41:02school and get a a full-blown accredited
41:05degree or do the equivalent you know uh
41:10quicker and easier at home at your own
41:12pace um if you're wanting to learn the
41:14networking thing if if you know how to
41:16get informational interviews with people
41:18how to connect with people how to
41:20discover who is around you that might be
41:21able to help you okay check out this
41:25course here because a big big chunk of
41:27that course is explaining some of the
41:29networking principles they're in this
41:31course they're mainly being used to to
41:34apply to the problem of how to get a job
41:37okay discovering hidden job
41:39opportunities things like this but
41:41they're exactly the same principles you
41:42would use if you're starting a business
41:45and you're wanting to make connections
41:46in that industry uh wanting to connect
41:49with the CEOs of a lot of companies and
41:51things that can help you that that you
41:52could partner with um that can open
41:55doors for you things like this but you
41:56don't know know how to do that maybe you
41:58are afraid of doing
42:00it but you want to step out of that
42:03shell you want to expand yourself a
42:04little bit and realize your potential
42:07how easy this stuff actually is to do if
42:09you understand the protocol and how
42:11everything is set up and how you
42:13approach companies and individuals and
42:16do it
42:17properly if that's what you're looking
42:19for uh check out that
42:21course and probably the least that
42:24applies here to side hustles but um it
42:27ties in with both those courses is the
42:29how to uh write like a professional
42:31course which is not a basic writing
42:32course it's more advanced it's more
42:34about what to
42:36say um so when you connect with people
42:40you know you give the impression of they
42:42want to talk to you and they like you
42:45okay and you know how to handle
42:47different types of situations and that
42:49kind of thing so if that's what's
42:50interesting to you um check out that
42:53course the right like a professional
42:54course uh there's links to all of these
42:57on the screen uh in the description box
42:59of this
43:00video and uh I highly recommend it it's
43:04basically a lot of information that's
43:06too involved for me to really summarize
43:09in in a video or even in a live stream
43:12and I lay it down principle by principle
43:14so if you're interested in that I
43:15created those a lot of people have taken
43:17them it solved a lot of problems for a
43:19lot of people so that's
43:22great um Nana says one more
43:25question okay
43:28uh hopefully there'll be a part two for
43:30that uh BB says I think you are right
43:32about us dismissing value of certain
43:33things that seem natural to others thank
43:35you for your Insight it was fun yeah one
43:37of the biggest things I learned in my
43:39life because I'm an introvert like I
43:40keep saying um I just dismissed all that
43:44out of hand is to me in my 20s certainly
43:47it was all crap it was all a bunch of
43:50ingratiating
43:51nonsense um what you learn later on is
43:55that it's actually extremely it's
43:57actually extremely valuable it's
43:58extremely valuable if you want a
44:00conventional career if you want to get
44:02promoted and all that uh to be able to
44:06you know Forge some great relationships
44:08with people even if you don't super
44:11agree with them on
44:14everything you know it's also a real
44:17talent to be able to connect in a
44:20positive way to people that you don't
44:23see eye to eye on on everything for
44:25example if you're an in an
44:27introvert you know how to connect and
44:29have a great relationship with an
44:31extrovert like for a start right if you
44:33work in engineering how to create how to
44:36create a great relationship with someone
44:38who works in accounting like how to
44:40actually have a civil conversation where
44:41you both enjoy it that's an incredible
44:44skill that's useful for the world of
44:48Entrepreneurship it's also useful for
44:50the world of conventional careers you
44:53know if you want to climb the ladder you
44:55need to be able to get along with people
44:57people that are not exactly like you you
45:00know what I mean um so what I used to do
45:03in my 20s and what I know a lot of other
45:05people do is they just dismiss that
45:08whole thing as like that's wasted
45:11effort it's off-putting to me I don't
45:15want to do it so I dismiss it I don't
45:17place any value on it what they don't
45:19realize is that it is hurting them so
45:23much
45:24because you know they're not they're not
45:27connecting with people
45:29and opportunities are being given to
45:31other people instead of them because
45:33they
45:34actively refuse
45:36to engage in that stuff they don't value
45:39it they don't work on themselves and
45:41they don't get good at it you don't have
45:43to leave yourself to like be some kind
45:46of social butterfly that's not what I'm
45:47saying but you do have to tack on those
45:50skills tactical skills and brains with
45:53some social skills are unbeatable so so
45:57uh that's why I would encourage everyone
45:59to uh especially introverts to just open
46:01your mind a little open your eyes look
46:04at the world see how things
46:06work why are those people getting all
46:09those advantages and not
46:10you you know this is something that that
46:13is valuable uh and you should uh pursue
46:17it anyway thank you for joining me today
46:20you guys are awesome I'll see you in a
46:21week and uh best of luck I wish you all
46:24the best in your endeavors take care for
