0:00How many people brought your Bibles or
0:01your iPads or your telephones? I want
0:03you to turn with me today to the book of
0:05St. James, chapter 1. Would you do that
0:07for me, please?
0:09St. James, chapter 1. I wasn't going to
0:11preach today because I, you know, I've
0:12been preaching a lot, trying to catch up
0:14on my rest, and because we were seven
0:16hours ahead, then eight hours ahead,
0:18then back to normal. I mean, your body's
0:20just going nuts on you, you know, that
0:21kind of stuff. But the Lord gave me
0:23something and uh I told Kathy, I said,
0:26you know, I I'll hold it. You can. She
0:28said, "No, you go ahead and do it." And
0:30uh I want to talk to you about
0:32something. First, I want to say this
0:34statement, and you can write it down.
0:35It's not a point. But this scripture is
0:38one of the hardest to be kept.
0:42Well, we're about ready to talk about
0:43today. It's one of the hardest things in
0:45the world to be kept. It arise when we
0:48least when we are at least mood
0:51to listen to it.
0:54Oh, what you wonder what this is all
0:55about here.
0:57And uh so I'm gonna deal with some of
0:59this and and you you understand what I
1:01what I'm talking about. James was a very
1:04pious religious man,
1:07Jewish to the core. In fact, he had a
1:09problem with his brother Jesus
1:11because Jesus kind of went against some
1:13of the things and and James didn't know
1:16how to handle that. But he first he
1:18said, "I I I can't believe it can't be
1:19the son of God. He's my brother." But it
1:21turned out finally he he received it and
1:23and flowed through it. A wonderful,
1:25wonderful man. And the first martyr I
1:27think to the Christian church was James.
1:30And he had a high disposition. And James
1:32received the Apostle Paul, all kinds of
1:34different things. It was just such a
1:35blessing. He was a phenomenal man. But
1:37he was a Jew of Jews. You know what I'm
1:39saying? Even though he believed that
1:40Jesus, you know, eventually became the
1:43Messiah because they had to get it.
1:44Little jealousy probably or whatever.
1:46Who knows? You know, but uh all I know
1:48is that that when he realized that his
1:50brother was the son of the living God,
1:52that was an amazing thing. So you can
1:54imagine what Joseph was going through.
1:56He's got a hand on both sides of that
1:58coin. How do you train God?
2:02Think about that. How do you tell God
2:04what to do as a child and then and stay
2:09level with his with the other kids and
2:12the thing that J and yet his name you
2:14can tell James had a wonderful u uh
2:16reputation. They called him James the
2:18just
2:20because he was a just man and a
2:21glorified man. Are you ready? Let's go
2:24over this. James 1 verse one. James, a
2:27servant of God
2:29and of the Lord Jesus Christ to the 12
2:32tribes which are scattered abroad.
2:35Greetings. So now he's writing this book
2:37or this epistle to the Jewish people.
2:39And you can read all the way through
2:40there, but I want to start with
2:44um let's start with verse 17. Every good
2:47gift and every perfect gift is from
2:50above and cometh down from the father of
2:53lights with whom is no variableness
2:56neither shadow of turning
3:00of his own will notice will God's will
3:02of his own will begat he us with the
3:05word of truth that we should be a kind
3:08of first fruits of his creatures that we
3:12made in his image and in his likeness.
3:14Now I want to get to the hard stuff.
3:17Verse 19.
3:20Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let
3:22every man be swift to hear, slow to
3:25speak, and slow to wrath.
3:29How can you have swift and slow in the
3:31same verse?
3:34He tells you to speed up, then he tells
3:36you to slow down. Wait a minute. You
3:38could almost call that an oxymoron,
3:40even though it's it, you know, oxymoron.
3:42Most people don't know what that is.
3:43military intelligence. That's an
3:45oxymoron
3:47sometimes. You know what I'm saying? You
3:48know, they contradict each other. But he
3:50says this, "Wherefore, my beloved,"
3:52verse 19, "My beloved brethren, be let
3:54every man be swift to hear, slow to
3:56speak, slow to wrath, for the wrath of
3:59man workketh not the righteousness of
4:02God."
4:04Now, I want to go back that 19. I got to
4:06say it over. Let every man be swift to
4:08hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. Now,
4:13I can't be swift and slow at the same
4:15time. That's why it's very hard. This is
4:17a very complicated and of scripture to
4:21understand, you know, because you you
4:24have to be in in season, out of season
4:25to understand what God's doing here. So,
4:27when you understand, I would call this
4:29title swift and slow.
4:33Does that make any sense? No, it don't.
4:36But swift and slow. When to be swift,
4:38when to be slow in every which way,
4:41shape, or form. Now I I want He says,
4:43"Be swift to hear."
4:46Jesus said this, "He that hath an ear,
4:48let him hear what I'm saying." He said
4:49that often in his ministry. So write
4:52this down if you're taking notes so
4:53you'll understand what I'm saying. We as
4:55Christians are to cultivate alertness.
4:59And to do that, we must cultivate the
5:01habit of not listening to some things.
5:06Okay, let me say it again. This is going
5:08to make you think here. We as Christians
5:10are to cultivate alertness. Cultivate
5:13it. And to do that, we must cultivate
5:16the habit of not listening to some
5:19things because some things are not good
5:21to listen to.
5:23You know what I'm saying? You see, and
5:25when you understand that, you'll
5:26understand what I'm talking about there.
5:28See, subjects need to be sifted.
5:31And many of them should be refused a
5:33hearing. There's some people want to
5:36talk to you about something that ain't
5:38godly at all. And you need to refuse
5:39them a hearing.
5:42>> Uhoh. Notice that because it's a waste
5:44of spiritual energy. Bible said uh
5:47foolish questions, foolish and unlearned
5:48questions do gender strife. So I'd
5:51rather not hear that. So I don't give
5:53them a hearing.
5:55>> Now it says be swift. Oh, and let me
5:58read it again. Verse 19. Then it let
6:00everyone be swift to hear.
6:03Not only Jesus said watch what you hear
6:05and how you hear it.
6:07swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow
6:09to wrath. So, I'm going to deal with
6:10those three things. So, the first thing
6:12I want to deal with is that swift to
6:14hear. Let me read write it again so you
6:16can get it going. We as Christians are
6:17to cultivate alertness. And to do that,
6:20we must cultivate the habit of not
6:21listening to some things. See, some of
6:24you that disagree with my prosperity,
6:26look, look at me. I ain't listening to
6:28you. And I don't mean to be arrogant or
6:31prideful because the Bible is full of
6:33prosperity. Jesus talked more about
6:34money than any other subject. And when
6:36you get to heaven, heaven is so
6:37prosperous. It's beyond human
6:39understanding.
6:41Now, you don't fall in love with money.
6:42We know money, the love of money is the
6:44root of all evil. But you live in an
6:45economic world. And you need finance to
6:48operate and function. If you drove a car
6:51today, it took gas to get here, right?
6:53But I'm pretty sure nobody gave it to
6:54you. These lights that are going right
6:57now, if you could look at our electrical
6:59meters, they spinning fast as they can.
7:01Especially these 5Ks, they are pulling,
7:03I mean, pulling energy like crazy. But
7:05that's all right because that's a
7:06business that people are in that
7:07business. We have to have that. So you
7:09learn you need to be swift to hear. But
7:11there's some things cultivate that
7:12alertness not to hear that stuff when
7:15they begin to tell well you know uh your
7:16family got diabetes and your Whoa, whoa,
7:19whoa. You don't need to hear that.
7:20Refuse a hearing on that. Even if it's
7:22coming from a doctor,
7:24>> don't me down when I'm preaching good. I
7:26understand genetics. I'm not stupid. I
7:28understand that. But I made up my mind.
7:29One man said, "Well, you know what about
7:31you know uh you know people get so
7:34genetic if your dad's a drunk. I mean uh
7:38most likely you might become a drunk."
7:39No. No. That's simply not true. You're
7:42not genetically linked up with anybody
7:43in your family once you get born again.
7:45You genetically linked up with the Lord
7:47Jesus Christ. And he don't have that
7:49kind of stuff.
7:50>> So you have to cultivate that alertness.
7:53And to do that, you must cultivate the
7:54habit of of not looking or listening to
7:58some things. Now, write this down so you
8:01can get what I'm talking about here.
8:02There is an art to not listening.
8:08Write it down. There is an art to not
8:10listening. Now, many of y'all thinking
8:12about your marriage right now.
8:13[laughter]
8:15See, I have an art to not listen to
8:17Kathy sometimes.
8:20Well, I didn't get one 80 men out of
8:21there. The men will slap scared and the
8:23women going, "Oh,
8:25and she has an art to not to listen to
8:27me sometime." And that's appropriate.
8:30There is
8:32an art to not listening. We must be
8:34scrupulous to the things we must pass
8:37through. We must pass through the
8:39gateway of the ear. He that hath an ear,
8:42let him hear what I'm saying. In other
8:44words, your ears is where you receive
8:46faith and you lose faith.
8:49So there is an art to not listening. We
8:52must be scrupulous to the things we must
8:54pass through the gateway of the ear. So
8:57I'm very careful about how I say how
9:00people talk to me. If you notice I was
9:01talking to L before service or during
9:03the service whatever and how much I talk
9:05about prejudice because I will not have
9:07that in my life.
9:09>> Because you see people won't stand up
9:10and say I don't care if I'm in a
9:12restaurant ladies and gentlemen and I
9:13see some of that junk I will stand up.
9:15Excuse me. Because you see, if you don't
9:18confront these things, they go on
9:19forever and ever.
9:21>> And you know, and and and it what it
9:23does, it hurts people. It hurts lives.
9:25And it shouldn't be because we're one
9:28race, which is the human race. And it's
9:30just literally that simple. Now, some
9:31people get mad at me. Well, if you get
9:33mad at me, I'm sorry. I'm not going to
9:35I'm not going to listen to you talk that
9:37crap.
9:39>> You heard the word. You understand?
9:41Because that's exactly what it is. Look
9:43at some of the people online,
9:45you know, because I refuse to hear it. I
9:48will not let it be a part of my in my
9:50presence whatsoever at all. None. And
9:52I've had it where I might have someone
9:54waiting on me and uh uh and all of a
9:57sudden somebody say something at their
9:58table and I say, "Excuse me, they're not
10:00waiting on you. They're waiting on me."
10:03And if I was her, I'd spit your food. I
10:05shouldn't have said that, but I did. I
10:07had to repent later on. But it sure felt
10:10good to say it. I ain't going to lie cuz
10:12I hate those things. You can be
10:14prejudiced on a lot of different things.
10:16You see, some people that are rich are
10:18very prejudice against poor. Look down
10:20on them.
10:23>> That's wrong to do those things. So,
10:24there's all different type of prejudice.
10:26And I've been in black restaurants that
10:28didn't want to serve me.
10:30>> Why'd you go? Because they cook good.
10:34There's one in New Orleans called a
10:35Proline Connection. Anybody ever eat
10:36that? Oh Lord Jesus. I like that proud
10:40connection.
10:42I don't trust a skinny cook.
10:45I like a fat cook that tasted everything
10:48before they put it on the table. It's
10:50just such a blessing of God. You see,
10:53but there's been times I've been asked
10:55to leave.
10:58I'm I'm not kidding you. A black plate.
11:00So it works. It don't matter what color
11:02you are. See that that devil will sneak
11:04in at any way, given, shape, or form.
11:06And you sh must immediately shut it
11:08down. Not only in your presence, but
11:11publicly so people know
11:14where you stand and where God stands. So
11:17let me say it again. There's an art to
11:18not listening. We must be scrupulous to
11:21the things we we must pass through the
11:23gateway of the ear. So I'm very careful
11:24about what comes in my ear. Write this
11:27down. Now this is an amazing statement.
11:29It is possible to be a servant without
11:32being a son.
11:34There are a lot of people go to church
11:36today, they servants, they serve their
11:37church, but they ain't lost as a goose
11:39in the fog. They don't want to know
11:40Jesus and the man in the moon. They
11:41won't have anything to do with any of
11:42that, but they're a servant to the
11:44church.
11:45>> They go to mass maybe twice a day.
11:47Nothing wrong with that. I'm not not
11:48being critical. Or go to service twice a
11:50day, but they're not a son. They're just
11:52a servant.
11:54And all all they think of I'm a Baptist
11:57and that's about it. And I'm a Catholic,
11:58that's about it. But as far as a son of
12:00God, oh no, we don't believe in healing
12:02and we don't believe in tongues. Whoa,
12:04whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait. If Peter
12:06needed it, why can't what? What makes
12:08you think you don't need it?
12:10>> Come on.
12:11>> You see what I'm saying? So, let me say
12:12it again and this will bless you. It is
12:15possible to be a servant without being a
12:17son.
12:18But it is impossible to be a son without
12:22being a servant.
12:24>> See, when you're a son of God and a
12:25daughter of the Lord, you will become a
12:27servant of the Lord.
12:28What may I do to be a blessing to you
12:30and a blessing to my God?
12:32>> You see, so I see a lot of religious
12:34servants and very few sons in churches,
12:37but when you get to a right church that
12:39believes in sunship, there will be
12:41servantship in every which way, shape,
12:43or form. You see that? And you got to be
12:46swift to hear and slow to speak. Uh that
12:49that's an oxymoron in a sense, but it's
12:51really not in that God wants you to
12:55carefully watch over your ears just as
12:57much as you do makeup on your face.
13:02Okay, I lost a few right there, but you
13:04know what I'm talking about. And vice
13:06versa. See, so when you understand that,
13:08let me say again, it is possible to be a
13:10servant without being a son. You know, I
13:13I I was a Catholic. I you know, I never
13:16cut the Catholic Church, nothing. I
13:17just, you know, I was a servant to it,
13:18but I sure wasn't a son to it. But when
13:21I got born again, I became a son that
13:23serves.
13:24>> And I look for in in scriptures where I
13:27can be a blessing to God spiritually,
13:29physically, financially. That's what a
13:31son or a daughter does.
13:34>> It's a family connection. You see what
13:36I'm saying? And people say, "I love the
13:37way Jesse talks to God." Well, why can't
13:39I talk to God like that? He's my father.
13:43Now, you know, when I when I was a
13:44servant,
13:46I couldn't talk to God. I only could
13:48talk to the priest.
13:51Listen to me because who do you think
13:53you are? You can't talk to God. Well, I
13:56wanted to talk to God because God said
13:58Abraham was his friend. I said, "Well, I
14:00want to be his friend."
14:02>> And he said, "Jesse, I need a friend."
14:05So, I decided to become a son when I got
14:06born again that serves. That's why I
14:09believe in tithing. Yes,
14:11>> I'm a servant to the scripture. Some
14:13people say, "Well, they just doing that
14:14to get money." No, we not. Look, let me
14:17just tell you something, ladies and
14:18gentlemen. God don't need nothing you
14:19got. Do you understand that? He's a
14:21creator, but you need everything he has.
14:25>> You know, for God so loved the world
14:27that he gave his only begotten son. Now,
14:29I don't know if I could give that. I
14:31have one daughter, one granddaughter. I
14:32I to be honest with you, I'm not there
14:34yet. I could not give Jod to be
14:37crucified for this world. I'm not going
14:39to lie about it. Maybe one day I'll get
14:42there. But it it seems a far off. You
14:45see what I'm trying to say? Because
14:46that's a very hard thing to do. But
14:48that's how much God loved you. He was a
14:50father to you. So when you become a son
14:52of God, you become a servant of God. But
14:56you can be a servant of God without
14:57being a son of God.
15:00Swift to hear. Are y'all getting this?
15:02>> You see what I'm saying? So So why do
15:04you do what you do? Why do you live the
15:06way you live?
15:08Do you read the Bible because it's just
15:10I just get up morning and read it
15:11because you know that's what I've been
15:14taught. Great. What did you get out of
15:16it?
15:18Or do you pick and choose what you like?
15:21Don't shout me down when I'm preaching.
15:22Good. Listen to me. There's some things
15:24in the Bible I just do not like, but I
15:26accept it. Bless those that curse you. I
15:28don't like that. Pray for those that
15:29despite use you. I don't like that at
15:32all,
15:33but I do. You see what I'm saying? So
15:36that's but there's a lot more things
15:38that I love than I don't like. You know
15:40what I'm trying to say? And the reason
15:41why I don't like is my flesh is not
15:43saved.
15:44>> And neither is yours.
15:46>> You have to crucify it daily. Not
15:48Sunday.
15:50>> If you don't watch your flesh, it'll
15:52boogie on your fast boy.
15:55>> If you don't watch your mind, you'll
15:57look at a woman and you don't realize
15:58that you coveting some man's wife.
16:02>> You're just thinking, man, she fine
16:03looking. What you're doing is coveting
16:06someone's wife or husband.
16:10See, you don't think that's happen, but
16:12that's happening. See, now if you don't
16:15say nothing about it, it will abort
16:16itself and die unborn.
16:19But if you let it get in your ears
16:22and get in your eyes, it will come out
16:25of your mouth.
16:27>> It will. See, and I said this the other
16:29day and a lot of people didn't
16:30understand that. You know, I have no
16:32temptations.
16:34I'm going to say it again. I have none.
16:36Zero.
16:37Well, Jesus had temptation. No, he
16:39didn't. Every temptation I have been
16:41tempted with. Every temptation that
16:44Jesus was tempted with belonged to the
16:46devil.
16:47Devil tempts you. But if you don't take
16:50it, it's not your temptation. I know
16:53Luke chapter 4 talks about the
16:54temptations of Christ in the wilderness.
16:56But Jesus just said no
16:58>> he wouldn't do any of that because you
16:59see if you don't take it it's his
17:02temptation. You didn't tempt it. That's
17:03why God said God tempts no man. Why?
17:05Because he don't have any temptation
17:08>> and neither should you. That doesn't
17:10mean something can't come toward you and
17:11try to draw your attention. But if you
17:13don't take it,
17:14>> it stays the devil's and you don't sin
17:17every day.
17:19>> Somebody shout over that. Are you
17:20hearing what I'm saying? Amen.
17:22>> So this I know it's it this is a hard
17:24thing to keep. Swift to hear. Let me go
17:26over those three points again. We as
17:28Christians are to cultivate alertness.
17:30And to do that we must cultivate the
17:32habit of not listening to some things. I
17:35will not listen. Well, you know how God
17:36is. Sometime he does, sometime he don't.
17:38I just I just throw that away.
17:42>> I abort that immediately.
17:45He always heals.
17:47>> Always.
17:48>> But not always. It's not always
17:50received. Every person on the earth
17:52today that's not saved has an
17:54opportunity to get born again right now.
17:56But if they don't take it, you can't say
17:57God didn't have it there
17:59>> because he will not force you. He gave
18:01you a free will.
18:03>> Do you see that?
18:05>> So you got to look at that temptation on
18:07that other side of the coin.
18:08>> That's not my temptation.
18:10>> Uhuh. That's his. And I refuse to do or
18:14or listen or say what he says because
18:17the Bible says take no thought saying.
18:20Did you get that?
18:22>> I'm teaching you that so you can
18:23understand that. Now that's what I mean
18:24by swift to hear. But be careful not to
18:27give an audience to something that you
18:29shouldn't hear.
18:31Especially gossip.
18:33>> It comes camouflaged as concern
18:37>> when it's really gossip. Did you hear
18:39about sister so and so?
18:42Oh, did you know what that guy did in
18:441939?
18:46I wasn't born in 19 I don't know. I
18:49don't care what he did.
18:51See, you're allowing garbage to come
18:53into your field. Don't let your ears
18:56become dumpsters
18:58>> that people dump stuff on. So he said,
19:01let me read verse 19. Wherefore, my
19:02beloved brethren, let every man be swift
19:04to hear. And then he jumps on and says,
19:07"And slow to speak."
19:11Well, my God, when you hear something,
19:12the first thing you do is want to say
19:13something. Am I correct? Yeah. You want
19:16to say, you want to acknowledge or say
19:18something about that. So, let's talk
19:20about that. Slow to speak. We must
19:21cultivate a sacred selfrestraint.
19:26>> Write that down. You got to learn to
19:28restrain yourself. We must cultivate a
19:31sacred self-restraint.
19:34It is an admirable slowness to be
19:36studied and practiced.
19:39It's admirable to have a slow restraint.
19:42In other words, somebody says something
19:44you don't like, you want to come out.
19:45Uh-uh. No. No. Restrain yourself.
19:49You see what I'm saying? You'd be
19:51surprised how many things you will never
19:52do if you learn to restrain yourself.
19:55That's called slow to speak. Let me say
19:57it again. We must cultivate a sacred
19:59self-restraint. It is an admirable
20:02slowness to be studied and practiced.
20:07Yeah, it's admirable to be slow to be
20:10slow to speak because sometime how many
20:12times you said I didn't mean that.
20:16See, you know why? Cuz you were swift to
20:18speak.
20:20You did not cultivate that sacred
20:22restraint.
20:24You understand what I'm saying? Now,
20:26when you understand that, it's amazing.
20:28Then you'll begin to stand swift and
20:29slow.
20:31Swift to hear, slow to speak. And if you
20:34don't give a hearing to something you
20:36shouldn't hear, you won't have to worry
20:38about what you say.
20:44>> Sometime I say some things I shouldn't
20:45have said. It just popped out. Now many
20:47of y'all know about I had my eyes done.
20:49It was such a blessing of God, man. I
20:50got these new lenses and I told Kathy
20:52something I should have never said. I
20:53said, "I can see wrinkles on you I've
20:55never seen before."
20:59>> I should have been slow to speak on
21:01that.
21:08Don't look at me weird. You do the same
21:10thing.
21:14>> Write this down. We must never speak
21:17until we have listened to the voice of
21:20God.
21:22>> You should never speak unless you have
21:24listened to the voice of God. Speech is
21:27silver. Silence is golden.
21:30>> Write that down, man. Is it going to
21:32help you? This is being slow to speak.
21:35We must never speak until we have
21:37listened to the voice of God.
21:40He that hath an ear, let him hear what
21:42I'm saying. Speech is silver, but
21:45silence is golden. Now, you think about
21:48that for a minute. Yeah. You know,
21:51people say, Jesse, how how do you know
21:53what to give? I go to the voice of God.
21:56And a lot of times he says, "Whatever
21:58you decide, make a decision and I'll
22:01back it."
22:04And I like this. I only say what my
22:06father says and I only do what my father
22:09says to do. I do it in every which way,
22:11shape, or form. See, to be slow to speak
22:15because sometime you say the wrong
22:17things. Let me say it again. We must
22:19never speak until we have listened to
22:20the voice of God.
22:23Jody, one time my daughter, she she shut
22:25me down when she start telling me
22:27something. I'm listening and uh and and
22:29and and I'm kind of interrupting her and
22:31she says, "Dad, you're making the
22:33decision without hearing the whole text
22:37of what I want to say."
22:40So, I shut up so I could hear what she
22:42was totally saying. And what I was about
22:44ready to tell her was wrong because I
22:46wasn't letting her finish.
22:49It was a great uh learning process for
22:52me and uh and and you know and it's
22:54amazing. She said, "Dad," and I already
22:56had made a decision in my mind because I
22:57already heard half of it, you know, and
22:59everything, but I hadn't heard all of
23:00it.
23:02See, and and so she and when she said
23:06that, it brought me back to the T. I
23:07said, "Oh, I'm sorry, Jody. What? What?
23:10Finish it all." And then I made that
23:12decision, which was a totally different
23:14one. Kathy says this all the time. Why?
23:17quit interrupting me while I'm
23:19interrupting you.
23:22Well, how come she can interrupt me, but
23:24I can't interrupt her?
23:27Because she thinks I'm fast to speak
23:31and she's slow to speak. Yo, mama.
23:36Let me say it again. We must never speak
23:40until we have listened to the voice of
23:42God. Why? Speech is silver but silence
23:46is golden
23:48till you hear the whole process. And
23:51it's just such a blessing of God. You
23:53see, so that's why this thing is hard to
23:55keep. See, let me say this. The the
24:00take heed what you hear and how you hear
24:03it.
24:06Most people hear it, but how do you hear
24:08it? See, that's what I was doing is how
24:10I was hearing Jod and I was making a
24:12determining a thing that I shouldn't
24:14determine till I heard the whole thing,
24:17you know, to understand it. That's why
24:18you're getting a lot of arguments, you
24:20know, because you're not listening to
24:21everything. You see what I'm saying? So,
24:24write this down. Pious phrases does not
24:28make pious characters.
24:32I've seen some terrible characters,
24:34buddy, that would say some pious
24:35phrases.
24:37Pious phrases does not make pious
24:40characters.
24:42We must cultivate a holy slowness
24:45because when our words emerge, there
24:48will be weighted with the mind of God.
24:52This is good stuff.
24:54>> Let me say it again. Pious phrases does
24:57not make pious characters.
25:00We must cultivate a holy slowness.
25:02That's why he says slow to speak.
25:04Because when our words emerge from our
25:06mouths, they will be waited with the
25:09mind of God. In other words, because
25:11you've heard the mind, you've heard the
25:12voice of God, you heard the mind of God.
25:14Now you know what to say, when to say
25:15it, where to say it, and how to say it.
25:17>> That's why Jesus was so successful. I
25:19only say what my father says, and I only
25:21do what my father says to do. See, so
25:24you got to understand that in every
25:26which way, shape, or form because there
25:28are a lot of pious phrases, but that
25:30doesn't make a pious character.
25:32See, I mean, you you you've been created
25:34in the character of God. And if you
25:36don't accept that, you become a
25:37character. And how many of you know some
25:40characters?
25:41>> Sure you do. Yeah. All of us do. You
25:43know what I'm saying? And in ministry,
25:46>> you can tell a minister that talks too
25:50much and says little.
25:54I'm going to get on that in just a
25:55minute. Talk a lot, but they say little.
25:59You see what I'm saying? They'll have a
26:01pious phrase, but they're not pious
26:04characters. How can you tell people they
26:06need to get saved when you're running
26:07around committing adultery with someone?
26:10How can How can you do that?
26:13Maybe because you're not saved. Oh,
26:16that's a judgment. Really?
26:21How can you do those things? What do you
26:23tell God to do? Will you mind going out
26:25the hotel room? even though she's not my
26:26wife. But you know, everybody need a
26:29spare tire.
26:31Don't shout me down when I'm preaching.
26:33Good.
26:35That's wrong.
26:37That's wrong. See, saying something
26:39pious, but your character is not pious.
26:42We must cultivate a holy slowness
26:45because when our words emerge, they will
26:47be weighted with the mind of God.
26:51Yeah.
26:53So when I listen to preachers, you know,
26:55I said, "Are they just talking or are
26:57they saying something?" You got to
26:59understand about preacher, we have to
27:00say something. We have to we have to
27:02talk, but we should be saying something
27:05while we're talking. You see what I'm
27:08saying? And when you understand that, it
27:10just works perfectly. So to be swift to
27:13hear and slow to speak, how can I do
27:15that? Just take those points that I just
27:18apply it to your life and it'll work.
27:20And let me just say it again. Don't give
27:22a hearing to something that you do not
27:24need to hear.
27:26>> Especially when it concerns your body,
27:30my Lord. Because And doctors mean well,
27:33but they don't realize what they're
27:34doing.
27:36They're putting things in you that they
27:38want you to believe because of genetics.
27:41What's they call it when you genetically
27:43uh what's that thing? Genetic. U you get
27:45something from your dad or your mama.
27:48>> A genetic. There's a word
27:50>> what?
27:51>> What?
27:51>> Hereditary.
27:52>> No, not hereditary. U
27:55genetic curses,
27:57you know. You know, well, you know, your
28:01dad was a drunk, you got to be a drunk.
28:02No, that's simply not true. You know,
28:04genetic what? How do you get rid of a
28:06genetic curse? Make a genetic choice.
28:11>> Just because your daddy did it don't
28:12mean you have to do it.
28:14>> Am I correct in that?
28:16>> That's really true.
28:19Let me tell you what I did in Europe.
28:21Everyone said it. They said, "You
28:24stretched us so much." I gave them
28:27stretch marks.
28:29Ah, you got the revelation right there.
28:31Look at the young girls. Huh? Huh? Wait,
28:35it's coming.
28:37I stretched them, boy. They go, "How can
28:40he believe that?" Well, when you get the
28:42stretch marks, you can.
28:44You see what I'm saying? You learn how
28:46to flow and work and understand that.
28:49See, when you understand that, that's
28:51cultivating a holy slowness
28:55and then it works for you. Now, he says,
28:56"Go from swift to hear, slow to speak."
29:00Then he says, "Slow to wrath." Now,
29:02that's where I've had my problems in
29:04life. I used to drink a fif of whiskey a
29:06day. I was finished by two o'clock in
29:08the afternoon. I got up and Kathy
29:10quipped me eggs and I drank scotch or
29:12bourbon. By 2:00, that bottle was gone.
29:15on Ellis is gone, man. Then I'd start uh
29:18drinking again about 6:30 at night and
29:20drink all the way to 3:00 in the morning
29:22cuz I was in that nightclub business.
29:24And I mean, and I want to tell you
29:26something. Um, and when you drink, you
29:28say things you shouldn't say. You really
29:30find out who you are when you're drunk.
29:35You say stuff, it just comes out because
29:37truth will come out because you don't
29:39care. So, write this down. People who
29:42talk a great deal provoke
29:46uh contradiction
29:48and discussion. Let me say it again.
29:50This is slow to wrath. Talking about
29:52wrath. See, you you got to be easy not
29:55to get mad. People who talk a great deal
29:59provoke contradiction and discussion and
30:02then their temper rises. Have you ever
30:05been talking to someone and they're not
30:07getting what you said? They could feel
30:09that Tabasco sauce coming up your legs.
30:12>> What's the matter with you? Are you
30:13hearing what I'm saying? See, you
30:16produce a discussion and a contradiction
30:18that makes you temporarize.
30:21That's why he said slow to wrath. And
30:24I've had, you know, I I I drank like a a
30:27mule, man. I mean, just and dope and
30:30everything, wine, women, song, and all
30:32kind. But when I got born again, easy
30:34easy. I was instantly completely
30:38delivered
30:40>> by that temper.
30:43Oo,
30:45somebody pop off at me. Oh, you want to
30:48dance? And I'm not big enough to whip
30:50nobody, but a baseball bat will put you
30:53will make you 6'5 to 43
30:56if you just hit them right. You know
30:58what I did one time? I'mma embarrass
31:00myself preaching now. I'm a preacher. I
31:03did this when I say it. I was, you may
31:05have heard me say this, I was driving
31:07going to the Lakeside Mall.
31:10So, I took off, I took, you know, I took
31:12the Lakeside uh, you know, the causeway
31:15thing like turning around and I'm
31:16driving and right there on veterans,
31:17this has no left turn. Now, if you go
31:20across it, you can turn around, you
31:22know, where the parking lot is and you
31:23know, so, and I don't know why it's
31:26every Cajun for some reason don't have a
31:28left arm.
31:31Why can't you just turn left? why you
31:33got to go way out the way and all that
31:34kind of stuff. So that anyway is
31:35aggravating. That makes your temper
31:37start to rise because it becomes a
31:39discussion
31:41and a contradiction the way you think.
31:43Kathy was with me.
31:46She caused me to sin.
31:51I ain't looking over there. She caused
31:52me to sin. So as I run, she said,
31:55"Jesse, turn left."
31:58I said, "Kathy, there's no left turn."
32:00Well, you do it all the time that way.
32:01Go ahead. It's okay. Do it.
32:06But I had something in my spirit. K
32:07said, "Don't do that." She said, "Go
32:10ahead, just turn left." So I turned
32:12left.
32:14When I did, a cop was under that bridge.
32:21He goes, "You."
32:25I said, "Look what you did." She said,
32:27"You never listen to me.
32:34So I'm mad as a hornet in my truck at
32:37her
32:39and what she said in her pious way.
32:47Let me say the point. People who talk a
32:49great deal provoke contradiction and
32:52discussion and then there the
32:54temporizer. So now this is embarrassing
32:56but it literally happened. This cop was
32:59about 6'4, big guy.
33:03Three other people were waiting for
33:05tickets
33:07cuz they listened to their wives, too,
33:11and made a no left turn. They can see
33:14them.
33:17But it's so easy. I mean, you know, you
33:19know. So
33:22he said, "Go give me your driver license
33:24and go over there and shut up.
33:28I don't like nobody telling me to shut
33:29up.
33:31>> Hush up would have been a little nicer.
33:36>> So I reached in my wallet, got my and I
33:39listen, I was going to preach somewhere.
33:42So I was in a hurry. That's another
33:44thing. So I take my drive line, I give
33:47it to him. And he just take he goes just
33:49pull it out my hand, Ricky, like that.
33:52So I could feel the tuk tuk tuk tuk tuk.
33:55And in my mind, I said, "Okay, sucker.
33:57Just give me the dad gum ticket. I'll
33:59pay it and go away."
34:01But he took my driver's license and he
34:05put it inside his belt like this, you
34:09know.
34:13And I said, "Excuse me,
34:16if you don't mind, would you take your
34:18my driver's license outside of your
34:20belt?" I mean, it's inside your belt, in
34:22your pants. See? He said, 'I told you to
34:25go over there and shut up.
34:29I said, I'm gonna say this one more
34:31time. And Kathy goes, oh,
34:36ain't quite the words she says, but you
34:38something's coming down here. I said,
34:41"Sir, I don't want my driver's license
34:44inside your pants. Take it out now."
34:48He looked at me. What? And when he he
34:50did it, when he did, I got close to him.
34:52I said, "You think you bad? PULL IT.
34:56PULL IT. SOMEBODY GOING TO DIE TODAY,
34:58SUCKER. YOU WILLING TO DIE. PULL IT." HE
35:02GO HE GOES, "BACK UP. BACK UP." I SAID,
35:03"You better get some ambulance." There
35:04going to be blood flowing ALL OVER THE
35:06PULL [screaming] IT. COME ON. LET'S SEE
35:08HOW BAD YOU ARE, BIG BOY. I scared that
35:12man. [laughter]
35:15I scared some of y'all, didn't I? Look
35:18at Deb.
35:19[laughter]
35:20Oh, I I mean I I already had it in my
35:22mind. He pulled that gun, but I'm gonna
35:24POP THAT SUCKER. BOOM. POP THAT AND GET
35:26IT OVER WITH. That's the old Jesse.
35:29I SAID, "PULL IT."
35:32And all the other people waiting for
35:34tickets going,
35:37"You think you bad? You You think you
35:39something?
35:42GET THAT DRIVING." AND I GRABBED THAT,
35:44PULLED IT OUT.
35:46CALL, GET THE POLICE, GET AMBULANCES,
35:50MAN. I'm looking at him like one eyes on
35:52him and that eyes on that gun. He go for
35:54that gun, I'm going for it, too, son.
35:57Somebody going to get maybe I get
35:58killed, he get but somebody going to die
35:59today. Now, I'm not proud of that. I
36:01know I sound like I'm proud of it, but
36:03I'm not. That's called
36:06you should be slow to wrath.
36:11He got scared. I SAID, WRITE THE TICKET.
36:15GRABBED THE TICKET. I GET OUT OF MY
36:17FACE.
36:19But he was trembling. I got the truck
36:22and I'm driving and I'm just waiting.
36:26They're going to come get me. And Kathy
36:28says, "Supposing he saw you on
36:30television preaching.
36:36She should be slow to speak."
36:41I was wrong.
36:44I repented for three days and I hid for
36:47three days so no [laughter] God could
36:49find me. Man, the boy got me. I mean, I
36:53I threatened that man, but it wasn't a
36:56threat.
36:57Let me help you. I wasn't threatening. I
37:00was going to do it.
37:03They cuz I was taught that way.
37:07Alligator got to eat. It's called West
37:10Bank mentality.
37:12Al Jazz.
37:14Anybody know where Alz is? You don't
37:16mess around in Alz. So, somebody will
37:19pop you in a second.
37:24Not Al Africa. Als Louisiana.
37:32This is the point. Write it down. The
37:33wrath of man workketh not the
37:35righteousness of God. The Apostle James
37:38said.
37:39I wasn't working righteousness doing
37:41that. I repented and the Lord said, "I
37:43forgive you." I repented the next day.
37:45He said, "I forgive you." I repented the
37:47next day. I just I was so mad at myself
37:50because all I had to do was be slow to
37:53wrath.
37:55See, cuz there's a line with me. Cuz
37:57when you're little short short, you
37:59know, people bully you. You know, I I
38:01had enough of that.
38:03And finally, I said, "No, no. I mean, I
38:05ain't big enough to whip most men, you
38:06know, but I'm going to get me a baseball
38:08bat. I'll run you over with a car. It
38:10don't make it look go to jail. Well, you
38:12got a place to sleep.
38:14And that's how I was taught. You do what
38:17you got to do. Alligator got to eat.
38:21Craziness, stupidness.
38:23In other words, wrath becomes your God
38:25instead of God your God.
38:28>> And and he said that verse 20, for the
38:31wrath of man workketh not the
38:32righteousness of God. I want to be in
38:35right standing. The Lord said, Jesse, I
38:37forgave you the first time you repented.
38:39I said, he said, now you need to learn
38:41to forgive yourself.
38:44And that was not an easy thing to do.
38:47See, heated feelings, write this down,
38:49heated feelings sometimes provoke other
38:52people to sin.
38:54I would have made that man sin and me
38:57sin because I was heated up and angry.
39:00Heated feelings sometimes provoke other
39:03people to sin.
39:05You see? So, we must be swift to hear,
39:08slow to speak, and slow to wrath, which
39:11is a very hard thing to do because you
39:12ever notice when God says slow to speak,
39:15it always comes when you don't want it.
39:20Let me read that point again.
39:23It arrives when we least we're in the
39:25least mood to listen to it.
39:29You know, sometime you you know it's the
39:32wrong time. Now, you can love somebody,
39:35but after a while, sometime enough is
39:37enough. I've seen Ricky Bartley mad at
39:40Christine Bartley.
39:43That's all I'm going to say about that
39:46cuz Christine shut him down, [laughter]
39:47you know. You know, and the best thing I
39:50just go out the house, you know, you
39:52know, cut a sugar cane, do something. My
39:56God, you know, it's a heated moment.
39:59And you shouldn't be doing those things
40:01because greater is he who's in you than
40:02he who's in the world. See, I don't I
40:04don't want you to feel bad about this
40:06because you see it's it's a very hard
40:08thing to do. You know, and I want to say
40:11this last point. Discern the wind of the
40:14spirit
40:15blowing through a poor service,
40:19a faulty pronunciation,
40:22a looseness and crudeness of words.
40:26You you'll hear this in sermon sometime.
40:28The wind of the spirit is always
40:30blowing.
40:31Why? Discern the wind of the spirit
40:33blowing through a poor sermon.
40:36In other words, if you don't believe
40:37what I say, forget it. Now, wait a
40:39minute. You know, you may have a
40:41revelation I don't have.
40:44See, what's a poor sermon? Women can't
40:47pastor.
40:49Women can't preach. Women should be
40:51silent in the church. Is that in the
40:53Bible? Yeah. Is women said be silent in
40:55church. That means I have to fire Renee.
41:02And the only ones can be up there is Joy
41:04Ellis, guitar player with my man right
41:08there and and the drummer. All them
41:10girls got to go.
41:13Now, how absurd is that?
41:16Simply because he said silent in the
41:18church.
41:22See, that's a that's what I call a
41:25faulty pronunciation,
41:28a looseness and crudeness of words,
41:34not discerning the wind of the spirit
41:37when you hear a poor sermon.
41:40And that's what that is. I can
41:41understand why they say it. If you want
41:43to have a theological debate, I can go
41:45debates, you know, discussion. Debates
41:47makes uh discussion decision makes
41:49choices. You see, I can understand why
41:51they saying it. But yet, when I look in
41:53the script in the Old Testament as well
41:55as the New, all I see is women in high
41:57positions of authority.
41:59>> Deborah was a judge of Israel in the old
42:01man, that's higher than a pastor. That's
42:03big, man. Then you go into the New
42:05Testament. Who brings the word of God
42:07for Paul? Phoebe
42:09Aquilla and Priscilla. And after a
42:11while, it's Priscilla and Aquilla.
42:15it. Pastor Yang Cho who's in heaven, he
42:17said his church was built on his
42:19mother-in-law on that prayer thing.
42:22>> See, but you know sometime men get a
42:25little I don't know ego egotistic
42:28because of a woman or something like
42:29that. Like for some reason she's a
42:31lesser species. That's simply not true.
42:34She's woman. She's wo man. She's man
42:37with womb. Whoa man.
42:42It's amazing. See, so that's what I call
42:45a crude pronunciation,
42:48a faulty situation
42:52or a poor because you haven't discerned
42:54the wind of the spirit
42:56or when to say, what to say, and how to
42:58say it.
43:00See, and it was just such a blessing. So
43:02when we were in Africa preaching and we
43:04had a day or two of I I wanted whatever
43:06Kathy wanted to do, I wanted to do it.
43:09Well, what do you want to do today? I
43:10said, this is your day. Let's go. I'll
43:13just go with you. We'll just enjoy it
43:14and have a wonderful time. And it was
43:16nice and and and it had a beautiful
43:19hotel. This hotel was just magnificent.
43:23And it was just such a blessing. And she
43:26liked it. I So we we'd walk around the
43:28hotel and just sit down in one of them
43:29chairs and all that kind of stuff and
43:31just enjoy it. And people come up to
43:33her, you are an American. You're Justin
43:36Duplantis, aren't you?
43:39Well, how do you know that? Have you
43:41seen me on television? No. The bellman
43:43said you gave a big tip.
43:45[laughter]
43:49I said, "Oh, yeah. Yeah, I forgot that."
43:52I did bless the guy because he had a lot
43:54of stuff. You know what I'm saying? Oh,
43:56sir, that's too much. I said, "Well,
43:59give it back." Oh,
44:02so every time I'd walk into the uh into
44:04the what they call that, the foyer what
44:07you go into the lobby, boom, all
44:09embossed. Sir, how may we be of service?
44:17I said, "Oh, no. I'm just walking out."
44:18Oh, and we we'd come back and we Oh,
44:21it's so good to see you, sir.
44:26Then I thought something. I judge the
44:28wind of the spirit. I said, "These men
44:33and women
44:35don't have to do something for me for me
44:37to be a blessing.
44:39They don't have to carry my bag, pick up
44:42my wife and put her on the street, you
44:44know, cuz sometimes some of them steps
44:45are high.
44:48Why can't I just bless him?
44:51So I did.
44:54I walk say, "Could you use this today?"
44:57Oh, sir.
44:59Oh, you serious? I said, "You see me
45:01blink?" "No, sir. Yours." "Yeah, but
45:05what can we do for you?" "Nothing.
45:07you do a good job. That's a blessing.
45:11And I went around, you know, the Bellman
45:14and uh well, and and the Corsier,
45:17all kinds of different. And it's amazing
45:19how doors open up to you.
45:23Are you just being nice?
45:26So, I ran out all the money I was going
45:28to tip
45:30and somebody shook my hand, put a,000
45:32euros in my hand.
45:35That would be about like $1,300 in
45:38American money.
45:40I let that go, too.
45:42>> I would just be a blessing.
45:46And then we went out to eat. We blessed
45:48them. I'm bragging on this. You see, I
45:50was judging the wind of the spirit.
45:55And and and the pastors, they wanted to
45:58buy my meal and car because, you know,
45:59I'm preaching for I said, "No, no. Let
46:01me be a blessing to you." Oh, no, no,
46:03no. I said, "Please let me." And then I
46:05looked at both of them and I really love
46:07those ladies. They dishonorable women.
46:09Boy, I mean I preach. I said, "Let me
46:12Kathy buy you." So Kathy said, "Yeah, we
46:14were thinking about getting you." So,
46:15"Oh, no, no, no, no. Yeah, we want to."
46:18"Oh, that's just too much." "No, it's
46:19not.
46:21You like that? Why don't you get that?"
46:24And Kathy helped them pick some things
46:26or whatever. And it was just such a
46:27blessing to to go and But you know, most
46:30ministers go say, "Well, bless God, I'm
46:31preaching for them. they ought to be
46:33spending everything. Well, I'm not going
46:35to disagree with that. I don't do that.
46:37I would never do that. I'm not bragging
46:39on myself. I just, you know, I just do
46:40what I do, you know. And uh and it was
46:43just such a blessing. And uh they just
46:46couldn't get over it. And the last thing
46:48he said, "Your generosity is is so
46:52nice." And you know, I said, "Well, you
46:54know, generosity is more than money.
46:56It's thinking of other people.
46:59and just thinking of people, you know,
47:01and uh things of that nature and it's
47:04just such a blessing. So, let me go back
47:06to that last statement. Discern the wind
47:09of the spirit slowly blowing through a
47:13poor sermon,
47:16a faulty pronunciation,
47:19a loose and crudeness of words. There's
47:22some people say some very ugly things
47:24about me on this on on social media, but
47:27I I I I
47:30know Kathy told me that's called
47:31clickbait.
47:33Now, I don't know much about that
47:34because I don't know much about that
47:36kind of stuff, but I just said, well,
47:38sometime I want to say something, but
47:40I'm not because if you do, now you're
47:41starting something. See, so I just pray
47:44for him. Lord, whatever you do is fine
47:47with me.
47:50You need a suggestion, I will help you.
47:53[laughter]
47:54You can kill them if you like, you know.
47:57No, I I thought it, but I didn't say it.
48:03[snorts]
48:06Years and years ago, there was a one of
48:09the most phenomenal piano players and
48:11songwriter named Andre Crouch.
48:13>> Do y'all remember Andre?
48:15>> Oh, that guy. Could he sing? Could he
48:18write?
48:21We were supposed to do a concert
48:22together. I was going to be on a white
48:24piano and him on a black piano. We were
48:27gonna put him like this. It was going We
48:30called it Ebony and Ivory.
48:33Never got a chance to do it. Oh man,
48:35would have been an honor for me to play
48:37with such a phenomenal musician. Who's
48:39your favorite musician of all time by
48:41Jesse? Oh, without a doubt. satchel
48:47Louis Armstrong. It don't get no better.
48:50None. I don't care who I don't care
48:52about the greatest actors and they got
48:54some phenomenal actors, buddy.
48:57But they put Lewis Armstrong as a
49:00bartender. He stole the movie.
49:05Think about that. That man,
49:08we trumpet players are still trying to
49:10figure out some of the licks that that
49:12licks is what you play. you know how he
49:14did what he did. If you notice his lips,
49:17he would split his lips,
49:20you know, praying so hard it cut the
49:22lip. And man, could he play
49:25and he had one of the greatest
49:27personality and when he laughed,
49:29[laughter]
49:30oh, I just made everybody go, everybody
49:32wanted to sing with him.
49:36But notice some of the parts they gave
49:37him.
49:39Now, when he was playing, that's fine.
49:41But there's always some kind of back. He
49:44had to fight that all his life.
49:47But his talent was so extraordinary
49:51that we named an airport after him.
49:56>> That's as good as it gets right there,
49:58buddy. So, he's my favorite. And I got
50:00pictures of him and all kinds of
50:01different things in my office and and uh
50:03and uh and sometime I try to figure out
50:06some of the licks that he did. Good.
50:09that man play now. You think he went to
50:11heaven? I don't know
50:14that I came here. I hope so. Cuz I want
50:17to see when I want to sing with him. I
50:19see trees are green, [groaning]
50:21red roses, too. He just had it. How many
50:25of y'all agree with me? Do you agree
50:26with me? He had it, man. It was Talk
50:29about a gift.
50:31But what a rough life.
50:35Storyville. Anybody know where that
50:37place was? way back when,
50:42but he didn't let his color keep him
50:46down.
50:48And they tried to do it to him all the
50:50time, but his talent was so wonderful.
50:54That was God-given and God sent.
50:59And I'm pretty sure he had to be slow to
51:02speak and slow to wrath at times.
51:08and the mafia would take him out. So
51:11that's why he he he went from New
51:13Orleans to Chicago, which is kind of bad
51:15over there, too. You know, they're just
51:17trying to make money on someone they
51:19didn't need to make money on.
51:22He was just that good.
51:25So this is a very hard scripture
51:28to accept. Wherefore, my beloved
51:31brother, let every man be swift to hear,
51:33slow to speak, and slow to wrath. For
51:35the wrath of man workketh not the
51:37righteousness of God. So it's kind of a
51:40weird way to say it. Slow to speak,
51:43swift to hear, swift and slow in the
51:46same verse. Wait a minute. You know, but
51:48if you'll understand what I'm saying
51:49today, you'll flow in that and your
51:51Christianity will be such a blessing to
51:54everyone that hears you. In fact, you
51:56won't have to say a word. They'll read
51:58it.
52:00There's something about that man.
52:03There's something about that woman
52:06that I just want to be around.
52:10See, when you're that good,
52:15I don't care. The greatest actors in the
52:17world cannot overshine you,
52:20especially the movie. And that's that
52:22movie Gone with the Wind. Mammy
52:26good. First black woman to get an Oscar.
52:29Yet she couldn't sit in the room
52:32while they were talking about she had to
52:34walk out the kitchen into the room, go
52:36get her Oscar and come back. And even
52:39black people got mad at me. You always
52:40playing a maid. She said, "I'd rather
52:42play a maid than be a maid." As it was
52:44her words. Ain't nothing wrong with
52:46being a maid, but I'm They were just
52:48putting her down. But she was so great.
52:51You know who totally understood her?
52:53Clark Gable. He was the king of acts
52:55partner. He ate every Sunday at her
52:58house.
53:01You didn't know that did Clark Gab stood
53:03up and he said if she is not allowed
53:06when we do this they did it in Atlanta
53:08because it was done you know the the the
53:11civil war and all that kind of stuff I
53:12won't be a part of this
53:15now when you have that much stroke son
53:17and Clark Gable had stroke and he was a
53:19man's man boy but he honored her
53:23but her talent was beyond
53:27understanding
53:30she was
53:32that person and made you love her.
53:38That's amazing to me.
53:41Think about that. Satchel made you love
53:43him. See, that's when you use the gift
53:46correctly that God gives you. It doesn't
53:49bring strife or prejudice. It brings
53:52love.
53:55teach me something. Did you enjoy it
53:57this morning?
53:58>> Give the Lord a hand clap for that.
54:00Praise the Lord. Now, I'm gonna ask you
54:02a question. I want you to think about it
54:03all this time. Are you a servant
54:08or are you a son
54:11or a daughter?
54:14Find which one it is. What I mean is,
54:16you know, there are a lot of servants,
54:17but they're not sons. But you can't,
54:21it's impossible to be a son without
54:22being a servant.
54:25Give the Lord another hand clap for
54:27that. Such a blessing of the Lord. Well,
54:29it's time to receive the morning tithe
54:31and offerings. And I hope you came
54:33prepared to be the blessing that you
54:36should be
54:38because all God wants to do is be a
54:40blessing to you.
54:42That's just that simple. And I'm going
54:45to ask you to give today. You that are
54:46watching online, I want you to give.
54:49There's an offering envelope on the back
54:50of the pew if you're giving your morning
54:52tithing off. The reason why I believe in
54:54tithing because it's scriptural.
54:57Well, we don't have to. Let me help you.
54:59You don't even have to get saved.
55:01I don't know why you wouldn't.
55:05You just do it. I like just being a
55:08blessing. That's it. I mean, you know, I
55:10just want to be a blessing and whatever
55:13whatever it is. I like being a blessing
55:15to God. And he always blesses me so much
55:19that I can always be a blessing. If
55:21you're giving today, you you you're
55:23writing a check here, make it out to
55:25Covenant Church, you'll get a
55:26taxdeductible receipt for your giving.
55:28We're halfway through this. So, we need
55:30now 10,000 more people to give $1,000.
55:34And that's 10 million. And then we
55:35finish. And I tell you what, we're
55:37already starting these things going
55:38forth and things of that nature. Be
55:40praying with us that if possible, we may
55:43be able to have this thing finished by
55:45next uh visionary conference.
55:48>> That would be such a blessing if we can.
55:50And no pressure, Richard. None
55:52whatsoever. [laughter]
55:54Go to work, Rich. No, no, no press. No
55:57pressure at all. And it'll be a
55:58blessing. And I ask each of you to be
56:00generous to the Lord because he's been
56:02generous to you. If you're watching
56:04online, you can go to our JDM website
56:06and jdm.org. And you can uh uh hit the
56:10donate button and give that way. You can
56:12use PayPal if you like, or you can text
56:14to give a one-time donation or a
56:16recurring one. Or you can go to the free
56:18JDM app, pick this, select the kind of
56:20giving you want. That's up to you. Or
56:23you can do to use the post office like I
56:25do and mail in the check or whatever and
56:27God will richly bless you. We're
56:29believing God for a total of 20,000
56:30people to give $1,000. Some give more
56:33and some give less, but it's coming in.
56:36And it's amazing how this ministry
56:38functions and works. In 50 years of
56:41preaching, and we're celebrating it all
56:42year, we've never had a financial
56:44deficit. And you know what the reason
56:46why?
56:48You were swift to hear.
56:50You knew how to hear and what to hear.
56:54Now, I want all of you believing in the
56:5536 and 100fold. If you hadn't got it
56:58yet, like we say in South Louisiana, the
57:00fat lady ain't something yet.
57:03>> But it's coming.
57:05>> No other choice in the matter. It is
57:07coming. I want all of you debtree.
57:12I want all the kids educated
57:14>> that are back there. Didn't y'all enjoy
57:17that sweet little lady that that that
57:20quoted that preamble? Lift your hands up
57:22against you. How many were here when she
57:24did that? Give her another hand clap.
57:26I've been thinking about that all week
57:28long. [applause] We the people of the
57:30United States. Oh man. In order to form
57:32a more perfect unionist. I like that. I
57:34thought, man, she just nailed it. I
57:36thought about asking her to preach
57:38today. Praise. [laughter]
57:40And she could have preached on the
57:41Constitution. Praise God. You ought to
57:43read the Constitution. It's not that
57:44long. Find out your rights
57:50and learn something called pursuit of
57:52happiness.
57:54Read the Declaration of Independence.
57:56Read it.
57:59Yeah.
58:01And yet some of these people that wrote
58:02that had slaves, but they're making an
58:05excuse. Well, when I die, they're going
58:07to be free. Well, why you got to wait to
58:10die?
58:13Why don't you start say
58:17I'm gonna pay you?
58:20They call sugar white gold. Boy,
58:24that's all they had to do.
58:26What stopped it? The love of money,
58:29greed.
58:32None of that is here. Jess M. We never
58:35touch your money. you and IRS said that
58:37man does not touch that money. It's not
58:40mine. It's yours.
58:46And you want it for a purpose for the
58:48kingdom of God. And that's exactly where
58:49it goes. How many of y'all believe
58:5120,000 people going to do it? Some going
58:54to give more, some going to give less.
58:55How many of y'all believe a $20 million
58:57donor is coming? Hold your hand up. You
58:59may be the one that does it. I ain't
59:01never had that much money in your life.
59:02You don't ain't no telling what God will
59:04do.
59:05You just never know if you just believe
59:08him.
59:09>> All right, ushers, get ready. I want you
59:10to hold your offering up to the Lord. I
59:12want to pray over it.
59:15>> Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of
59:17Nazareth, I thank you for this offering.
59:21I thank you that it's a good offering
59:24because people give it to you in love
59:28so that we can touch the world. We did.
59:30We proved it in the
59:32in the European tour. We never charged a
59:35person. We never gave them any expenses.
59:37Our faithful partners and church people
59:39took care of all that. And I ask you to
59:41bless them with hundfold.
59:44They have a right to it. Lord, bless
59:47each and every one of them. God,
59:49when they think about this ministry, let
59:52them have a smile on their face. And
59:54when they hear about all that trash that
59:56they say about us that is not true,
1:00:00let their ears close to that.
1:00:04and don't give that a hearing whatsoever
1:00:07at all. Father, I thank you for it. I
1:00:10believe you for it. I call it done in
1:00:12the name of Jesus. Amen. And amen.
1:00:15Users, go ahead and receive this
1:00:17morning's offering. And thank you for
1:00:19giving. I know you need your money. I
1:00:22understand. I'm believing God for some
1:00:23big things for you. You know, Ellis, I
1:00:26like that shirt. I leaned over to Kathy,
1:00:28your shirt. I said, I like that shirt.
1:00:31Well, I got to find out where you get
1:00:32that shirt. I'm going to get me one like
1:00:34that myself. Come on, Jesus. [laughter]
1:00:37And Kathy, you know what she said? Ellis
1:00:39always dresses well.
1:00:41>> Praise the Lord. That makes you feel
1:00:43good, doesn't it? Yeah, sure it does.
1:00:45And your wife, too. Vice versa, you
1:00:47know, you don't want your wife saying,
1:00:49"Well, my
1:00:51my husband's a dog." You [laughter]
1:00:53know, you don't want that, you know. No,
1:00:55you want them to look good. Do whatever
1:00:56you can and everything. Would you stand
1:00:58to your feet? They're receiving the
1:00:59offering. I think I don't really have to
1:01:01worry about you as far as an altar call
1:01:03today because you took holy communion,
1:01:05>> right?
1:01:08You judged yourself,
1:01:12>> you put in your body the ability to be
1:01:15totally, completely healed, no matter
1:01:17how old you are. When you took that
1:01:20wafer
1:01:23and when you drank that juice as a type
1:01:25of his blood, everything you've ever
1:01:28done
1:01:29that was not right was not only washed
1:01:32away, but was expuned.
1:01:35Ain't that amazing? Think about that.
1:01:39That's the power of God's word.
1:01:42So, let me dismiss you and I want you to
1:01:44think about it now. Take this sermon
1:01:46verbatim.
1:01:48If somebody tries to get you to hear
1:01:50something and it ain't right, don't give
1:01:52it a hearing.
1:01:55>> Don't do it. And God will honor you. And
1:01:59if somebody makes you mad at the
1:02:01[snorts] causeway and
1:02:05veterans,
1:02:07don't listen to your wife. No, no, no.
1:02:09[laughter]
1:02:11Just say, "Well, I'm going to be slow to
1:02:14wrath."
1:02:16Father, as we leave this building, we
1:02:18don't leave your presence.
1:02:20>> You've been so kind to us.
1:02:23>> Lord, I ask you to save people that need
1:02:26saving, heal people that need healing
1:02:28every which way, shape, and form. God,
1:02:31Lord, I thank you for it. I believe you
1:02:34for it. Lord, I call it done. This
1:02:36Covenant Church is a nice place to come
1:02:38to.
1:02:39>> We love people here, Lord. bless each
1:02:42and every one of them and those that are
1:02:43on vacation, Lord, bring them back safe
1:02:46after tomorrow.
1:02:48And Lord, and and and go back to do the
1:02:50work that they do. Honor each and every
1:02:53one of them, Lord. In Jesus' name we
1:02:55pray. Amen. And amen. Shake somebody's
1:02:58hand. Tell them you love them. We'll see
1:03:00you next week or next Wednesday at
1:03:03Covenant
