0:00hey guys what's up in this session i want to show you my approach to write an arpeggio roll
0:04and just for the one who doesn't familiar with this term arpeggio is a style of
0:08playing that instead playing several notes simultaneously and creating a certain chord
0:12it will be played one note at a time and of course you can set the length and the order of the notes
0:17as you as you wish now i can achieve this one by using arpeggiate or midi effect but i prefer
0:23to write it manually and i'll try to make it as simple as i can so the focus will be on supporting
0:29the other melodies and other ideas in the project just before that this is what i have till now
0:53all right you get the idea already choose the sound
0:56created a simple plug in fm8 that affected a bit by velocity
1:03oh and the scale is g minor if i didn't say it yet so it means
1:15now usually when you say arpeggio you mean or you expect to get for example soul mind or g minor
1:33but i'll go with something even simpler than that let me show you
1:40so those are eight bars i'll start from four bars
1:48sixteenth each note
2:04so this one is even basic than basic you know g g and g but i'll make it
2:11a bit different i'll take this one maybe we'll take it to d
2:22and deep it's the fifth note in the scale so it's supposed to go well
2:28let's do something like this to trigger the legato
2:43oh now just a note instead of making this uh this sequence a bar length or exact
2:48fraction of it take a look at this one you see it's like it's three note length
2:55it's three note length sequence and it means that even though it's in the same tempo this arpeggio
3:00will start each bar in different in in a different note so if we take a look this bar start with the
3:07the lowest g and the other bar start with the second g and the bar after start with the d and it
3:15goes on and it get reset every three bars so you got the idea it doesn't go as one to one with the
3:24bar it's called polyrhythmic and yes basically you get the idea for me it makes the whole things much
3:31more interesting but still it doesn't steal the the the show and the focus so it sounds like that
3:45now if i'll just duplicate it like this it will break the the sequence and the flow
3:52so what i will do is something like that or let's start in 16 8 bars length
4:15see this one
4:19here
4:21all of this
4:27it's not placed right so i'll take all of this
4:32and do this one
4:42yeah this one this is the sequence
4:52okay so the next step is to make it a bit more interesting and push the sequence out
4:56and to achieve this i will emphasize the third bit of each bar by changing
5:00the current node to the root node but from higher octave let me show you what i mean
5:43this is what we got till now
5:59nice and to assimilate it even more inside the track and give it more character i will use
6:04a bit of reverb and pinpoint delay that by the way i already have in
6:07return tracks here the first reverb and the second delay it's a ping pong delay
6:13now the key thing for me is no need to draw it in reverb let me show you
9:48so as you saw i put some reverb some delay and even put the gatekeeper as a side chain
10:13now if i take it to the start of the session i said to think that i will try to keep it as
10:18simple as i can and to make sure it goes along with the other things the other
10:23roles in the project now check this one the the arpeggio with the kick and the bass
11:08do
11:20okay so after our page i made some gentle changes and applied some effects
11:23and for me it feels pretty good now i will convert it to audio make some more changes
11:28maybe some more automations and basically we'll try things out to make it develop along the track
15:48so
17:55alrighty so i think yeah i think i've got it let me let me show you the final result uh in the end
18:03all things i done after after i told you what i think i'm going to do
18:08is just subtle changes as you saw walked a bit with serum uh added some phaser a bit
18:15of distortion everything is moving slightly the size of the reverb to give it like the squishiness
18:22and the changing uh changing pitch but it's all very very very low in the mix let's say
19:23so that was me with arpeggiators let's move on
