0:10um I kind of started this channel
0:13um just to see how
0:15how many people would respond to it
0:18and apparently there's a lot of people
0:20out there putting in DMP and
0:22lots of people are new at it and I have
0:25made a couple of videos uh basic
0:27programming and how to connect and doing
0:29all the basic stuff
0:32but there are people that um
0:35are having issues
0:38more depth into the programming so this
0:40is going to be uh
0:42Advanced programming
0:45and one of the hardest things on an
0:48xr150 or a DMP panel in general is
0:53knowing where to put the zones
0:56so in this video I'm gonna
0:59show you guys the different places to
1:01put zones because that is one of the
1:03hardest things to learn on this panel
1:08so we're going to go to program
1:13zones
1:16now
1:18DMP makes it where you can have
1:21zones on the LX bus or the keypad bus
1:27now
1:29there's advantages and disadvantages to
1:32both it really depends on the system
1:34that you're putting in
1:37um if you have access control
1:39Access Control modules can go on the LX
1:43bus or the keypad bus
1:47uh just so you know the xr150 you only
1:51get eight device addresses
1:54and on the 550 you get 16.
1:57so depending on which panel you have
2:01might determine where you put the Zone
2:03expanders
2:06um
2:08the advantages of putting them on the LX
2:11bus
2:14um
2:14is you can address the The Zone
2:17expanders say you have an eight Zone
2:19Zone expander you address it to double
2:21zero
2:22that would mean your first Zone would
2:24start at 500.
2:27so I get a lot of people thinking that
2:30they can just put the Zone anywhere kind
2:31of like a Honeywell panel and just put
2:34the Zone anywhere you want and that's
2:36just not the case with DMP like I said
2:38that's one of the hardest things to
2:40learn on this panel is to where to put
2:42the zone
2:44so if you are using the LX bus the
2:47drawback to that is you cannot wire it
2:49to a keypad so if you
2:51already have a a keypad out in the field
2:55you can't simply just wire off the Zone
2:57expander onto that you have to run a
2:59wire all the way back to the panel and
3:01wire it to the LX bus
3:04but when it does come to zoning it is
3:06definitely easier
3:08so if you set the address to double zero
3:11your first Zone expander would be 500
3:16all the way up 501 502 503-504-505
3:23all the way to the last Zone say you had
3:25a 16 Zone expander you would get 16
3:27zones and they would all be in sequence
3:32that's just not the case if you put it
3:34on the keypad bus the keypad bus is
3:37where people get kind of confused
3:41um
3:42you have Zone expanders that are on
3:44keypads you have Zone expanders by
3:46themselves
3:48[Music]
3:48um
3:49say you want say you have a four Zone
3:52expander built onto the keypad
3:55so if you do devices
3:59you would go to program device setup
4:04let's expand this now keep in mind
4:08the XR 150 only has eight device spots
4:14if you have a 550 you get 16. so if you
4:19if you have a lot of Access Control
4:22you may want to stick the Zone expanders
4:25on the LX bus
4:28if you don't have a lot of Access
4:29Control you just got to keep in mind you
4:32only get eight device spots on an xr150
4:38um
4:39now on the Zone expander itself there's
4:41a dip switch that says LX or keypad bus
4:46if you're using one or the other you
4:48have to put that dip switch on which one
4:51you're going to be using and it's going
4:53to have that dial you always have to set
4:56the dial
4:58uh depending on if it's on the keypad
5:00bus or the LX bus you have to set the
5:02dial and you have to set the dip switch
5:05and that's
5:07[Music]
5:07um
5:08depends on where you put the zone you
5:11can't just make it any Zone you want
5:13like a Honeywell panel
5:17say you have a keypad out in the field
5:19and you have the keypad that has four
5:22zones on it
5:24instead of running a wire all the way
5:27back to the panel you could just simply
5:29wire a a door contact straight to the
5:33keypad
5:36and but of course all keypads on the
5:39xr150s and the 550s they all keypads
5:42have to be addressed
5:44so say this keypad is device number one
5:47we're gonna add new
5:52and we're going to make it device number
5:55one and we're going to name it if it is
5:57a keypad we're going to say Lobby keypad
6:07if you have multiple areas
6:10uh you can tell this keypad what areas
6:13you want it to be able to see we're just
6:14going to do area one for now
6:18um
6:19so if you do use the zones on keypad one
6:26your first Zone would be 11.
6:30so it the first number would be the
6:32device number
6:33and you always do groups of four on the
6:37keypad bus
6:39so if it's device one
6:41it would be one and then zones one two
6:45three or four so that would be 11 12 13
6:48or 14.
6:50now say the keypad device number is 2.
6:56your first Zone would be 21 22 23 24.
7:03if it's 3 31 32 33 34.
7:09so that's how you would figure out where
7:12you would put the Zone if it's on the
7:15keypad bus
7:17now say you don't have
7:20say you're not wiring a Zone expander to
7:24the keypad or the using the zones built
7:27onto the keypad say you're actually
7:28putting in an eight Zone expander on the
7:31keypad bus
7:32so there's going to be a dial on the
7:34Zone expander
7:37say you
7:38address it to zero four
7:41if it is an eight Zone expander
7:45the first Zone would be 41. 42 43 and
7:5144.
7:54now the Second Bank of zones you have
7:57eight zones on the expander
8:00and if you addressed it to four the
8:02Second Bank of zones on to the right
8:05which you would think would be six seven
8:07eight and nine
8:09that would be 51 52 53 and 54. but you
8:15have to set them up in devices
8:18so say you did address the Zone expander
8:21to to zero four you would have to go on
8:25device programming and set device 4 and
8:285 to a Zone expander
8:34device type Zone expander
8:40now zones when you go to Zone
8:43information once you created all your
8:45devices and created all your areas
8:48I mean the Zone it's going to let you
8:51program The Zone anywhere you want which
8:54is why people get in trouble because
8:56they feel that they could make the zone
8:59and it just be anywhere they want
9:01so when you do go to zones you you have
9:05to know which zone number to put it at
9:07it's
9:08that's the that's probably the hardest
9:10thing on this panel to learn
9:13um and like I said it depends on if your
9:16Zone expander is on a keypad on a Zone
9:20expander or on the LX bus because it can
9:23be anywhere
9:25and you notice 51 that would be address
9:295 Zone one 51.
9:32now on an LX bus like I said double zero
9:37you can make that address 10 then it
9:40would start at 5 10.
9:42and then your eight zones above that
9:45so you could have multiple Zone
9:47expanders one at double zero one it
9:50two zero then that would be 520.
9:55but like I said on the devices you're
9:58limited to eight so your final address
10:01would would be 81 through 84.
10:06now as a rule of thumb DMP kind of puts
10:10thing of
10:11puts things in order kind of like this
10:14of order of importance
10:17so when I'm first building a system
10:20you probably want to start with devices
10:22you just
10:24label all your devices
10:27keypad Zone expanders whatever Access
10:30Control modules you want to put all
10:31those first
10:33the next thing I like to do
10:36is areas I kind of like to make all my
10:39areas of course this panel can do areas
10:43home and away
10:44I all in commercial
10:46in commercial applications I always use
10:49areas I just feel it's easier especially
10:53if you're doing Access Control I'd
10:55always choose an area system and that is
10:58under
11:04system options
11:07right here you can switch it to area all
11:10perimeter home sleeping away I always
11:13like I said it always in a commercial
11:17instance I always use area it's just in
11:20my opinion easier
11:23I would always recommend
11:27programming all your devices first
11:29device one
11:33Lobby keypad
11:43now if you have a Zone expander
11:51on the wiring with the keypads
11:56we're going to do new
11:59I always kind of if you are going to
12:01have Zone expanders on
12:06the keypad bus
12:08I always recommend this is an XR 150
12:11panel so we're going to start at the
12:13highest number and work our way down and
12:15I always start with the keypads at the
12:17lowest number so we're going to do
12:20this expander since it's an eight Zone
12:22we're going to use seven and eight we're
12:25just going to call it
12:27Warehouse
12:30expander
12:34here we would change it
12:37to a Zone expander
12:42now when I do this we have to make
12:46device eight also a Zone expander
12:51or else the second parts of the zones
12:53will not work
12:56so we're going to make seven and eight
12:59a Zone expander
13:13the more detailed you are with the notes
13:16it helps everyone in the future and
13:19we're just going to change that to
13:20expander
13:25apply
13:32so you notice we have Lobby keypad and
13:36keep in mind I always start at one with
13:38keypads
13:40and if you have an xr150 you would start
13:43it eight and work your way down
13:46with Zone expanders
13:49now if you do have access control I
13:52would probably recommend
13:54depending on how many Access Control
13:56doors you have because each module each
14:00access module is going to take up a spot
14:02on the devices
14:04so if you only have a couple of doors
14:07and you want to run everything off the
14:08keypad bus that's fine but say you had
14:11five doors of Access Control you would
14:14probably want to put the Zone expanders
14:16on the LX bus
14:19um it really depends on the system
14:22I mean one system you may just have a
14:25bunch of zones one other system you may
14:27have a bunch of Access Control doors
14:30um but it does give you that capability
14:32of putting it on either one
14:35um I mean you can even put access
14:37modules on the LX bus
14:41um that's a different video
14:43but the biggest part of this video is
14:46determining where to put the Zone
14:49numbers because I did have someone in
14:51the other video question
14:53okay I programmed a Zone and it and it's
14:56showing faulted it's more than likely
14:58because he put it
15:00he just made up some Zone number and
15:03thought he could just put it anywhere he
15:05wants kind of like a Honeywell panel and
15:06that's not the case with this
15:12now lots of systems have uh
15:16as you would call a partition on a
15:18Honeywell panel they call it areas
15:21this panel's kind of like an old silent
15:24knot panel when it comes to areas
15:28um I don't know if any of you guys are
15:30familiar with the Silent not panel that
15:32was I've done this for 25 years So
15:36Silent Night panels were
15:39um
15:40what we would put in back when I first
15:43started they were extremely hard
15:47um one of the hardest panels you would
15:49ever think of programming but DMP
15:52simplifies it but they do kind of use
15:54the same
15:55scenarios like having one wire go to a
15:58keypad
16:00or an access control module and in it
16:02and all the wires wired to that versus
16:06most access control panels where they
16:08would you would have to home run all the
16:10wiring
16:11but with areas
16:14you can make
16:17keypads display areas whatever areas you
16:20want you can put zones and areas
16:24um
16:28just for example we can make area one
16:32the store
16:40we could make area two
16:44the cash office
16:52could make three
16:55the warehouse
17:01always hit apply
17:04now once we make the areas
17:09um
17:15then we would go to the zone
17:23and like I said you have to know if if
17:26you're just using zones one through two
17:28and ten on the panel it's it's no big
17:30deal you know where to put those
17:33but
17:34say you had it on the Zone expander on
17:37the LX bus and you addressed it to
17:40double zero your first Zone would be
17:42500.
17:43of course we're gonna go new
17:48Zone number 500
17:53uh we're gonna tell it what area it's on
17:55we're gonna do the store
17:58we're just going to do front door
18:04and apply
18:06now you can have Zone expanders on the
18:10keypad bus and the LX bus
18:13so say you're using
18:18um we're gonna do new
18:23say you have a Zone expander on the
18:25keypad bus
18:27or a Zone expander on the keypad bus you
18:30have to know what the address of the
18:31keypad or what the address to the Zone
18:34expander is say we're putting it on
18:37keypad address number five it would be
18:4051.
18:43and then you would assign it to which
18:45area
18:46say you have a keypad in the cash office
18:48and you want to assign it there
18:51cash office door
18:59apply
19:01of course if you have it
19:04if you haven't programmed the devices
19:06yet
19:08you would need device number five
19:16set to cash office keypad
19:24and here's where you would say
19:27hey I only want this keypad looking at
19:30the cash office
19:33so we do display area two
19:40would tell it what area this zone is
19:44kind of like a partition
19:47um
19:48say you had the cash office
19:51well you would want to set this cash
19:54office to cash office area 2.
19:59and apply
20:01now under devices
20:06your cash office keypad
20:09display area 2.
20:12so this keypad can can display multiple
20:16areas
20:17but we're just making it display area
20:19two so none of the warehouse zones or
20:22none of the store zones would show up on
20:25this keypad kind of like a partition on
20:27a Honeywell panel
20:30and once again under devices
20:35you may only want the cash office keypad
20:38to show the cash off of zones but the
20:40warehouse keypad
20:43right here is display areas you may want
20:46to you want to make this keypad show the
20:49zones on different areas
20:52once again if you want it one two and
20:55three you would do one hyphen three
21:00if you only want it on one and two it'd
21:02be one comma two
21:05or one comma three for one and three
21:08now this comes in handy when you have
21:10multiple areas
21:16now if you if you have a wireless zone
21:22um
21:24I think that plugs into the X500 bus
21:28or the X bus
21:30on the panel it has a specific spot that
21:34you wire the wireless receiver
21:36the zones stay on the 500s
21:40so
21:42Wireless zones I mean you can basically
21:45put them anywhere you want so long as
21:47it's on the five in the 500 range
21:51so we would do
21:54zones
21:56I never recommend if you have a Zone
21:58expander don't ever cross say you got a
22:01wireless zone too
22:02don't ever use
22:05if you set the Zone expander to zero
22:08don't ever use any of the zones that
22:10that zone expander could use in the
22:12future
22:13or else you're just going to screw your
22:16service tech when he goes to add a Zone
22:18in the future he may not be able to use
22:19that zone expander Zone
22:22so
22:24here's Wireless
22:27we're going to do new
22:30we'll save 520.
22:35we're just going to name it Wireless
22:38door
22:44we're going to assign it an area
22:46say this is the warehouse
22:51now you would go to wireless check the
22:53box
22:57now we don't have a house code because
23:00this is a new install right here's where
23:03you would install the serial number to
23:05the wireless device
23:16and that's that the the wireless can go
23:19anywhere on the 500
23:21bus that you want now if you have a
23:24wireless key fob it would be under the
23:27400 range anywhere on the 400s
23:31for some reason they they want the the
23:33fobs on the 400s and the zones on the
23:36500s
23:38we're going to apply that and it did you
23:41do have in order to turn the wireless
23:43receiver on
23:50you have to give it a wireless code that
23:52number can be anything you want but it
23:54cannot be zero so we're going to add a
23:5710 there
23:58once you add a number in the in the
24:00house
24:02code there that will activate the
24:05wireless receiver that you install on
24:07the panel
24:10one other thing to consider
24:13is profiles
24:16I just had a customer the other day
24:19he only had two keypads but he needed
24:23three areas
24:27one of the stores where they would have
24:29drivers come in the front door and they
24:32didn't want them to have access to the
24:34rest of the store only the front door
24:36they could drop their stuff off and come
24:39in about 10 feet and walk out
24:41so he needed three areas
24:45but he only had two keypads so you can
24:47make a keypad show multiple areas
24:52but you could use the truckers code only
24:56allows him to disarm certain areas so
25:00you could have the front door on one
25:03area and have his code only activate
25:07that one area
25:12so we would we would call this profile
25:15truck driver
25:21uh hit new
25:28so this we're just going to make it
25:30number one
25:32truck driver and I see here's where
25:36okay so if if you have a Zone just on
25:40the front door and that's area one you
25:43would give him arm disarm areas one
25:48if he needs access if this particular
25:52one needs access to the whole store
25:55you would do one dash three
26:00that means he has access here to areas
26:03one two and three or anything in between
26:07if he only want if you only want to give
26:10him access to areas one and three it
26:13would be one comma three
26:18so that's uh that's kind of like a DMP
26:21because I mean say they they say you
26:24need them have access to eight areas
26:26you can do one hyphen eight and you
26:29don't have to punch in all the two three
26:32four five six and seven
26:33that's a little trick DMP gives you
26:38of course a truck driver you may
26:41you may want him to be able to arm and
26:43disarm and I mean you just have to go
26:46through all of the little choices that
26:49you can have that the truck driver may
26:52not be able to
26:53uh create codes or anything like that
26:55you just check over what you want him to
26:58be able to do and then hit apply
27:02and the final step would be user codes
27:10we would add a new one
27:14you can just make any code you want
27:18make any name you want
27:29right here's where you would tell it
27:34what privilege he has so you set the
27:37Privileges up under profiles but this I
27:40mean you may have 10 of these we only
27:43made one so we're going to assign him to
27:45the truck driver which is one
27:49I hope this this this video helps you
27:52out in zoning panels
27:55um in my opinion it's probably the
27:58hardest thing to learn on this panel
28:00uh the second hardest thing to learn is
28:03probably how to program an access
28:05control door
28:08um
28:10of course each panel has hard parts and
28:12each panel has easy Parts this panel
28:15definitely blows the Honeywell out with
28:18Alpha programming
28:19you don't have to look up a book and
28:22figure out what words to what numbers
28:24Associated words you can just use the
28:27alpha keypad with the numbers on the
28:30numbers
28:32um
28:33but on this particular panel
28:36figuring out where to put the zone is
28:38probably the hardest part
28:40if you don't really want to run an extra
28:43wire for the LX bus you have the eight
28:46zone or the eight devices
28:50um just make sure I mean you got to keep
