0:06Hey boys and girls, welcome back to New
0:08Stuff TV, the untechnical tech channel.
0:10I'm your host Antoine cram as many
0:12drivers in there as you can register
0:14because today we going to be checking
0:16out the Samsung Q990F
0:1911.1.4
0:20soundbar. Yeah, I said it right. 11.1.4
0:26soundbar. It's hard to make a soundbar
0:28look pretty, man. In fact, I've never
0:30met anybody who even wanted to look at
0:31one. They're really supposed to be heard
0:33and not seen, but if you got to look at
0:35one, you might as well look at something
0:37nice like this Samsung Q990F.
0:40Samsung did a good job with the metallic
0:42ridges and angles to give it a more
0:44modern and classic look. For those of
0:46you who like to wall mount your TVs, you
0:48can continue that nice sleek look
0:50because they included some wall mount
0:51brackets with it. The surround speakers
0:53carry on the same aesthetic, meaning
0:54that they have that angular design, but
0:56you won't help but notice that there's
0:58three grills on three sides of these
1:00speakers. So, you got up firing, front
1:02firing, and outside firing speakers.
1:05Now, typically a soundbar setup with
1:07surround speakers is only going to let
1:08you use the surrounds in the rear for
1:10full immersion. With the Q990F, you also
1:13get the option to put them in the front
1:14as well. This is going to give you a
1:16little bit more flexibility if you're
1:17dealing with smaller spaces. Now, as for
1:19the subwoofer, this is probably the
1:21smallest, most understated sub I've seen
1:23that pushes out sound this big. That
1:26monstrous rumble is probably going to be
1:27due to these dual 8-in subs in a single
1:29enclosure. Man, that's crazy. When I
1:31first saw it at Q Labs back in, I think
1:33March, I was pretty impressed by that. I
1:35thought it was going to be a passive
1:36radiator, but they went ahead and threw
1:38in an extra 8-in sub. That's nuts. Now,
1:40let's get into the inputs and features.
1:42They're giving us three HDMI inputs, and
1:44that's going to include one ER. They're
1:46giving you one optical input, and you
1:48can connect via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
1:51That means you can go full wireless with
1:53this thing. I tried it connected via
1:55Wi-Fi, like literally just pulled out
1:57the HDMI cable. I didn't know you could
1:59do that. I just pulled it out in real
2:00time, then switched it over on the TV to
2:02wireless or Wi-Fi. The sound is
2:04seamless. There's no delay in the lips
2:06and the the dialogue or anything like
2:08that. Sounds like it's a wired
2:10connection. Now, as far as the room
2:11calibration goes, you don't have to run
2:13any special tools or setups to get it
2:15done. The SpaceFit Sound Pro Plus just
2:17does it automatically using the built-in
2:19mics in the soundbar itself. Now, they
2:21have this thing called Active Voice
2:22Amplifier Pro, and from what I
2:24understand, it actually, in real time,
2:26lifts the dialogue so you can hear
2:28properly when things that like ambient
2:30sounds occur like, I don't know,
2:31vacuuming or kitchen noises and stuff
2:34like that. So, this is going to be real
2:35handy for you open-concept household
2:37kind of people. It also has Adaptive
2:39Sound, which recognizes the content and
2:41optimizes the sound for it. And this is
2:43going to include the 3D sound for
2:45gaming, as well. Now, let's talk about
2:46this Q-Symphony stuff. This is Samsung's
2:49thing. This is their way of combining
2:51the TV speakers with the soundbar itself
2:54to give you perfect dialogue sync with
2:57the actors themselves. So, if you're
2:58watching something on TV, not only do
3:00you get the soundbar blasting all that
3:02good dialogue at you, but you also have
3:04the TV acting in unison to make it seem
3:07like the the dialogue is coming from the
3:08actors' lips itself, like from the TV.
3:11You know what I'm saying? Now, it's time
3:12to get to the nitty-gritty, the content
3:14I watched. I did watch regular TV, like
3:17shows and stuff like that, and
3:18everything sounded nice and full and
3:20clean, like you would expect it to with
3:22a premium soundbar. But, we need to talk
3:24about Sinners. If you have not seen that
3:26movie, just watch it, dude. It's on Max.
3:29Get Max for the month if you don't have
3:30it already and watch the movie. But, one
3:32of my favorite scenes is the juke joint
3:34scene where Sammy starts playing that
3:36guitar.
3:37Woo, okay. That's like a 5D
3:41scene. You got so much activity and
3:43sounds coming from literally everywhere,
3:45and this soundbar does a good job of
3:48handling all of that that's going on.
3:50You got your Atmos experience, you got
3:51your left and right, you got your
3:52center, you got your back left and
3:54right, you got that subwoofer wolfing. I
3:56felt the floor vibrating from the bass,
3:59right? But, it's not necessarily an easy
4:01speaker to localize. Yes, I know exactly
4:03where I put it, but I can still feel
4:06like the omnidirectional
4:08bass that was coming from that
4:09subwoofer, that dual 8-in subwoofer.
4:12But, the handling of the sound and the
4:13positioning of the sound is what really
4:15got me. That's one of my favorite
4:17scenes, so you can't be messing that up.
4:18The Q9 90F did a fantastic job of
4:22positioning everything. Man, the drums,
4:25the guitar, like the DJ, the the Oh,
4:28man, that West Coast Y'all, man, dude,
4:30if you have not seen that movie, you
4:32have to see that movie, and when you get
4:33to that scene, you better have a solid
4:36sound system. If you don't have this
4:38sound bar, you better have a solid sound
4:40system, or you will not experience that
4:41the way it's supposed to be experienced.
4:43And the Q990F did a fantastic job. I
4:45cannot stress that enough. I was just
4:47hoping that it wouldn't mess up my
4:49scene, and it did not. But, this takes
4:52me to the low volume performance, which
4:54is insane. Okay, so it goes from 1 to
4:57100. That's insane by itself, right? And
5:00a lot of people think, "Okay, whatever."
5:01But, seriously, between like, I don't
5:04know, 5 and 8, you're actually doing
5:06fine. Like, for my hearing, I think it's
5:09fine at that level, 5 to 8. And once you
5:11start getting up to like 12 and 15,
5:14that's encroaching on a little bit too
5:16much, cuz you are getting full sound at
5:18like that level, 5 to 8. And I've never
5:21actually turned this thing up past 25,
5:24cuz that's just a little bit too much.
5:25Like, it starts to like scare me a
5:27little bit.
5:28This thing is stupid loud. Like, I will
5:30not turn it up past 25, and I'm not
5:33going to do it just so you can be
5:35satisfied and I mess up all the stuff
5:37off of my house, rattle stuff off the
5:39walls. Anyways, going back to the low
5:41volume experience. Low volume, man, you
5:43do not have to turn this thing up super
5:45loud in order to get the full
5:46experience. And then what I mean when I
5:48say that is the details in the sound,
5:50the left and right channels, the center,
5:52the Atmos and stuff like that, and even
5:54the bass. A lot of systems you do have
5:56to crank them up just a little bit just
5:57to get all of the layers of sound out of
6:00your soundbar or sound system. No, not
6:03with this one, man. I was actually very
6:04impressed with that. In fact, that is
6:06the most impressive aspect of this
6:08soundbar that I've discovered so far.
6:10Nobody spends this kind of money on
6:12something unless they want the real
6:13deal. They threw in every drive and
6:15feature they could find in the lab to
6:16build this thing. The Q990F works well
6:19with any TV, but if you pair it up with
6:21something like the TV I did last week,
6:23which was the QN90F,
6:25man, it turns into a complete home
6:28theater system. Now, I'm going to go
6:30watch Center again for like the fifth
6:32time. So, that means y'all got to get up
6:33out of here. But until I see y'all
6:35again, keep being good to each other,
6:36and I'll see you when I see you.
