0:00A freak accident at a construction site
0:02today involved a very common
0:03construction tool, something you
0:05probably have in your own kitchen. CBS 2
0:08Steve Langford reports on a simple
0:10delivery that turned tragic.
0:13The truck carrying a load of sheetrock,
0:15still at the construction site in Jersey
0:17City, hours after the truck's operator
0:19died right beside his rig. Listed as
0:22belonging to Living Right Trucking Inc.
0:25The words owned by God added to the side
0:27of the truck.
0:3058-year-old Gary Anderson of Summerdale,
0:32New Jersey killed as he was delivering
0:34the sheetrock when a tape measure fell
0:36off a construction worker's belt 50
0:39stories above, bounced off a piece of
0:41equipment near the ground, then struck
0:43the truck driver in the head. Police say
0:46Anderson was not wearing a safety
0:48helmet.

0:59site nearby and says a safety helmet
1:02would have made all the difference.
1:03Yeah, absolutely. I think uh he's he
1:05would have been hurt maybe in the
1:06hospital, but it would have um it would
1:08have probably saved a life.
1:10One worker here who didn't want to go on
1:12camera told me the victim, apparently a
1:14very religious man, was in the middle of
1:16telling a story and uttered the words
1:18"God is good" the moment right before he
1:21was hit and killed. OSHA is
1:23investigating the accident, which
1:25happened just a few feet from the
1:26entrance to a PATH station.
1:28It's very scary. I had no idea that uh
1:32something so small could do so much
1:33damage.
1:35Neither the trucking firm nor the
1:36construction company would comment on
1:38the bizarre tragedy. In Jersey City,

1:43The victim, Gary Anderson, was rushed to
1:45Jersey City Medical Center, but died an
1:48hour later.
