0:09if we really want to improve a person's
0:12health and make sure that the population
0:15is healthier we have to create a culture
0:17of Wellness in this country the things
0:20that are going to actually help you or
0:24me stay healthy are not necessarily the
0:27things that happen inside a doctor's
0:29office they are the things that allow us
0:32to choose Healthy Lifestyles on a
0:35day-by-day basis the things that nudge
0:37us to get more exercise to eat healthier
0:42to quit smoking or not stop start
0:44smoking in the first place
0:47and business employers have a role to
0:51play in this because they often create
0:53the environment that makes it makes it
0:56easy for people to choose those healthy
0:59choices schools have a role to play here
1:02because schools are where kids learn the
1:04lessons of a lifetime and schools have
1:07the opportunity to create those
1:09environments where kids can choose a
1:11healthy lifestyle and our policy leaders
1:14have a role to play because they are the
1:16ones that that enact the zoning laws and
1:20and the help us create a built
1:23environment that either encourages or
1:25discourages healthy lifestyle so I think
1:28that the things that will actually make
1:30a difference and be low Tech in
1:34improving our health are not the things
1:38that happen in the Health Care System
1:39they're the things that happen in the
1:41larger environment and will create a
1:43culture of Wellness we spend over $2
1:46trillion on medical
1:49care
1:51but of that 95% of it is going to treat
1:57people not to preventive preventing uh
2:00illness in the first
2:01place when you talk about prevention
2:04it's important to understand that a lot
2:06of the things that we can do to prevent
2:10illness primary prevention happen
2:13outside of the Health Care System
2:15clinical prevention colonoscopies
2:19mammograms things like that are
2:21important but just as important and in
2:23fact perhaps even more important are the
2:25investments in community-based
2:27prevention that keep people healthy we
2:30know that for every dollar that we can
2:33invest in community-based prevention we
2:36will get a return on an investment in
2:39about five years of
2:41$560 that is a great return on
2:44investment
