0:00This prophecy concerned the future
0:02resurrection of the Church . He said ,
0:07wrote something like this : " A large
0:09black boat will arrive and bring
0:11confessors , and then everyone will be
0:13able to confess as often as they wish ,
0:15even weekly . " And thanks to this
0:24prophecy , thanks to this testimony ,
0:26memory has been preserved from
0:28generation to generation . The memory of
0:35the sacrament , the memory of the
0:37forgiveness of sins , which people
0:39initially experienced , experienced as a
0:41result of faith in Jesus Christ , of
0:43drawing closer to Christ . We are here
0:51to experience mercy . Oh , Jesus Christ ,
0:56this is mercy . God is mercy . God wanted
1:01to reveal Himself in our generations as
1:03mercy . It turned out that Father
1:10Michał Sopoćko , who was a professor
1:13of theology in St. Petersburg , also in
1:15Vilnius , when he met Sister Faustina
1:17and went through all this turbulence ,
1:19such disbelief , disbelief , struggling
1:22through the shock , the stress
1:24associated with what he heard from this
1:26nun , this vibrating , living power , the
1:28message of Divine Mercy . Especially
1:36later , when he began to delve into the
1:38search for sources , roots in the holy
1:40books , in the Holy Scripture , in the
1:43tradition of the Church , he suddenly
1:45stood in this incredible , well ,
1:47astonishment , because he said : " Dear
1:49God , after all , this is what the Church
1:51has lived with for millennia , and we ,
1:54as the last generations , have lost this
1:56dimension of God , this way of
1:58recognizing God . Somehow , I don't know
2:04what , but the enormous number of wars ,
2:06especially religious ones , the division
2:09of Europe , Christianity , what people
2:11have experienced , has filled them with
2:14such a portion , a dose of cruelty and
2:16unexpectedly nothing but pain and
2:18suffering , that then this image of God ,
2:21who rewards good and punishes evil , has
2:23developed from it . " We still have it in
2:28songs to this day . If an angry father
2:34slashes , then happy is the one who runs
2:36to his mother . The image of a God who
2:41is just , who is great , powerful , but
2:43from whom it is better to keep a
2:45distance , because you never know . It
2:49may be smiling , but as some say ,
2:51sometimes it resembles someone holding
2:53a baseball bat behind their back . That
2:57as soon as he sees your sins , as soon
2:59as he sees your life , as soon as he
3:01slaps you one day , you'll see stars . We
3:05had this idea of God , and suddenly
3:07heaven reveals itself , because the
3:13generation of our parents , grandparents
3:15, who lived through the Bolshevik
3:17Revolution , what could be done under
3:19the red flag , two world wars , and the
3:21cruelty of the late 20th century as
3:23well . To think that people who use
3:32modern cars , cell phones , the internet ,
3:35killed each other in the Balkans with
3:37batons to kill animals , and we're still
3:39here , constantly at risk of slipping
3:41back into zoology , into a civilization
3:44of animals , people who will bite , hate ,
3:53who will throw themselves at each
3:55other's throats , or who will withdraw
3:57into themselves because they won't ,
3:59because they'll conclude that in this
4:01living space , it's impossible to
4:03breathe , impossible to live . That's why
4:09we have housing estates that are being
4:11closed with an increasing number of
4:12gates , and more and more access codes
4:14guarding our homes and possessions .
4:19Because one person is becoming a
4:20dangerous wolf to another , and today
4:22even more so , one person is becoming a
4:24virus to another , so that we need to
4:26fear everyone . How much we needed God ,
4:32through an ordinary nun , to reveal to
4:34us that passage of the Gospel that we
4:36had forgotten . God is mercy . We pray to
4:45God that God comes to give us new birth
4:48, to give us life , that He will never
4:50take this life away from us , never
4:52question it ; on the contrary , He will
4:54saturate it with life , saturate it with
4:56love and forgiveness . And it was
5:04precisely God who wanted this to be
5:06placed right next to that powerful
5:08spotlight of faith , the resurrection of
5:10Christ . That this Sunday of Divine
5:14Mercy comes to explain to us what it
5:16means that Christ is risen , that death
5:18has been defeated . What significance
5:21can this have for you and me ? This is
5:23the strength of the Church . That is why
5:26the Church constantly lives by
5:27resurrection . The Resurrection . I
5:33realized how powerful it is when I
5:35recently encountered the description of
5:37the so-called Eastern miracle . It was
5:42being invoked at this very moment , when
5:44churches around the world are being
5:46closed and people are being distanced
5:48from the sacraments , from the Lord's
5:50table . After all , it was only recently
5:55in winter , when we saw , for example , in
5:58France , people praying standing outside
6:00churches because they were closed and
6:02Mass could not be celebrated . A priest
6:06who tried to open Mass in Ireland , for
6:08example , risked two years in prison .
6:16Many people were still discouraged ,
6:18many were pushed away by dispensations ,
6:21permissions , fear from the sources of
6:27faith . However , there were also cases
6:31where people lost access to faith — I'm
6:34sorry , they lost access to the liturgy ,
6:36to the sacraments , to communal prayer
6:38— through persecution , harassment , and
6:41severe harassment . And this is
6:44precisely the Eastern miracle . It was
6:48recorded , described in Japan . Namely ,
6:53Japan , where Catholics , faithful people
6:56, survived for over 250 years . Deprived
7:01of the sacraments , deprived of priests ,
7:03deprived of access to Holy Mass , to
7:06confession . How could that be ? When ,
7:14after many years , a Jesuit , sent by
7:17Pope Bus , the 19 th-century Goon ,
7:19Father Petidan , finally arrived ,
7:21suddenly it turned out that initially
7:23about 30 Catholics , who had been in
7:26hiding for generations , came to him .
7:34And then , as a result of this encounter
7:37, it turned out that there were still
7:39over 110,000 people living this way and
7:43surviving for over 250 years . When the
7:54Gospel began to be preached in Japan in
7:56the 15th century , when St. Francis
7:58Xavier arrived , Catholic communities
8:01were formed there as a result of the
8:03proclamation of Christ , of the
8:05resurrected love , of the resurrected
8:07love of God , and priests arrived , and
8:09people experienced mercy . Then came the
8:17persecution instigated by the ruler of
8:19Nagasaki . And this persecution lasted
8:23250 years . People died . They were
8:26forced to descend into hiding places ,
8:28into the catacombs . How on earth is
8:31this possible , everyone wonders ? A
8:35living faith survived for 250 years . As
8:42it turns out , what kept the Japanese
8:44Catholics there hopeful was a certain
8:46testimony , titled " The Prophecy of
8:53Catechist Sebastian about the Future
8:55Resurrection of the Church . " That was
8:59its title . And it was a work , like a
9:02testimony , written at the end of the
9:1110th century by a young catechist ,
9:13assistant , and missionary in Japan , who
9:15, as a result of confessing to Christ
9:17and preaching Christ , was subjected to
9:20severe persecution for three years and
9:22three months , imprisoned , then beheaded
9:24. He left this testimony , and in this
9:31testimony , there was a certain prophecy
9:34written . This prophecy concerned the
9:39future resurrection of the Church . He
9:45said , wrote something like this : " In
9:47seven generations , they will come to
9:50Japan , the Great Black Boat will come
9:52to Japan and bring confessors , and then
9:54everyone will be able to confess as
9:56often as they want , even every week .
10:06And thanks to this testimony , thanks to
10:08this testimony , the memory was
10:10preserved from generation to generation
10:12. The memory of the sacrament , the
10:19memory of the forgiveness of sins ,
10:21which people initially experienced ,
10:23experienced as a result of faith in
10:25Jesus Christ , drawing closer to Christ .
10:33And this experience of forgiveness ,
10:34mercy wrapped in sacraments was so
10:36strong that later people consoled each
10:38other with the fact that such a moment
10:41would come , such a time would come . And
10:46in addition , a certain practice in the
10:48church was added to this . Namely , at
10:52the end of the Council of Trent in 1563
10:55, the Council Fathers called on all
11:05Catholics in the world to cultivate the
11:07desire for forgiveness of sins , because
11:09there is nothing more terrible than to
11:11die , to depart this world unreconciled
11:13with God . Because if someone were to
11:22experience a sudden death or Due to the
11:24inability to confess , a person without
11:26forgiveness of sins , without an
11:28encounter with the Risen Christ , goes
11:30to hell . People experienced illnesses
11:37or conflicts that erupted with this
11:39fear , this anxiety . Therefore , the
11:45Church commanded that at least once a
11:47year every Catholic who believes in
11:49Jesus should receive the sacrament of
11:52penance , to reinforce within themselves
11:54, as if to apply within themselves this
11:56antibiotic of God , which is forgiveness
11:58and mercy , to experience it profoundly .
12:03What does it mean that God forgives ? It
12:06means that He not only lets go of the
12:08memory of sins , but destroys them ,
12:10takes them upon Himself . In return , He
12:16gives them a sweet , wonderful
12:18experience of love , tenderness , joy ,
12:20defeated evil , being liberated , being
12:23born again as a child of God . And at
12:29the same time , in Japan , missionaries
12:31left a certain booklet with penitential
12:34prayers . That is , people who have no
12:43access to a priest , to the sacrament of
12:45penance , to draw on the teachings of
12:47the Council of Trent , to Remember that
12:49what unites a Christian with God is the
12:51initiation of a perfect act of
12:53contrition . And even the Jesuit
13:00missionaries , after leaving the
13:02Japanese , taught a certain prayer ,
13:04which the Japanese called Oraszo . It
13:08was a Japanese transformation of the
13:10Latin word Oraco , meaning prayer . They
13:16taught that prayer should be the
13:17initiation of a perfect act of
13:19contrition before God . We were also
13:24taught this as children , remember ? Oh ,
13:28I repent of my anger only for your love
13:30. Be the love in me , a sinner striving
13:34for reform . From childhood , we were
13:38taught this type of prayer , this type
13:40of breaking of the heart before God .
13:42And to such an extent that when
13:44persecution broke out in Japan and
13:46people were unable to benefit from the
13:48sacrament , especially confession , they
13:50would awaken this act of contrition
13:52within themselves . There was even a
13:57practice of returning to this prayer
13:59daily , hoping that , whenever the
14:01opportunity arose , one would be able to
14:03approach a priest , to confession , and
14:06experience God's forgiveness , to
14:07experience something incredible ,
14:09extraordinary , This is also strongly
14:12emphasized in the Orthodox tradition of
14:14the sacrament of penance . Namely , in
14:20Orthodoxy , the priest who receives
14:22confession from the penitent first says
14:25: " Remember , there is God and you are ,
14:27and I am a witness to your meeting . " Of
14:34course , the priest then , at a certain
14:36moment , lends his body , his nervous
14:39system , his sensitivity to Jesus , so
14:41that in the name of Christ or in the
14:43person of Christ he may grant
14:45forgiveness of sins . It is not we who
14:50grant forgiveness of sins ; it is Christ
14:53who grants it , but he does it in a
14:55physical , tangible , precise way , as a
14:58fact , a historical event . " I forgive
15:02you , I absolve you , " says Jesus Christ .
15:12And even when there was severe
15:14persecution in Japan , to the point that
15:16captured Catholics were forced to
15:18trample on an image of Christ if they
15:20were not subjected to severe torture ,
15:22they often broke down , did so , and then
15:24returned home and , with full repentance
15:27, reached for this prayer and said the
15:29Orasho . They prayed to God , they
15:38crushed hearts before God , living in
15:40the hope that whenever the opportunity
15:42arises , whenever the opportune moment
15:44arises , we will be able to confess to a
15:47priest those sins that we now place in
15:49God's hands . This life was a constant
15:53spiritual resurrection . And this
15:56sensitivity , this practice , this reflex
15:58, and this prayer were passed down from
16:01generation to generation , waiting for
16:03this opportune moment . 250 years , until
16:07the boats with new priests finally
16:09arrived , and people could once again
16:12have freedom , and people could once
16:14again receive the sacraments . Another
16:19beautiful detail is contained in the
16:21history , the experience of these
16:23Japanese people . Namely , in the
16:26prophecy of Catechist Sebastian I
16:28mentioned , it also describes how to
16:30recognize whether the priest who comes
16:33to you truly has the power to forgive
16:35sins , whether he is real . Because , you
16:39know , this is especially important
16:41today . We live in a time when we have
16:44already experienced chocolate-like
16:46products , and they weren't chocolate at
16:48all , so today you can find coffee
16:53without caffeine , butter without milk .
17:00Now they are trying to convince us
17:02encourage people to eat meat made from
17:04artificial plants , so you can also
17:06encounter a false priest . You have to
17:10check whether he truly has the power of
17:12Christ to forgive sins . And Sebastian
17:14said , you can test him by asking him
17:16three questions . First , are you
17:19celibate ? Second , what is the name of
17:22your superior in Rome ? And third , do
17:24you respect the Mother of God . And
17:28indeed , when those Christians there , at
17:30the end of the 19th century , saw
17:32someone coming to them who claimed to
17:34be a Catholic priest , and it was this
17:36Father Petijan . The first thing they
17:41asked him was this : Do you respect the
17:46Mother of God ? Do you respect the Pope ?
17:50Are you celibate ? Yes , yes , yes . And in
17:53that case , where is the Mother of God ?
17:54Did you bring her with you ? And he
17:56immediately pulled out , ordered the
17:58statue of Mary , which he was carrying ,
18:00to be pulled out of the boat . Because
18:03it had happened earlier that those very
18:05Catholics in hiding had learned that
18:07there was a reviving A small church in
18:09Nagasaki , but it turned out they were
18:11Anglicans . They stopped by with a
18:15delegation and happened to find the
18:16pastor's wife there , who welcomed them
18:18into her home and offered them English
18:20tea . They quickly retreated back to
18:24their hiding place . See the power . The
18:29resurrection of the church . And it's
18:30not about institutions . The
18:32resurrection of the church , who we are ,
18:36passes through mercy . Because mercy
18:41means that Christ comes to resurrection
18:44in your life and mine , in your
18:45biography and mine , amidst your sins
18:48and mine , amidst what we experience
18:50every day , that is , death , dying as a
18:52result of the inability to love , the
18:54inability to forgive . When our hearts
19:01close , when our lips tighten , when
19:03those ugly words , vulgarities come to
19:05our lips , when we want to argue or do ,
19:08when we destroy relationships with
19:10loved ones , when we hurt someone we
19:16care about , someone we love , then life
19:19becomes unbearable . A life full of
19:24failures , Full of failures , full of
19:26selfishness , it is unbearable .
19:32Christian life , the symptom of a living
19:35person is love . So , as it were , the
19:39hallmark of a person who is resurrected
19:42within themselves is sensitivity to you
19:44. Love God , love others . Look where we
19:50are today . We are the selfie generation
19:52today . And the selfie generation begins
19:55every sentence with " I. " I deserve " I.
19:59" If you pick up Witold Gąbrowicz's
20:04diary , I respect Witold Gąbrowicz
20:06greatly , but this is symptomatic . If
20:09you open his diary , he is the precursor
20:11of the self generation . You'll find
20:16something like this : Monday me , Tuesday
20:19me , Wednesday and me . Can you guess
20:23what Thursday and Friday are ? How far
20:26removed is your life from this ? Me , my
20:32rights , my opinion , my reason , this
20:34piece of floor is mine , my money , my
20:37rights . And you can go through life
20:43like a battering ram , burning
20:44everything around you , and then be
20:46surprised that emptiness , loneliness ,
20:48stress remain . Look how much we needed ,
20:53how much we need , like a camera .
20:57oxygenated mercy . Only that mercy be
21:03preached to us , that the Gospel open to
21:06us in our very being , in the very heart
21:08. Because what does it mean that God is
21:12merciful to me and you ? It doesn't mean
21:16only that He is merciful , that you can
21:18make a mistake with the Lord God and he
21:20won't immediately draw consequences .
21:26Yes , it's always wonderful and sweet to
21:28find someone in life with whom you can
21:30make a mistake , who won't immediately
21:32draw who knows what conclusions from it
21:34. But it's something more , because God
21:39showed his mercy . We read this in the
21:42second reading . Through Christ giving
21:48us new birth , that what conquers the
21:50world is our being born again . And when
21:55are you born again ? When do you
21:59encounter forgiveness , mercy , that we
22:01are given a new life ? How important is
22:05this ? Look today , Jesus comes to the
22:08disciples who are closed off out of
22:10fear , with anxiety . Distance , so as not
22:14to give To hurt ourselves again , so as
22:16not to be disappointed by others ,
22:18because I know what I can expect from
22:20others , from life . We become cautious ,
22:24we become pusillanimous , minimalists ,
22:30invoking our own rights , multiplying
22:32the law . John Paul II once said that in
22:38societies where God is sought , in
22:40societies that lose God , laws and
22:42regulations are multiplied . And we are
22:47already lost in these regulations . They
22:50contradict each other . And this can
22:56lead to this , John Paul II said , that
22:59man , in the majesty of his freedom , in
23:01the majesty of his own , in the majesty
23:04of democracy , will create a new
23:06totalitarianism in the world , because
23:11there is no mercy in law . Mercy is in
23:15the living person of God , who loves you
23:17and me , who passes through our
23:19exclusion zones , reaches that place
23:21where we have often hidden . Out of fear
23:26of other people , out of fear of the
23:28opinion of others , out of fear of
23:30rejection , that Christ enters there and
23:32says : " Peace be with you , receive the
23:35Spirit . " And the Holy Spirit pours
23:39forgiveness into their hearts . And
23:41thanks to this , Jesus can say : " As the
23:44Father has sent me , so I send you .
23:47Bring into the lives of others what you
23:49yourselves experience from me . He sends
23:52us not alone , but precisely with the
23:54Holy Spirit who brings forgiveness .
23:56Whose sins you forgive , they will be
23:58forgiven , and whose sins you retain ,
24:00they will be retained . How much do we
24:05need this ? How much people need this .
24:10Recently , a family returned from a
24:12mission in Toulon in the south of
24:14France . These are areas where there is
24:18either complete atheistic secularism or
24:21Muslims . Entire neighborhoods of
24:25Muslims in the south of France , and it
24:27is there that these Christian families
24:29go to begin anew the Christian mission ,
24:31the proclamation of Jesus , the
24:33resurrection . They returned , gave me
24:37their diary , and there was a beautiful
24:39episode in it , telling how these
24:41Catholic families went to various
24:43places to preach the Gospel to people
24:45in apartment blocks . One time , they
24:50also went to the train station , because
24:52there were many poor people there ,
24:54people with scratches and wounds , and
24:56they preached Jesus to them , preached
24:58forgiveness of sins , mercy . They spoke
25:04little French , so they simply told them
25:06their own lives . And if I start telling
25:10you my life , you'll want to tell me
25:12yours too . That's how it works . And
25:16then they exchanged their experiences .
25:20Redeemed life touched life in need of
25:22redemption . A spark passes , the Holy
25:25Spirit is transferred , mercy is poured
25:28out . One time , they were somewhere at
25:32the station and learned from someone
25:34that the bishop was there , the bishop
25:36of Toulon , on the platform . So these
25:40missionaries ran quickly to seize the
25:42opportunity . They caught up with this
25:45bishop , he was waiting for the train
25:47and said , " Father , bless us . " And who
25:50are you ? Well , we are missionaries here
25:52. And I remember you came to me once ,
25:54and what are you really doing here ?
25:56Well , we're preaching the Gospel here .
25:58Where ? To these people . Yes , to these
26:00people . He walks up to a certain beggar
26:03, just like that , sitting at the train
26:05station , and this bishop asks , " Do you
26:07know these people ? " Yes , I know them .
26:10Yes . And what do they do ? They come
26:13here and tell us all sorts of things .
26:15And what did they tell you ? They told
26:18me that God loves me just the way I am
26:21and forgives all my sins . The bishop of
26:26this MP said , " Well , well , that's
26:28enough . The train is just arriving and
26:32he's getting on board . He left those
26:36missionaries , and that , that poor
26:39man , jumped up , the bishops ran after
26:41him and said , " Father , Father , bless
26:43them , because they gave me back hope . "
26:49I remember once when I was in Italy ,
26:51just after Easter . We went to various
26:55places on Sundays to pass on this
26:57spirit to other people , to preach the
27:00faith , to bear witness , to pass on
27:02forgiveness . And I went with one of
27:06them , Nello , he was a surgeon , because
27:08the two of us did it . We went to the
27:12hospital on Sunday , and there was a boy
27:14sitting on a wall . We went up to him
27:18and started talking about it . Christ ,
27:21we have good news for you . Christ loves
27:23you . He allowed himself to be nailed to
27:26the cross for you . He forgives you all
27:29your sins . There is God's mercy . You
27:32can experience it . Believe it . And he
27:34listened , listened , listened . So
27:36expressionless on his face . We didn't
27:38know how this story would end . When we
27:40were exhausted , when we finished , at
27:42some point he turned around on the wall
27:44and started calling out to a girl
27:46sitting in the back . " Come here , come
27:49here . " She clearly didn't want to , she
27:51didn't feel like it , but he insisted . "
27:53Come here . " And she came , when she came
27:56, she sat down next to him on the wall .
27:59He said , " Can you tell her everything
28:01you told me ? " And we did the same to
28:04this girl , repeating the same thing to
28:06her . And when we finished , he looked at
28:11the girl and said , " So what , you want
28:13to kill yourself ? " She looked at him
28:18and at us and said , " Well , somehow , not
28:21so much . How happy I was when we went
28:27there the next Sunday and saw that girl
28:28. Jesus is merciful . Jesus reveals
28:37something so fantastic , something we
28:39won't learn in any laboratory or in any
28:42lecture at the best university , with
28:44all due respect for human knowledge ,
28:46culture , and wisdom . " Only in Christ is
28:51something so extraordinary and so
28:53fantastic revealed . Such a powerful
28:59source of rebirth , of spiritual
29:01resurrection , that is mercy . Think
29:07about it , take it to heart , and carry
29:09it . Take it to where you live , where
29:13you live , where you work — this message
29:15, this tidings . God is merciful to you .
29:25And now something truly special . On the
29:27occasion of Fulton Shin's beatification
29:29, a monumental new book by Father
29:31Robert Skrzypczak is being published ,
29:33dedicated to one of the greatest
29:35Catholic preachers of the 20th century .
29:38A man who , not without reason , was
29:40called God's microphone . It's over 500
29:43pages , hundreds of extraordinary
29:45stories , photographs , and priceless
29:47archival materials . The first part
29:49takes us through the life , work ,
29:51mission , and teachings of Archbishop
29:54Shin . The second , written by Sheryl
29:56Hughes , shows him from a completely
29:58different perspective through the
30:00people he led to conversion : artists ,
30:03intellectuals , communists , media
30:05figures , politicians , and even showbiz .
30:07And that is precisely why this book is
30:10so timely . Shin perfectly understood
30:12the crisis of his era . He staunchly
30:15opposed modernist tendencies , but he
30:17also opposed the left and attempts to
30:19dilute the Catholic faith . He didn't
30:22adapt the church to the world . He
30:25showed the world the fullness of
30:26Catholicism and attracted millions of
30:28people . This book was prepared for the
30:31unique moment of Fulton Shin's
30:33beatification . If you want to meet a
30:36man who was able to conquer modern
30:38media for the Gospel , don't wait ! Order
30:41it now from the White Raven store ,
30:43because only here and only for
30:45pre-order , the book is 25 złoty
30:47cheaper . The link is in the pinned
30:49comment and in the video description .
