0:03okay so hopefully you guys are following
0:07along with your discos open so it's
0:11helpful to just do things as we go if
0:15you are just make sure you're on the
0:17latest version of disco it should look
0:20like my disco does now
0:23if you have the older version you can go
0:27into your settings in the top right
0:30corner and under app settings it does
0:32not look the same as this but it should
0:33say switch to version to do that now if
0:39you have not done that I want to start
0:43off the bat with some like general
0:45housekeeping functions in here at that a
0:49lot of people don't know exists and
0:50anytime I tell people about this they
0:54end up like losing their minds how such
0:56a simple thing can change your whole
0:59workflow in disco and the first thing is
1:02when you first log into your disco most
1:06of the time the playlists are gonna be
1:08pretty large and the title will cut off
1:10as you can see in my disco I have a very
1:15like a larger column here so I can see
1:18the entire title so for you to change
1:21that on your end you can go into your
1:23settings in the top right corner go into
1:26settings an account select app settings
1:29and then change the Explorer column
1:33width to large
1:34yours is probably set to default so if
1:38you just change that to large and then
1:41update your settings that will make it a
1:44lot wider the other option is to change
1:48the explorer column density to compact
1:50which I quite like just so I can view
1:54more of my playlists so if I pop here to
1:58browse you can see if you get your doing
2:01on your end it should expand you can
2:03also just zoom in and out of your
2:05browser if you want to see more
2:07playlists and columns from there the
2:12other thing that you can do is when you
2:15hover over the metadata on a truck
2:18you'll notice I have formats BPM and
2:21year you can change that to be whatever
2:25metadata fields are important for you to
2:27view quickly now you can also do that
2:30when you open up a track and you'll
2:33notice here I have comments BPM explicit
2:36and one stop with your custom fields
2:38that I will show you in a moment but
2:40these can be changed to whatever you
2:43want as well so to do that you'll go
2:45into your settings again and we'll go
2:48into app settings and then these two
2:51fields here choose the information to
2:54display on your track hover so if Jean
2:57résumé or comments you can do that and
3:00then here is where you would choose the
3:03metadata fields on the Explorer so that
3:06right hand column
3:09can I just note that you can remove and
3:12add back so you can remove them all and
3:15then add them back in the order you'd
3:18like them to actually appear on the yep
3:25another thing you can do when you are
3:28sending a playlist page to someone you
3:32can put your contact details at the
3:34bottom which is just another way for
3:35people to know who to contact for
3:37licensing and it looks quite nice so
3:39again let's go back to our settings and
3:42it's just in profile and account here
3:44contact details put your name company
3:48name email phone number and just make
3:51sure this tick box is selected to
3:53include the details on your public disco
3:56pages and we're going to get into
3:58building a playlist and I'll highlight
4:00where that is visible on playlist pages
4:03in the moment
4:08so let's talk about searching in Disco
4:12the search is really designed to work as
4:17fast as you're thinking and it is as
4:20close to Google as we could possibly get
4:23so the beauty of it is just you start
4:26typing whatever parameters and tags are
4:29at us BPM you need and the search here
4:32so if I need swagger rock and it needs
4:36to be gritty and I need an indie act I
4:39am just type those in I do not need
4:42commas you just stream-of-consciousness
4:46go if I need a specific lyric I can put
4:52or like an artist let's say I can put
4:54that in quotes maybe I need the lyric to
4:58be strong
5:00in quotes this narrows my search
5:03significantly so now I know have two
5:05songs I can pitch
5:08drag it over to the right to start
5:09creating a playlist the other thing I
5:13can do here is what we call a boolean
5:18search we don't really call that
5:19everyone does but there's a boolean and
5:22search capability in disco and what that
5:24is is it allows you to omit certain
5:26keywords from your search so let's say I
5:29wanted to ensure that there weren't any
5:31female vocals that would come up in my
5:34search I would just simply hit - female
5:39so now only mailbox will appear this is
5:43on brief oh it over to my playlist
5:48now there are loads of advanced
5:51filtering options you can do as well
5:54would you can describe from the arrow
5:56here you can filter by a specific album
5:59artists BPM you can even do a range
6:04let me turn my D and D off sorry all I
6:13can do
6:15a sir
6:15bias is a specific internal comment that
6:18I've left or a composer specific lyrics
6:22release here can also do a range here
6:25and then these are all custom fields
6:28again I'll get to in a moment but
6:30they're all easily searchable and you
6:33can sort by them you can also search by
6:37playlist tags by our new track tags
6:43which I can just hover over any of these
6:46categories and do a search for blues
6:51time period so you can search by when a
6:58playlist was created or when new music
7:01was uploaded to your disco if you want
7:04to know which tracks have been uploaded
7:06to your disco this month let me clear
7:09this so we can see it let's say this
7:13month and then I'll just toggle over two
7:16tracks show results I've only added one
7:22song great now if you want to see what
7:25playlists were created this month you
7:27could just toggle over to the playlist
7:29view or albums you can also search by
7:35specific groups and by groups we need
7:38channels which are like your your folder
7:41structure filing system or your inboxes
7:44and again inboxes are your way to
7:46receive music now by default if any
7:49music is living in your inbox it's not
7:52going to appear it's not going to be
7:55indexed in appearance search unless you
7:57go into the group and search by your a
8:00in our inbox there is a setting on our
8:05end if you wanted to make anything in
8:07your inboxes by default indexed and
8:10searchable you can just reach out to us
8:12so we can flip that on if not you'll
8:14just need to go into the groups to
8:15search
8:20hey Katrina we heard a question about
8:24getting one sort of putting one stop in
8:27the metadata and so there's just a
8:32couple of ways to do that one is a if
8:35you use custom fields you can have a one
8:38stop checkbox be you can just literally
8:42write the words one stop often that's in
8:44the grouping field which you know people
8:46talk about their clearance and flow
8:48there or the comments field of the
8:49metadata but also the native tags which
8:53we haven't really touched on yet yeah so
8:59why don't you jump into that Katrina and
9:01show them the types yeah yeah so this is
9:07another way you can searches by the
9:09native tags here so why don't I go
9:11through this and then let me show you
9:12where you can put one-stop so all of
9:16these tags here first of all all the
9:18tags in this disco have been tagged by
9:21Rai if you don't have auto tagging on
9:24your plan which we'll get to it a little
9:26later these are all manually added now
9:29so to add those there's a tag icon here
9:33and a tag icon up here and I can just
9:37select that and we've already loaded you
9:39up with the main categories that are
9:42used and most commonly used tags and
9:45sync
9:45these have been concerts for music
9:47supervisors and sync teams so they're
9:49what you're used to using every day like
9:51swagger so I can just go in here if I
9:54need to add like moody as a mood and
9:58feel add it
10:01and then I can also just search some of
10:05this is dance and there's type it what I
10:11had removed moody goodness so this is
10:19where you can also add one stop and add
10:21it as a type there it is
10:25now if there are tags that you want to
10:29add to this that we don't have you can
10:31go up to the settings wheel here and go
10:35into add tags maybe there isn't one for
10:39I don't know if you choose a category
10:45just usually helps I think you have to
10:51just start typing in and stuck the
10:54category so now this is like in my
10:58library of tax just a quick question
11:03about any of your tags there's a
11:06question just about adding tag
11:07categories we don't allow you to create
11:10new categories you have to use the house
11:13but you can add as many tags to those
11:15categories as you want yep
11:18good show one stop is not default I
11:21believe so you will need to add one stop
11:23as your own tag what's great about
11:26having it's as a tag here is I can just
11:29select one stop to then see all of the
11:31other songs in my catalog I don't want
11:33stop then it's also gonna pull up with
11:38some other tags that are similarly
11:40tagged to other songs so I can kind of
11:43go down the rabbit hole of searching
11:44here where it's like alright I need pop
11:46that's one stop there just narrowing it
11:52down more and female vocals which is
11:59okay one song great so go
12:07back actually let me keep going on
12:10search real quick and finish this up and
12:12then I'll go back to the one stop thing
12:14another way you can search in Disco is
12:17what we call the breadcrumb trail so if
12:20I have a song open I can scroll down
12:22here and it shows me that this song
12:24appears in four playlists so this is
12:27great for me just having a historical
12:29record of all of the playlists that I've
12:31created and my teammates have created so
12:35you can green other ideas and as you
12:37know especially in sync one of the same
12:39themes are always bubbling map so if
12:40you've already done the work of creating
12:42a playlist why not just reference stuff
12:45we've already done so from here I can go
12:48in and check this Marlon Williams track
12:50out see that I put that in 70 playlists
12:54we pitched it for a target commercial
12:56what else did we pitch for that that
12:58could be on grief for current but this
13:01just like goes down the breadcrumb trail
13:03and rabbit hole
13:04another Pulis and then I'm just gonna do
13:07mout so you can kind of see like it's
13:09kind a lot but just show you the pathway
13:11here and then if you want to get to the
13:15beginning of your search there's two
13:17ways you can do it one just use your
13:19trackpad or your mouse to go back and
13:21forth or use the arrow keys on your
13:24keyboard to go back and forth can I just
13:27make a quick note on just the breadcrumb
13:30trail is really what disco was built
13:32around in in the very very first
13:34instance because we had a whole team of
13:37music supervisors working together and
13:40before this they were all on their own
13:42iTunes account very separate but they'd
13:45always collaborate and we're going to go
13:47under the stuff so the breadcrumb trail
13:49is amazing because you're going through
13:51everyone else's work on your team so the
13:54search they did five years ago could be
13:56relevant again today so it's sort of
13:59like this idea of banking ideas there
14:03was one quick question just about the
14:05native tags that I think we should
14:06address they don't travel between discos
14:10when you send but there is a sitting oh
14:13it's you Mona so Katrina yep where you
14:16can have them right into the comments of
14:19the method
14:21it's in business settings and you have
14:23to be an admin of the account it's these
14:25cv settings at the bottom let's see
14:29that's checked there right native tags -
14:31comments metadata field on download so
14:34that's when it's sent to another disco
14:36like they save it to disco or they just
14:39download the files that's when they
14:42would be added to the comments field of
14:44the many buttons and it will apply to
14:49if you already have comments in the
14:50metadata on a track it'll apply after
14:52what's already there did you say that
14:57already by the way okay so how's
15:05everyone feeling on search are there any
15:07other questions we should address before
15:09we move on to building a playlist which
15:12is let's see there's a few questions
15:15here they're an efficient way to bench
15:19tag manually probably building playlists
15:24of very similar things and then applying
15:26a lot of the same tags to them you can
15:27do that by just editing all or you can
15:32do on a spreadsheet as well where you so
15:35if I'm in this playlist oh sorry
15:37and it all just quickly I'm in a
15:40playlist here there's a menu at the top
15:42I can select edit all and then if I have
15:45the same contact details for my comment
15:47I can just go in here and write that and
15:49it'll apply to all the tracks
15:52interesting as I write it while you're
15:58filtering through some questions let me
16:00go back to the one stop stop
16:02so here's a good example of where you
16:05can add one stop in the grouping field
16:07um also add it to the comments and then
16:12custom fields so this by default is not
16:16on your plan when you log in to disco
16:19but if you want this just reach out to
16:22us and we can work with you on building
16:24out really any custom information that's
16:26really helpful for you to have on tracks
16:28they can be tick boxes for one stop or
16:32if it's like
16:33on hold for pitching at the moment
16:35explicit lyrics any fields that you want
16:40sounds like all off search options here
16:44any lyrical themes which are kind of now
16:46in native tags now if you need to add a
16:49drop-down for let's say those status of
16:52a license we sent it and then maybe I
16:55need to put a date range or a certain
16:57date for the terms or the expiry you can
17:01put master catalogue info more robust
17:04publishing information this is really
17:07like we're down to customize this as
17:09much as possible with the fields you see
17:11here but just reach out to us and we can
17:14make this happen and then again it's all
17:16indexed and searchable in your disco a
17:22real quick Katrina just one thing yeah
17:25about editing on spreadsheets so you can
17:29ask support at any time to export your
17:33disco on to a CSV file so it'll have all
17:37of the metadata that currently exists in
17:40your account you can mean fix and edit
17:43and add more information on that sheet
17:46and then you just ask support to
17:48re-import it once you've finished so you
17:51could do that each month just to make
17:53sure everything's clean and bulk you
17:57know bulk fix your metadata good calm
18:03okay well if we're good on search then
18:07let's move on to building a playlist and
18:09then sharing the playlist so I have
18:13these tracks in like my short list area
18:15as you can see I have some instrumentals
18:19in here so what would be helpful is if I
18:22was able to create like a subfolder in a
18:25playlist like playlist in a playlist and
18:27so you would use sections for that so
18:30there's a menu here add section I'm
18:35going to do instrumentals now I can drag
18:39the section name wherever I want to
18:41create that subfolder and then to
18:44rearrange the track order it's all
18:46drag-and-drop
18:48if I need to change the name of my
18:51section I can do it straight from here
18:53so maybe for this sake let's go back to
18:56an option of having different budget
18:58tiers as sections so do on here my 5 to
19:0510k options you can also change the
19:11track order from the menu here change
19:13track order and then you can sort by
19:17artist A to Z track title alphabetically
19:20they added your disco release your etc
19:29some of these songs don't have I noticed
19:32that they don't have any album artwork I
19:34can also edit the metadata from within
19:36the playlist creator as well you can
19:38edit it in the middle here that would
19:41just happen via the eye
19:47so I got this new playlist I'm gonna
19:49send title it save 8 and now there's
19:54lots of stuff we can do here first
19:57perhaps we want to add playlist tags
19:59this is really great for reporting
20:03purposes but also for discoverability
20:06but what a lot of people use these for
20:08is to keep track of what they're
20:10pitching to certain clients so maybe you
20:13want to create a tag for Netflix and
20:14just keep on hand everything you pitch
20:16to them you can also put some keywords
20:18or descriptors from the brief that
20:21you're pitching in response to and then
20:25playlist visibility you can choose if
20:27your teammates will have theirs ability
20:31to display this or if you only want to
20:32keep it for yourself you can add the
20:36playlist to a channel which is how
20:37you're gonna file it away since I'm
20:42going to say this is a pitch yeah go for
20:44it I'm sorry it's really fast
20:46there's just a question about is there a
20:48way to include a brief with a playlist
20:50so that as you're following the
20:53breadcrumb trail you'll know exactly
20:54what the brief for the previous playlist
20:56was so the best thing would be just to
20:59add some basic notes specific to that
21:02brief in the playlist tags some people
21:05actually caught the entire briefs into
21:08the playlist tags and it's just one mega
21:10tag which I you know I don't know what a
21:15figured out works
21:17yeah but I just do like it might look
21:20three but it should work yeah but just
21:24notice like you can we're going to show
21:26you later how to track people
21:27specifically but adding an entire
21:30company as Katrina has then a playlist
21:33taggers is also really helpful around
21:35that and connecting a brief to a company
21:42ok
21:43back to any
21:45channels um I don't remember if we cover
21:49this in the 101 training but a pitch log
21:53as a channel is incredibly helpful so
21:58you can keep uh Tim's bathing's making
22:00an appearance I hear her no I like a
22:06pitch longer is really great to just
22:08have a place where you're funneling all
22:11the pictures you're doing each month for
22:14multiple reasons one you can pull
22:16reports on it if that's something that
22:19your company does or is helpful for you
22:21it also just gives you more transparency
22:23and maybe helps you identify some gaps
22:25if you're like oh we haven't really been
22:26pitching to new trailer houses lately
22:28maybe we need to nurture some of those
22:30relationships so a good landing place to
22:33have definitely add that to your
22:35channels otherwise if this was like an
22:38artist specific I could playlist I could
22:41save it to my fiancee let's say channel
22:44otherwise it's going to save to browse
22:46so you'll have it to search later on
22:51sorry
22:54that's great
22:56one question was just about customizing
22:59the track order you just drag and drop
23:02when you're building the playlist to put
23:04them in whatever order you like
23:06you just drag them around and also there
23:09are preset ordering options like title a
23:13disease artists data's easy yeah track
23:18numbers if it's an album those are all
23:20on the little menu to the right of save
23:24when you're on the playlist so that's
23:26the track ordering options beer so
23:29hopefully that answers your question
23:30about customizing track order and then
23:35there's a question about solving
23:36sections independently from John you can
23:39drag your sections around but you can't
23:41have the same song in multiple sections
23:45in the same playlist so at one song can
23:49only ever be in one section because when
23:51you try and add it again it would just
23:53move the song to wherever you moved it
23:56so that's just a couple
23:58quick things cool back to you okay
24:04client version tick this box if this is
24:09a playlist you're sending out to a
24:12client nothing changes about the
24:14playlist it's just an internal flag for
24:16you your teammates to know that has been
24:19delivered this is also super super
24:21helpful for pulling reports on and
24:25reports as exciting as those are they
24:28will be covered in advanced training
24:30part two so if you want to do a deep
24:33dive into that come to the next training
24:36you can set your playlist to be
24:39streaming only if you do not want to
24:41enable downloads maybe of unreleased
24:43music kind of along the same lines of
24:46limiting certain access we'll get to in
24:49a moment but you can also password
24:51protect and set links to expire on a
24:53certain time and you can show the lyrics
24:57of its in the metadata this I have set
25:01up as a default to always have the
25:04lyrics visible on the playlist page if
25:07you don't want to tick this box every
25:09time you're sending in a playlist just
25:10hit us up and we can make this a default
25:12for you as well
25:16message so this is an area that appears
25:19at the top of the playlist page um you
25:22can highlight specific tracks that you
25:25want someone to make note of you can
25:28essentially create apks on a disco as
25:30well so this could be a spot for an
25:32artist bio and some press information
25:34and spotify links and social links all
25:37of that Bureau here there was a question
25:39about can you add a youtube link to a
25:42playlist I'm using so you don't have to
25:45edit here is a link in the message
25:49you can't just edit as a track or within
25:52the players you can't upload videos
25:56though to end photos any kind of file
25:59and put it in your playlist but you'd
26:00actually need the file yep okay metadata
26:07we're not getting into but I just want
26:09to throw this as a teaser that I think
26:11this is one of the most underrated
26:13features in Disco that's an incredibly
26:16helpful and we're going to cover it an
26:18advanced training part too okay formats
26:23the way formats work in Disco is if
26:26you've uploaded a high-res into disco
26:30whether that be a wave or an AI F will
26:33automatically make an mp3 which is great
26:35so you have both options you can send a
26:38client a note on the mp3s the default is
26:42160 if you want it to take for each one
26:44you fit us up we can make that happen
26:48so what this area in the saved playlist
26:52is allowing you to do is one if you only
26:57want to send mp3's that's where you
27:00would select this tick box send only
27:03optimized formats they will not get
27:05labor it is now if you select this tick
27:11box include original formats in main
27:14playlist download that means the default
27:17download will be the high-res
27:20it'll be the way for the AF if you don't
27:23have either of these ticked then the
27:26default download will be mp3 but they
27:29still have the option to access the
27:32high-res formats
27:35this gets confusing I hope that made
27:37sense if you have any questions about it
27:40let us know but also show you what that
27:41looks like on the playlist page in a
27:43moment
27:47themes this is where you can jazz up
27:50your playlist customize it make it
27:53personalized you can just upload any
27:55image you want I'm going to use this
27:58promo photo because I like it
28:01but if you wanted to create a new theme
28:03just drag and drop here
28:06you
28:11well my playlist is being saved in these
28:15channels I have it take to the client
28:17version I'm gonna have the lyrics
28:18visible added a message it's ready to
28:21share so I hit save playlist
28:26and then we covered this in the 101
28:28training but this is the kind of main
28:31link that you would share you can copy
28:34it to your clipboard by just selecting
28:36these squares here and just pasting it
28:38somewhere and then to preview it is this
28:42arrow here
28:48so here's our playlist page with our
28:51various sections and I can just select
28:53those and drop down there's a wave form
28:56in the middle people can jump through
28:59this is not default I have this set up
29:03on my demo account because some people
29:05do want to have the metadata hover
29:08available on their playlist pages if
29:10this is you just let us know we can make
29:15this happen as well
29:17lyrics here and then these better not
29:24will be okay here we go
29:25so um default download is mp3 but if I
29:29drop down here I'm able to choose if I
29:31want the a or the wave and then if I
29:36download so download everything will be
29:38all mp3's but your recipients can also
29:40go into more formats and options and
29:43then if they can choose here which ones
29:45they want from each so I want the wave
29:47from this the mp3 from this the a miss
29:50and download or hit save to disco which
29:55means no one has to download everything
29:57music just goes into your library I'm
30:02quick to do so really fast just to add
30:08someone asked if I want to see my
30:11playlist is streaming only to some
30:13people and downloadable to others that
30:16isn't possible you'd make two playlists
30:19one streaming only one downloadable and
30:21you just have to copy it and someone
30:24else are we going to cover how to track
30:26individual people streams and access we
30:28are going to cover that oh yeah that's
30:30coming next someone also asked about can
30:34songs comments we changed on a playlist
30:38by playlist basis no they can't but
30:43we're going to cover another thing about
30:45metadata on a playlist by playlists
30:47basis and our next webinar so come back
30:51for more on that later
30:56cool and then just to highlight at the
31:00beginning of the webinar we talked about
31:02adding your contact details to the
31:04bottom of a playlist it looks like this
31:06down here okay let's get into the fun
31:14stuff which is seeing who is listening
31:16to our music
31:17what are they downloading did they open
31:19our playlists so the way to get those
31:22stats which mind you you can still get
31:25stats if you just send this link but
31:28it's not gonna be specific to a client
31:30you'll just get like very broad stats
31:32like 50 downloads and 30 streams but I
31:35want to know what my clients are listen
31:37to what so you go on to share this
31:39playlist there's two options one you can
31:43email the playlist straight out of disco
31:45just type in their email address add a
31:50message and some it's good thing with
31:58this is you can't really customize the
32:01way the playlist looks it's like our
32:03default template but it's great because
32:06the tracklist is gonna go with it and
32:09you'll still and you'll get the
32:11automatic stats on what Tim is listen to
32:13from this playlist and I can put
32:15multiple emails in here and then it's
32:17going to BCC all of them and
32:19automatically connect the playlist with
32:24their email so you click the stats
32:26that's one way the other thing you can
32:29do here is send to another disco inbox
32:32so if I wanted to send this to level two
32:34I can just put their name in here and
32:37send them a message straight into their
32:40disco inbox they will receive an email
32:43notification that there's new music you
32:45will receive an email notification that
32:47was delivered nine times out of ten
32:51you'll probably use assign a URL to a
32:54contact same thing put in their email
32:58address
33:00assign the URL and then a unique link is
33:03going to be generated that's connected
33:05to Tim's email and so this is the link I
33:07would send in an email to him responding
33:09to a thread that's already going there
33:14it is grab this here copy it to my
33:16clipboard or I can copy it from down
33:18here so we'll where do we see stats
33:24there's two places one we can look on
33:27the playlist level
33:30so I can go to my playlist here go to
33:33this menu click on stats and then tada
33:38these are all the people that I've sent
33:40this playlist to and then I can sort up
33:42here to see who streamed it the most who
33:45downloaded the most tracks etc I can
33:49also hover over the numbers to see which
33:53songs they engaged with
33:56so it's one way the second way is
33:59anytime you assign your URLs or send
34:04applets directly out of disco it's going
34:07to put those folks in this contacts
34:09database
34:12so I can open up a contact here add some
34:16basic information email company phone
34:18location I can add tags so this one I
34:22have is advertising in New York their
34:24supervisor and their VIP this is great
34:28for when you're filtering lists for like
34:31a newsletter or a blast which are email
34:34creator we are going to get into in the
34:36next training as well I can also leave
34:39some notes dating my boss as ex oh that
34:44Tim you definitely added that um mailing
34:47lists which again is for you know
34:49creator or you can send playlist to
34:53mailing lists as well but we're gonna
34:55get into that another date this is my
34:58favorite part here activity so this
35:01shows me every playlist I've ever sent
35:03this contact with the stats here you use
35:08downloads by playlist track downloads or
35:11streams and if there were sense you
35:14would hover over those numbers to
35:16actually see which songs were streamed
35:17or downloaded I made a quick question
35:19here that's worth answering to everybody
35:22how do you copy a whole playlist you
35:25want to show you them to copy an entire
35:29playlist you just grab it and drag it
35:32over to the playlist creator that
35:35creates a copy if you needed to edit an
35:38existing playlist use the pencil icon
35:41which will then drag it over to the
35:42playlist creator as well just note that
35:45when you are copying it it doesn't copy
35:47the sections over and it doesn't copy
35:49the settings so the themes and the and
35:52the message and all that stuff is not
35:54copied that is something that we have a
35:57request in for there was a question
36:01about getting a fanned wave versions of
36:03the same song that's on the plus plan we
36:07we need to do maybe a webinar about our
36:09plans because we are switching a new
36:12plan set which are broken out by
36:15features and so some of them have custom
36:19fields that a wave converter and things
36:24like that
36:25so it might be easiest just to ask
36:27support for the breakdown of our new
36:29plan features and maybe we can post it
36:33somewhere but that's coming in very soon
36:36yeah yeah but yeah there is the option
36:39to convert a wave to an AAF and vice
36:42versa and discovery um like to mention
36:46if you're on the plan that has that
36:49option but I just want to note with that
36:52so this check here I know I have a wave
36:55and and and for a but I know that I have
36:59the AI f converter in here but it's not
37:02going to show when I look at the
37:03format's available because we don't
37:05convert it until a download happens so
37:09if you want to download the AIF you can
37:12just go into download track and there it
37:14is same on the playlist side for the
37:18client the H is there we will take the
37:23metadata from the mp3 and apply it to
37:26the AI f as well automatically little
37:30digression there okay let's go back into
37:34some share options um copy URL so this
37:41public playlist link is after you save a
37:43playlist and that link is generated this
37:45is that link if you needed to grab it
37:47again the internal playlist URL is if
37:51you're collaborating with a teammate and
37:53if you send them this it'll open the
37:55playlist in their disco so it's easier
37:58for them to edit as opposed to sending
38:00them the playlist page which doesn't do
38:02that much good and then indirect
38:04download self-explanatory there you can
38:08copy the tracklist
38:09either by just highlighting everything
38:11copying or just copy the tracklist
38:15search your clipboard and then paste
38:16that wherever you wish you can embed a
38:21playlist on your website blog etc you
38:25can just disable downloads if you want
38:26and you can customize this a little bit
38:28if you are with HTML you can do loads of
38:32stuff with this as well security I
38:35mentioned this earlier where you can
38:37password protect a link
38:38or set a link to expire on a certain day
38:43just remember to send the password to
38:47your recipient we will automatically do
38:48that for you can I jump in real fast
38:55please so there's a question about does
39:01the sound file we upload to disco need
39:03to have metadata already in it does that
39:05metadata copy in the disco would you
39:08recommend uploading files without
39:09metadata then using just go to add
39:11everything you can do literally any of
39:14the above if it's an mp3 or an eighth
39:16and it has metadata on it just go reads
39:19that metadata and you can edit it and
39:22just go if you upload a wave it won't
39:24have any metadata just go we'll make an
39:27mp3 and you can then add metadata to
39:30that mp3 and disco so metadata transfers
39:35in and out of disco and can be edited
39:37there there's quite a few questions
39:39about email lists group or group email
39:42lists we're covering them and mixed
39:43webinar but you can see on the left and
39:47the tools of it there is a mailing lists
39:49area where you can upload mailing lists
39:52but we will do that in the next webinar
39:55yep so let's talk about the best ways to
40:02collaborate in disco I feel like this
40:04it's asked constantly so Tim why don't
40:08you kind of talk about that a little bit
40:10if you don't mind yeah sure so I touched
40:12on that slightly earlier on the origins
40:15of disco where for the purpose of
40:17collaborating as a team and just on that
40:19note someone asked about whether team
40:21members should use the same log or not
40:23or have their own logins absolutely they
40:26don't have their own login it's way
40:28better for collaboration it's definitely
40:30important for security and you can
40:33invite people at any time in the top
40:35right corner under the little avatar
40:37just his invite team they get an email
40:40they create their login and you're all
40:43have access then you can see on this my
40:45team tab and settings those are the
40:47people on your team you
40:50if you're an admin you can make other
40:52people edmonds and actually while you're
40:56all here please make sure that someone
40:59important at your company like the owner
41:01or you know a high up manager is an
41:04admin on this because sometimes
41:06employees create the Disco account and
41:08they're the admin and then they leave
41:10the company and then it's we have to go
41:12through this whole process to verify the
41:16owner of the actual company so anyway
41:18that's just a little aside collaboration
41:21you have a team the best way to
41:24collaborate is that you make your own
41:26playlists and see here where Katrina is
41:30there's three BMW playlists I like using
41:33the term whip whip one for the work in
41:36progress one work two for the second
41:38round or you can just say round one
41:40round two so you know your team has
41:43created these playlists in someone
41:45clicks on them and goes through to
41:48choose the best songs will either choose
41:50the best songs or just take all of them
41:53and make one master list which is what
41:55Katrina's doing sometimes not every song
41:58is perfect but just the cause not every
42:03song is perfect and that playlist it
42:05doesn't mean that that song isn't going
42:08to be great for another search in the
42:10future and that is why it's better to
42:14have each person create their own
42:16playlist because they spent time doing
42:19it and that time should be kept and
42:23reused again in the future
42:25whereas if you all just always sorry no
42:29I'm just gonna say the reason we suggest
42:33this is because you can't live
42:35collaborate on playlists if your it will
42:39override what's already there so this is
42:41really the best way to do it until we
42:43build an easier way to collaborate on
42:46the fly and just go yeah that's
42:51definitely a large part of it and also
42:54the fact that if everyone put together
42:57ten songs each and there was one big
43:00playlist and then you just edited it and
43:02deleted 20 songs
43:04of it so I instead of the word delete I
43:06will use this long the word remove don't
43:11delete the songs from playlist because
43:12they were delete from everywhere and
43:14disco yes he removed 20 songs that
43:18someone spent times thinking was good
43:21and bed is worth retaining for the
43:23future absolutely yeah so keep that in
43:26mind so now that you have created your
43:29final list w this is when we're gonna go
43:37and hit that client the version this is
43:41really the use for it is to tell
43:43everyone on your team this was the final
43:45version of the search that has gone off
43:48to the client and those other ones which
43:50are whoops are just creative ideas
43:58is probably the best okay Katrina we
44:00going into channels you know not today
44:05but if someone has a quick question
44:06about it we can talk about it it was
44:09just one really first question about the
44:10difference between adding songs and
44:12playlists to channels the most the most
44:16you can add songs and playlists to
44:19channels that is totally fine the main
44:22reason we recommend keeping songs in
44:25playlists is because of the breadcrumb
44:28trail if Katrina clicks on one of these
44:30playlists and opens it up and then
44:33clicks on a song so you can see all the
44:36playlists that that song is in 71
44:51playlists if it was in 71 channels or 71
44:56folders inside of channels we would have
44:59no idea because it's just not linked up
45:02in their way so it's just best to put
45:05songs in playlists because playlists are
45:08folders they are the most basic folder
45:10and disco and that's the first point of
45:13organization and then the playlist full
45:16of tracks is organized into channels
45:19that being said you can put tracks in
45:21channels and channel folders if you want
45:24[Music]
45:26really quickly on that note some people
45:31start off and they build they actually
45:34build what they think is a playlist as a
45:37channel and then they share that because
45:40you can share channels and the folders
45:42within channels but it doesn't have
45:45things isn't tracked it's unclear
45:50so playlists so what you want to share
45:54with people when you are pitching that
45:56is the primary purpose of a playlist
45:58other than organizing and if you know
46:02sorry the point of sharing a channel so
46:06you can send the bulk of your catalog to
46:09someone you
46:11wait a couple more weeks because we are
46:13building client libraries which would
46:15allow supervisors directors creative
46:19teams to search through your own disco
46:22library with these specific tags that we
46:26have and create their own playlist safe
46:28to disco you can get stats on all of
46:31that as well
46:33so you can look forward to that very
46:35soon um I want to make sure we have
46:38enough time to talk to Jonathan and
46:40we've already we're already a little bit
46:42past it so I think I'll save a couple
46:47things I wanted to talk about today and
46:48just move it to the part 2 training
46:51which is really like quickly it's just
46:53about how to like replace audio merge
46:55tracks deleting playlists versus tracks
46:58I think we can cover that in the next
47:02training I didn't want to talk about
47:04auto tags a little more but just quickly
47:07we've touched on how these native tags
47:09work and I mentioned that everything in
47:12this disco has been tagged by Rai so we
47:16trained it to listen to music and detect
47:20John revoke Cole's instrument mood and
47:22feel tempo and again they're all
47:24commonly used tags and sync and the cool
47:29thing about the tags as well is you can
47:31add to them if I needed to add like bass
47:34to this that's gonna send the message
47:37back to the AI to learn I mean bass is
47:40kind of a weak example but if as I get
47:44didgeridoo or something um it'll send a
47:47note back to the AI to learn that sound
47:49and then it's going to retag not just
47:52your just the library but this is from
47:56all disco libraries of folks adding new
47:58tags and then yeah just like real
48:01essence and tags where it sees fit so
48:04it's not static it's ever-evolving the
48:07other great part about this that's
48:09coming very soon is a reference search
48:11so if the supervisor sends you a link
48:15that they want something that's like
48:17dual leap by let's say you can grab that
48:19reference song from YouTube or
48:21SoundCloud just put that link straight
48:24into the sort
48:25up top we tag that song and then we pull
48:29through all the similarly tagged tracks
48:31in your library and bubble up those
48:33selects for you so your turnaround time
48:36with that is just really incredible
48:38super fast so if anyone's interested in
48:41Auto tags please reach out to us you can
48:43run a little sample site or give you our
48:45demo account to see the caliber tags for
48:48yourself oh yeah
48:50I think I'll just leave it at that for
48:52now yes I just wanna make one one real
48:55fast point just about Sodor team members
48:59have to have a disco account or can I
49:01invite members to share basically
49:04there's one disco account which is your
49:06URL and your invite team members all to
49:08that so we refer to account as the
49:11entire disco and a logon or a user as a
49:15team person that joins that if they had
49:17a totally separate disco the interaction
49:20would be very very different
49:22let's get Jonathan up on here let's get
49:25to it okay Jonathan hiding in the
49:34background are you I'm good let me just
49:37sit in autotags too by the way okay
49:40great we asked you I just want to make
49:43sure I sign up for that yeah yeah so
49:47Jonathan your music supervisor in New
49:49York you primarily work on advertising
49:54campaigns that have done some more
49:56documentaries and films lately you need
49:59to show a little bit about what you're
50:01working on and kind of how work is as a
50:04supervisor these days yeah definitely
50:08and thanks for having me I I am
50:12fortunate that I'm working and I've sort
50:15of set myself up in a way that I know
50:18how to even when I'm not working with
50:22clients I know how to sort of make
50:24effective use of my time so there's a
50:27lot of time within the day where it's
50:29not directly working on like a creative
50:31search or a license deal you know
50:34preparing myself for future projects or
50:37business development sort of
50:39firts or just honestly like going out
50:42into the world like or on the web and
50:45finding creative inspiration and
50:46thinking about it and just kind of just
50:49expanding the way I think in the way I
50:51you know prepare for projects so I am I
50:56am fortunate that I am working on a
50:57documentary project right now that I
51:00know a lot of there's a lot of product
51:02production constraints right now
51:05unfortunately for this one it's a lot of
51:08archival materials are going to be
51:10utilized because it's a retrospective
51:12about a prominent sort of founder of a
51:18company about that that release sells
51:22snowboards so yeah that's that's much
51:25like I can sort of say at this moment
51:26but no it's a cool project and that's
51:31that's certainly keeping me busy and
51:32then you know I I did recently get my
51:35first Cove in nineteen response ad so
51:38you know I've been kind of assessing you
51:42know what's happening within the
51:43advertising industry cuz a lot of my
51:45contacts in my network is largely within
51:49that sort of commercial production world
51:50and you know there's not as much work
51:54I'll just be completely honest you know
51:56that's really the feedback that I'm
51:58getting but you know I think that's
52:01going to sort of shift and there's going
52:03to be a little bit more of a ramp up now
52:06that we're sort of kind of getting sort
52:09of settled in a little bit you know it
52:12took some time for some of these big
52:14companies and corporations to sort of
52:16shift their strategy move move their
52:19offices home and I think that they're
52:21now working more closely with their
52:23agencies trying to get answers to
52:25questions they have about how to sort of
52:27position themselves in the market and
52:28you know commercials are starting to be
52:31made or have been made and more are
52:34being made and I think music definitely
52:36has a place in this new sort of market
52:40for commercial production I think you
52:43know music is one of those things that
52:45is almost certain you know a the song a
52:49pre-existing recording exists all
52:52so you know kind of what you're getting
52:54and music is going to add a lot to low
52:59production value commercials you know
53:02product projects so I definitely don't
53:06shy away at that now is not the time
53:08she's sort of like step back it's just
53:12it's the time to sort of step in you
53:14know and and make yourself sort of
53:16essential position yourself as best as
53:19you can with your music and with your
53:21artists and you think about what the
53:23needs are of the advertising industry or
53:24the film industry you know whatever is
53:29relatable to you in this moment is also
53:31going to be relatable to an advertiser
53:34so think about those types of themes and
53:37those songs that sort of speak to what
53:39we're all kind of going through yeah so
53:42why are some of those like licensing
53:45trends or like trends and I feel weird
53:48saying trends but like what is the music
53:50everybody wants and are asking for right
53:53now yeah I don't know I guess it's the
53:57obvious I think some of it I think it's
54:01obvious I mean you know I just went
54:04through a couple rounds of searching and
54:06there were some songs that instead of I
54:09don't think everything has to be so
54:11overly emotional like I think some
54:14people want to sort of convey joy but in
54:18sort of like an honest way you know not
54:21you know anything to sort of slick and
54:23sort of aspirational like more just like
54:26you know how can we find sort of simple
54:28pleasures in connecting with friends or
54:31in family on zoom' you know a lot of a
54:33lot of productions are happening on
54:36FaceTime and zoom and using technology
54:39that wasn't previously utilized so you
54:42know just kind of think about how you
54:44use those products right and you know in
54:46all likelihood those you're gonna see
54:49more and more projects you know very
54:53sort of simply made focused on how we're
54:56all kind of adapting to the situation
54:57and you know thinking about things
55:01differently yeah definitely have you
55:06think the music community is going to
55:10change from all this okay you even read
55:12the other day that they're anticipating
55:14we won't be able to have any large
55:17gathering so like no concerts no shows
55:19for a year and a half like any insight
55:24on your end on how you think that's
55:26gonna evolve I have been thinking a lot
55:29more about that and also just you know
55:33now that I'm kind of going through the
55:34motions of like getting costs for tracks
55:37and licensing also just understanding
55:40how that that sort of path to it to an
55:44artists approval is happening now is
55:46very different than before you know
55:48artists are at home they'd be a little
55:50bit more accessible than they were
55:51before so people are working and
55:55hustling really quickly to turn around
55:58stuff on tight timelines in terms of
56:01like the touring industry I mean it's
56:03it's it's sad if what were up against
56:07with this pandemic and how that is
56:10affecting touring and performing live I
56:13mean I haven't really spent too much
56:15time in streaming the sort of at home
56:17concerts but it's something that you
56:19know I should sort of look a little bit
56:21more into and because that might even
56:24sort of present opportunities for
56:25artists and connecting sort of
56:27partnerships between artists and brands
56:29and we've been starting to see like
56:32companies like Verizon and Chipotle and
56:35make use of those partnerships I think
56:41that there's gonna be a lot of
56:42songwriting happening during this time
56:43you know I think in a way it sort of
56:46slows people down the you know there's
56:50not that same push from the labels and
56:54you know to get out and tour and to
56:56promote albums you know that I think
57:00that there'll be more time to write and
57:02more time to connect with fans through
57:05social media yeah I think so too I've
57:08already seen a lot of my friends that
57:09are like collaborating more on songs and
57:11just like sending tracks back and forth
57:13and that's gonna be exciting to see what
57:14people create I mean think about it
57:19every artist songwriter kind of finds
57:24different time to write and it seems
57:27like now is a time when everyone is
57:30maybe thinking about writing and it'll
57:33be it'll be cool just I mean like a
57:36silver lining and all this it's just to
57:38see all this sort of creative output
57:41that you know comes out of this yeah I
57:45think that's really interesting actually
57:46the way that people are redirecting all
57:49of the energy from you know the outward
57:54life which is now not possible and you
57:58just like can't you can just sit still
58:01and do nothing so it comes out in all
58:02these different ways and heaps of people
58:05I think are really getting creative yeah
58:08I think it's exciting and it's probably
58:11important to note that there might you
58:13know be a lot more attention on film and
58:16television licensing you know working
58:18with existing catalogues or writing to
58:23add to your catalog you know and you
58:27know for artists or labels or companies
58:29that haven't been able to prioritize
58:32licensing I think maybe now is a good
58:34time
58:36yeah definitely um switching gears a
58:41little bit into more of your kind of
58:44workflow and preferences um do you have
58:49any preferred ways in which people can
58:51reach out to you and send you music and
58:54then like on the opposite end of that
58:57are there certain ways that make it more
59:00challenging for you and any ways to
59:03kindly let people know that produces
59:05more work for you yeah I would sort of
59:09just off by saying it's not a easy
59:12question to answer and like I'm I'm sort
59:17of constantly sort of like refining my
59:19life process and ways to work more
59:21effectively I operate my supervision
59:25company alone I have people sort of in
59:28sort of support roles but but nobody
59:32that is like as hands-on with the
59:34creative and the music and the
59:36organization and the tagging and play
59:38listing as I am I mean that's I sort of
59:41own that right now and you know if I
59:43could duplicate myself or scale the
59:46business I would put more infrastructure
59:48in place because it's it's so critical
59:50for time management purposes to do you
59:55know there's so many features within
59:57disco that I find a lot of valuing and
1:00:00then others that you've shown me and
1:00:01that I know are like coming in the near
1:00:03future that would be even better you
1:00:07know - but it's just it's so much so
1:00:09much time goes into it getting kind of
1:00:12as granular as you guys allow it to be
1:00:16but the things that I really focus on
1:00:19are yeah
1:00:23so I focus on you know it's really about
1:00:26like kind of play listing and then for
1:00:30client projects but then also creating
1:00:33sort of more thematic playlists right so
1:00:36that if I'm tasked with turning around a
1:00:40creative search in a very short amount
1:00:41of time then I am able to find you know
1:00:45my my research more quickly and going
1:00:49into client playlist
1:00:51using the breadcrumb trail it's a really
1:00:53good way for me to just find stuff or
1:00:55even it's not necessarily ideas that I'm
1:00:58going to sort of capture for the search
1:01:00but it sparks ideas and gives me sort of
1:01:05helps me sort of redirect my thinking
1:01:07and even just sort of like one song
1:01:10could you know help me think okay I need
1:01:13to go back through these other playlists
1:01:15or these sort of themes would be
1:01:17applicable for the music search
1:01:23yeah awesome how do you deal with the I
1:01:27guess the volume of incoming music to
1:01:31you you must you obviously receive and
1:01:34many meaning different ways and formats
1:01:37what's there a hierarchy to how you
1:01:40actually kind of deal with this
1:01:42I guess this stuff coming for briefs you
1:01:44seemed out and just the general blasts
1:01:46yeah yeah I really love the inbox
1:01:50feature and being able to funnel that
1:01:55music directly to an inbox so for client
1:01:59projects if I'm brief why is it helpful
1:02:02really fast that you can funnel it to
1:02:05one a book how does it help it's just
1:02:08more streamlined and and so on so many
1:02:11of the features that then just go save
1:02:13time and they in it and it's just like
1:02:18all those like little split seconds or
1:02:20seconds that you know take you time to
1:02:23download and upload and it just it all
1:02:27adds up I mean you it's so important to
1:02:31streamline as much as possible and to
1:02:33think about how you can streamline on
1:02:36your end but also what would be really
1:02:38helpful on on your receiving your you
1:02:41know whoever you're you're pitching to
1:02:43or if it's your client or you know music
1:02:47supervision partner or somebody like
1:02:48that it's so important one thing that
1:02:51actually I learned only recently was
1:02:54that I could share channels and what
1:02:58that does for me is if I'm working on a
1:03:01project with kind of a bigger scope and
1:03:03let's say I know for this documentary a
1:03:06project that I'm working on I'm gonna be
1:03:08sending quite a lot of playlists over a
1:03:10long period of time you know if I'm only
1:03:13sending those individually to the
1:03:17director or the editor they it's very
1:03:21quick it could very easily get lost
1:03:24stuff could get lost and you'd have to
1:03:27then go and reference those individuals
1:03:30sort of emails and links and I think
1:03:33it's so important to send those but to
1:03:35also give them
1:03:36option of like a link to the channel
1:03:38where everything is already like lids in
1:03:41place and it's sort of in a sort of a
1:03:43Hosting page makes such a huge
1:03:45difference with you know teams that
1:03:48aren't maybe as organized as you know we
1:03:51are so it's important to think about who
1:03:53your work who you're collaborating with
1:03:55and how you can make them organized as
1:03:58well awesome
1:04:00I actually haven't thought much about
1:04:01the yeah supervisors are sharing the
1:04:03entire channel for the project it's
1:04:05obviously oh yeah okay cool thank you
1:04:08it's I never even thought about it now
1:04:12know that I just said to the director
1:04:15please bookmark this link and just like
1:04:18going forward I'll send you playlist but
1:04:21also you know I I don't know what your
1:04:24workflow is like you know I don't know
1:04:26if when I send playlist you're you know
1:04:28you're gonna like you know click
1:04:30immediately and and go through it as
1:04:33fast as you know I would hope for him to
1:04:36do that you know so it's just nice that
1:04:39if he if that link gets buried in other
1:04:42emails that he could always go back to
1:04:44that bookmark channel that's a really
1:04:50good chat I don't I've never thought
1:04:53about the supervision standpoint either
1:04:57so well that kind of answers my next
1:05:00question but maybe there's more but like
1:05:02are there any other creative ways as a
1:05:04supervisor you've developed and you
1:05:08using disco in like ways that maybe you
1:05:11didn't think we're there before or the
1:05:15channel thing is it but is there
1:05:16anything else that comes we sort of
1:05:19diverged a little bit between you are
1:05:21receiving how you're dealing with the
1:05:23incoming old incoming music which i
1:05:25think is probably going we're going
1:05:27between them
1:05:28sure yeah I think another thing that I
1:05:30have put in a bit more time into is the
1:05:34contacts mailing list and trying to
1:05:39organize my contacts based on
1:05:42relationship and what I what sort of
1:05:46information I know about their artists
1:05:48in their catalogue
1:05:49so that when I'm briefing out I'm gonna
1:05:53already have these email groups sort of
1:05:55organized though creating a list based
1:06:01on you know are these companies that are
1:06:03available you know at all budget ranges
1:06:06are these companies that only want to
1:06:09get you know received briefs for you
1:06:12know 100k or above you know do they have
1:06:17how much sort of archival sort of that
1:06:20catalog do they have like can I rely on
1:06:22these companies for music from 50 60 70
1:06:26s or are they is it all front line you
1:06:29know very kind of current modern music
1:06:32so just sort of thinking about what
1:06:36types of briefs I get and how I can sort
1:06:39of streamline not just you know music
1:06:42that I'm receiving but even a stuff for
1:06:44that how do I get that brief out to the
1:06:47right people how do you to you know say
1:06:52I'm a write told ER and I've got I think
1:06:55I've got all the music all the perfect
1:06:57music in the world you know what's the
1:07:00best way to help you and outlining
1:07:03really what my strengths
1:07:07you know when I'm presenting music to
1:07:09you're trying to reach out and build a
1:07:11relationship are there some sort of
1:07:13really key things you know like just got
1:07:16that so I really know what this is about
1:07:18how would you recommend we do that when
1:07:22when sort of describing the catalogue or
1:07:24yeah yeah yeah yeah I think some of the
1:07:29things I just sort of mentioned on you
1:07:31know do you have current music to you
1:07:33what sort of I think a good introduction
1:07:37to a catalogue is just sort of knowing
1:07:39what you think is sort of the strongest
1:07:42aspect of it or like I think don't say
1:07:46that you can serve every brief even
1:07:49though you can it's like what how what
1:07:53is like the one artist or a few artists
1:07:55that you feel like I should kind of
1:07:57focus my attention on if I'm not
1:07:59familiar with who you are or the
1:08:03catalog that you represent like just
1:08:06make it really sort of easy and simple
1:08:08for a music supervisor to find like a
1:08:13way in you know as we're inundated with
1:08:17with emails and you know it's really
1:08:21hard and just I didn't answer your
1:08:23question earlier but the best way to
1:08:25sort of contact me is if you if we don't
1:08:29know each other it's really a referral
1:08:31from somebody that we know and comment
1:08:33or a licensing company I can pretty much
1:08:37guarantee you that 99% of the time if
1:08:40it's a cold email I'm not going to be
1:08:42able to reference it or read through it
1:08:44or even click through it and there's
1:08:46always some you know trust plays a big
1:08:49part in this business and you know I've
1:08:53said I've say this a lot that it's like
1:08:55you kind of have to be a sort of
1:08:56perfectionist because and you have to
1:09:00sort of know who else are sort of like
1:09:02kind of working on that sort of level
1:09:04because we're dealing with music
1:09:06copyright and we're dealing with things
1:09:07you know projects that move really
1:09:09quickly only need to make sure that
1:09:11thing's always accurate and that the
1:09:13people that we work with and collaborate
1:09:15with like you trusted how do people
1:09:19prove trustworthiness to you I think it
1:09:23just it develops over time it's
1:09:25something that takes time and you just I
1:09:28guess have to sort of just be patient
1:09:30and like we were saying before just
1:09:34sending a sampler and just identifying
1:09:38really this is the best stuff for the
1:09:40stuff that I'm most excited at our this
1:09:42is these are the artists that are
1:09:43getting you know maybe they haven't you
1:09:48know maybe they're not playing big rooms
1:09:50you know thousand person venues one you
1:09:53know like touring was was a thing but
1:09:57you know they're getting reviewed on
1:09:58pitchfork or they're getting reviewed
1:10:00you know so you know music critics are
1:10:02taking notice or give me something that
1:10:06like goes beyond the music like
1:10:08something about their story or how they
1:10:12are relevant to this sort of cultural
1:10:16moment
1:10:16you know yes I'm sort of Huck awesome
1:10:21yeah
1:10:21do you find that just even opening a
1:10:24song in looking at metadata just talking
1:10:27about trust and how you can tell what
1:10:30can you tell if someone knows what
1:10:31they're doing pretty ugly actually I
1:10:34hadn't thought about that but yeah if if
1:10:36metadata is if people do take the time
1:10:40to fill in that information and it's
1:10:43like really just you know if you see
1:10:47that level of care and organization into
1:10:50it
1:10:50put into it then that's that's a good
1:10:53indication that they've got their
1:10:55together yeah that's what we tell
1:10:59everybody because you know I don't want
1:11:03to sort of knock the the majors but it's
1:11:06usually the Indies that that really put
1:11:10in that time and care and sometimes when
1:11:14you get sent stuff and the majors it's
1:11:16like no album artwork you know no just
1:11:20no information at all and so that's when
1:11:25the sort of Detective hat goes on but
1:11:27you know when any send music it's
1:11:29usually a lot of like they want to make
1:11:31it as like turnkey as possible yeah
1:11:35interesting
1:11:38someone said hashtag not all majors
1:11:46album artwork is so important to me or
1:11:49something I don't know maybe other music
1:11:51surprises would agree and personally I'm
1:11:54not in love with like catalogs that put
1:11:57their own company like logo on tracks
1:12:00like give me the artists is artwork like
1:12:04sometimes like just looking at an
1:12:07artwork gets me interested in the track
1:12:09or like if the artwork had as much if
1:12:14there was as much thoughtfulness like
1:12:16put into the artwork as there is the
1:12:18music then that might give me some sort
1:12:20of key like into what this song sounds
1:12:25like yeah and just to piggyback on that
1:12:29I know their music supervisor
1:12:31chimed in papica and said our work is
1:12:33huge for him as well yeah so all you
1:12:36folks who don't have artwork get to
1:12:39design in it is a funny I was just gonna
1:12:45make a real quick note work just the way
1:12:47the artists a huge amount of time
1:12:50writing music making music recording
1:12:53music and going to town on all of that
1:12:56side and then often the actual
1:12:59presentation at the end of it all is
1:13:01just sort of like oh here you go you
1:13:04know like the only any time on how
1:13:09they're gonna write about themselves and
1:13:11that side which is really like a lot of
1:13:13people very painful and then have no
1:13:15interest in that but I do feel like it's
1:13:18something to really to invest in as an
1:13:20artist because a book is read by its
1:13:25cover you know we're not always gonna
1:13:28fear the music straightaway but if we
1:13:30read something that's really like oh
1:13:32that just sounds like a kind of
1:13:34interesting angle that you've got there
1:13:35you know that really helps no viously
1:13:39yes great
1:13:40yeah just think about the imagery and
1:13:42the colors and you know you don't need
1:13:44to put in a lot of money into it like
1:13:46license a photo you know just something
1:13:50that evokes sort of a feeling in our
1:13:53story that you know is you know similar
1:13:57to the story and an emotion that's in
1:14:00music someone could just write and asked
1:14:06if we could show an example of perfect
1:14:10metadata we have that in a blog post
1:14:13Tim wrote a really good one about
1:14:14metadata um we can link it and the
1:14:19follow up for a recording of this cuz
1:14:21yeah we are happy to help people through
1:14:23how that should look and work um well we
1:14:30went a little over our time but I'm not
1:14:31mad at it because I we enjoyed talking
1:14:33to you um I had another question but I
1:14:36feel like you already answered it I just
1:14:38wanted to know if you have any like
1:14:39favorite feature and disco that like
1:14:42really really is a game changer for you
1:14:45you like it's probably inboxes and
1:14:47breadcrumb trail you talked about that
1:14:48but if there's anything else you feel
1:14:50like sharing with the class let us know
1:14:52it's just very I don't know it's just
1:14:55it's very cohesive and like it's it's
1:14:58not any one feature I think it's kind of
1:15:00everything and the fact that you're not
1:15:03I mean if you know there's just I'm
1:15:07actually like like I said before I'm
1:15:10like only really kind of using the sort
1:15:12of basic features and I know that if I
1:15:14had more time or more people I would I
1:15:18would definitely use more of the
1:15:20features so it's just kind of very
1:15:21cohesive and the fact that you're
1:15:23constantly sort of developing the
1:15:24product and the platform just makes me
1:15:27feel you know that much more sort of
1:15:31attached to it for doing work nice oh
1:15:36yeah the iPhone app is basically sort of
1:15:39out in beta a little bit at the moment
1:15:41so everybody get excited about that
1:15:43because it's also very functional and in
1:15:47your pocket yeah cool back out in the
1:15:52world again it'll be really helpful yeah
1:15:56yeah you know what to answer a question
1:15:58about game changing and it's it's it's
1:16:01the it's having everything stored in the
1:16:03cloud it's that security like of not
1:16:09worrying about a hard drive anymore
1:16:11I know it's been it's been kind of like
1:16:12a while if you're on a hard drive like
1:16:15get off of that like immediately it's so
1:16:19risky - and just the fact that you can
1:16:23invite teams in and access it from like
1:16:26any device and it's backed up and just
1:16:30it's just a beautiful thing
1:16:32yeah yeah efficiency and effectiveness
1:16:41yeah it's just you know music is
1:16:44something that can it's it could be an
1:16:47endless sort of process you know you can
1:16:50spend a lot of time and you really have
1:16:52to sort of think about how you kind of
1:16:55manage that time and use it effectively
1:16:57and I think this is just one
1:16:59saying that you know accomplishes that
1:17:02you know some of it has to sort of come
1:17:05from you too you know like I can't you
1:17:08know put 20 hours into research when I
1:17:10really just requires you know ten you
1:17:12know to see it's got a move on and do
1:17:14other things
1:17:17absolutely awesome cool well thank you
