0:00you're doing cases for some of the most
0:02sophisticated technology companies out
0:03there. I wonder what your thoughts are
0:05on this technological shift towards AI
0:08and what you're seeing it could mean for
0:11you and for the firm.
0:13>> Well, it's pretty amazing. Recently
0:14tried a case where we made heavy use of
0:17AI. We had dumped everything, all the
0:20documents, all the depositions,
0:22all the daily trial testimony. I mean,
0:25you can query the database with natural
0:27language questions like what's the best
0:30evidence that so- and so is lying about
0:32this and you press a button and wow you
0:36get I know and you can get drafts of
0:38things which I think of as as sort of
0:42checklist. It's not a draft that you're
0:44going to file or use but it might throw
0:46up some ideas of things that you haven't
0:48hadn't thought of
0:49>> like good work maybe.
0:52>> Yeah. I mean, I I'm not one of those
0:54people, you know, you read a lot about
0:56how the law firm pyramid is is going to
0:59go away, that you need fewer associates.
1:01I don't really see that. I think
1:02associates will be able to do more
1:05faster, be more productive. I mean, you
1:08know, we're still di graduating
1:10diagnostic radiologists from medical
1:12schools. You know that, right? Even
1:15though we've known for a long time that
1:17the AI is better
1:19>> better at it. But I mean there was an
1:20article in I can't remember if it was
1:22the Wall Street Journal and New York
1:23Times about a month ago that kind of
1:24addressed that. Well, why? And what are
1:26diagnostic radiologists doing and it
1:30turns out that they're more productive
1:31and they're more accurate and they do a
1:33better job. It's they're doing more
1:35cases.
1:37So, so I think in a lot of these things
1:39so some jobs are going to be eliminated.
1:42Other jobs it'll just be it'll give
1:45leverage. People will be able to do more
1:47faster and better job. So, one thought
1:50would be there's a fixed amount of
1:51litigation in the world and if it's
1:54getting done faster, there will just be
1:56fewer hours to be built doing it.
1:59>> What do you think about that?
2:00>> AI is going to discover new cases.
2:03>> Yeah. Oh, yeah.
2:04>> That's my view. I mean, I think
2:07>> there's going to be more litigation
2:08because AI is going to find mismatches,
2:11screwups, fraud, you name it. I mean,
2:14there's already I forget what it's
2:16called. Darrow. Have you heard of this?
2:17Darrow. B A R R O W. Look it up. This is
2:21a service that uses AI to find class
2:24actions.
2:26>> I've seen some of these companies that
2:28are that are automating complaints and
2:32>> it's not just automating complaints,
2:33they're finding
2:34>> finding the problems.
2:35>> They're finding claims. So, I think
2:39there's going to be more litigation.
2:40It'll be resolved faster probably, but
2:42there'll be more litigation. So you
2:44think that the role of lawyers in
2:46drafting documents, drafting court
2:48filings in particular will remain
2:51important but they will use AI to help
2:54them prepare it faster.
2:56>> Is that fair summary?
2:57>> Well, I help them and as sort of a a
2:59check,
3:01>> you know, as an idea prompter.
3:03>> Yeah. I'll sometimes, you know, I'll
3:05I'll ask a claude or chat GPT, I'm
3:08writing something about this. I like I
3:10I'll use it for like an opening
3:12paragraph. Here's here here is something
3:14I'm writing about. I need to get the
3:16reader's attention. Here's the tone I
3:18want. You know, uh I want it to be
3:21enticing. I want to induce the reader to
3:24read. And I I'll tell them this is what
3:26it is. Here's the here's the piece I'm
3:28writing. I want a first paragraph that
3:31has kind and you know, I've done that
3:33and sometimes made very few changes
3:36>> in what it gave me. Other times I just
3:39scrap it. you know, it's just not useful
3:41or there's be a little something, a
3:43phrase I'll use. And how do you think
3:45it's going to change discovery?
3:47>> Well, I mean, you you can process so
3:49much data and query databases with
3:52natural language questions. I think you
3:54can do you can do more faster and and
3:56you'll be able to find things that you
3:59wouldn't be able to find without a lot
4:01of really intensive manual uh you know
4:05human labor.
