0:12of eyewash equipment to minimize
0:14occupational exposure to pathogens if
0:17body fluids contact the eyes
0:20wash your hands or use hand sanitizer
0:24remove contact lenses or glasses before
0:29touching your eyes put on gloves
0:31following the manufacturer's directions
0:33turn on the eye wash unit if it is a
0:37plumbed unit the control valve should
0:40remain on until the unit is manually
0:42shut off the normal reflex is to close
0:45your eyes tightly but to remove all of
0:47the contaminated material you need to
0:50hold your eyelids open with your thumb
0:52and index finger to ensure adequate
0:54rinsing of the entire eye and eyelid
0:57surface avoid aiming the water stream
1:00directly onto the eyeball because it
1:02could cause discomfort or damage flush
1:05your eyes and eyelids for a minimum of
1:0715 minutes rolling your eyes
1:09periodically to ensure complete removal
1:12of the foreign and possibly dangerous
1:14material properly remove your gloves and
1:17dispose of them in a waste container
1:19then wash your hands or use hand
1:22sanitizer again after completion of the
1:25eye wash follow post-exposure follow-up
1:28procedures which may include an exposure
1:30incident form and provider follow-up
