0:33for attending this session
0:34and the start of the series
0:36on one of the greatest topics and the
0:39greatest subjects that anybody could
0:41ever study
0:42and that is
0:43the subject
0:44of allah subhanahu wa
0:46and there is no greater thing to study
0:48there is no greater subject to study
0:50nothing greater we can understand beyond
0:52allah subhana wa
0:55allah says in the quran
1:07so call him using those names
1:10and allah
1:21oh believers be conscious of allah
1:29and everybody should look at what they
1:31have prepared for the day of judgment
1:33and be conscious of allah
1:40allah is all aware of what you do
1:43and then allah begins a few verses later
1:45to describe his beautiful names from
1:47start to end
1:49and so the topic that we are studying is
1:51one of the greatest topics in the quran
1:53and one of the topics most frequently
1:54studied
1:56and if we were to start with a story
1:59let us start with the story of musa
2:01alayhi salah
2:03when musa alayhi salam
2:05at the age of around 40 is given his
2:07mission to be a prophet
2:10and he's given the very difficult
2:11problem of going and standing up to the
2:14tyrant
2:15the dictator of his time firaoun
2:19you can imagine that this man musa
2:21salaam is very scared
2:23because he is standing against not just
2:25a man but an army
2:27and he is one man
2:29and how does allah subhanahu ta'ala
2:31prepare him to stand up to firaoun
2:34when allah ta'ala communicates to moosa
2:36for the first time
2:38and he reveals to musa for the first
2:40time
2:41the first thing allah subhanahu ta'ala
2:43says to him
2:45is that he introduces himself to musa
2:49when musallam sees the burning tree and
2:52he comes close to the tree
2:54musa al-islam
2:56hears the words of allah
2:59as allah says
3:01in nani
3:17you should know
3:18it is me
3:20i am allah
3:22there is nothing you should reach to in
3:24your times of difficulty except me
3:27so
3:28be in service of me
3:30and establish salah to remember me
3:32the first thing the first speech allah
3:35gives to musa is i am allah
3:38and we won't realize the weight of this
3:41statement
3:42until we understand what does allah
3:44really mean this sentence ayam allah was
3:47enough to make musa stand alone in front
3:49of an army
3:51to make musa alayhi islam stand alone in
3:53front of the most the biggest
3:55dictator and the most fearsome man on
3:57the planet the statement i am allah was
4:00enough to motivate him
4:01because he knew who he was doing it for
4:05many of us
4:06our lives we live them on autopilot
4:09like zombies
4:10we wake up in the morning
4:12and we go through our routine and we
4:14sleep at night
4:15and in the day in the busyness and the
4:17hecticness of the day there is not a
4:19moment where we remember what are we
4:21doing it all for
4:23in fact
4:24according to some scholars
4:26the core reason allah made us is to know
4:28him
4:30we all know this
4:40in the quran i only created humankind
4:42and jin kind just to worship me
4:50to worship me meaning i created them so
4:53they can know me
4:56imagine that that allah made us and gave
4:58us minds and eyes and ears
5:01so that we can get to know allah
5:04that is the reason he created these
5:05faculties
5:06and we know so much about so many things
5:08in this world from the trees to the
5:10plants to the bricks
5:12but how much do we know about allah
5:15we should really be ashamed of ourselves
5:17and this is why
5:20when the prophet salallahu alaihi
5:21wasallam asked one of his companions
5:26he asked him what is the greatest ayah
5:28in the quran it's a very difficult
5:30question the quran has so many verses
5:33and they're all great verses how can you
5:35choose one
5:36in fact if i take you to a shop and i
5:38ask you to choose a t-shirt you will
5:40take 30 minutes
5:41but um
5:42asked
5:43choose the greatest verse in the quran
5:46now
5:47and ube nucab says i don't know allah
5:49and his messenger know best
5:50so the prophet salallahu salaam says no
5:53tell me what is the greatest verse in
5:55the quran
5:56and then
5:57says
5:59is it
6:00allah
6:15you have destroyed all of knowledge
6:18you killed him as we say today you
6:20smashed him
6:21you've done a brilliant job
6:24how did he know that this is the
6:25greatest verse in the quran
6:28because this verse describes allah
6:32and it describes allah in the most
6:34complete way
6:36that is why the prophet salallahu salaam
6:38would recite it after every prayer
6:40and before he slept and in the morning
6:43and in the evening
6:45if you count it the prophet
6:47alaihi wasallam would read this verse
6:48eight times every day
6:51because it describes allah
6:53and what better
6:55to move a person's heart
6:57and to bring it back to life than to
6:59remember who it is all of it is for what
7:02are we doing it all for
7:04so now that you know how important this
7:06subject is
7:07and that this was the core focus of the
7:09messenger
7:10when he taught his companions the first
7:13and the number one and the most
7:14important thing he taught them who is
7:16their creator
7:19and he taught it to them in a way they
7:20could relate one day
7:22in medina
7:24a woman lost her child and back in the
7:26day they didn't have lost and found they
7:28didn't have missing persons department
7:30they didn't have the police so the child
7:32is lost the child is lost
7:36they didn't have gps location either the
7:38child is gone and for days and weeks
7:40this mom is looking for her child
7:43and anybody who knows what their mother
7:45is like or any mother or any female or
7:47sister in the audience knows
7:49what is it like for a mother to lose her
7:51child even for 10 minutes a mother
7:53starts to panic
7:54but imagine days and weeks
7:57and one moment happened in madina where
7:59this woman found her child
8:02and when she found her child she began
8:04running to him and crying
8:06and sobbing
8:09and she grabbed her child
8:12and the prophet salallahu turned around
8:14and all of his companions were crying
8:16just watching the incident
8:19and he said to his companions
8:22you see this lady
8:27can you imagine her burning her child in
8:29a fire they said
8:31impossible
8:33he said to his companions
8:37more merciful to you than this mother to
8:39her child
8:41you see you knew allah was merciful but
8:43when he gave that example you understood
8:45it in a different way
8:48right this is how the prophet saw allah
8:50would introduce allah and emphasize who
8:52is allah to his companions
8:56now coming to this topic
8:58the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
8:59says in hadith
9:02the creme de la creme of hadith the most
9:04one of the most authentic hadith
9:16allah has 99 names 100 minus 1.
9:20whoever internalizes them
9:23i will explain this later
9:26they are guaranteed paradise
9:28now
9:30this hadith with the this wording that
9:32i've given is one of the most
9:34is in the most authentic collections of
9:36hadith
9:37but there are other versions of this
9:39hadith there are other versions of this
9:41report there are weak
9:43meaning they are not strong in
9:45authenticity we cannot say that the
9:47prophet saw allah definitely said these
9:49words
9:50and these other versions of the hadith
9:52have a list of names of allah
9:54many of you have heard the nasheed the
9:56song
10:03you've all heard this nasheed and these
10:0499 names are taken from these other
10:07versions of the hadith these are hadith
10:08all week according to many scholars
10:10including ibn hazm
10:14and
10:16all of these many of these scholars they
10:18consider
10:19this list of names to be weak so how did
10:21it get there how did it come in the
10:22hadith
10:24they say that this is
10:26this used to happen is that sometimes
10:27somebody will narrate a hadith
10:29a narrator a reporter he will say the
10:32prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said
10:34xyz
10:36and then he'll say something else from
10:37himself
10:38[Music]
10:40but the person listening thinks all of
10:42that is the hadith of the prophet
10:44they call this mudraj it's like imagine
10:46if i said to you the prophet salallahu
10:48alaihi wasallam i said
10:50from the goodness of a person is islam
10:54is
10:55to keep their mind out of what is not
10:58their business
11:00and we keep our minds in so many
11:02people's business you see that extra
11:03line i added that's not the hadith
11:05that's from me
11:06but somebody could mistakenly write that
11:08as part of the hadith and pass it on
11:10that's a mistake
11:12and so this happened and so when you
11:14look at all of the narrations the 99
11:16names that are written down or that are
11:18passed on by the these narrators they
11:20are conflicting they're different
11:22different many different versions
11:25and there are 20 or 30 odd names that
11:28are not in the quran and not in the
11:29sunnah
11:30in this list of names
11:33and so
11:34many scholars said that these 99 names
11:36are not from the hadith not from the
11:38statement of the prophet sallallahu
11:39alaihi
11:41and so what does that mean
11:43that means he told us allah has 99 names
11:45whoever internalizes them enters
11:47paradise and that's it we have to go
11:49look for these names
11:51just like he told us about laylatul
11:53he didn't tell us where is leila
11:56similarly many scholars understood it
11:59this way
12:00and of course many scholars have tried
12:02and derived from the quran what are
12:04these 99 names but first here's a
12:06question
12:07does this hadith mean allah only has
12:09exactly 99 names
12:12not 105 not 103
12:14how many names does allah really have
12:18we'll ask all of you what do you think
12:19does allah have exactly 99 names or does
12:21he have more or less
12:24yes young man sorry
12:26more who thinks this is exactly how many
12:28names allah has
12:30don't be shy
12:32if anybody gives you eyes i will deal
12:34with them insha'allah share your opinion
12:40uncle says if the prophet says 99 99 we
12:43follow this one
12:46okay so many scholars when the scholars
12:47looked at this hadith
12:50they concluded
12:51some of them said what is our respected
12:53uncle is saying that allah has exactly
12:5599 names not more not lest
12:58other scholars said no
13:00because some of the narrations that came
13:01have 103 105 names
13:05and when some scholars collected all the
13:06names of allah in the quran and so now
13:08they said oh this is more than 99.
13:10but also if i told you
13:13i have a hundred pounds
13:15does that mean i don't have a thousand
13:17pounds in another bank account
13:20right so it's not does not mean many
13:23majority of scholars have come to the
13:24conclusion allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
13:26doesn't have exactly 99 names he has
13:28more and the most clear evidence for
13:30this is the hadith in which the prophet
13:32sallallahu alaihi islam used to make dua
13:34to allah and he said
13:39oh allah i ask you with every name of
13:41yours
13:43names you have given yourself
13:47or names you have revealed in your
13:48scripture
13:52or names you have taught somebody in
13:53your creation
13:58or names which nobody knows and you have
14:00kept a secret hidden with yourself in
14:03the unseen
14:04that means there are some names of allah
14:06nobody will know
14:08it is with allah in the unseen
14:10and that is the clear evidence to state
14:12there are more names of allah perhaps
14:13but we don't know all of them
14:15however
14:16these 99 are the ones that will help us
14:19enter jannah
14:20these are the special 99.
14:24what does it mean
14:26whoever
14:28many translate this hadith to say
14:30whoever memorizes them enters jannah so
14:32if your child knows this
14:35he knows all the
14:37golden ticket vip ticket to paradise
14:39automatically that's not how it works
14:54recorded it he uses it to mean the word
14:56recording
14:59uses this word
15:00to mean
15:01your ability your actions
15:04and this is why many of the scholars
15:05said this is what it means it's not
15:07about memorizing his names
15:11this doesn't have any value
15:14it's about
15:15can you
15:16think of these names
15:18understand what they mean and act upon
15:20that understanding this is what will
15:22enter you into jannah
15:23so if you know
15:24allah will you cheat your neighbor in
15:27order to get some little bit of extra
15:28money
15:29if you know allah is
15:31will you register you and your wife on
15:32different addresses and lie to the
15:34government to get some job seekers
15:35allowance is what people do no you won't
15:37do that allah will provide you why do
15:39you need to cheat why do you need to
15:40steal
15:42so if you know allah will provide
15:44and you trust in his providence
15:47this is what will enter you into jannah
15:48not just memorizing the names
15:52now how do we deal with the names of
15:55allah
15:57how can we interact with them
16:00the names of allah
16:02the prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam
16:03somebody asked him
16:05if i'm dressed nicely
16:07i'm wearing louis vuitton and gucci and
16:09i'm wearing nice clothes branded clothes
16:11looking nice and smelling nice does this
16:13mean i'm proud and arrogant the prophet
16:16saw allah said no
16:17in allah
16:19allah is the most beautiful you have
16:22bull jamal he loves to see beauty
16:24this is the first thing
16:26when allah has a name
16:28he loves to see
16:30his creation
16:32trying to have some of that quality in
16:35their lives
16:36if allah is the most beautiful he loves
16:38to see people trying to be beautiful
16:40if allah is the most patient he loves to
16:42see you trying to be patient
16:44with your husband with your wife with
16:46your children when they irritate you and
16:48they annoy you you are patient allah
16:50loves to see that
16:52if allah
16:54is
16:55the most merciful he loves to see you
16:58being merciful to those who wrong you to
17:00those who hurt you to those who belittle
17:02you to forgive them to be merciful from
17:05them what does allah say in the quran
17:10forgive and forget
17:15wouldn't you like for allah to forgive
17:17you as well
17:18do to others as you would like allah to
17:20do to you so this is the first way
17:22we should learn from allah's names how
17:24to behave with others and how to be in
17:26this world
17:28the second thing
17:30allah tells us in the quran call upon me
17:33using my names and this is a skill
17:36and we can learn this skill and we will
17:37do this every lesson we are going to
17:39bring a dua of the prophet sallallahu
17:42alaihi
17:43from the quran where they use this name
17:45of allah to speak to him
17:48because they use it in the right way
17:51they use it in the correct way
17:53i'll give an example
17:54the prime minister the queen or the
17:56prime minister let's say
17:58the prime minister drives a car right
18:01so it's fair to say the prime minister
18:03is a driver right
18:06but if you want something from the prime
18:07minister you're making a request would
18:10you call him hey driver
18:12can you give me some you wouldn't right
18:16how would you call him your majesty your
18:18eminence sir madam you with respect
18:22so every name of allah subhana has a
18:24place and a time to speak to him with
18:28correct
18:30for example
18:32my mother
18:34i can call her mama
18:36i can call her ummi
18:37i can call her my beloved
18:40but usually i will not call her darling
18:43this is something that usually husbands
18:44will call their wives
18:46right there are certain things the
18:48husband would call his wife and certain
18:49things a child will call their mother so
18:52same person
18:53they have multiple names people know
18:55them by different names
18:56and so you choose the right name for the
18:58right situation when my mother is angry
19:00with me she does not say
19:03abu yusuf she says
19:07what are you doing
19:08full name the full name comes when i
19:10know she's angry with me i start to run
19:13yes so every name has the correct
19:14situation this is just when we give
19:16examples in our day-to-day life this is
19:18just for us to understand
19:20allah is beyond all of these human
19:22interactions
19:27to give him a gift that he has given
19:30nobody else he says
19:34you are the giver of gifts
19:37and you give gifts
19:38not according to how much is in your
19:40wallet you give gifts as much as you
19:41want
19:42allah give me please
19:44see when he wanted something from allah
19:46he used the correct name
19:48he got it
19:49if you use the correct names of allah it
19:51increases your chance of dual being
19:53accepted this is the second the first
19:55way is to when you learn the names of
19:57allah bring it into your life
19:59practically and number two when you
20:01learn the names of allah speak to him
20:03with them and use the right name in the
20:05right place in the right situation
20:07now
20:08before we enter the names of allah there
20:10are a few things we need to understand
20:11about allah's names
20:14the first
20:16what is the difference between a name of
20:17allah
20:19and a description of allah
20:21and action of allah
20:23for example
20:25if somebody
20:29drove drove a car
20:31just one time
20:32never again can i call them a driver
20:35no who's a driver
20:39what's a driver tell me
20:42he drives
20:43often
20:44very very very common he's always
20:46driving he or she is always driving so
20:48you call this person as a driver
20:50right
20:53so when allah has a name in arabic names
20:56means something constant something
20:58always there something permanent
21:01an action of allah is something it
21:03happens one-off or it happens
21:04occasionally
21:06for example allah says in the quran
21:10they plotted against the prophet
21:12sallallahu alaihi
21:14but allah was plotting against them
21:16but allah plotted against them
21:19this is a verb it happened in the it
21:21happened
21:23you will not call allah al-makir the
21:25plotter
21:27right it's an action of allah it's not
21:29necessarily his name he doesn't call
21:31himself as his this is his name
21:34this is one important thing to
21:35understand so the names of allah are
21:36things are descriptions that are
21:38permanently part of allah subhanahu
21:40ta'ala's description and another thing
21:43allah's names
21:45all of them have descriptions of allah
21:46inside them for example what's your name
21:49ali
21:50when i say this man is ali
21:52does it tell you anything about him
21:54do you know how tall is ali how short
21:56his ali what color is his skin what he
21:58just for you don't know anything about
21:59ali right it's just a name
22:02mexico
22:03mexico is just a name it doesn't tell
22:05you anything about mexico now i tell you
22:07tall man
22:09now you know something about ali this is
22:11the description
22:12short man
22:14intelligent man handsome now you know
22:16about ali these are descriptions
22:19allah's names are all descriptions of
22:22him so when i say
22:25it's the name of allah you can call
22:26allah
22:28just like i can call him ali
22:30but it also tells you something about
22:32him
22:33it tells you that he is ultimately
22:34merciful
22:38you can call allah as a name as samir
22:40the old hearing but it tells you
22:41something about him it describes him he
22:44can hear every single thing including
22:47the whispers in your mind
22:49and so every name of allah has a
22:51description inside it of allah
22:54yeah
22:55so this is something important to
22:56understand about the names of allah and
22:58there's another thing to import and
22:59understand about the names of allah
23:01allah says in the quran
23:07there is nothing like allah
23:11and he is the old hearing and the all
23:13seeing
23:14now for example when i tell you
23:18mercy
23:20sometimes a person
23:22can be merciful to another person
23:25to get some benefit from them
23:28maybe what's your name ankur
23:30sorry
23:33beautiful name maybe ali wants to marry
23:36uncle fazilichudda's daughter
23:38so he's very merciful to uncle he
23:41carries his shoes
23:42yes gives him a back massage uncle you
23:45are the most handsome uncle in the
23:46masjid this is rahma this is mercy but
23:48behind the mercy there is a motivation
23:51secret motivation
23:52yes
23:53if you are laughing don't worry
23:54inshallah your names will be next in the
23:56examples
23:57okay don't worry it's coming as well
23:59it's coming
24:01nobody will be left
24:02behind so
24:05this is mercy human beings show mercy
24:07but they never show mercy they don't
24:08show mercy in a perfect way allah's
24:10mercy is perfect
24:12allah doesn't need anything from you to
24:13show mercy
24:15allah doesn't want anything from you he
24:16has no motivation no agenda
24:19my father allah will be becoming
24:21why would allah punish you he has
24:23nothing to gain from you or to lose from
24:24you this is just one example
24:26allah when we say allah subhanahu ta'ala
24:29is the ultimately merciful you may know
24:31mercy but allah's mercy is something
24:33else
24:34and in these lessons we will talk about
24:36the differences
24:38when we say allah provides he doesn't
24:40provide like a father provides for his
24:42family his provision is different how is
24:44it different we'll explain and like this
24:46for every name of allah so you know he
24:48is not like you and he is not like other
24:51people and many people they leave islam
24:54they forget allah they become angry with
24:56allah because they feel like allah they
24:58begin to dislike allah subhanahu wa
25:01because something bad happened in their
25:02life
25:03because they misunderstand allah
25:06when somebody does something wrong in
25:07your life it's because he hates you
25:09right
25:10or he dislikes you he's angry with you
25:12if you come to my car that's parked
25:14outside and you slash my tires
25:16it means you like me you're my best
25:17friend no i mean you dislike me you
25:19don't like me you don't want me to drive
25:20home you came when you slashed my tires
25:23but when allah subhanahu ta'ala gives us
25:25difficulty in life is it because he
25:26dislikes us well we are the builder
25:29but some people we feel this way
25:31we lose a child we lose a parent we lose
25:33a job something bad happens to us
25:35we feel angry with allah subhanahu wa
25:36tala
25:37because we don't understand allah is
25:39different to humans he doesn't give us
25:43difficulty because he dislikes us he
25:45gives us difficulty because he loves us
25:48if only we understood him
25:50it would change our life and so these
25:52sessions inshaallah they will change
25:54your life
25:55because you will begin to understand
25:56really allah who he is
25:59and with these introductions
26:01so he said allah is not like anybody we
26:04said the difference between allah's name
26:06and allah's description and allah's
26:08action and we talked about the
26:11importance of knowing allah and that it
26:12is the very purpose we exist is to know
26:14who he is and it is the greatest thing
26:16we can ever know
26:18now let us go to the first name
26:21the first name of allah that we will
26:22discuss and that is the name
26:25allah
26:28who allah
26:30he is allah
26:32what does allah mean
26:34the arab linguists they had a
26:36debate because in arabic names
26:40they come from root letters
26:42like when you go to the gold shop
26:45you see a ring you see a necklace
26:48and what else what other jewelry you see
26:50earrings rings for you
26:52but when you ask what is the price of
26:54this what's the main way for someone to
26:56know the value of this is the gold
26:59how many grams of gold
27:01in the end all of these things are
27:02different forms different shapes but in
27:05the end it comes back to gold
27:07like this in arabic there are words
27:13he's a beater
27:14madhub someone who was beaten so in
27:17arabic the way words work it's not like
27:19that in english you have root letters
27:21and many words come out of that
27:23semitic languages are like this hebrew
27:25persian urdu arabic they are like this
27:26they have root letters and many words
27:29are coming out of this
27:31think of it like gold and then you have
27:33rings and you have bracelets and you
27:35have so many different forms each one is
27:37beautiful in a different way but it has
27:39the same source
27:41now allah
27:43this is one type of word words they have
27:45a source they come from
27:47specific letters
27:48there's another type of word in arabic
27:50it's a proper name it's not taken from
27:52anything like for example manchester
27:56does manchester have some rootlet no
27:58that is the name of the city
28:00it wasn't taken from anything else that
28:02is a proper name of the city manchester
28:03mexico is the name of the city
28:06it wasn't derived from basra in iraq
28:09now basar means i
28:11does the city of basra have anything to
28:14do with the i no there's no relation
28:15there's no link it's just a name
28:19so this is what the scholars the arabic
28:21scholars of the arabic language they had
28:22a disagreement
28:24allah
28:26is that the proper name of allah
28:29his actual name
28:31or does it come from some root letters
28:37will describe what is it
28:40the majority of scholars went to the
28:42opinion that
28:43it is derived this name comes from
28:45al-ilah
28:48not the proper name of allah and they
28:50had a number of evidences for this but
28:52one interesting evidence that i can
28:54share with you
28:55think about it
28:57the quran is in arabic
29:00the arabs knew the name allah before the
29:02quran came
29:03the arab poets the jahili poets before
29:05islam before the prophet muhammad they
29:08were saying the word allah
29:10yes but before before before before
29:13didn't allah reveal books to other
29:15prophets
29:18what language did isa islam speak does
29:20anybody know
29:21yes
29:23aramaic very good
29:34a language called aramaic
29:36not arabic
29:38and in the oldest now we don't know
29:41really what was in the injeel that allah
29:43revealed to isa because it's been edited
29:45by many many many many editors
29:48but the best
29:49our best guess
29:51what was the way what was the word used
29:53to call allah in the aramaic scripture
29:56elohim
29:58elohim sounds very similar to al-ilah
30:02elohim
30:05other other words in the hebrew bible
30:06they use the word yahweh
30:09or
30:11similar comes from similar root al-ilah
30:14and so this is why many scholars they
30:16said that
30:17allah
30:18comes from the words
30:22and when the aramaic or the hebrew or
30:24the other people spoke to allah they
30:26didn't use the word allah they used
30:27elohim they used el-lai they used other
30:29words but it mean the same thing
30:33other scholars in the in islam they said
30:35no allah is his name and everybody
30:37called him allah and they have their
30:38evidences
30:39we we're not going to go into this
30:40because you'll all go to sleep
30:42but the majority of scholars including
30:44sibawaii
30:46uh
30:49many arabic languages they said
30:51now we come to this
30:53what does
30:55mean
30:56so we know what is allah
30:58al-ilah
31:00we know al in arabic means what
31:02the
31:04but what does
31:05mean this is now we have come to the
31:07gold we have put took taken the jewelry
31:10apart we've melted it we come to the
31:11gold the source
31:13what does
31:14mean yes
31:16sorry
31:17a god
31:19yes
31:22god you were scratching your head
31:23weren't you you didn't have your hand
31:25so
31:27it gets gone
31:30the one who's being worthy of worshipped
31:32now all the english translations will
31:34tell you illah means the one worthy of
31:36worship so allah means the one worthy
31:38are worshipped
31:40no no have the word is much more deeper
31:42than this
31:43the english translation killed it it
31:45destroyed it
31:49if i tell you mexico is a country
31:51that's it
31:52yeah it's not nothing interesting there
31:54just it's just it's a country allah
31:59scholar said it has two possible root
32:01letters
32:08this is the first possibility which
32:10means to be in awe of something you know
32:12when you say this is awesome
32:14to be amazed
32:16to be amazed by something
32:18so allah al-ilah he is the most amazing
32:23the one who makes your jaw drop when you
32:26know who he is
32:28he fills you with fear and with all and
32:31with respect
32:32this is the first meaning of
32:35then you have another meaning
32:41in arabic is used when somebody is
32:43afraid of something and they go and they
32:45hide
32:46yes when you're in war and you see the
32:48bullets and the bombs what you go
32:50quickly and you dig a tunnel and you
32:52hide
32:53you have just done
32:55you have just sought protection on the
32:57earth
32:58which means
33:01when the world pushes you and shoves you
33:03and squeezes you and troubles you
33:05you go looking for
33:07your source of peace and protection and
33:09contentment
33:11that's what
33:12is
33:13the one you go to when you are in
33:15trouble
33:16your sos line your 999 that is
33:20the one you go to for peace the one you
33:22go to for comfort the one you go to for
33:24contentment the one you go to for help
33:26for protection this is al-ilah
33:32how many of us in our lives
33:35when something bad happens to us the
33:36first thing we think of is our mother
33:40or we think of something to cool us down
33:42something to put us to sleep something
33:44to calm us
33:46when there's a storm
33:47difficult times problems in the marriage
33:50financial difficulties the petrol rates
33:52are going up the supermarket everything
33:54is more expensive
33:56where do you go
33:57the prophet saw allah said
34:03when the world got tough for him he
34:05would run away to salah
34:07that was his peace that was his sauna
34:09that was his steam that was his
34:10happiness salah cooled him that is what
34:13al-ilah the one you go to to find peace
34:16and cool when everything gets hot and
34:18difficult
34:21this is just one
34:23portion of the meaning of ilah there's a
34:25second some scholars said al-ilah comes
34:28from
34:32which is intense love
34:35the one who you love
34:37to such an extent it makes you forget
34:39everything else
34:41that is
34:43in arabic there are many words to use
34:45for love who can give me some words for
34:47love yes
34:49hope give me another one
34:51mahaba same thing go give me another one
34:56give me another one
34:58i'm waiting for one more stronger
35:00huh
35:18these words are only used by whom
35:19generally in arabic
35:24by the poets the ones writing the love
35:26stories and the love letters
35:28only they use these words those who are
35:30urdu speakers you know the word
35:32right people don't usually use it for
35:35mother and father or for allah they use
35:37it only for their beloved right
35:41in arabic is one of the highest forms of
35:43love it is one of the ways it's used is
35:46one is the love of a mother for her
35:48child
35:50and the love of a child for their mother
35:57and so
35:58al-ilah
35:59is the one
36:01whom we love
36:02and in the one when we love we find
36:05peace
36:07and we find calmness
36:09and everything else makes sense because
36:11of our love for him
36:12these are the two meanings of al-ilah
36:15the one who is most intensely loved
36:18the one who we go to in times of
36:20difficulty and struggle and pain the one
36:22who we seek protection and refuge and
36:24calm and peace from
36:26and the one is what some of you
36:28mentioned in the translation the one who
36:30is worshiped
36:32the one who we bow our heads down to the
36:34one whom when he says we do and we don't
36:37ask
36:38the one who we give our souls for we
36:40take a bullet for we sacrifice for we do
36:42anything for he is
36:45these are the three meanings of al-ilah
36:48and al-ilah
36:50they call it ibdal
36:51became allah
36:55and this is just one name of allah
36:57subhana
36:58and the scholars said that this is the
37:00greatest name of allah al-ismun
37:03it's called as differed because there is
37:05a statement of the prophet sallallahu
37:07alaihi sallam that allah has one name
37:09the greatest name of allah either durya
37:12bihista
37:14if he's called by this name he responds
37:19and if you ask him using this name he
37:21gives you
37:22it's called as different which name is
37:24this many scholars said this is like
37:26we don't know but we have to search
37:28using every name of allah to see which
37:30name is that one that golden name
37:32but many scholars said it is allah
37:35because all of the names come under this
37:38name and they describe this name and
37:40this is the ultimate description of
37:41allah
37:44and it is rated in hadith of the prophet
37:46sallallahu alaihi
37:47that the day of judgment will not come
37:51until there is not a person on this
37:53earth who says allah allah
37:56when there is on this earth nobody who
37:58says the name of allah
38:00the day of judgment is going to come
38:03so as long as you guys are here
38:05and the ladies and the gentlemen are
38:07here saying the name of allah inshaallah
38:09it's not time yet
38:11yes
38:17he's asking does it mean only the name
38:18of allah or all the names of allah who
38:20can tell me an ayah in the quran that
38:22responds to this question
38:29her father her father
38:33when we say
38:35the day of judgment will not come
38:37until there is nobody who says allah
38:41he is asking
38:46jamil but not the one i was looking for
38:48he's saying is it only the name of allah
38:49or what about other names of allah so if
38:51somebody's saying
38:54does that mean that their judgment will
38:55still come
39:07all of them are his names
39:10so many scholars deduce that this
39:12doesn't mean you have to say the word
39:13allah but any name of allah there's
39:16nobody on earth to remember him that is
39:18when the day of judgment will come
39:21and this is where
39:22our brother mentioned this
39:29would never punish them while they are
39:31seeking forgiveness of him
39:33the day of judgment will not come as
39:35long as we are remembering allah
39:36subhanahu wa
39:38and so this is one name of allah
39:43one meaning is the one one who is most
39:45intensely loved and one meaning is the
39:47one we go to in times of difficulty the
39:49one who protects us the one who shades
39:51us the one we find peace and contentment
39:52in
39:54and we said al-ilah is the one who only
39:56deserves worship and deserves servitude
39:58and deserves sada and zakah and all of
40:01our attention
40:04because people can make anything in
40:05their life
40:08is it not true that people love some
40:10things more than allah
40:11it's true it happens right what does
40:12allah say in the quran
40:18have you seen people who made their
40:19desires
40:21what does that mean whenever they
40:23difficult time painful time they go
40:25straight
40:26to their desire they fulfill their
40:27desires
40:28they go out for a munch makes them feel
40:30better
40:32yes they fulfill some of their more
40:33haram desires makes them feel better
40:36they don't turn to allah
40:37they love those things more than allah
40:39this is very dangerous
40:41and what about those as allah says in
40:43the quran
40:47they have equals to allah they love
40:49something else more than allah there are
40:51people who love wealth more than allah
40:54they love their job more than allah they
40:55love their spouse more than allah
40:57so if their wife or husband or their job
41:00or money tells them something
41:02they're willing to throw allah's laws in
41:03the bin in order to get a bit more of
41:05their wealth or a bit more happiness
41:07from their wife or a bit more
41:08recognition from society because allah
41:11doesn't matter that much to them
41:12so when you say
41:16that means
41:18there is no one you love more than allah
41:21there is no one who deserves your
41:22attention more than allah
41:24there is no one you turn to when push
41:27comes to shove and difficult times come
41:29more than allah
41:31there is no one you worship but allah
41:33when you cry you cry for allah when you
41:36give up you give up with your head on
41:37the ground
41:40when the world pushes you to your knees
41:42you raise your hands to allah this is
41:43what means
41:46nothing matters to you more than allah
41:48if somebody is giving you a job and it
41:50displeases allah you say no because
41:53allah is more beloved to you if a woman
41:55is offering herself or a man is offering
41:57himself and they slide into your direct
41:59messages
42:00and they are tempting you you throw them
42:02in the bin because you love allah
42:04subhanallah not physically just for
42:06disclaimers i do not advocate any
42:08violence towards anybody
42:10but you push them aside
42:13because allah subhanahu talaha
42:15this is what it means to say allah in
42:17allah and that is all we will cover
42:19today and inshallah in the coming weeks
42:20we will continue in our journey to get
42:22to know our creator
42:27muhammad
42:33so inshallah
42:34remember allah between salah and salah
42:37salaam
42:53you
