0:10greetings your references and
0:12backgrounds have been triple checked and
0:14confirmed and you are now vetted as a
0:16sentinel operative welcome to firewall
0:18friend for those new to our private
0:20Network firewall is an organization
0:23dedicated to protecting transhumanity
0:25from threats both internal and external
0:27to our continued existence as a species
0:30The Vault may have reminded us that our
0:32ability to survive and prosper is not
0:34guaranteed but our kind has a remarkably
0:36short attention spent despite our
0:39achievement in functional near
0:40immortality we continue to face numerous
0:43dangers that may contribute to our
0:45Extinction some of these risks come from
0:47our own factionalism and divisiveness
0:49combined with universally available
0:51technology that could cause widespread
0:53destruction and Untold deaths in the
0:55wrong hands some stem from our
0:57shortsightedness failing to see the
0:59dangers in which we place ourselves and
1:01our environments through careless
1:03actions some arise from our own
1:05Creations turned against us as the
1:07Titans proved other risks may come from
1:10Alien intelligences whom motivations we
1:13cannot yet fathom and of whom we may not
1:16even be aware still Others May threaten
1:19Us by sheer chance and the Mindless but
1:22deadly cause and effect of a universe in
1:24which we are but an insignificant Speck
1:27firewall exists to identify analyze and
1:29encounter these risks we are all
1:32volunteers we are all placing our own
1:34lives at risk in order to ensure the
1:36survival of
1:37transhumanity firewall has existed under
1:40other names and guises since before the
1:42fall numerous agencies with a similar
1:44agenda banded together in the wake of
1:46those cataclysmic events to assess our
1:49situation and prepare for the worst now
1:51we operate under a single umbrella we
1:54are private Network for two reasons
1:56first our existence and operational
1:58abilities are protected by our secrecy
2:01the less our opponent knows about us the
2:03more effectively we can counter them
2:05similarly certain authorities might be
2:07hostile to an organization such as ours
2:09operating in their claimed territory
2:12though some may be aware of our
2:13existence we bypass numeral legal and
2:16jurisdictional hurdles that might
2:18otherwise hamper our actions and goals
2:20second our mission sometimes brings
2:22toight information that is not only
2:24dangerous in the wrong hands but might
2:26even trigger Widespread Panic if made
2:28public in some cas es the very existence
2:31of such knowledge could be problematic
2:33by retaining secrecy and operating on a
2:35need to know basis we automatically
2:37counter certain risks firewall is a
2:40decentralized peer-to-peer Network we
2:43have minimal hierarchy and we answerer
2:45to no one but ourselves our node
2:47structure enables us to share resources
2:49and talents without sacrificing the
2:51privacy and security of our operatives
2:53you have been recruited because of your
2:55knowledge assets or skills and or
2:58because you have come in contact with a
3:00certain restricted data you have proven
3:02your willingness to support our goals
3:04our lives and existence and the future
3:07of transhumanity May rest in your hands
3:09so here's to the future may we all lift
3:12see
3:24[Music]
3:27it I want you to sit down grab yourself
3:30a [ __ ] drink you can forget the AI
3:33generated message intro crap you just
3:35read now here's the real deal you're
3:38probably dying to know what you've been
3:40trapped into maybe you've been told the
3:43party line already that we're all that
3:46stands between transhumanity and
3:49Extinction someone whispered to you that
3:52we're a rogue operation the metals and
3:54heavy [ __ ] that we have no authority to
3:57get involved in and that we
4:00sometimes get people killed as a
4:02result and you must be
4:05curious maybe you've got a vigilan
4:08streak and you're looking to spill blood
4:10for a good cause would it matter to you
4:13if the cause was a deluded one maybe
4:16you're a conspiracy going n and you're
4:18dying to know what secrets are far it's
4:20cling to its Collective
4:23chest what those Secrets shattered the
4:27carefully constructed lies that we all
4:29tell to ourselves to keep our Senate
4:32intact everything you heard good or bad
4:35about
4:36firewall very well maybe true we're not
4:40angels we lost the sheen on our ideals
4:43when the times forcibly uploaded their
4:45first human mind right now you should be
4:49asking yourself what the [ __ ] did you
4:51just signed up for because I did and the
4:55truth is I W lots of things most of it
5:00is
5:00good but a lot of it is so [ __ ]
5:03horrible you'll be thinking about
5:05Landing a bullet in your stack and
5:07Resort into an earlier backup so you can
5:10just forget it all if you have any
5:12romantic Visions about being a hero H
5:17you can just trop them now you won't
5:19feel like a hero when you airlock some
5:22kid because caring infectous ntivirus
5:25you won't feel Brave you run across some
5:29altered thing and crap your pants and
5:32you won't even feel human anymore would
5:35you make a call that will cost dozens
5:38hundreds or even thousands of people's
5:41lives even if you are seeing Millions
5:45more so why would anyone be crazy enough
5:47to be part of this thing because it
5:50needs to be done our survival depends on
5:53it to some people it's altruism
5:56defending
5:57transhumanity but really it's about
5:59saving your own [ __ ] neck too sure
6:03you could abstain from taking
6:05responsibility and let some
6:07self-described Authority take care of it
6:10but if the anarchists have anything
6:12right is that people in power cannot be
6:15trusted as often as not they're part of
6:19the
6:19problem so firewall does things the
6:22collective way we're underground and we
6:26have an open source operation we share
6:28information and resources towards a
6:30common goal we organize a network ad hoc
6:34cells smart mob style we don't let
6:38anyone ACR too much power controller
6:41everyone involved in an operation has an
6:44equal say we police ourselves we come
6:48from all sorts of backgrounds and
6:50factions so we Face a comp eny we have
6:54to win there is no
6:57alternative maybe you've heard part of
6:59the pery
7:01Paradox that question as to why if a
7:05Galaxy so huge there were so few signs
7:09of other life even though we've met the
7:12factors and seen evidence of other
7:15aliens our Galactic neighborhood should
7:18be crawling with intelligence but it's
7:20not I'll tell you why the universe is
7:23not [ __ ] fair if trans Humanity were
7:27wiped out the Galaxy wouldn't even
7:29notice
7:30just look at the Earth the plan still
7:33exists supports life even though we're
7:36far gone reality
7:39is an uncaring
7:42[ __ ] forget all that utopian crap
7:45about living forever we'll be lucky to
7:48survive another year we've developed
7:51technologies that put weapons of mass
7:54destruction in the hands of everyone but
7:56we're still an adolescent species as
7:59trouble overcoming any trial
8:02[ __ ] if you're really looking
8:04forward to exploring the universe as
8:06opposed mortal you're going to have to
8:08work hard on it survival isn't a right
8:13it's a privilege when you sign up with
8:16farall you put yourself on call anytime
8:19some [ __ ] goes down in your neck of the
8:21woods or that you might be particularly
8:23helpful in dealing with you'll get a
8:26call you'll be expected to drop whatever
8:29you're doing and put everything else on
8:31hold as if your life depended on it it
8:35probably does when you're in the field
8:38on an OP going to the doctor as we call
8:41it your cell is empowered to act as this
8:44sees fit just keep in mind that you'll
8:48be answering to the rest of us later
8:50you'll also have the firewall Network to
8:52back you up the resources are often
8:56limited so don't expect us to always
8:58save your ass pass other Sentinels can
9:01be called to pool strings but every time
9:05we do so it RS to unveil an agent create
9:08a trail that we need to clean up and
9:11otherwise complicat matters selfreliance
9:15is key one last thing don't ever ever
9:20forget that we have enemies I'm not just
9:23talking about The Nut Job who wants snuk
9:25a habitat to make a political statement
9:28or the netics I think bowar plags will
9:31teach us all a lesson I'm talking about
9:34the
9:34agencies that no fire will exist and
9:38consider it
9:39a if they attack you as a sentinel your
9:42days are your backup too so put your
9:46freaking
9:48back so that's the real as soon as I
9:52give it Welcome to our
9:55secret and remember cover me I'm going
9:58in death it's just another day on the
10:08job suspect
10:12location trans Humanity once a
10:15prosperous species that showed great
10:17potential now brought Low by their own
10:20hubris they have faced near Extinction
10:24and what do they do in response exactly
10:27what they always do
10:30they distract themselves the poor
10:33Retreat into artificial realities or
10:35narcotic nanom machines while the rich
10:38concern themselves with the domination
10:41of their
10:42enemies both forget that their
10:44environments are small cramped bubbles
10:46in the vacuum of
10:48space but the only planet they can
10:50survive on without special augmentation
10:53is a radioactive hell populated by
10:56destructive Nanos swarms that raise cont
11:01in short most of transh humanity keeps
11:04their head buried in the
11:06sand sure there are some organizations
11:09that are trying to safeguard
11:11transhumanity but those agencies are
11:13either corrupt paranoid or bound to
11:15government's more concerned about the
11:17next election cycle than existential
11:20risks these careless outlooks are what
11:23led to the fall in the first place they
11:26also led to the creation of firewall
11:30firewall serves as the primary vehicle
11:32for an eclipse phase campaign so it only
11:35makes sense that the second episode of
11:37this series focuses on who the PCS are
11:40and what they
11:41do so let's get some
11:49backstory let's rewind the clock it's
11:52the 20th century Atomic weapons had just
11:56been used for the first time in war and
11:58just 5 years later en rco fery and his
12:01colleagues laid the groundwork for the
12:03modern understanding of existential
12:05risks known from this point forward as X
12:08risks their torch would be passed down
12:11to Future generations of scientists who
12:14would find themselves struggling against
12:16the current of mass
12:18ignorance you see free fall Earth was
12:21quite typical for a cyberpunk
12:24dystopia corrupt politicians Mega
12:27corporations with all the wealth m es of
12:29anthropomorphic cogs who spent their
12:31free time being outraged at whatever
12:34social media told them to that week with
12:37the ocean of idiots drowning out
12:39rational voices and scientists being
12:42strong armed by shortsighted CEOs and
12:44polititions
12:45knowledge that could save Humanity was
12:48locked behind patents or otherwise
12:50ignored due to lack of economic
12:53incentive the scientific Community was
12:56getting fed up with a society that
12:58remained with willfully ignorant to
13:00their warnings about X risks and Jason
13:04the scientific Advisory Group for the US
13:06government they would be the first
13:08entity to cut their corporate and
13:10government ties in doing so they would
13:13become the Argonauts one of the founders
13:16of firewall and to this day one of the
13:19most respected authorities in scientific
13:23matters the formation of the Argonauts
13:25was a rallying cry to be broadcasted
13:28throughout the summer scientific
13:29Community many scientists from across
13:32the world would join the Argonauts in
13:34secret to provide otherwise private
13:36information and influence corporations
13:39and think tanks towards their Collective
13:41agenda set agenda was to elevate the
13:44voices of science and reason and to
13:46maintain an open policy standard for
13:48scientific findings many groups colluded
13:51with the Argonauts perhaps the most
13:54notable was blue Mars a science and X
13:57risk analysis group on Mars that were
13:59the first to discover Titans had a
14:00foothold on the planet as a testament to
14:03how incompetent transhumans can be Dr an
14:07Leong and her team within blue Mars
14:09would see themselves silenced and their
14:11backups impounded for leaking
14:13information that local governments and
14:15corporations deemed too sensitive this
14:18was a pivotal moment that saw the rest
14:20of blue Mars turn militant and take a
14:22more active role when the fall
14:24officially entered its Hot War Phase
14:26black Mars as this new offshoot was
14:28called would have very few surviving
14:30members but those who did would serve as
14:33an example for other predecessors of
14:35firewall to follow many of these groups
14:39would come together and pull their
14:40resources at the height of the Fall
14:43during this time what would become Proto
14:45firewall was no longer just scientists
14:47trying to warn people about X risks but
14:50also combat veterans Medics cyber
14:52Security Experts and influencers there
14:54are many other groups that would form
14:56the basis of firewall but we don't have
14:58time to to discuss them in detail all
15:01these groups had something in common
15:02though they were all fighting against
15:04existential dread be through
15:07whistleblowers hackers or armed
15:09combatants each one attempted to push
15:11against the fall and aside from some
15:14marginal successes they all failed they
15:17were all too small too disorganized and
15:20too unaware of each other and what they
15:22could bring to the table this however
15:26would soon change
15:31[Music]
15:39Proto firewell had been busy during the
15:41fall if they weren't rescuing refugees
15:44they were conducting dangerous field
15:46research and making use of the data
15:49attempts were made to reach out to
15:51governments and corporations during this
15:53time as well and although a few got
15:56their feet in the back doors of these
15:57organizations
15:59success was still very
16:02limited at the same time though many
16:05experts were being poached by these same
16:08organizations and Proto firewall would
16:10have to scramble to recruit as many as
16:12they could in the style of Operation
16:14Paperclip as the fall wound
16:17down within months of the mysterious
16:20ceasefire that would later be understood
16:22as the end of the Fall a new political
16:25landscape was being
16:27established pap corporations found
16:30themselves to be in charge of massive
16:33populations colonies from different now
16:36extinct governments had to band together
16:38to form new bodies the exis community
16:42was no exception the Argonauts who had
16:45set up shop in the Yota Rim prior to the
16:47fall hosted the first xode 1 conference
16:50in simel space for the exis community to
16:53congregate and establish a Next Step
16:56predictably very little was accomplished
16:58during the this conference however two
17:01key developments
17:02occurred firstly a secure and private
17:06social network would have to be built to
17:08facilitate
17:09communication this would be called the I
17:12firewall's own network within the Deep
17:15mesh complete with its own Wiki and
17:17reputation
17:19system the second was an agreement that
17:22resources would be pulled in order to
17:24combat future X
17:26risks almost immediately after after the
17:29eyes formation clashes would occur on
17:32its
17:33forums some wanted resources directed
17:36towards countering x- risks headon While
17:38others argued they should be funneled
17:40into escape and survival plans to this
17:44day the debate rages on another argument
17:47was over the inclusion of infolife as
17:50members of the
17:51organization after all AIS are
17:54responsible for the fall at least that's
17:57how many survivors see it thankfully for
18:01the AGI members of firewall today
18:04rationality overcame post-fall
18:07paranoia unfortunately it took the
18:10destruction of a ship loaded with
18:12120,000 egos for the organization to
18:15realize its own
18:16xenophobia this would be known as the
18:19sweet dreams Affair named after the ship
18:22destroyed by a cell of Proto firewall
18:24operatives all because the pilot was an
18:27AGI
18:29the sweet dreams incident would become
18:31the first major split that would
18:33solidify the political factions within
18:35the movement the pragmatists the
18:38conservatives and the
18:40backups many members left the eye over
18:43similar debates to form their own
18:45organizations such as the reclaimers
18:48this wasn't much of a problem though
18:50since there were millions of refugees
18:52who lost everything including their
18:55bodies and wanted
18:57Revenge not just against the Titans
18:59though but the incompetent powers that
19:02allowed the Titans to exist in the first
19:04place all these people needed was a
19:07cause in the year 1 AF the exmo 2
19:11conference was hosted by the
19:13Argonauts this would be the last time
19:16the Argonauts would host the xode
19:18conference between the discovery of the
19:20gates and the resulting titanian Schism
19:23the continued existence of the Titan
19:25threat as well as the discovery of a
19:28rival organization dubbed project osma
19:31it was clear something needed to be done
19:35Maddie brainbridge of the yman Gand
19:37initiative was the one to call for
19:39unification of what was at this point
19:42still an unnamed network of peers with a
19:45common goal this motion was carried out
19:48with an overwhelming majority and in the
19:51next few days a constitution was written
19:55firewall had officially been established
19:58and the rest is
20:00history so what does it take to be in
20:07[Music]
20:12firewall let's start with the big
20:15picture whenever firewall needs to
20:17establish a presence in a region they
20:20set up what they call a
20:22server which is a collection of between
20:24six and 50 proxies with a set project or
20:27objective to accomplish or meant as a
20:31permanent stronghold or Lookout
20:34post sometimes multiple servers can
20:36operate in the same region or perhaps
20:38multiple regions at the same
20:41time for example the Martian server is a
20:44permanent fixture meant to keep track of
20:46multiple projects at
20:48once such as monitoring activity in the
20:52tqz and the gate crashing Ops of maadim
20:56valis meanwhile a different ser server
20:58dedicated to studying ex surgent strains
21:01May set up a temporary lab to collect
21:04and analyze samples in the tqz and far
21:07cast the findings to their base of
21:09operations somewhere in the main belt
21:12servers always operate on group
21:14consensus though the specifics vary from
21:17server to server for example one server
21:20could operate on a system of direct
21:22democracy while another elect leaders
21:25who will be held responsible by the
21:27entire server
21:29some servers also have a specific
21:31cultural identity that seems to stick no
21:33matter how many times firewall rotates
21:35its members While others seem to have no
21:38identity at
21:39all some servers try to set up a strict
21:42hierarchy or code of law and power
21:45struggles are an occupational hazard
21:48while some servers work together on
21:50intersecting projects they mostly stick
21:53to themselves firewall nearly always
21:56works on a need to know basis
21:58still proxies are expected to at least
22:01give a generalized report on their
22:03server
22:04situation within each server there are
22:07two kinds of Agents Sentinels and
22:11proxies both of them will be covered in
22:13detail but for now we'll just cover them
22:16briefly Sentinels are the grunts and
22:19field agents that form the majority of
22:21the movement they Expendable assets who
22:24are often given only the information
22:26they need to complete the missions
22:27proxies give them Sentinels also have
22:31lives outside a firewall and only need
22:33to answer the call on
22:36occasion proxies meanwhile are full-time
22:39agents that dedicate themselves to
22:41firewall proxies can be considered the
22:44closest thing firewall has to a central
22:47leadership they have much greater access
22:49to information and they are responsible
22:52for ensuring each server is
22:54functional the power structure of
22:57firewall ensures that no no matter how
22:59many heads are cut off the body won't
23:01die that said having so many heads means
23:05not all of them are going to agree
23:08sometimes factions can form sometimes a
23:10server will go Rogue and sometimes due
23:13to the opaque and secret nature of the
23:15organization Friendly Fire incidents can
23:17occur as a good example of just how poor
23:20communication is in firewall they don't
23:23even know how many members they have
23:25only that it's somewhere in the
23:27thousands
23:28firewall is constantly Getting
23:30infiltrated By Any number of third
23:32parties as well and it's not uncommon
23:34that agents get audited for
23:36corruption despite all this though
23:39firewall still pushes forward this is
23:42because the eyes own reputation economy
23:44helps determine which agents are
23:46trustworthy and the decentralized nature
23:49means infiltration corruption
23:51factionalism and power struggles are
23:53easily isolated when the [ __ ] hits the
23:55fan firewall has proven itself capable
23:58of putting aside any grievances to
24:00neutralize numerous X risks the
24:03strangest Paradox of firewall is that
24:05its greatest weakness is also its
24:07greatest strength the internal tension
24:10is what keeps everyone focused on the
24:12main objective skepticism and Faith go
24:15hand in hand to ensure trust is always
24:18maintained now we'll zoom in a bit and
24:21talk about the transhumans that keep the
24:23operation running
24:31[Music]
24:33Sentinels are essentially player
24:36characters and they are typically
24:37organized into small fire teams between
24:40four and eight members known as cells a
24:43cell being your party Sentinels are on
24:47call operatives who are required to
24:49answer the call of duty somewhere
24:50between weekly and monthly basis on
24:54average aside from that Sentinels are
24:57free to pursue whatever careers and
24:58hobbies they wish cells are put together
25:02on Demand by specialized proxies known
25:04as routers who handpick the Sentinels
25:07for the required Mission and disband
25:09them
25:10afterwards however it is not uncommon
25:13for certain cells to remain together
25:15long after their mission especially when
25:17the Sentinels work well
25:19together Sentinels are considered
25:22Expendable assets and they know it trust
25:26in firewall is a brutally honest yet
25:28opaque relationship between proxy and
25:31Sentinel all Sentinels understand that
25:34they work on a need to know basis and
25:36that information can and will be
25:38withheld from them however Sentinels
25:41also understand that they will always be
25:43given any information crucial to their
25:45survival and Mission success as well as
25:48whatever support the server can provide
25:50both during and after a
25:52mission so what does it take to be a
25:55sentinel well it's not as cutting D is
25:58having skill talent and determination
26:01although those are sought after
26:04qualities and yet a surprising amount of
26:07recruits are found in the
26:09field after all someone relatively
26:12competent who shows courage fighting
26:14Titan Mech and bioweapons may be worth
26:16recruiting on the spot these cases are
26:19often exceptions though as they require
26:21a degree of trust in the Judgment of
26:23Sentinels in the field when firewall
26:26actively searches for new Talent though
26:28it's usually carried out by a
26:30proxy methods of prospecting can range
26:33from asking fellow agents on the IFA
26:35noag guy to mesh searches of people with
26:38notable
26:39accomplishments ultimately what firewall
26:42looks for first is talent and skill each
26:45proxy has their own method of drawing in
26:48and evaluating potential recruits they
26:50use some combination of social
26:52engineering stalking and psychosurgical
26:54evaluation to get the job done these
26:58methods can range from subtly nudging
27:00the subject into being interested and
27:02willing to undergo an
27:04evaluation straight up Fork napping the
27:07ego and interrogating it either way the
27:10objective is the same find what
27:13motivates a subject and try to appeal to
27:15that motive in the sales pitch if the
27:18subject declines then something has to
27:20be done to ensure they don't leave with
27:22information about
27:23firewall this can range from simple
27:26memory editing to causing a breach that
27:28launches the subject into deep space as
27:31you can imagine the former is a much
27:34more preferable
27:36alternative as mentioned part of the
27:38recruitment process is about discovering
27:40the subject's
27:42motivations not everyone is willing to
27:44lose everything for the safety of
27:46transhumanity after all especially when
27:48the ones guaranteeing that safety are an
27:51opaque and disjointed Shadow
27:53organization so many Sentinels have
27:55their own selfish interests that fire
27:58wall is happy to accommodate be it
28:00wealth protection from the law access to
28:03Juicy Secrets or just a plain hatred for
28:05the Titans so long as their interests
28:08are aligned firewall doesn't care
28:11likewise firewall isn't too strict on
28:14Sentinels ideology so long as it doesn't
28:17conflict with their MO and they respect
28:19the decentralized nature of the
28:21movement as a result a sentinel will
28:24have to cooperate with people from all
28:26walks of life uplifts agis hyper Elites
28:30socialists fascists Communists
28:32anarchists extropia Argonauts mad
28:35scientists terrorists criminals Lost
28:37Generation kids socialites
28:38bioconservatives techn progressives the
28:41list goes on and on firewall needs
28:45diversity of opinion to ensure decisions
28:47aren't made in an echo chamber if you
28:50spend enough time as a sentinel if you
28:53prove your skills dedication and
28:56loyalty and if you're okay with
28:58surrendering your mental privacy to
29:00firewall you may end up with a promotion
29:03from Sentinel to
29:07[Music]
29:13proxy for the Sentinels firewall is a
29:17side
29:18gig volunteer work with some added perks
29:22but for many proxies firewall is what
29:25pays their bills sometimes literally
29:28the proxies formed a foundation of
29:30firewall and a new one is added every so
29:33often though the promotion process can
29:35be a little
29:36complicated to be a proxy is to be
29:39considered an invaluable asset to the
29:41movement it means more trust and freedom
29:44but also more
29:46responsibility it also means you're
29:48skilled in multiple Fields firewall
29:50deems
29:51crucial firewall separates proxies into
29:54a number of roles so that coordination
29:57and identific ific ation of Specialists
29:59is more
30:00streamlined of course proxies aren't
30:03pigeon hold into these roles in fact
30:06regular roll rotation is considered
30:08ideal for
30:10obac these roles are as follows the
30:13first proxy role was the crow this is
30:16due to firewall's origin as altruistic
30:18scientists before the fall in fact many
30:22crows are researchers and professors who
30:24just Moonlight as proxies especially
30:27Argonauts
30:28this also means that key data from
30:30private and government research agencies
30:33will occasionally leak into
30:35firewall math quantum physics machine
30:38learning robotics psychosurgery medicine
30:41bioengineering xenobiology
30:44xenoarchaeology and anything related to
30:46the Titans and ex
30:48surgence these are just some of the
30:50areas of expertise for which crows are
30:52called upon when crows aren't busy
30:55providing their consultation for that
30:58thing you scraped off a wall in the tqz
31:01they're busy with R&D firewall may even
31:04set up black labs for them this means
31:06any homebrewed Gadget given to Sentinels
31:08for field testing could be the handiwork
31:10of a crow they may even be able to
31:12provide certain offthe books
31:14modifications for Sentinels in the field
31:17then provide similarly discret Medical
31:19Services when those Sentinels return
31:21from an OP with bullet wounds and Laser
31:23Burns if crows are the brains of
31:25firewall then scanners are the the eyes
31:28and ears the job of scanners are in my
31:31opinion the safest yet most boring job a
31:34proxy can do the job requires scanners
31:37to collect bulk information from the
31:39mesh through limited AIS and search
31:42algorithms then meticulously sift
31:44through that information and sort it by
31:46reliability and Threat Level from there
31:50the results are posted in specific
31:52sections of the eye often restricted
31:54from the average Sentinel or passed to
31:56other specialized proxies like crows for
31:59deeper
32:00analysis any urgent information is
32:02usually issued with a request to open an
32:04operation to which proxies on the server
32:07vote over as you can imagine a lot of
32:11missions are initiated by scanners
32:14considering the magnitude of information
32:16scanners have to sort through most had
32:19to Fork themselves to their limits
32:21sleeve into infomorph and work 30-hour
32:24shifts just to stay on top of their work
32:28even then they're still under
32:30staffed understandably this is why
32:33scanners only focus on information
32:35relevant to firewall's
32:36objectives this is why scanners are
32:39typically embedded into news agencies
32:41security firms political parties rep
32:43networks and hedge funds among other
32:47professions likewise the best scanners
32:49usually have a wealth of knowledge and
32:51Fields like those stated above as well
32:54as stagon ography and cryptography
32:58agis make some of the best scanners as
33:01most of them were developed for this
33:02kind of work scanners are often the
33:05targets of honeypots mematic warfare and
33:08false Flags by rival groups and
33:11organizations while not stated in the
33:13books I'd like to imagine scanners
33:15require a deep understanding of meme
33:17culture to succeed at their job I'd also
33:20like to imagine that too much time in
33:21their role combined with the
33:23psychological toll of forking will
33:25eventually turn scanners into tin foil
33:27TI skos before we knew it by giving over
33:30our Consciousness to the system by our
33:32daily decisions that it was able to
33:33manipulate and control into a larger
33:35system there's now a human Counterstrike
33:38taking place to shut this off before it
33:40gets fully into place and to block these
33:42systems and to try to have an actual
33:44debate about where Humanity goes and cut
33:46off the pedophiles and psychic vampires
33:49that are control of this AI system
33:51before humanity is destroyed if data
33:53compiled by the scanner is is sufficient
33:55enough to Warrant a new operation it's
33:57up to the routers to deal with it
33:59routers are responsible for the
34:01coordination of resources and assets
34:03necessary to take on X
34:05risks this can be as simple as sending
34:08information to the right people hence
34:10the name other times however they are
34:13responsible for putting together a plan
34:15of action and a cell of Sentinels to
34:18execute said
34:19plan in other words they are the
34:22questgivers SL GMS who have to
34:24personally deal with PC shenanigans
34:28so please treat your router with respect
34:31after all they don't get any Glory like
34:33Sentinels yet when an op go sideways
34:36they're at least partly responsible and
34:38have to fill out paperwork on the
34:40Misadventures of the cell in
34:42question they're the ones who have to
34:44explain why the sabotage of ahab's whole
34:47power grid was necessary to complete the
34:50mission so again please consider your
34:53router especially if they're lenient
34:56enough to allow you to carry out a
34:57mission the way you see fit rotors
35:00usually manage multiple cells at a time
35:03even when they're not they're busy with
35:05other executive functions like
35:07coordinating other proxies training new
35:09recruits debriefing and more router are
35:13usually the only ones who take the
35:15initiative in firewall and are perhaps
35:17the only people more overworked and
35:19understaffed than scanners when a router
35:22puts a cell together they usually have
35:25to equip them with the right tools for
35:27the job
35:28this often means acquiring gear that
35:30isn't exactly easy to come by such as an
35:34unregistered machine pistol equipped
35:36with a suppressor and 100 rounds of
35:38ammunition loaded with a neurotoxic
35:41payload in such cases how does a rer
35:44acquire this
35:46gear the same way they acquire funds
35:49needed to keep the lights on in firewall
35:51black labs and Fabrication
35:53sites
35:55registers registers serve as the the
35:57quarter masters of a server and are
35:59responsible for supplying everything
36:01from morphs to
36:03money due to the nature of their work
36:05they're hardly noticed unless the server
36:07is short on
36:09supplies registers come in two flavors
36:12the sunw registers tend to be stock
36:15Brokers Bankers entrepreneurs and
36:17accountants as to reflect the credit
36:20economy Rim word registers are typically
36:23extroverts micro celebrities and fixers
36:25of some variety in order to get rich in
36:28the reputation economy both have to deal
36:30in rep credit and favors though and
36:33often times interweave their work with
36:35other side gigs and business ventures
36:38for example if you need to have a
36:40registered weapon disposed of after a
36:42mission they'll likely know a guy on the
36:45black market and flip it for a profit
36:48when a register isn't buying selling or
36:50laundering they're usually managing
36:52Supply caches and safe houses for a
36:54rainy day ultimately given their
36:58position registers have to be shrewd and
37:01calculating firewall doesn't take kindly
37:03to rich kids using the server budget to
37:05gamble on the stock
37:07exchange so the server gets news from
37:10the scanners which is then passed to the
37:12crows for verification and the rotters
37:15for planning the rotor organizes a cell
37:18and calls on the registers to provide
37:20Mission gear and if Lady Luck wills it
37:23the results of the mission aren't messy
37:28but what if they are
37:29messy maybe the team doesn't make it
37:32back alive or perhaps they left a loose
37:34end or even evidence at the scene of the
37:37crime if an eraser Squad needs to be
37:40called in it's because somewhere down
37:42the line someone [ __ ] up usually the
37:46Sentinels many Sentinels actually fancy
37:49themselves erasers or perhaps look up to
37:51them as examples of the badass they want
37:54to be as a secret
37:56agent the truth is often disappointing
37:59though and not everyone with a
38:00background in military or security is
38:03cut out for the role with rare
38:06exceptions erasers aren't all there in
38:08the head maybe it's because of combat
38:11addiction PTSD or maybe they just have
38:15aspd or maybe they're just di hard
38:18ultimates or members of The Lost
38:21Generation especially in the latter case
38:24perhaps they were serial killers
38:26firewall has a don't AF don't tell
38:28policy when it comes to
38:30erasers either way erasers typically
38:33don't lead normal
38:35lives in one server they may be kept
38:38under close surveillance in another they
38:40may be locked into 24/7 combat Sims in
38:44another they may just keep the egos of
38:47the erasers in Cold Storage only
38:49sleeving them into a morph when
38:52needed either way it's all the same
38:55eraser is stared too deep into the abyss
38:58and now most of their peers see them as
39:00monsters rarely do they ever regain
39:03their lost
39:04Humanity the methods eraser squads use
39:07can vary greatly some might lure their
39:10targets into a Killing Zone others will
39:12use discretion and infiltration and some
39:15just take the direct approach with a
39:17pair of Pumped Up Kicks a fully loaded
39:19Shredder and a belt of thermal barck
39:22grenades these ones usually don't see
39:24Urban
39:25deployment some May work solo rather
39:28than in squads these are by far the
39:30scariest erasers either way though
39:33they're all murder hopos who do whatever
39:35it takes to obliterate their Mark be it
39:38an ego or a whole
39:40facility pray you don't see one approach
39:43you without a heads up because if no one
39:46told you that an eraser was going to be
39:48working alongside you it's because they
39:52aren't erasers are scary because they
39:55will test your backup insurance and
39:57maybe give you
39:59PTSD filters are way scarier though
40:02because they will make you wish you were
40:04dead filters and erasers actually have
40:07similar jobs and that they help clean up
40:09when someone in firewall [ __ ] up
40:12usually the Sentinels the key difference
40:14is that filters are the exact opposite
40:17when it comes to their approach and
40:19personality while erasers have the
40:21Charisma of a Titan war machine filters
40:23are socialites and artists with the
40:25background in psychology impersonation
40:28journalism and marketing in other words
40:31they're social engineers and in a world
40:33where death is just an inconvenience
40:36reputation is eternal so don't get on
40:39their bad side unless you're okay with
40:41waking up to feds at your door and your
40:43spouse emailing you with a divorce
40:45petition thankfully though empathy comes
40:48with the territory and they are aware of
40:50their powers and how to wield them with
40:52tact and finesse filters are deployed
40:54before during and after a mission for
40:57various utilities they may organize a
41:00big social event to distract the
41:02majority of the hab with a fireworks
41:04display big enough to mask any gunshots
41:07when the news of a murdered CEO makes
41:09headlines the next day they'll deploy a
41:11meme to knock it off the trending
41:12results for long enough to forge
41:14evidence that throws off The Wider
41:16public filters do more than support
41:19ongoing missions though through their
41:21influence they can accumulate reps
41:23similar to a register and even Aid a
41:26register in stock
41:28manipulation they also work with
41:30Sentinels to plant and remove evidence
41:32making the narratives they spin more
41:35consistent and vectors can uncover
41:37secret pressure points they can use as
41:40blackmail speaking of vectors they are
41:43last but absolutely not least in this
41:46lineup vectors are the people who keep
41:48the eye running and mostly free of
41:50infiltration
41:52attempts on the surface vectors are
41:55simply the I cops and watchdogs
41:58in reality that would just be a waste of
42:00their
42:01skills which is why they can also
42:03perform a number of roles involving
42:05communication infos saac data
42:08manipulation they can even perform
42:10psycho
42:12surgery to sum it up more simply vectors
42:15or firewalls Elite hackers if a rotor
42:18wants to put new recruits through a VR
42:20training course someone has to program
42:23that course if the registers need weapon
42:26IDs removed or a fabber to be jailbroken
42:30vectors have them
42:31covered do Sentinels need a new secure
42:34Communication channel vectors will set
42:37one up they may even provide hacking
42:39support directly to Sentinels in the
42:41field though this is rarely done for the
42:44same reason you'd rarely use a
42:45sledgehammer to crack walnuts when they
42:48are needed on the attack though they
42:50usually do so in coordinated groups in
42:53order to maximize success rates
42:55considering the crucial nature their job
42:58and the sensitive information they get
42:59exposed to vectors are simultaneously
43:02kept happy and on a short leash they are
43:05expected to operate with more
43:07transparency than usual while also being
43:09heavily sanctioned off into their own
43:11squads to prevent
43:13leaks that about covers it for the
43:15internal structure of firewall so what's
43:18it like to be a member
43:20[Music]
43:28at first it sounds pretty cool to be a
43:30secret agent who gets to handle
43:32restricted weapons and save the solar
43:34system it brings out a sort of childlike
43:38sense of adventure in
43:39everyone but remember my opening
43:42statement the majority of transhumanity
43:44would rather bury their heads in the
43:46sand and with good
43:48reason soon enough every Sentinel will
43:52begin to realize the gravity of their
43:55situation you will have to cancel going
43:57to your mother's birthday party last
43:59minute lie to her face about why
44:02disappear for days then come back to
44:05find a concerned look on her face then
44:07when she asks if you're okay you have to
44:09lie again and pretend like you didn't
44:12witness a cellmate rapidly turn into an
44:15eldrich horror before your eyes no one
44:18will see the things you see no one will
44:21bear the responsibility and guilt you
44:24will if you're lucky you can maintain
44:27relationships with loved ones but you
44:29will always feel the crushing alienation
44:32there's a reason why some want their
44:34memories edited and some even ask if
44:37they can submit an official resignation
44:39on top of that memory wipe others will
44:42start to view firewall as her only true
44:45family after all who else can empathize
44:49with the things you go through who else
44:52can understand the Hopeless and
44:53nihilistic truth you've been exposed to
44:57and that's just from the existential
44:59threats like the factors Titans and
45:02Pandora Gates agents who are compromised
45:05could face their egos being put on ice
45:07for a number of years and that's the
45:10best case scenario worst case some hyper
45:13Corp Authority might put you through a
45:15psychosurgical interrogation and torture
45:18every drop of knowledge out of you then
45:21heavily edit your ego so that you turn
45:23into a brainwashed mole or worse they
45:26sell your ego to exh humans who have
45:29their own private hell waiting for you
45:32if you manage to get through the initial
45:34shock of it all though you'll find that
45:36being ESS Sentinal isn't as bad as you
45:39think like I said there are people in
45:42firewall who understand the pain and
45:44know the importance of keeping everyone
45:47in one piece they'll help in any way
45:50they can like helping you make an alibi
45:52so your mom doesn't get worried about
45:54you likewise most favored asked of you
45:57will be fairly mundane like giving
45:59someone a place to crash delivering a
46:02cube of platinum to a dead drop or being
46:04someone's datee at a social event
46:07eventually though you will be called
46:09upon for an actual Mission and if you're
46:12lucky your router might start you off
46:14with something easy missions can range
46:17from Espionage to scorched Earth tactics
46:21some missions can be as simple and
46:23boring as surveillance of a hyper Corp
46:25research building other times a team may
46:28be sent to a ship or habitat that's gone
46:31completely dark equipped with military
46:33grade hardware and an expectation of the
46:36worst case
46:37scenario heists assassinations sting
46:41operations undercover work blackmail
46:43smuggling sabotage
46:45purging all are things Sentinels may
46:48need to do these missions may not even
46:52directly relate to the countering of X
46:55risks after all firewall isn't
46:58completely
46:59self-sufficient sometimes you'll have to
47:01take out a rival gang's pedal lab for
47:03the night cartel in exchange for them
47:05smuggling you in that plasma rifle maybe
47:09an AGI escaped their corporate Masters
47:11and firewall is being offered a healthy
47:13amount of credits to egap and hand them
47:16back over all this isn't to say that
47:19firewall is a moral but rather morality
47:22is a luxury that the movement can't
47:24always
47:25afford after all the Titans may be gone
47:29but their machines and plagues and
47:31viruses are still here left to their own
47:36devices their masters are still out
47:38there somewhere and that alone is enough
47:41reason for transhumans to be kept up at
47:44night but that is a topic for another
47:49day well it's finally done first off I'm
47:54sorry for the amount of time it took to
