0:00we're gonna take a few minutes to talk
0:01about astrology now hopefully when you
0:04sign up for this course nobody misread
0:06the title and thought that's what they
0:07were getting into because if so you are
0:10in for an unpleasant surprise because
0:12astronomy is incredibly different than
0:15astrology
0:15it is a science fact-based study whereas
0:19astrology is most definitely not it is
0:21not based on any kind of actual valid
0:24evidence as we're gonna discuss I mean
0:27we're especially looking at natal
0:29astrology it's this idea that when you
0:33were born
0:34somehow is gonna impact your personality
0:36and your future how you what fortune you
0:39will be brought this is a really old
0:42idea developed over 2,000 years ago
0:45still a decent number of people seem to
0:49buy into it these days even on face
0:52value it should seem questionable just
0:54by the idea of why would where the
0:57celestial objects were arranged on your
1:00day of birth why does that have any
1:02impact on you your book actually makes a
1:04great point saying that even if you
1:06considered the different pull of the
1:08planets depending on where they are that
1:11is nothing it's a fraction of the pull
1:13of the person delivering you so how
1:14could they possibly matter also I mean
1:18why would the day of your birth matter
1:21when there's so many other things that
1:23influence your development over time
1:25like when you're actually being grown
1:29but well looking at just from a
1:32standpoint of how people tend to do with
1:34ology you've probably seen it I give
1:37horoscopes you see it in a newspaper all
1:39the time and your son sign what you are
1:42depending on the month you were born
1:44well remember that this is the signs of
1:47the zodiac those twelve constellations
1:49the Sun seems to pass in front of thing
1:51is there's already a fair number of
1:53problems for one thing we divide them
1:55evenly and really the constellations are
1:58not all the same size also if you look
2:00at the zodiac you're should see that
2:03there's actually a thirteenth zodiac
2:04that could technically be added and
2:06people argued it should be but whatever
2:09but also just simply remember that those
2:11constellations are not actually
2:13crew pings of stars we saw this last
2:15week these stars can be incredible
2:17different distances from each other
2:19these does happen to be like stars that
2:22are in the same general direction and
2:24really the constellations are just ways
2:26for us to organize and give an overview
2:29of what part of the sky were looking at
2:31but let's say you do like the idea of
2:34those Sun signs the thing is again this
2:38was developed over 2,000 years ago and
2:40the zodiac was developed and certain
2:44times of the year were lined up with the
2:46zodiac where the Sun was but we just
2:48talked a little earlier about precession
2:50the North Pole the North celestial pole
2:53progressing across the sky across 26,000
2:58years it's changing so where our
3:00constellations are changes so in the
3:03past 2,000 years the zodiac has changed
3:06the zodiac has actually been shifted by
3:09about 1/12
3:11so the zodiac signs no longer are the
3:14zodiac signs that the astrologers say
3:17and because this was never accounted for
3:19so when people say you are a certain
3:22thing maybe you are a Leo maybe you're a
3:25Virgo no no that wouldn't even from the
3:29standpoint of astrology wouldn't even
3:31make sense anymore
3:32because you'd actually be a different
3:34sign because the Sun would have been in
3:36front of a different constellation
3:38because again of precession in two
3:39thousand years it's now 112 over you're
3:43actually shifting all the signs which
3:44they haven't bothered to do because you
3:47know well it's not valid actually and
3:50this has been shown time and time again
3:51thing is with anything scientists tend
3:55to test
3:55I mean if stralla G is gonna make
3:57predictions we are going to test it
3:59you're gonna have a lot of different
4:01scientists seeing is there any validity
4:03because who knows maybe somehow it could
4:06turns out no it doesn't there's been
4:09numerous tests done they take big pools
4:13of people collect their data and look at
4:15is there any correlations between their
4:18people and their signs they've looked at
4:21personality success rates they've looked
4:23at like people in government if they
4:26would be more
4:26correlated towards one type of sign nope
4:29evenly spread randomly throughout the
4:31signs they've done your book talks about
4:33a few different studies they've done
4:35there's never been any supporting
4:37evidence do not please base your life
4:41and your decisions on things like
4:43horoscopes Sun signs its hokum it's not
4:48true it's not science it's not been
4:50shown to have any validity if you're
4:53just doing it for fun
4:54great but don't you shouldn't take it
4:57seriously because there is no validity
4:59to it it's never been shown
