0:00When people say that you are the
0:02greatest pianist of this century, do you
0:04believe them?
0:05>> I don't you
0:06No, I do not believe them, but I get
0:09very angry when I hear that because it
0:11is absolute sheer horrible nonsense.
0:14There isn't such a thing as the greatest
0:16pianist of any time of anyone nor
0:19anything. Nothing in art can be the
0:21best. It is only different. I don't
0:24think that an artist, whatever it is, a
0:26painter, sculptor, musician, performer,
0:29composer, any
0:30somebody who has the title of being an
0:32artist of the having to do with art must
0:35have an unconfoundable personality. They
0:39must be the one and nobody else. For me,
0:42if one says, "Oh, he plays, you know,
0:44it's a second Liszt or second Paderewski
0:47or second a second is is already wrong,
0:50you know. If he's a second, he's no good
0:52at all. He's an imitator. An artist in
0:55any way must be alone, a world by
0:58himself.
