Introduction

0:00At this point in time, there is like 40

0:01million dictation apps out there, but

0:03like which one is actually the best one?

0:05So, let's talk about that. So, this is

0:07the no BS guide to what the best

0:09dictation app is. Now, full disclosure,

0:12I have actually built a dictation app

0:13myself, so I think I'm in a good

0:16position to tell you what the best one

0:17is, and I'm not going to say which one

0:19is mine. I'm not even going to give you

0:21a ranking. I'm just going to compare

0:22them super objectively. But, let's get

0:25right into it and find out which one is

0:27the best one. So, these are our

0:29contenders have them all installed over

Our contenders: Wispr, Voicy, Superwhisper, Typless, Aqua, Willow

0:31here. We have Whisper Flow, Voicey,

0:34Typeless, Aqua Voice, Super Whisper, and

0:36Willow Voice. Now, there's a ton of

0:39other ones out there as well, but I

0:40don't really think you have to look

0:41further than these six. And the biggest

0:44reason for that is that a lot of stuff

0:46doesn't actually matter. So, the things

0:47that people talk about in other videos

0:49such as the accuracy and the features, I

Why accuracy doesn't matter (OpenAI Whisper API)

0:50don't think they matter. All of these

0:52apps are the exact same thing, and let

0:54me explain why. So, the reason why it's

0:57called Whisper Flow or Super Whisper or

1:01Whisper Notes or something else is

1:03because they all use the same

1:05speech-to-text model, which is OpenAI's

1:08Whisper API. So, in terms of accuracy,

1:11same thing. I can promise you it is the

1:13exact same thing. If you have better

1:16results with one of them than the other,

1:18really it's just luck. Same thing. And

Why features often don't matter

1:21then secondly, features. So, all of them

1:24also have the same exact features, and

1:26if one of them doesn't have the latest

1:28feature that someone else introduced,

1:30that feature is going to get built next

1:31week. It's a super competitive space.

1:33But like in terms of the basic features,

1:35you obviously have the dictation, and

1:37secondly, you have the automatic

1:38formatting, which everyone offers. And

1:40if you don't know what that is, it's

1:41just something like when you speak out

1:43an email, it will format it as an email.

1:45Let me just give you an example. Hi Tom,

1:47how are you doing? Do you want to meet

1:48up for a coffee tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.?

Who has the best design? (Spoiler: All the same)

1:50Please let me know. All the best,

1:51Koresh. So, this was obviously an email,

1:54and rather than just putting it into a

1:55block of text, we have it here formatted

1:57as an email. All of these apps offer it.

2:00So, don't look at accuracy, don't look

2:02at features. Oh, by the way, from apart

2:04from having the same accuracy, all of

2:05these apps also basically look exactly

2:07the same if you look at the pictures

2:09here of what each app looks like.

What matters (Price, Availability, Company)

2:12Here are the things that actually

2:13matter. It's about price, of course, the

2:16availability, so on which platforms can

2:19you use each app? And finally, like who

2:22do you want to support? What kind of

2:23company do you want to support? So,

2:25let's get started with the price. So,

2:28good luck to you for us, no one here is

2:30actually that original. So, everyone

2:31kind of has the same price on a scale.

2:34So, we have the couple of apps that are

Pricing of all apps (Monthly/Yearly split)

2:36all $15 a month and $144 per year. That

2:39is Whisper Flow and that is Willow

2:42Voice. Then, we have Aqua, which is at

2:45$10 a month and $96 a year. And then, we

2:48have the cheapest options or the most

2:50affordable options, which are Voicy and

2:52Super Whisper at $8.49 per month or $82

2:56per year or $84 per year. All of them

2:59offer a student discount as well. I

3:02think Super Whisper has the best student

3:03discount and Voicy offers a disability

3:06discount. So, if you have any kind of

3:07disability, you get 20% off. Now, here

3:10we have Typeless, who is $144 a year but

3:14$30 a month, which I personally find

3:16insane. Just I just find it ludicrous to

3:19pay this price when everything else on

3:21the market is so much lower. And because

3:24of that, we're getting rid of Typeless

3:26in this entire video and I am deleting

3:28Typeless from my computer. Like, no,

3:31thank you. It's too much. So, in terms

3:33of the price verdict, the best prices

3:35are for Voicy and Super Whisper, both of

3:37them around $8 a month and $80 a year.

3:40Then, in the middle, we have Aqua, which

3:42is $10 a month and $96 a year. And then,

3:46we have the meh I didn't want to call

3:47them the worst because, to be honest, I

3:49think the price that Whisper Flow and

3:51Willow charge, which is $15 a month and

3:54$144 per year, is still fine. None of

3:57them are as insane as Typeless' pricing.

4:00So, yeah, if you really care about

4:01price, here's the ranking. There you go.

4:03By the way, I forgot to put this in the

4:05video, but I don't think any of these

4:06apps offer a proper free tier that is

4:09usable, except maybe Super Whisper. All

4:11of them will give you a couple thousand

4:12words for free for a week, for a month,

4:14or whatever, but if you're serious about

4:16dictation, you will definitely reach

4:18that limit. So, it's less of a free tier

4:20and more of a taster. With Super

4:22Whisper, you do get a free tier, but

4:24it's only for models that you run

4:26locally on your computer, which means

4:28they're going to be less accurate, and

4:29you're not going to get the AI features

4:32that all of the other apps offer. So,

4:34nah, sorry about that. These apps do

4:36cost money.

4:37By the way, uh Voicey and Super Whisper

4:39both offer lifetime options if you don't

4:41want to pay a monthly subscription. Also

4:43kind of priced around the same thing.

Availability on Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, Linux

4:45Let's continue. Let's talk about the

4:47availability. So, this is really

4:49important depending on the types of

4:51devices you use. We're going to talk

4:53about the major platforms, so there's

4:54Mac, Windows, iOS, iPhone, and Android.

4:59Good thing is that most of them offer

5:01Mac and Windows, actually everyone

5:02offers Mac and Windows. Everyone offers

5:05iPhone as well, but only WhisperFlow and

5:08Voicey offer Android. And then Voicey

5:10also offers Linux, but uh I don't think

5:13that's as important over here. So, if

5:16you are an Android user and you really

5:19want this dictation on Android as well,

5:21it's WhisperFlow and Voicey. Though I'm

5:23again 100% sure that all of the other

5:25ones will start offering Android at some

5:27point as well. Now, finally, and then

5:30this video is basically done, just 5-6

5:33minutes. Let's talk about who you want

5:34to support. So, there's a couple of

Who do you want to support?

5:37independent apps on this list, and then

5:39there's a couple of behemoths on this

5:40list. So, the difference is that Voicey

5:44and Super Whisper are independently run.

5:46They're not backed by venture capital.

5:48They don't have to get crazy returns on

5:51the money that they got and they're just

5:53owned by business owners, right? Like

5:55they don't have to do high growth stuff.

5:57They're in it for the love of the game.

5:59But now we have the other ones which are

6:01Whisper Flow, Aqua, and Willow. So

6:03Whisper Flow by far has raised the most

6:06which is $80 million.

6:08Then there's Aqua with 2 million and

6:09Willow with 5 million. So what does this

6:11actually mean? These companies have

6:13gotten the money to grow super fast.

6:16Growing super fast comes with a couple

6:18of problems which is of course

6:20of not availability but like

6:22reliability. If you're growing super

6:23quickly, stuff can break quite easily.

6:26And if you're growing super quickly,

6:28support doesn't become amazing. So like

6:31they constantly have to hire more

6:32support people or they've just gone

6:34straight ahead to like AI based support.

6:36With independent companies like Voicey

6:38and Super Whisper that don't grow as

6:39fast, you can probably be sure that A,

Final Verdict and Outro

6:42the support is going to be better and

6:44it's going to be more reliable unless

6:45one of them suddenly gets like 2 million

6:47users overnight. So which brings us to

6:51the end of this video. If you're caring

6:53about price, go with Voicey or Super

6:55Whisper. If you care about availability,

6:58go with Whisper Flow or Voicey. I mean

7:00only if you're on Android, otherwise all

7:02of them totally fine. And if you

7:04honestly just prefer the design of an

7:06app like Aqua or Willow, give them a

7:07try. In my opinion, Aqua has the best

7:09design. Then we get to Willow and then

7:11the other ones are out there as well.

7:14But yeah, that is a pretty no BS guide.

7:17Uh links to all of the products are in

7:18the description below.

7:20You make your decision. I again haven't

7:22mentioned which one mine is but like I

7:23guess you can tell from the title of my

7:26channel. But I hope this video was

7:28useful to you. Bye. Bye-bye. See you.
