0:05if you're like me after you saw a Meet
0:07the Parents you wanted to teach your cat
0:10how to use the toilet Meet Leonardo
0:12Miagi his friends call him Leo and
0:15really only some of his karate students
0:17call him Mr Miagi Leo is going to show
0:20you how to potty train your cat and for
0:22you Advanced students you might as well
0:24get them to flush
0:26too before you get started you're going
0:29to need some supplies the most important
0:31is Cap treats if Leo wasn't motivated
0:34this never would have worked so I had to
0:36find something he loved next you're
0:38going to need a dog training clicker
0:40available at most pet stores this makes
0:42a distinctive sound that helps bridge
0:44the gap between Leo doing something
0:46successfully and the
0:47reward I use City Kitty for the actual
0:50training now Step One is switching from
0:53regular litter to flushable litter wait
0:55at least 2 weeks after you switch to
0:57move his litter box from its usual spot
0:59if you want to go all out and install a
1:01cat friendly flusher or some goo on
1:04these Search terms and the one I use
1:06should be the first one to come
1:11up at this point I have switched Leo to
1:14flushable litter and I'm waiting the
1:16minimum 2 weeks before I move his litter
1:18box in the meantime I started on step
1:20two introducing the clicker Leo had to
1:23know that after hearing the click he
1:25earned a treat click treat click treat
1:28you can't do this too many times
1:30something to keep in mind is that there
1:32is nothing I could do to guarantee that
1:34he would be successful in his training
1:37the only thing I can guarantee is that
1:38by going too fast he would fail slow
1:41steady progress is better than ambitious
1:46failure most normal cats don't go
1:49anywhere near the toilet step three is
1:52introducing Leo to the toilet you want
1:54him so comfortable up there that when
1:56you walk into the bathroom he follows
1:58you and jumps up there to earn a treat
2:01to start off I had to place Leo up there
2:03with the lid closed then immediately
2:06click and treat him make him do the
2:09action then click treat action click
2:12treat action click treat I did this
2:15several times a day be prepared for your
2:18friends and family to say that your cat
2:20is training
2:23you at first I had to place Leo up on
2:26the toilet but eventually he learned
2:28that wherever I tap that that's where I
2:30wanted him to
2:40go continuing step three after about a
2:43week I started to Place Leo on the
2:45toilet with the seat up action click
2:48treat is the name of the game from this
2:51point forward Place him up on the toilet
2:54click then treat you can train your cat
2:57to do anything with this method because
2:59I was doing doing this several times a
3:00day I did not give Leo treats at any
3:03other time than when we were training
3:05this gave him extra motivation to want
3:07to train and he didn't get too fat
3:09either after Leo was comfortable
3:11standing up there I used the treat to
3:14lure him into standing squatting over
3:16the toilet all the previous steps have
3:18been leading up to this once he learned
3:21how Leo would not get a treat until he
3:23stood squatting over the toilet you
3:26should now start staying a command to
3:29associate with his action say go potty
3:32lure him into position click then
3:40treat step four is moving the litter box
3:44into the bathroom right next to the
3:45toilet I also place the city Kitty into
3:48the toilet to give him the choice of
3:49which one he wanted to use I would leave
3:51less and less litter in the litter box
3:53until when day he used the city Kitty
3:56immediately after he realized this was a
3:57viable option I removed the litter
4:03box now that you're on step five your
4:06cat is using the toilet
4:09congratulations City Kitt is designed
4:11with rings that are meant to be removed
4:13as your cat
4:14progresses once you remove a ring this
4:17can to be very stressful for your cat
4:20once your cat's comfortable with the
4:21next stage tack on another two weeks
4:24before you remove another
4:28ring oh
4:40yeah oh she's B I don't you
4:44[Applause]
4:53[Music]
4:54understand Leo did not like the idea of
4:57losing the last ring entirely so we
4:59tapered them off slowly removing the
5:02first quarter at the front going down to
5:05half leaving him with a final tiny
5:07quarter before removing it completely
5:10City Kitty also comes with a backup set
5:13so you can revert back to an earlier
5:15step if
5:20necessary Leo is not a professionally
5:22trained cat he's a 2-year-old rescue
5:25that we adopted recently he's come a
5:27long way though and in Step six he's
5:30going to show you how to flush take the
5:32wireless sensor that came with the auto
5:34flusher and lay it down flat take his
5:38paw and press it onto the sensor click
5:41treat
5:50repeat adding the flush after the
5:52squatting routine will get your cat used
5:54to Flushing after using the toilet I
5:57don't practice flushing unless he has
5:58already been on the the toilet I also
6:01wait until the flush sound before
6:03clicking that way in case it doesn't
6:05work he knows he has to keep trying to
6:07make it flush placing the sensor up high
6:10where he can see the flush will help
6:12your cat realize they're not leaving a
6:14mess there all day and when I catch Leo
6:17actually using the toilet I tell him
6:19he's doing a great job and not only does
6:21he get Treats but lots of attention and
6:23infection as
6:24well
