0:00Krispy Kreme is finally closing down ,
0:01especially the Glazed Doughnut famous
0:02for its diet-ruining reputation . But
0:04strangely enough , I’ve never seen a
0:05physical store on the street ; why is
0:06that ? It turns out they’ve been
0:07closing stores recently . The truth is ,
0:09for Koreans , donuts are ...
0:09We know they’re delicious , but once a
0:11year is enough .
0:11You only really crave them once in a
0:13while , and rent in Korea was absurdly
0:14high compared to store sales . The
0:16headquarters eventually changed its
0:17strategy entirely ; after closing its
0:18symbolic first Asian branch in Sincheon
0:19, they began shrinking the number of
0:21stores . Recently , they even blocked new
0:22franchise startups .
0:23What is this ? What’s going on ?
0:24They’ve been installing donut vending
0:25machines like crazy in subway stations ,
0:27stocking them with fresh donuts , while
0:28keeping only a few large production
0:29plants and minimal stores .
0:30They switched to free delivery . By
0:31matching the store prices and
0:32eliminating delivery fees , they removed
0:34any reason for people to go to the
0:35store , and if you microwave them for 8
0:36seconds at home , the sugar melts and
0:38hardens , tasting like a fresh donut ; so
0:39while the number of stores has
0:40decreased , paradoxically , sales have
0:42been rising for three years . Yeah .
