0:00three says this. It says, "And the
0:01tempter came
0:03and said to him, if you are the son of
0:06God, command these stones to become
0:11bread."
0:12And the tempter came.
0:15He said to him, "If you are the son of
0:16God, command these stones to become
0:19bread." I want to put a tag on this text
0:21and teach for a few minutes from this
0:23topic. On the way down to your seat,
0:25just shout, "Counter moves."
0:26>> Counter moves.
0:27>> Yeah, you may have your seats in the
0:29house. counter moves one more time cuz
0:31it sound good in here. If you're ready
0:32for a word, say, "Oh yeah."
0:34>> Oh yeah.
0:35>> Family, for the past few weeks, we've
0:37been journeying through this this series
0:39of chess, not checkers. And and really
0:42what we've been literally talking
0:44through, I just ghosted it a little bit,
0:46but this series is in theological
0:48circles known as a series on the
0:51omniscience of God. The omniscience of
0:54God in the in that that is the idea.
0:56Omniscience, right? What's that? the
0:58it's the idea that God is all knowing.
1:01He knows it all. Right? As a matter of
1:03fact, uh there's a thought that's been
1:06giving me a headache all week because I
1:08just been thinking through it and trying
1:09to unpack it and and it's been driving
1:12me insane uh all week. So, I figured I
1:14might as well give you a headache since
1:15I had to deal with one all week.
1:18Uh and it's not deep or anything like
1:20that, but to me at least, it's profound.
1:22Let's chase it down a little bit. And
1:23that thought is this. Nothing has ever
1:27occurred to God.
1:30Nothing has ever occurred to God. That
1:34that God is so supremely omnisient that
1:37he possesses complete,
1:40unlimited and universal
1:43knowledge. This is extremely important.
1:45Great writer, author, pastor RC Sproul
1:48says this. He says, watch this. There
1:50has never been and never will be any
1:53information that is new to God.
1:57Just trip on that for a moment. There
1:59has never been and never will be any
2:03information that is new to God. I like
2:06that because God is never shocked. He's
2:09never surprised. He's never startled.
2:11He's never shook. And he's never
2:13scrambling.
2:15God God is never surprised. Never
2:16shocked. Never startled. never shook and
2:19he's never scrambling. God has never
2:22said, this is what messed me up. God has
2:24never said, "Oh, I didn't see that
2:26happening."
2:29God has never said, "I didn't see that
2:31coming."
2:32God has, watch this. This messed me up.
2:36So, I'm going to mess y'all up, too.
2:37Just think about this. God has never had
2:40to adjust because he overlooked
2:43something.
2:45God is so omnisient. Watch this. That he
2:48never learns and still knows everything.
2:54I It just gave me a headache, y'all. I'm
2:57trying I'm trying to wrap my mind around
2:59the fact that he never has to learn
3:01because he already knows whatever he
3:03might whatever we ever have to learn.
3:06He's all knowing. His memory is never
3:09maxed out. His storage is always filled
3:13with surplus. His cognition is
3:16countless. Nothing has ever occurred to
3:20God. Conversely, with us though, we got
3:22to deal with the reality. The reality is
3:24that we, however, are always in a state
3:28of discovery. Just roll with me for a
3:29moment. We're going somewhere. We're
3:31always in a state of discovery. We're
3:33always in a state of trying to figure
3:34out what's next.
3:36We're always trying to figure out, God,
3:38what are you doing now? And God, what do
3:41you want to do next? Like some of us are
3:43there, right? We're always in that
3:44space. And that's cool, right? But God
3:46is not like us. Can I just brag on God
3:48for a moment?
3:49>> I'm just bragging on God. So what I'm
3:51simply suggesting is that God, watch
3:53this, governs our lives like a chess
3:56master and not with a checker's
4:00mentality.
4:01Because God sees every move, every
4:05possibility, every consequence, every
4:08heart. Peep this. Every motive, every
4:12pattern in every here we go. every
4:15potential problem.
4:18So, I guess what I'm saying is that God
4:19doesn't have to learn anything. He
4:20doesn't need to gather more information.
4:22God never needs to do more research
4:25before he acts. Just just bragging on
4:28the omniscience of God. So, so here's
4:30some news that I think you could use. If
4:32in fact God is all knowing and he is, if
4:35in fact God is all powerful and he is,
4:38if in fact he is eternal and he is, then
4:41that must mean that um that that time is
4:44no match for a God who stands outside of
4:47it.
4:50Trouble is no match to a God that
4:53wrapped himself in flesh and came down
4:56to live in it.
4:58Terror is no match to a God that didn't
5:01give us the spirit of fear. And peep
5:04this, temptation is no match to a God
5:06that overcame it. All I'm simp y'all
5:09stay with me. All I'm tripping on is the
5:12fact that time cannot limit him. Trouble
5:16cannot intimidate him. Temptation cannot
5:20trap him. Trauma cannot surprise him.
5:24And trials cannot exhaust him. Now, the
5:27reason you should have been shouting and
5:29moving your seat and pulling your
5:32neighbor's wig off is because if you
5:34have,
5:39>> if in fact these things are true, and
5:42they are, then that must mean if I have
5:45the same power of God on the inside of
5:48me, then that must mean whatever I'm in
5:50the middle of is no match for me. If I
5:54have the spirit of GOD ON THE INSIDE OF
5:56ME, THEN THAT MEAN trauma can't take me
5:58out. That mean trouble can't end me. And
6:02that means that storms can't stop me.
6:04Look at somebody and say, "The storm is
6:06going to end before you do."
6:08>> Oh yeah. I thought that was a good place
6:10to put a praise right there. That that
6:12if you have the spirit of God on the
6:14inside of you, then you can overcome
6:17what seems like obstacles to others. And
6:20Jesus is proof positive of that
6:22principle because Jesus shows us all
6:25throughout scripture. Jesus shows us
6:27what it looks like to operate when you
6:30have multiple moves ahead of what's in
6:33front of you. In our text, little
6:35context just so that you can respect the
6:37content. Uh in our text, what we see is
6:39we see Satan uh we see a savior and we
6:42see a strategy.
6:44In our text, we see Satan, we see a
6:46savior, and we see a strategy. Because
6:48watch this, success in life in any area
6:52is going to require a strategy. Right?
6:55So if if in fact we want to be
6:57successful in an area, Jesus is getting
7:00ready to show us that success in any in
7:03any area of life requires a strategy.
7:06Right? So let me give you a little
7:08context. Jesus has just now come out of
7:11the uh Matthew 3 Jordan River. Right? So
7:14this is Jesus's baptism. Jesus's
7:17baptism. And uh John the Baptist
7:20baptizes Jesus in Matthew 3. Heavens
7:23open up. The heavens the heavens. The
7:25heaven. There we go. The heavens. The
7:27the heaven. The heaven. The heavens open
7:29up. The spirit descended like a dove.
7:33Then the father publicly affirms Jesus.
7:36Hang on to that. The father publicly
7:38affirms Jesus and says that this is my
7:40beloved son in whom I'm well pleased.
7:44Now that's Matthew 3. Matthew 3. The
7:46heavens open up. Jesus is baptized.
7:48Voice from heaven. This is my beloved
7:51son in whom I'm well pleased. Right? I
7:52love that. Now, now this momentous
7:55occasion, this this baptism of G, don't
7:59ever forget Matthew 3. You, the baptism
8:04of Jesus should be etched into our
8:06brains forever. Now that that's etched
8:10into our brains, let's look at Matthew
8:114. Verse number 1 and 2 says this.
8:13Matthew 4:1-2 says, "After that, then
8:16Jesus was led by the spirit into the
8:19wilderness to be tempted there by the
8:21devil.
8:23For 40 days and for 40 nights, he fasted
8:25and became hungry."
8:28Okay. Matthew 3, y'all with me?
8:31Amazing,
8:33momentous
8:35instance.
8:37Matthew 4, then Jesus
8:41was led by the spirit.
8:44I don't like that.
8:48I I don't like that because watch this.
8:50You and I when we ask the spirit to lead
8:52us, most of us
8:56are not going to
8:59when I'm saying, "Lord, lead and guide
9:01me." In my mind, I'm thinking that he's
9:05going to lead me in the green pastures.
9:09>> Right? Just be honest. Look, Lord, I
9:10need you to lead me. Which way to go?
9:12Which direction? Right? In our minds,
9:15what we're really saying is, God, lead
9:17us into the best possible scenario, the
9:20best poss
9:22y'all that deep that y'all be praying.
9:24Okay. All right. All right.
9:27SO, I DON'T LIKE HOW THE TEXT SAYS,
9:30"Then Jesus
9:32was led
9:35by the spirit." Wait,
9:38not my spirit.
9:42Not my holy spirit. Not my holy spirit.
9:45You are welcome here. Fly this place and
9:48feel the at your glory. God is what our
9:50heart for that that spirit spirit lead
9:54me where my trust is without borders.
9:58You're like let me walk upon y'all just
10:00all flowery
10:02wherever you may call me.
10:06Take me deep. You like oh god I love it.
10:09We think that deeper is like a cruise.
10:11Like we're just on a cruise line, right?
10:14Then Jesus
10:17>> was led
10:20>> by the spirit. This the part I don't
10:23like.
10:24Into the wilderness,
10:29>> you mean tell me I've been praying to
10:31God all this time
10:34to lead me
10:36>> and this the ONLY PLACE YOU GOT TO TAKE
10:38ME?
10:40COME ON, MAN. LET'S LET'S LET'S TALK
10:43STRAIGHT. THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE YOU CAN
10:45TAKE ME. WILDERNESS VALLEY.
10:49The text says after Matthew 3,
10:52Jesus was led in the wilderness. Led by
10:54the spirit, God into the wilderness,
10:59not into comfort,
11:01not into applause,
11:03but into isolation.
11:08Okay. The not into comfort,
11:13not into applause and affirmation,
11:18>> but into isolation.
11:21>> The spirit led me. The reason that this
11:24is important is it gives us this
11:26principle that the wilderness is not
11:29always proof that God left you.
11:32Sometimes it's proof that God is leading
11:34you.
11:38Sometimes the wilderness IS PROOF THAT
11:42GOD IS WITH YOU.
11:45>> SEE, we've been fed like not y'all, but
11:49I've, you know, we've been fed this
11:52version of Jesus that is like
11:57so opposite of what we see in scripture.
12:02And um
12:04sometimes the God of the Bible will
12:08intentionally put us in problematic
12:11situations,
12:12>> right?
12:14>> Did Did Yeah. Uhhuh. Yeah.
12:19Jesus was led
12:22into the wilderness,
12:24right? Because why is that important?
12:26Great question.
12:29It's important because the wilderness is
12:30where God strips you. Or let me say it
12:33like this. The wilderness is where God
12:34strips distraction and sharpens
12:36discernment.
12:40It's where God strips distraction
12:45and sharpens discernment. In the
12:47wilderness, it's just you.
12:51>> You and God.
12:54God is like, "I've been trying to speak
12:56to you for two years.
12:58Wow.
13:00>> But but it's too noisy around you.
13:05>> Yeah. Yeah. God is like, "I've been
13:07TRYING TO COMMUNICATE. IT'S NOT THAT I'M
13:10NOT SPEAKING." He's like, "I am. I'm
13:13just not going to yell over all of your
13:15distractions."
13:16>> That's good. That's right. That's good.
13:18>> Are y'all here?
13:19>> Yeah.
13:20>> So God says, "So what I got to do is I
13:23love us. I love you so much. What I'm
13:25going to do is I'm going to pull you out
13:27of everything that might be distracting
13:29you
13:30>> and I'm gonna isolate you so I can get
13:32to you.
13:34>> Now, it takes maturity to see that God
13:37pulling me is not God punishing me.
13:42>> It takes matur
13:44spiritual maturity to see THAT WHEN GOD
13:47IS PULLING ME, HE'S preparing me. What
13:50is he preparing me for? I don't see it.
13:52we wouldn't see it because we're now
13:54omniscient.
13:57>> So if GOD OH IF GOD is pulling me then
14:01that must mean he's getting ME PREPARED
14:03FOR WHAT he already has prepared for me.
14:09the spirit
14:11led
14:13uh him out into the wilderness.
14:17Um
14:18dry,
14:20silent,
14:22isolated,
14:24no crowds, no disciples,
14:27no miracles yet. Watch this. Just Jesus
14:33and his appetite.
14:35>> My God.
14:37Good.
14:38>> The text says
14:40>> 40 days,
14:4240 nights. AND IF THE TEXT OH, GOD.
14:45Don't go to a church where they don't
14:47SAY THE TEXT. THE TEXT says
14:50Jesus was hungry.
14:53Some of y'all, that's the first part of
14:54the sermon you said amen to.
14:57Y'all sitting there like, "Amen. I'm
15:00hungry."
15:03G. The text says, the text says verse
15:06number two, 40 days. Y'all say 40.
15:09>> 40.
15:10>> 40 nights. Y'all say 40.
15:12>> 40.
15:13>> He fasted. Lord have mercy. And became
15:16hungry. Some of y'all. 40 days.
15:21>> 40 minutes.
15:24I'M HUNGRY NOW, PASTOR.
15:29JESUS, you know YOU'RE THE SAVIOR. 40
15:31DAYS. ALL RIGHT.
15:3440 days, 40 nights
15:37he fasted and became hungry. I love the
15:41word. Watch this.
15:44Nothing there in this wilderness space
15:46but Jesus
15:48and his appetite.
15:51So now we got to deal with this because
15:53maybe the reason that God pulls us into
15:57isolation is so that he can deal with
16:00our appetite.
16:08Okay. All right. Jesus is showing us
16:12Jesus is showing us that if you DON'T
16:16DEAL WITH YOUR APPETITE,
16:18>> the devil will use your appetite to deal
16:21with you.
16:22>> YOU'RE RIGHT ABOUT IT.
16:23>> IT'S QUIET.
16:26>> You're right about it.
16:28He Let me say that one more again for
16:30the people in the back and the people in
16:32the chat. JESUS IS SHOWING US THAT IF
16:36YOU DON'T DEAL WITH YOUR APPETITE,
16:39the devil will use your appetite to deal
16:42with you.
16:45So, I GOT TO PULL YOU ASIDE
16:48because for where you're going, YOU'RE
16:50GOING TO NEED TO BE PREPARED TO HANDLE
16:52YOUR FLESH.
16:56It's quiet. Okay. Um, somebody say
17:00appetite.
17:01>> Appetite.
17:02>> All right. Let's go there. See if I get
17:04in trouble. I know you can't talk, but
17:06can you fight? Cuz I know your voice is
17:08out. You can throw punches. All right.
17:09Cuz I'm going to need some backup right
17:10here.
17:14The devil. Jesus is basically is is
17:17essentially showing us that the devil
17:18will use our appetite to deal with us.
17:20Watch this. And there's a difference
17:22between DEALING
17:24WITH MY APPETITE,
17:26my appetite being dormant,
17:30and me being delivered.
17:34>> Dealing
17:36dormant
17:38>> and delivered.
17:40>> Dealing with my Okay, y'all are okay.
17:43Can you dealing with my appetite? Is
17:45this God? You gonna have to help me with
17:46this. I like it. You know I like it.
17:51They know I like it. Huh? It's quiet.
17:56Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. God, I'm putting this
17:58on the altar
18:00>> because I already know me.
18:03>> You around here smelling good. Lord
18:05help.
18:07>> You ever walked by somebody and said,
18:08"Jesus, they smell good."
18:12>> You ever seen something? Can I be You
18:15ever seen somebody say, "My God,
18:17>> my God.
18:20The Lord is my shepherd.
18:22>> He know what I want.
18:29>> You don't say anything. Look straight at
18:30me cuz I don't want you telling
18:31yourself. Just look at me. HAVE YOU EVER
18:35SAID, "GOD, I NEED YOU TO HELP ME WITH
18:37MY APPETITE.
18:38>> I LIKE STUFF I SHOULDN'T LIKE."
18:43AMEN.
18:44>> YOU KNOW, my wife
18:46is uh you know, so if you've been at the
18:50church for any stretch of time, then you
18:53know this to be true that God has
18:54anointed me to eat chocolate chip
18:56cookies uh every night. Yeah. No. No.
18:59It's in the word
19:02and and not those chips aoy stuff y'all
19:05buying prepackaged. God ain't in that.
19:07That's blasphemy.
19:09What you have to do is you have to get
19:11the dough
19:13>> and you have to roll the dough and then
19:17you put them in the
19:22right
19:24>> you put them in the oven.
19:27>> Okay.
19:28>> And um you you cook them.
19:31>> Yeah.
19:31>> You don't cook them all the way done.
19:33See, I need to see what a real You cook
19:36them till THEY'RE ALMOST DONE. OH MY
19:39GOD.
19:41AND YOU
19:43GOT YOU GOT TO PULL THEM OUT THE OVEN
19:45AND YOU GOT TO LET THEM COOL DOWN.
19:51>> You and here's the thing. Here's the
19:55thing here. Here's the problem I have
19:56with my wife. This is my counseling
19:59session. The problem I have is she look
20:02at me and she's like, "Bae,
20:05now that don't make no sense.
20:08Do you know what time it is? 11:00. You
20:12don't need cookies at 11:00.
20:15I said, I do. I do need them. No, you
20:18don't. You just think you need them.
20:24>> That's good.
20:29>> You You have You have so conditioned
20:32yourself.
20:34That's good.
20:35>> TO GET THIS THING
20:37NOW, HERE I AM CHALLENGING YOU. YOU
20:39DON'T WANT TO hear me. NOW, I'M TRYING
20:41TO HELP YOU.
20:43It's quiet. It's Jesus in the
20:46wilderness. And it's just him and his
20:49appetite.
20:51Nobody else around. Jesus
20:55and his appetite. So, I got to deal with
20:56whether or not it's deal am I dealing
20:58with it? Is this something that I'm
21:00bringing before God? Is it is it am I
21:03delivered from it? Is this something I
21:05look back and say, "God, thank you for
21:07bringing me through it by your grace."
21:09Right?
21:11Or is it something that's dormant?
21:13Now, there's a difference between
21:16delivered and dormant.
21:17>> Yeah.
21:19>> So, when something is dormant, it's
21:22still alive. It's just sleep.
21:26>> The right opportunity hadn't woken it up
21:28yet.
21:32>> Are y'all here? Let me take these
21:34glasses off so because I can y'all y'all
21:36hide behind meta.
21:40Dor dormant dormant dormant dormant
21:42dormant dormant. It is it is it has it
21:46just not been woken up? Okay. I I've
21:49been having a headache thinking about
21:51all of these things all week. Um and
21:54like I I I thought about this this this
21:56third this this phrase peep this and
21:58it's called
22:00anesticized appetites.
22:03Don't don't don't trip on the $2 word.
22:05You know, when something is under
22:06anesthesia, it's anesticized, right? So
22:09So an anesticized appetite is is our
22:12desires that don't kill just silence the
22:15noise. So So watch this. It is it is it
22:19is some stuff we have not eliminated
22:23yet.
22:25We just put it to sleep.
22:29And um
22:30are y'all right? Let me get everybody
22:32pause. Breathe. Everybody just Okay,
22:37let me just keep going. All right.
22:38Romans 8:13 says this. If if you're
22:41still here, you're glutton for pain.
22:42Here it goes. Romans 8:13. It's not on
22:45the screen, but write that down. For if
22:47you are living in accord with the flesh,
22:51YOU ARE GOING to die.
22:54>> That's the word. But if by the spirit
22:57you are putting to death the deeds of
23:01the body, you will live.
23:04Romans 8:13. I'm getting ready to run
23:06out of this church because you missed
23:09the first shout of this sermon.
23:13Romans 8:13.
23:15If you are living in accord with the
23:17flesh, you are going to die. Some people
23:18look at this scripture and say, you know
23:19what? Oh, that's that's rough. That's
23:21hard. But you got to keep reading.
23:24But if by the spirit you are putting,
23:33>> you are actively,
23:36intentionally,
23:38STRATEGICALLY
23:41>> DOING EVERYTHING WITHIN YOUR POWER BY
23:43GOD'S grace to deal with what you know
23:46you're hungry for,
23:49YOU WILL LIVE. NOW, I want the people
23:53that got enough belief that God is going
23:56to deal with some stuff to praise God
23:59for what you know you're dealing with
24:03and he's getting ready to deliver you
24:05from.
24:06>> Would you open your mouth
24:08>> and thank God?
24:09>> Thank you, God.
24:11>> I'll come back.
24:13>> It's okay.
24:14>> I'll come back.
24:16JESUS LED into the wilderness by the
24:20spirit
24:22and he hungry. And um and uh before he
24:27gets confronted
24:29by Satan,
24:31he he shows us a principle that what you
24:34don't confront,
24:37you confuse as conquered.
24:42Yeah.
24:43Yeah. Yeah. What you don't confront, you
24:45confuse as conquer. Um,
24:50uhoh. Most people think if I can just
24:52keep myself busy, then that would
24:54distract me from my appetite.
24:57That's anesticizing,
25:00not eliminating.
25:04It's quiet. So, here it is. Jesus
25:07physically depleted,
25:10but because of his intentional act to be
25:12physically depleted, he is spiritually
25:14sharp.
25:16So, Satan makes his move because he
25:18knows, oh, you know what? Let's go here.
25:20Let's go here. Let's go here. Because
25:22all all throughout this these last few
25:24weeks, we've been talking we've been
25:26talking about chess and um chess moves
25:28and and how to maneuver uh in life. And
25:31life is in many ways like the game of
25:33chess in that God is a grand chess
25:35master that he moves infinitely more
25:37moves ahead of us and he knows more than
25:40we do. His omniscience and we know all
25:42of that. But in chess there are moves.
25:44Peep this. And then there are counter
25:46moves.
25:48Stay with me. There are moves and then
25:51there are counter moves. A counter move
25:54is a calculated response that
25:57neutralizes the opponent's strategy
26:00while advancing your own position. So, a
26:04counter move is uh is is a calculated
26:08response that that wipes out what the
26:11opponent is trying to do. So, imagine if
26:14you're if you're boxing, you're watching
26:16boxing, there there's there's punches
26:18and then there's counter punches. So, so
26:20a boxer knows when a person throws this
26:22punch to do this and then throw the
26:24counter punch. Y'all saw that. Y'all saw
26:26that step right there. Don't run up in
26:28fresh church. I'm telling you, I might
26:30two-piece him. I might two-piece him. I
26:32promise you. So,
26:36what kind of CHURCH IS THIS? COUNT.
26:38SOMEBODY SAY COUNTER MOVES.
26:40>> COUNTER MOVES.
26:40>> SO, so any good chess player has to be
26:44prepared to be able to counter what
26:48might happen.
26:51Okay. Um All right. So Jesus shows us
26:55that no matter what the enemy throws at
26:57him, he always has a counter move. And
26:59let's look at it. The first move uh that
27:02Satan kind of unfolds uh in the text is
27:05I I I'll call it Satan's move, the the
27:07pressure of provision. This is watch
27:10this. This is the attack on identity and
27:14appetite.
27:16Ver verse number uh verse number three
27:18repeat what it says. And the tempter
27:20came and said to him, "If you are the
27:22son of God, uh command these stones to
27:26become bread." Let's deal with that. He
27:28says, "If you are the son of God,
27:30command these stones to become bread."
27:32If you are the the son of God, command
27:34these stones. Now, what's interesting is
27:36that I told you in Matthew 3 that the
27:38voice from heaven came down and said,
27:40"You are my son."
27:43And the first thing that Satan does is
27:46he gets to Jesus and he attacks Jesus in
27:48his identity. If you are
27:51>> Oh my God. Come on now.
27:53>> So the first place that the enemy would
27:55try to attack us is in our identity.
27:59>> So So peep this. Oh yeah. So peep this.
28:02That word if in the original language uh
28:05is not if as we know it. It's actually
28:08the word since.
28:10So the text really being really says
28:13since this is what Satan's saying since
28:15you are the son of God being
28:16condescending
28:18>> since you're the son the son of God then
28:21why don't you just turn these stones
28:24into
28:26some Red Lobster
28:28>> Cheddar
28:30>> Bay Texas Roadhouse
28:35>> collaboration.
28:37My god.
28:41I FELT THAT.
28:42>> HALLELUJAH.
28:46>> You seen that?
28:49>> Shut up.
28:51>> And then the butter from Texas row house
28:53because
28:59>> SINCE YOU ARE THE SON OF GOD,
29:03perform for me. My
29:09>> go do do do do do do do do do do do do
29:10do do do do do do do do do do do do do
29:10do do do do do do do do do do do do do
29:10do do do do do do do do do do do do do
29:10do do do do do do do do do do do do do
29:10do do do do do do do do do do do do do
29:10do do do do do do do do do do do do do
29:11do do do do do do do do do do do do
29:11something go ahead right so so so
29:15man this this is re the real move the
29:18real move here the real move that Satan
29:20is trying to employ is this prove
29:23yourself
29:26>> this is this is this is Satan's strategy
29:29even for some of us today to make it to
29:31where we feel like we always have to
29:33show our worth
29:35that we have to always walk in this this
29:37this almost pride and almost arrogance
29:40in terms of my value.
29:42This is where this is how toxic
29:44masculinity gets introduced.
29:47This is Are y'all here?
29:49>> Okay, I'm just making sure. So, so when
29:52when ge when Satan can't get Jesus's
29:56identity, he goes to Jesus's appetite.
30:01Now, here's the problem I have.
30:04Satan offers Jesus what he knows Jesus
30:07would want. So then that means
30:10temptation can't be something that you
30:12don't want. He can't tempt me with what
30:15tempts you.
30:20So uh
30:23Oh god, it's so much.
30:27Turn these stones into bread.
30:30Cheddar Bay, Texas Ro House because I
30:33know that's what you like. Um Um Hurry
30:38up and do it. Just go ahead. He's trying
30:42to trick Jesus into impulsivity.
30:45>> He's trying to trick him into being
30:47impulsive.
30:49>> Come on, y'all. He's trying He's trying
30:51to That That's one of the enemy's aim to
30:54get us to move quick. Come on.
30:57>> Come on. Right now. What? Come on. Let's
30:58go. Come on, take advantage right now.
31:01You going to try to buy something? Come
31:02on. You got to buy it now because it's
31:03going out of Come on, MAN.
31:06RIGHT. SO, IT'S IMPULSIVE. SO, SO, SO,
31:09SO, so watch this. He's he's he's trying
31:13to get Jesus to be impulsive.
31:19Because God, WHEN WE ARE STARVING FOR
31:23SOMETHING, there will always be a
31:25temptation to meet a legitimate need
31:29illegitimately.
31:34This is why if you're married, you got
31:36to always be on guard because you can
31:38have a legitimate need that needs to be
31:41met or you feel like it's not being met
31:42by your spouse. And what the enemy would
31:45do is try and get you to meet that
31:47legitimate need illegitimately.
31:51>> So now you go to somebody else to get
31:53what you don't want to work to get for
31:55in your own house.
31:57>> It's quiet.
32:00>> Let me get back over here then. I guess
32:03he he's
32:05temptation to meet a legitimate need
32:09illegitimately.
32:11Right. So this is the temptation for us
32:13might not be well yeah so so
32:17we got to deal with the impulsivity
32:22in our spirituality
32:24so this is what I was thinking this is
32:27fresh like repeat this so impuls
32:30impulsivity is not merely acting
32:32immediately
32:34it's acting ignorantly
32:39now when I say ignorant Take that as an
32:42attack. That's to not know something.
32:45>> That's what I'm talking about. Not
32:46ignorant. You know what I mean?
32:49Ignorant, right? We're not talking about
32:51is to not know. To not be aware. That's
32:54where we are. Aware of what? The
32:57consequences
32:58behind
33:00what the enemy is offering.
33:03So when we're impulsive,
33:06we are not aware that THERE'S SOMETHING
33:09ELSE ATTACHED to what the enemy is
33:11trying to get get to us.
33:16It's not merely acting immediately.
33:19It's acting ignorantly to the deeper
33:21consequences of the moment.
33:25Somebody, matter of fact, everybody say
33:26it. That way we'll know who it applies
33:28to. Watch this. Somebody say, "Lord,
33:31help me to stop being so impulsive."
33:34>> See, see, everybody said it that way. We
33:36don't know who. It's cool.
33:40So, so impulsivity is expensive because
33:43appetite rarely calculates consequences.
33:46When you are hungry, all you're thinking
33:49about is meeting that need.
33:55HUNGER, I'M SORRY. HUNGER IS DANGEROUS
33:58WHEN ABSENT when wisdom is absent.
34:04See, some of us, we all we all find
34:06ourselves hungry for different things.
34:07And um see how can I get through this
34:10easy? Uh we we we got certain things
34:13that we kind of uh really want
34:15sometimes. And and uh when you're
34:18hungry, you know what you probably would
34:21not have gotten when you were full
34:23becomes an option because you're hungry.
34:27You ever been at home and only had a few
34:29things in the refrigerator and you
34:31walked by it a few times, but after a
34:33while it's like that peanut butter and
34:36jelly starting to look real good. And
34:38some of us have been walking through the
34:39mall and saw some decisions that we made
34:41when we was hungry that we're ashamed
34:43of. Now that we're full, it's quiet.
34:52It's like, "Oh my god, why are they
34:54calling me?" Because you called them
34:55when you were hungry.
35:00>> That's why.
35:03All right.
35:05So, that's Satan's first move. Let's
35:07look at the Savior's counter move.
35:11The Savior's counter move is the weight
35:14of the word. Repeat what he says.
35:16Matthew 4:4 and 4 says this. He says,
35:19"But he," Jesus answered and said, "It
35:21is written that man
35:25shall NOT LIVE
35:27BY BREAD ALONE."
35:31Do you see the move Satan trying to
35:34make? And do you see Jesus sidest
35:36stepping that and making a counter move?
35:40You're trying to get me to to to root my
35:43life in something temporary.
35:46>> Oh my god.
35:48>> The bread.
35:50>> Temporary.
35:51What's your bread?
35:54Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What's your
35:56bread?
35:58Yeah. The temporary thing that gives a
36:00temporary feeling that pleases temporary
36:03but doesn't satisfy eternally. What's
36:05your bread?
36:08What? What? What's What's
36:10yours?
36:12What's yours, pastor? What's yours?
36:13Don't
36:15What's your What's yours? See
36:18>> See See what's your bread the thing
36:21that's It doesn't have to always be
36:22sexual or sensual.
36:23>> That's right.
36:24>> It could be prideful.
36:28>> Is your bread blaming others?
36:32>> Is your bread holding on to things that
36:34you said you let go of?
36:38I is is your bread holding on to that
36:42grudge.
36:45It's quiet.
36:50Jesus said, "IT IS WRITTEN." HE DROPS
36:54down a word anchor
36:58because
37:01his counter move to the enemy's attack
37:05is an anchor,
37:07a word anchor that will hold me down
37:12when my flesh wants me to go the other
37:15direction.
37:17Let's put that scripture back up there.
37:19He says, "It is written, watch this,
37:22man, Lord have mercy, shall not live,
37:27by bread alone,
37:30but
37:32by every word
37:35that comes out of the mouth of God."
37:40His counter move is what's written, not
37:44even what he wants.
37:4740 days, 40 nights. No doubt Jesus 100%
37:50man, 100% God. No, no doubt he was
37:53hungry, but he didn't allow his hunger
37:56to pull him away from his anchor.
38:00>> Are y'all here?
38:03NO DOUBT. PHYSICALLY, he needed
38:06something.
38:08Legitimate need, but he says, "I'm not
38:11going to I'm not going to meet a
38:12legitimate need illegitimately.
38:17is written. Don't you want this? Jesus
38:20didn't even answer about how good the
38:23bread looked.
38:24Look at what he says. HE SAID, "TURN
38:26THESE STONES INTO BREAD." JESUS NEVER
38:28SAID, "I LIKE BREAD."
38:33He never said that. HIS HIS RESPONSE HAD
38:37NOTHING TO do with bread
38:40because you wouldn't it wouldn't even be
38:41temptation
38:43if I didn't like it.
38:46So he says, "I'm not going to root my
38:47respon." ARE Y'ALL HERE? I'M NOT GOING
38:49TO ROOT MY RESPONSE IN WHAT I WANT. IT'S
38:52NOT ABOUT WHAT I WANT. IT'S ABOUT WHAT'S
38:54WRITTEN.
39:08Don't you just feel like telling THEM
39:10OFF AND PUTTING THEM and letting them
39:12know that they NOT THAT THAT'S NOT EVEN
39:14IT'S NOT EVEN ABOUT WHAT I WANT TO DO.
39:18>> It's no longer I you see
39:22I'm living by what's written.
39:25>> So what's the point of this whole
39:27message today that I didn't finish? Um,
39:31the point is, and we'll we'll look at
39:34it, but the point is whenever the enemy
39:38tried to make a move, Jesus provided a
39:42counter move.
39:44And the counter move was not about how
39:47he was feeling. The counter move was
39:50about what's written.
39:53And here's where some of it's nothing
39:55there's nothing sinful about being
39:57tempted. We are all tempted.
40:02>> Here's where sometimes we get in
40:04trouble. Why you preaching about this,
40:05Pastor Joy? Because there's a there
40:07Listen, if I know Fresh Church, and I
40:09know y'all,
40:11there's
40:13there's certain words for now and
40:15certain words to follow.
40:18This one is for now,
40:23today.
40:29It's not about
40:32what Jesus wanted
40:37because more than he wanted bread,
40:41he had already received the affirmation
40:44of God
40:47a chapter prior. Y'all with me?
40:51So he's living off of the affirmation of
40:54being pleasing to his father.
40:57What can you offer a person to make them
41:00compromise when they know their father
41:02is already pleased with them?
41:06I'm done.
41:09The counter move
41:12is written.
41:14dealing with discouragement,
41:16lift up your head,
41:19oh ye gates,
41:21not feeling like you're um who God has
41:24called you to be. You are above and not
41:27beneath. The lender and not a borrower.
41:32The counter move. When the enemy tries
41:34to make it seem like I'm not who God has
41:36called me to be,
41:39I go back to what's written.
41:43Are y'all with me? I go back to what's
41:45written. So it does not matter what I
41:48feel like. My feelings are not the boss.
41:52His word is.
41:55And when my wants rub up against his
41:58word, I go with his word,
42:02not my wants.
42:06Make a counter move. Come on. Would you
42:07put your hands together?
