10:50the cops and they won't do nothing. So
10:51don't try steering me back there.
10:53>> Okay. I wasn't planning
10:54>> postal inspector. So somebody screws you
10:57over in the mail, you do something about
10:58it, right?
10:58>> Uh well, generally, yeah.
11:00>> Well, I'd like you to look into this.
11:02>> Need to know the circumstances of
11:07>> the situation.
11:09Okay. So,
11:12this is about uh
11:15receiving unsolicited adult material.
11:18What are you talking about unsolicited?
11:20I didn't just solicit this. I paid
11:22through the nose for it.
11:25>> I'm not sure I follow.
11:28>> It's like this. I'm looking to get
11:30married, okay? But I don't meet a lot of
11:33women in my line of work. And so, a
11:35buddy of mine told me that there's lots
11:36of hotl looking women over in Russia
11:38looking for husbands. I figure, what the
11:40heck, right? What do I got to lose? So,
11:42I send away to this mail order bride
11:45company. So far so good. Except they
11:48promise me this and they send me this.
12:02>> Whatever happened to truth and
12:03advertising for crying out loud?
12:073,000 bucks hard cash I put down
12:12for this, not this.
12:16Uh, sir, I I'd have to know what these
12:19circumstances are before I could assist
12:20[clears throat] you.
12:21>> She don't even speak English. I ask her
12:24for a beer and she says, "Blasing plas."
12:31>> Okay, good. Good. Why don't we get the
12:33paperwork started? Uh if you just uh
12:36just come this way. Uh
12:41[music]
13:08Frank.
13:10>> Hey, I didn't know you were back.
13:12>> Yeah, better than late last night.
13:14>> How was uh how was the vacation?
13:17>> Fine.
13:17>> Uh yes,
13:19>> that's not mine.
13:22It was this uh this guy, this is kind of
13:26chunky guy. He came here and he was
13:28trying to get a
13:41>> Are you growing a beard?
13:42>> Oh, yeah. Well, technically it's a it's
13:45a goatee and it's already grown. Ah,
13:50>> I see.
13:52What do we got?
13:53>> Oh, well, it's just a matter of what we
13:55don't have here. A fella died in a
13:57vehicle last night and uh we have no
13:59clue who he is.
14:01>> No driver's license.
14:02>> Fake. Fake everything. Fake ID, fake
14:06driver's license. Used a fictitious name
14:09to rent the vehicle. They found an
14:11unregistered 9mm Glock in the glove
14:13compartment.
14:14>> Why was the inspection service, bro?
14:16>> Along with the gun, they found some
14:17stolen mail. Lots of it.
14:19>> Okay. Where do we start?
14:21>> Well, he's in the morg. We may as well
14:22start there.
14:33>> Thanks for coming up, Marson.
14:35>> 2 hours from Washington. It took 40
14:38miles. 2 hours bumper to bumper. Hey,
14:41forget nuclear bombs. Give me three
14:43dozen stalled cars. I'll rule the world.
14:45>> Marson, have you had a chance to look at
14:46the John Doe yet?
14:47>> No, they're just wheeling them in now.
14:48Well,
14:48>> hurry up, baby.
14:55Normal amount of trauma, severe blood
14:57loss. Can't see any outward signs of
15:00toxicity.
15:01>> Angel finding scars.
15:03>> Just one on his forehead shaped like a
15:06telephone pole.
15:15Relax. Don't be so tense.
15:21It's okay. You're in good hands. This
15:24isn't going to hurt a bit.
15:27>> How soon can you get some results?
15:29>> With [music] the prince.
15:30>> Uh-huh.
15:31>> Oh, put a rush on it. Couple hours.
15:36[music]
15:38>> Where to now?
15:40>> Now we've got to tell a very innocent
15:41family that their entire world [music]
15:42is turned upside down.
15:50All right. This is Inspector Barren.
15:52He's an expert on identity theft. Nice
15:53>> to meet you.
15:54>> Is that what happened to us?
15:56>> Yes. May I?
15:57>> Sure. Identity theft. It even sounds
16:00horrible.
16:01>> I don't understand how a thing like this
16:03could happen.
16:04>> You get pre-approved credit card
16:05applications in the mail from time to
16:06time, don't you?
16:08>> Time to time. We get one practically
16:09every day.
16:10>> What do you do with them?
16:12>> Throw them in the garbage. shredded or
16:14intact.
16:19This is your credit report as of 10:00
16:21this morning.
16:23You've had a personal finance credit
16:25card for 5 months now. Your balance,
16:28which you'll see there, is $8,417.
16:31You haven't missed payment yet. In fact,
16:33the issuing bank loves you so much
16:35they're about to increase your credit
16:36limit.
16:38We believe that you've been victimized
16:40by the most common form of identity
16:42theft. The person goes through your
16:44garbage, dumpster diving, or steals the
16:47mail directly out of your mailbox, signs
16:49your name to the pre-approved
16:50application, [music] indicates change of
16:52address, of course, and then the card is
16:54mailed directly to him.
16:57>> So, he gets the card and he just starts
16:59using it.
17:00>> Yeah, that's right.
17:02a small time thief. He might go out and
17:05charge a, you know, fancy stereo system
17:07and then throw the card away. But those
17:09aren't the people who scare us. Rather
17:11than go on a onetime buying bench, a
17:13true identity thief will slowly bleed
17:14the account dry. Steady, gradual cash
17:17advances, always diligent to pay the
17:20minimum balance every month like a good
17:21customer. It can go on like this for
17:23months, even years with three, four,
17:26five or more cards at once. And then
17:29when all the money is drained from all
17:30the cards, the thief vanishes.
17:34>> What a nightmare.
17:37This type of crime, the damage is silent
17:40below the surface. I mean, you're not
17:42going to have a clue that anything is
17:43wrong until it's too late.
17:46Fact of the matter is could be happening
17:48to any one of us in this room right now.
17:49We wouldn't even know it.
17:54>> Scary stuff. They'll be fine.
17:58are heading out to buy a paper
18:00shredder,
18:00>> right? His and hers.
18:01>> Mhm.
18:02>> Where to now?
18:03>> 1464 Spring Street, apartment 119.
18:07>> Because
18:09remember that fake credit card we found
18:10in John Doe's wallet?
18:11>> Yeah.
18:12>> Issuing bank says that's where the
18:13statements were mailed.
18:15>> See you guys.
18:21>> Apartment 119.
18:24At
18:24>> least our John Doe didn't have to spend
18:26too much on furniture.
18:28Are you the owner?
18:29>> Who's asking?
18:31>> Inspector Hughes. That's Inspector
18:33Abena.
18:34>> We have reason to believe that the
18:35person who rented box 119 was involved
18:37in criminal activity. If it's not too
18:39much trouble.
18:39>> Uh-uh. I don't say nothing till I talk
18:42to my lawyer. I know my rights.
18:44>> H. Then we'd like to see form 1583 that
18:48was filed by the person who uh rented
18:49box 119.
18:50>> You got a hearing problem?
18:52>> Is that a no?
18:53>> That's a no.
18:54>> Ah, that's okay. Instead, I'll tell you
18:57what. I'm going to go down to the post
18:58office and see a copy of form 1583 that
19:01you file down there.
19:04>> You did file a 1583 at the post office.
19:06Required by law, federal law, didn't
19:08you?
19:08>> Come off it. Nobody ever files that
19:12>> You mean you didn't file?
19:13>> Hell no.
19:16>> Inspector Beina, would you instruct the
19:18post office to suspend all deliveries to
19:20this address immediately?
19:21>> Right. You have a good afternoon. Thank
19:23you.
19:25>> Hey. Hey, you can't do that.
19:28No mail delivery. I'm out of business.
19:31Faulty lawyer. Oh, for Christ's sake.
19:33Hold it a second.
19:35You win. All right.
19:38What do you want me to do? Get down on
19:39my hands and knees. Jesus.
19:51There. Happy.
19:59That's all I got. Copers on the fridge.
20:00>> What does this guy look like?
20:01>> Who remembers? People come and go all
20:03the time.
20:05>> Is this him?
20:06>> Yeah, maybe.
20:07>> Hey, is this him?
20:11>> Yeah, I suppose that could have been
20:14him.
20:15>> Can we open up box 119, please?
20:27There.
20:30>> I'm going to have a man posted here 24
20:32hours to keep an eye on that box.
20:33>> What?
20:35Some bed's going to be sitting around my
20:37establishment all day.
20:38>> Well, he'll be discreet. As long as you
20:41cooperate, everything will be okay.
20:42>> Yeah, whatever you say.
20:44>> Just remember, whatever is delivered to
20:46that box, you put in that box. Okay.
20:48>> What the hell do you take me for?
20:56Oh, credit card statements. You and
20:58Bridges, you start contacting the
21:00issuing banks and start tracking down
21:02the victims.
21:03>> Just to know, man.
21:08>> Wonder what we'd find if we empty out
21:09all the boxes.
21:12One mailbox at a time, Mina. One mailbox
21:14at a time.
21:20Thank you very much. I'm done. How about
21:23you? I got one more. Yes. Is this bank
21:26security? Uh, this is Inspector Abena,
21:28the Postal Inspection Service. I need to
21:30report a fraudulent account. Right. The
21:33suspect was killed in a car accident
21:35last night. Account number is 3442
21:392994
21:40[music] 5521
21:430062.
21:46Yeah. 0062.
21:52What?
21:54Are you sure?
21:56No, no, no. Thank you very much. What do
21:59you What do you What do you got?
22:01>> What did they say,
22:02>> Frank?
22:03>> Yeah.
22:03>> Our uh John Doe in the morg, he didn't
22:05look like somebody who could just uh get
22:07up, go walking around, did he?
22:08>> What are you talking about, Arena?
22:09>> Well, according to the issuing bank, 3
22:11hours ago, the guy in the slab walted
22:13into First Credit Union on Maple, took a
22:15cash advance on this card.
22:17Looks like our John Doe's got a part
22:18now. Come on.
22:22Hurry up.
22:40[music]
22:55transaction you're asking about was
22:56handled at 11:43 this morning.
22:59>> Who is the teller?
23:01>> That would be Betty Marsh.
23:04>> Is it okay if we speak to her?
23:05>> Of course, I'll go get her. Nice.
23:22How was Florida? What? Florida?
23:24>> Oh, fine. Fine.
23:27>> What'd you catch?
23:29>> We didn't go fishing.
23:31>> What? Frank Hughes went to the Florida
23:33Keys, didn't try and snag a single
23:34Marlin? Nope.
23:36>> What'd you do then? I mean, if I'm not
23:39getting too personal
23:42when bird watching.
23:48>> Really?
23:50>> Really?
23:55>> See, Katherine and I would take turns
23:56picking the vacation spot and activity,
23:58and this
24:00was her year.
24:05>> Interesting.
24:14Hello.
24:15>> Hi. I'm Inspector Hughes and this is
24:16Inspector Vina. We'd like to ask you a
24:19few questions about a customer that you
24:21served uh this morning. A
24:22>> customer?
24:23>> Yeah. At about 11:45 this morning, a man
24:25took a $1,200 cash advance using a
24:27Passageway bank card.
24:29>> Yes, I remember that.
24:31>> Do you remember what he looked like?
24:33>> No, not really. I mean, I must see at
24:35least 100 people a day.
24:37>> And how old was he?
24:39>> Oh gosh, [sighs and gasps]
24:40I'm so bad at this sort of thing.
24:42>> Ballpark figure. 2016.
24:44>> More like 30.
24:47Is there something wrong?
24:48>> Well, to be honest with you, we really
24:50don't think this guy's going to be uh
24:51retracing his steps. But in case he
24:53does, will you please call us right
24:55away?
24:55>> What did this man do?
24:57>> Well, I'm not quite sure yet, but uh
24:58that's why we'd like to talk to him.
25:00>> All right.
25:00>> Thanks. Uh he's very
25:02>> You're welcome.
25:02>> Cooperation.
25:06Do
25:06>> you have videotapes of the Savannah's
25:08camera?

27:24>> Forgive him.

28:04>> Mhm.
28:05>> Brag, do you realize how rare [music] it
28:06is to see one of these? A black
28:08whiskered beret?
28:09>> I may never see another. [laughter]
28:15[snorts]
28:16You asked for a trace on that stolen
28:18credit card.
28:19>> Yeah.
28:19>> We show that it was just used at the D9
28:21Bar and Grill in Baltimore, Maryland.
28:23>> How long ago?
28:24>> Minutes.
28:26>> You have a number on that?
28:27>> 5552121.
28:29>> Thanks for your help.
28:32>> This is important.
28:34>> Mhm.
28:41>> DN.
28:42>> Hi, this is Inspector Hughes, United
28:43States Postal Inspection Service. You
28:45just had a customer there that signed a
28:46bill with a Passageway credit card.
28:49>> Yeah. Um, how did you know that?
28:52>> Is the customer still there?
28:56>> Yeah. He's uh he's sitting at the bar.
28:59What is all this about?
29:00>> All right. This is very important. Try
29:03to keep that customer there as long as
29:04possible. If he tries to leave, let him.
29:07>> Yeah, sure. Is this guy uh, you know,
29:09some kind of criminal or something? You
29:11just try to delay him as long as
29:13possible and I'll be there in 10
29:14minutes.
29:15>> Yeah. Okay.
29:26>> I'm sorry.
29:30>> Bye.
29:38>> Here you are, sir.
29:40One more. No,
29:42>> it's on the house.
29:44>> No thanks. I'm done.
29:47>> How about that? Uh, Cal Ripken, huh?
29:55>> You know, if it was me, I uh I wouldn't
29:56have stopped playing like that. I would
29:58have kept the street going. I mean,
29:59what's the point of stopping it on
30:00purpose?
30:01>> Lou Garrick, the only reason that he
30:03quit was cuz he got sick
30:05>> and he died.
30:10>> [music]
30:13>> Uh,
30:14>> you're not uh Polish, are you?
30:17>> Not that I know of.
30:19>> So, like a Polish joke wouldn't offend
30:21you.
30:23>> I'm kind of in a hurry. Well, you'll
30:25like this one. Okay. It comes free with
30:26a drink. There's this really foxy Polish
30:29lady, okay? And she flies over from
30:31Poland and she checks into this ritzy
30:33hotel in New York City. She wants to
30:35phone her parents, you know, long
30:36distance. She goes to the desk clerk. He
30:39says it's going to cost $200 for her to
30:41phone to Poland.
30:45>> There's a black car in the vicinity of a
30:46V9 bar and grill.
30:47>> $200 to phone long distance to Poland. I
30:50I don't have that kind of money. He
30:51says, "Don't worry. You know, maybe you
30:54and me and we can work something out."
31:00>> Burger World, can I take your order,
31:02please?
31:02>> Reubena, where are you?
31:03>> Uh, I'm at the Burger World. I'm Dylan.
31:06Why you trying to rub it in?
31:07>> Our guy just used his credit card D9 bar
31:09and grill and he's sitting there now.
31:10>> Mobile PD is on the way.
31:12>> Be right there. So, so the desk clerk,
31:14he goes up to the room and he opens the
31:16door and there she is. And she's stark
31:18naked. Okay. And she says, "Please,
31:21please, can I phone my mama now?" He
31:23goes, "Yeah, sure. But first, you got to
31:25come over here. You got to unzip my
31:27pants.
31:37So she comes over, she unzips his pants.
31:39He says, "Now you got to take out my
31:41pecker."
31:43Takes out his pecker. He says, "Okay,
31:46now you can start."
31:49Takes his pecker, puts it up to her ear,
31:51and says, "Hello, mama. Are you there?"
31:58Hey, hey, I I got I got a better one.
32:20Yeah, got it.
32:22>> I'm Inspector Hughes. We spoke on the
32:24phone.
32:24>> Yeah, he took off just a minute ago.
32:25>> What's he wearing?
32:26>> A black jacket, black shirt, black
32:27pants.
32:34You cover both sides of the street. He's
32:36dressed in black behind you. Can you
32:39take that side? I'll make this time.
32:43Damn.
32:47>> You know, I I tried everything. I told
32:49him a joke. It didn't matter. He just
32:50took off.
32:52>> Got his glass.
32:52>> Yes, sir.
32:53>> I'm going to have to take it.
32:54>> Sure.
32:55>> Can you describe what this guy looked
32:56like? Well, he's just uh, you know,
32:59good-looking guy, normal looking, you
33:01know. Uh, he's not Polish.
33:05Uh, he did have a kind of an unusual
33:08ring though.
33:09>> Unusual? How?
33:10>> Yeah, like a extra big with a green
33:12stone and an emblem on it, you know,
33:14like a like a fraternity ring.
33:23>> You have three new messages.
33:26It's me. Call me when you get in. It's
33:28important.
33:29>> I'm so happy. Just thinking of you. Give
33:33me a buzz.
33:35>> Please call me. I really need to talk to
33:37you.
33:39>> End of messages.
33:47[music]
34:05Where the hell are you?
34:13>> Box 119.
34:14>> All this in one day, huh?
34:16>> Our guys were in business to do
34:17business. No sign of our man, though.
34:19>> These all credit card statements,
34:21different names. Everyone,
34:24>> hey, listen. I'm [clears throat] about
34:26to go down to Washington to the crime
34:27lab. Marca says that the forensic
34:29reports are back. I was thinking maybe
34:31you should go with me, bring the uh
34:33video from the bank. Maybe the lab can
34:35enhance it. You know,
34:36>> check for a big green ring.
34:37>> Yeah. Emblem of some kind. You know,
34:38it's a long shot, but that's all we got.
34:54Please leave a message.
35:10Is
35:10>> this uh Seab Breeze car rental?
35:12>> Yes, it is.
35:14>> I got a little problem with you guys. Uh
35:16a few weeks ago, I got rear ended by a
35:18fellow. He said he was driving one of
35:21your cars and the insurance company.
35:23>> Sir, would you happen to have his name?
35:26>> Ed first.
35:26>> Uh, just a moment, sir.
35:28>> For Taurus.
35:29>> Uh, uh, sir, unfortunately, that car was
35:32in a serious uh accident and the
35:34occupant was found dead at the scene.
35:36I'm sorry.
35:40[music]
35:49>> [music]
35:56[music]
36:02[music]
36:06>> Heat.
36:15Heat. [music]
36:26Okay, that's [music] him. See, see if he
36:28could uh isolate his hand.
36:30>> Which hand?
36:33>> Try both.
36:35Judy just got this back to us.
36:38As you can see, the man who signed the
36:40credit card at the bar and the man who
36:43signed the transaction form at the bank
36:45are the same guy.
36:47>> What about the ballistics on the gun
36:49found in the uh glove compartment?
36:51>> Uh it was fired within the past 30 days.
36:53We're pretty certain of that.
36:55>> Does it match any other shootings on
36:57file?
36:58>> Not in the Baltimore area. We're doing a
37:00wider search now, but it takes time.
37:02>> How about the bar glass?
37:04>> Oh, yeah. We got plenty of prints and
37:07there's lots of DNA from the saliva on
37:09the glass, but the problem is there's no
37:11match in the database. So, our guy must
37:13not have a criminal record.
37:16>> In other words, we're stalking.
37:18>> Not necessarily.
37:21>> You mean you've got something?
37:22>> I mean, I have discovered something
37:24which I think is very important.
37:26>> What's that?
37:28>> Residue of the scotch the guy was
37:30drinking.
37:31>> Scotch? Now, I'm going out on a limb
37:33here and I'm guessing
37:36Delmore, age 16 years, not 12.
37:38>> When you get the ballistics report, will
37:40you let me know, please?
37:41>> We'll do.
37:43>> Call the bartender for me. I'm curious
37:44about that scotch. Oh, and when
37:46Christmas bonus comes around, this would
37:48be nice. Only lots more of it. Plenty
37:51more.
38:00Can you back it up about uh half a dozen
38:02frames?
38:04>> Sure.
38:07>> All right. See if you see if you could
38:09zoom in on the hand.
38:12>> Maybe uh maybe the ring's on the other
38:14hand.
38:15>> Yeah, let's give it a try.
38:32There it is.
38:34Can Can you Can you [music] zoom in a
38:36little tighter on it?
38:42>> Okay. Let it play through again.
38:44>> Yeah. [music]
38:53>> [music]
38:57>> Oh my god. Wait a minute.
39:07[music]
39:12[music]
39:13>> Hey, there you are.
39:16Why didn't you call me back? I left you
39:19two messages.
39:20>> What's wrong?
39:21>> We're in trouble, Joe. Big trouble.
39:26>> Go forward about uh 5 seconds and and
39:29let it play from there.
39:32>> What is [music] it,
39:33>> Frank? Take a look at this. Play play
39:36once more.
39:40>> Right there. Right there. [music]
39:43You see that?
39:45Something going on here? Play back once
39:46more.
39:50[music]
39:51>> Two men came into the bank yesterday,
39:53cops, and they were asking questions
39:56about you.
39:58>> What' you say?
39:59>> Nothing.
40:02>> Well,
40:04you did the right thing. You stuck to
40:05our plan, and we have nothing to be
40:07worried about.
40:08>> Yes, we do. After worry, you just watch.
40:09My boss is going to check back and find
40:11out that we were there and that you
40:13>> Honey, honey, honey. Hey, hey, take take
40:16a deep breath. Just take a deep breath.
40:18Excuse me. Could you uh give her another
40:20one there?
40:23Everything's going to be okay, right?
40:25>> I'm scared, Joe. We could go to jail for
40:27this.
40:30>> Thanks very much. Listen, honey. Look at
40:33me. All right.
40:36Just look at me. Listen,
40:39listen carefully.
40:41All these months we've been together,
40:43planning this thing, and
40:46we kind of figured out we wanted to be
40:47together for the rest of our lives,
40:48didn't we?
40:52>> Well, that that means something to me.
40:55You just got to hang in there a little
40:56while. Do you understand?
41:00>> I understand.
41:02>> Okay.
41:04All right.
41:08Okay, we locked out. Bank manager is
41:10still there. We better get going.
41:11>> He's going to take a quick look through
41:12Betty Marsh's transaction sheets. I'll
41:14give you a call in the ballistics as
41:15soon as they get back. And don't forget
41:16to find out about the Delmore.
41:18>> First thing on my agenda, Morrison,
41:23>> 16year-old, not 12.
41:27>> Scotch.
41:29Scotch.
41:32>> There you go.
41:35Feel better?
41:38Okay. Now,
41:42what about these cops? What do they
41:43want? Who are they?
41:46>> I got their cards.
41:47>> You see them?
42:01>> Postal inspectors.
42:06>> [laughter]
42:08>> What do I have to worry about? What the
42:09>> No, no, Joe. These guys look like they
42:11knew what they were doing.
42:15>> Trust me, we're fine.
42:18Excuse me. Do you have uh Delmore? Can I
42:21get a double shot straight up, please?
42:24>> Eddie,
42:29>> let's finish our drinks and then
42:32we'll go home.
42:35All right.
42:50[music]
42:58[music]
43:00Inspector
43:04[music]
43:06Abena.
43:08>> Yes. Yes, Mr. Hunter.
43:11Really?
43:13Well, thank you. Thank you very much.
43:17In the past 3 months, Betty Marsh
43:18processed the same card on 25 separate
43:21occasions. 25. Each time, she bypassed a
43:24standard security check.
43:26>> You call our bank manager quick, right
43:27away before he leaves. Get the address
43:29of that tella.
43:31>> She's liable to make a run for it.
43:43>> Oh god. [laughter]
43:50Oh, here it is. I get it.
43:54>> Oh no.
43:57Here
44:01we go.
44:04There we go.
44:12>> Are you feeling better?
44:16>> I'm serious, honey. Now, don't panic.
44:19We're getting too close now.
44:22If those cops come back, just act up.
44:26[laughter]
44:27You don't know anything about anything.
44:32>> All right.
44:55I don't
45:12know.
45:18Heat.
45:31[screaming]
45:40Heat.
45:44Heat.
46:04Heat.
46:36What apartment?
46:37>> 301.
46:55This is Marsh. This is Inspected Hughes.
47:02This is Marsh. If you're in there,
47:04please let us in.
47:27Oh Jesus.
47:32[music]
47:33Call homicide.
47:52I need to report a [music] homicide.
48:02Heat. Heat.
48:24Heat. Heat. [music]
49:08Mr. C,
49:11>> thank you for coming. I'd say it was a
49:13pleasure, but under the circumstances.
49:15>> Sit down.
49:17>> You've handled internal security at the
49:19bank for how long now?
49:21>> 15 years.
49:22>> How'd this guy get to her?
49:26>> She was vulnerable.
49:28This guy probably whined her and dined
49:30her, made her believe she'd found true
49:31love. I don't know for sure, but I'd be
49:34willing to bet he did his homework
49:35beforehand.
49:37>> Why do you say that? Before this guy
49:39came along, Miss Marsh was seeing a
49:41therapist for her depression. She lived
49:44alone, was in a little financial
49:46trouble. Apartment full of romance
49:48novels. This guy must have seemed like
49:50he fell down from heaven.
49:52>> Betty Marsh had no prior criminal
49:54record.
49:54>> None. But this guy would have been hard
49:57to resist. Champagne dinners and a
50:00promise of life together. I've known
50:01people flip-flop over a whole lot less.
50:09>> [sighs]
50:10>> Stakes have gotten higher, Abina.
50:13>> Maybe she threatened to turn him in.
50:14>> Yeah, maybe so. Almost that partner of
50:17his died in that freak accident. Things
50:19began to get undone.
50:22He may just be tying up loose ends.
50:29>> Oh, no. No, no, no. You, you go first.
50:35>> [clears throat]
50:45>> Damn. I still don't get how you do that.
50:49>> Simple
50:51>> technique. Just once you get the
50:53mechanics together, just a matter of
50:55repetition.
50:56>> Yeah, technique.
50:57>> Yep. Repetition. Yeah,
51:02>> technique. Muscle memory. Yeah,
51:06if you can find something that's uh
51:08works, stick with it. I should do it
51:12once,
51:16you can do it twice. [music]
51:20Terrific. That's It's great. That muscle
51:23memory thing yours is is really great.
51:26My muscles seem to memorize it a little
51:27wrong, but
51:30>> let's go.
51:31>> Let's go where? To the office. the
51:33office.
51:34>> I concede the game. The check.
51:37>> Let's go. Okay.
51:41>> Now, these are all the credit card
51:43statements we got from the mail drop
51:44box. I want you to go through every
51:47transaction, every single one, and see
51:49if there's any other multiple
51:51transactions in any other specific
51:52banks. We're looking for threads here.
52:07>> [music]
52:10>> scared. [music]
52:17[music]
52:22Thank you.
52:26[music]
52:44>> [music]
52:50>> It's B17.
52:54Bingo. This is the transaction with
52:56Betty Marsh, the one that we caught on
52:58the security cameras. [music]
52:59These other four were processed by a
53:00teller named Angela Lur at First
53:02Transnational downtown. [music] No doubt
53:04about it, we're dealing with the same
53:05guy here. This is just the tip of the
53:06iceberg. Angela Lure processed 41
53:09[music] of the transactions that we
53:10checked. And she bypassed the standard
53:12security controls on everyone just like
53:14Betty Marsh.
53:17>> Do you know where this woman lives?
53:18>> Riverview District [music] about a half
53:19hour from here.
53:21>> Let's go to work, Bridges. Thanks. We
53:23better get over there.
53:35Heat. Heat.
53:54Mommy, look at this.
53:56>> Mommy's coming right back.
53:58>> Hey, sounds kind of crazy over there.
54:01>> Babysitter's running late.
54:02>> I can't wait to see you. I have
54:04something special planned.
54:06>> What?
54:06>> No, I can't say now.
54:10If I did that, wouldn't be a surprise,
54:13now would it?
54:15Tell me.
54:17>> Is it? I'll try again. If it's still
54:20busy, we'll get the operator to break
54:22in. I see if Baltimore PD's got a squad
54:24car in the vicinity.
54:27[bell]
54:30>> Hi. Sorry I'm late.
54:32>> It's okay. Wow, you look really pretty,
54:34Mrs. Lure.
54:36>> Thanks.
54:48Okay, train it.
54:49>> That looks really good.
54:52>> Hello,
54:53>> Angela Lore, please.
54:56>> Speaking
55:14station.
55:25>> What seems to be the problem, officer?
55:26Prom night. Just spot checking for
55:29drunken teenagers.
55:33>> Did you think I was a teenager?
55:36>> From 50 ft back, it's hard to tell.
55:38[laughter]
55:40You made my night.
55:44>> Okay.
56:00>> I don't know what you're talking about.
56:0241 separate transactions, all improperly
56:05processed, all from the same man, all
56:08with different names. Come on, Angela.
56:10We know you're involved.
56:11>> I still don't know.
56:12>> Hold on. You need to listen to what I'm
56:14saying. This man is very dangerous. You
56:16could be in.
56:18>> She
56:22stop calling me oral.
56:24>> You murdered a bank teller last night.
56:25Her name was Betty Marsh. She was
56:26suffocated in her own bed.
56:32You're lying.
56:34>> Joe wouldn't do that. Joe,
56:37>> see, you don't even know who he is.
56:39>> Hold on. Does Joe wear a big green ring?
56:43>> Does Joe wear a hat when he comes into
56:45the bank? Think about it, Angela. Has
56:46Joe ever once left anything around that
56:48could identify him? Has Joe ever once
56:51showed you where he lives?
56:56>> Can I help you?
56:57>> Mhm.
56:59You can draw.
57:03>> Uhhuh.
57:06>> Where do I turn?
57:12Oh my god.
57:44No.
57:49[music]
57:54[music]
57:56Heat. Heat.
58:12[bell]
58:13[music]
58:33>> [bell]
58:50>> Hey, Angela.
58:54Hey, honey.
58:57>> Angela.
58:58Hey, it's me.
59:04[panting and sighs]
59:14>> [music]
59:36>> Stay here.
59:38I'm calling 911.
59:54Okay.
1:00:02Who is it?
1:00:04>> Hello, Mrs. Lore. My name is Jerry Ogan
1:00:07and I'm calling with a special onetime
1:00:09only subscription offer from the News
1:00:10Herald.
1:00:55>> [music]
1:00:56>> Yes. Yes.
1:01:04>> [music]
1:01:21>> Oh my god.
1:01:25[panting]
1:01:29>> [laughter]
1:01:38>> And you don't have one single photograph
1:01:40of him.
1:01:42>> No.
1:01:44>> What about a car? What kind of car does
1:01:45he drive?
1:01:48>> A Chevy. A a green Chevy.
1:01:51>> Rented.
1:01:53>> I don't know.
1:01:55Excuse
1:01:57me.
1:01:59Have you seen these before?
1:02:01>> No.
1:02:05>> Listen, Angela, we're going to have to
1:02:07put you and your boy in protective
1:02:08custody tonight just in case Joe decides
1:02:10to come back.
1:02:15>> Am I going to jail?
1:02:17>> We're really not concerned with that
1:02:18right now. What we're concerned with is
1:02:21finding this guy.
1:02:24Why don't you take a few minutes, gather
1:02:25some of your belongings, okay?
1:02:32Come on, let's go.
1:02:39So, the flowers were definitely charged
1:02:41on this card.
1:02:43>> Okay, thank you.
1:02:47>> Well,
1:02:47>> bank confirms it. Credit card issued to
1:02:50Francis X McGinty. address 605 Kenwood
1:02:53Apartment 335.
1:02:55>> Well, I'll send a man over there, but uh
1:02:57that's another drop box. I've been on
1:02:59it. Yeah,
1:02:59>> the bank's going to fax us over a uh new
1:03:01credit card statement. Apparently, it's
1:03:03pretty active card. Department stores,
1:03:05gas stations, that kind of thing.
1:03:06>> Why all of a sudden he's using this
1:03:08particular card for purchases? All the
1:03:10other cards are used for cash advances.
1:03:12All of them.
1:03:13>> Well, maybe this is really him. Maybe uh
1:03:18McGinty Francis X is his real identity.
1:03:37>> [music]
1:03:43[sighs]
1:03:44>> You're calling people at 7:00 on a
1:03:46Sunday morning. Somebody ought to arrest
1:03:48you.
1:03:50>> Hey, baby. Look at this.
1:03:57This is a the complete transaction of
1:04:00Francis expert Ginte all five months
1:04:03worth. You know,
1:04:05>> I think I'll stick with the arts and
1:04:07leisure section instead.
1:04:08>> No, look, it says gas stations, gift
1:04:10shops, but there's something here I
1:04:11don't quite understand.
1:04:14>> Which one?
1:04:14>> Yeah, right there. Renewal.
1:04:17>> Oh, that's an electronic debit.
1:04:19>> Banks automatically charge your card
1:04:21when you have to renew something.
1:04:22>> I know. Like what? I don't know.
1:04:26Why don't you call them?
1:04:35[music]
1:04:41[music]
1:04:46[music]
1:04:51Can't you schedule your hunches Monday
1:04:53through Friday?
1:05:01>> You must be Inspector Hughes.
1:05:02>> Yes,
1:05:02>> I'm Cheryl. We spoke on the phone.
1:05:04>> I appreciate you coming here on a Sunday
1:05:06morning like this.
1:05:07>> Here's the federal search warrant.
1:05:11[music]
1:05:12>> No problem. The locksmith will be here
1:05:13in a minute.
1:05:14>> All right.
1:05:15>> All right.
1:05:20Exactly what is this hunch?
1:05:22>> This was the only card used for outright
1:05:23purchases. [music] The only card sent to
1:05:25a different dropbox.
1:05:26>> So you mean Francis McGinty is his real
1:05:28name?
1:05:29>> Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't. Not
1:05:32important. The important thing is he
1:05:34thinks it's [music] clean.
1:05:47The safe deposit boxes are down this
1:05:49way. [music]
1:05:52>> No surveillance cameras.
1:05:53>> No, only motion detectors.
1:05:56>> Uh
1:05:59oh, here we go. Box 2444.
1:06:03>> Okay,
1:06:06here. Let's do it.
1:06:10>> [music]
1:06:15[music]
1:06:21[music]
1:06:27[music]
1:06:38>> My god. God.
1:06:39>> How much you think is in there?
1:06:42>> At least a million dollars. What should
1:06:44we do with it?
1:06:46>> Going to keep it right here.
1:06:48>> What?
1:06:49>> I want that box fixed and reinstalled so
1:06:51it looks like nothing has been tampered
1:06:53with. You take this out and flip through
1:06:55the money. Give us a rough idea what
1:06:56we're talking about here.
1:06:57>> You're not going to confiscate the
1:06:58money?
1:06:59>> No, no, no. The money and the gun stays
1:07:00right here. I'm much more interested in
1:07:01confiscating the man who put it here.
1:07:03>> Okay, here's our timeline, people. On
1:07:05Friday, he killed his first teller.
1:07:07Saturday, he tried to kill the second
1:07:08teller. He knows we're close, but he has
1:07:10no reason to suspect we're aware of the
1:07:12safe deposit box. When the bank opens
1:07:14for business today, that'll be his first
1:07:15chance to get in there and grab the
1:07:17money.
1:07:20>> Now, you've all been on stakeouts
1:07:21before. There's no need to go over the
1:07:24obvious.
1:07:26Basically, it's this. [sighs] Griffo
1:07:28Turner Mahalo and I will be posing as
1:07:30bank customers. We need to rotate every
1:07:3345 minutes. Bridges will be working at
1:07:35desk. Doing what?
1:07:37>> Bank auditor. There's your name tag.
1:07:39>> Great.
1:07:40>> Now, I'm going to be on the floor posing
1:07:41as a bank guard.
1:07:44>> Everybody, this is Mr. Yamura. He's a
1:07:46bank employee who normally uh takes care
1:07:48of the safe deposit box area.
1:07:49>> Shouldn't we have an inspector back
1:07:51there?
1:07:51>> No. It's important that we create the
1:07:53impression of a normally functioning
1:07:54bank.
1:07:55>> Mr. Yura will be carrying the silent
1:07:57alarm. If our guy comes in, tries to
1:07:59access box 2444, he'll activate and we
1:08:03move in.
1:08:03>> What about surveillance cameras?
1:08:05>> Oh. There's some right to privacy issues
1:08:07with the bank and his customers.
1:08:08>> The area is set up with motion detectors
1:08:11interfaced with his computer.
1:08:13>> Hank will be taking notes on any
1:08:15movement.
1:08:16>> Oh, gentlemen, ladies,
1:08:20our man [music] is considered armed and
1:08:22dangerous, so please be safe and be
1:08:25smart.
1:08:27[music]
1:08:34>> [music]
1:08:41>> Hey, [music]
1:08:58hey, hey.
1:09:08>> [music]
1:09:26>> Good morning.
1:09:30Are they going to take out
1:09:47here?
1:09:49Oh,
1:09:58>> sign in for me, please.
1:10:02Yeah,
1:10:03>> you can do it.
1:10:21Good morning, sir.
1:10:23>> Morning.
1:10:24Box uh 2328, please.
1:10:28>> Yes.
1:10:36Welcome.
1:10:42[music]
1:11:15Excuse me, sir. Uh, where do I go for
1:11:17travelers checks?
1:11:18>> Any teller will help you, ma'am.
1:11:26[music]
1:11:32You're making this a lot easier. That's
1:11:34uh [music]
1:11:42>> [music]
1:11:57>> sleep.
1:12:02Yeah.
1:12:08Where where's Gus? Excuse me. Gus, the
1:12:11usual guy. Oh, he's he's on vacation.
1:12:14Vacation?
1:12:16Hell, I want Gus's job. He just had a
1:12:19vacation last month. Gosh.
1:12:33It's larger.
1:12:47>> [music]
1:12:55[music]
1:13:10>> You know, if being a bank auditor is not
1:13:13the dullst job in the world, I will tell
1:13:15you what is. pretending to be a bank
1:13:18auditor.
1:13:18>> What's tomorrow's schedule?
1:13:20>> We start at 9:00, open at 10:00. And
1:13:22another thing, you know what the problem
1:13:24with a stakeout is?
1:13:26>> Your day job does not know that you were
1:13:28on a steak out.
1:13:29>> I'll see you at the bank tomorrow.
1:13:38[music]
1:13:47>> [music]
1:13:51>> Relax, honey. You have to figure it's a
1:13:54long shot.
1:13:56>> I know, but
1:13:59I got a hunch.
1:14:02>> Inspector Hughes, I know you're famous
1:14:05for your hunches, but think about it.
1:14:07Why would this man risk coming back to
1:14:09get his money if he knows your answer? I
1:14:11mean, if I were this guy, I would just
1:14:13mosey on down to the next town, make
1:14:15another mill where nobody knows me.
1:14:18>> Yeah, but uh he's been taking his money
1:14:20out a thousand at a time for months.
1:14:23There's no risk. At least not in his
1:14:26head.
1:14:28Why would you think we know anything
1:14:29about his safe deposit [music] box? Huh?
1:14:32I know he thinks we're on to a scam with
1:14:34the tellers, but uh [clears throat]
1:14:37he's going to come get his money. I'm
1:14:39sure of it.
1:14:54>> [music]
1:15:02[music]
1:15:09[music]
1:15:15[music]
1:15:27>> Oh, look. Look.
1:15:30>> This is daddy getting ready to go to
1:15:31work.
1:15:32>> This is daddy running a little late.
1:15:50This is daddy changing a tire.
1:15:54>> A daddy's got a boo boo. Poor daddy.
1:16:00[music]
1:16:19>> [music]
1:16:27[music]
1:16:32[music]
1:16:40[music]
1:16:45[music]
1:16:45>> Alex is late.
1:16:46>> Yeah, I know.
1:16:53>> Morning.
1:16:54>> Morning. Identification, please, sir.
1:16:55>> There you go.
1:16:57>> Hold on. Can I see the name again,
1:16:59please?
1:17:01Yes, it's Ervina. Inspector Alexina. I'm
1:17:04kind of running late. Is there a
1:17:05problem?
1:17:06>> Step this way a minute, please, sir.
1:17:08>> Why? What's over here? What's What's the
1:17:09problem?
1:17:10>> You're Inspector Alex, right?
1:17:11>> Ervina Erbina.
1:17:12>> You mind explaining to me how you
1:17:13managed to pass through security 10
1:17:14minutes ago?
1:17:17>> What?
1:17:20>> It's all over, Mr. Yora.
1:17:24>> I think we got our guy.
1:17:25>> You did? Picked him up right outside the
1:17:27bank entrance. and uh he had this kiosk
1:17:30person.
1:17:32Now, if that fits the box in there, then
1:17:35I think we got our man.
1:17:36>> Look, I will stay here. Get Get Frank
1:17:39Hughes. Get any of the inspectors. They
1:17:40could identify me.
1:17:42>> Let's check.
1:17:44>> Right.
1:17:46>> Okay.
1:17:49>> Anyone else tried to access the box
1:17:50recently?
1:17:51>> Uh, no, sir. Want to
1:17:53>> make sure we're not dealing with any
1:17:54kind of accompllices.
1:18:06This key fits. Hope you got our man.
1:18:18What do you know?
1:18:23>> Well, uh

1:19:14>> Oh, steady as she goes. There's been a
1:19:16couple people in and out. Nothing but
1:19:18dead air on the motion detector now,
1:19:20though.
1:19:22>> Hey, wait a minute.
1:19:24What' you say about that motion
1:19:25detector?
1:19:26>> I said it's all quiet.
1:19:27>> Mirrors back there. It's not supposed to
1:19:28be all quiet.
1:19:31>> What?

1:25:46>> Come closer. Goose.
1:25:48>> Put the gun down.

1:25:55the gun last Sunday when I opened up
1:25:56your safe deposit box.
1:26:00>> I kind of figured on that, so I brought

1:26:06in case I used up what was already in
1:26:08the gun.
1:26:12May as well put the gun down. You're not
1:26:13going to get out of this alley.

1:28:00please?
1:28:00>> Can I go soon?

1:29:42I didn't know you took the bullets out
1:29:43of that gun on Sunday.
1:29:45>> I mean I mean of course you would. It's
1:29:47it's logical but
1:29:51still for a minute.
1:29:51>> Is she on solid food yet?
1:29:53>> Is she what?
1:29:54>> Is she on solid food yet?
1:29:56>> No.
1:29:57>> No.
1:29:59>> Taking the firing pin out though.
1:30:03>> That was even better.
1:30:04>> She's really cute, man. Of course, for
1:30:06my own peace of mind, you could have
1:30:08told Joe both things at once. Hey, don't
1:30:10bother shooting my friend Alex here. Uh,
1:30:12there's no bullets in that gun. There's
1:30:14no firing bin either.
1:30:15>> That would have been nice.
1:30:16>> Oh, I I will next time. I'm sorry.
1:30:20>> Next time.
1:30:26>> Thing is, what if it was a new gun
1:30:28entirely? How did you know? How did you
1:30:30know that the gun in his hand
1:30:32>> was the same gun you disabled in the
1:30:34box? Oh, it's just a hunch. You know,
1:30:35one of Monday to Friday hunches. There's
1:30:37your daddy over there. See? Yeah.
1:30:42Oh, God.
1:30:48I marked the barrel of the gun with a
1:30:50piece of chalk cuz I know it's the same
1:30:52gun. Huh?
1:30:54[groaning]
1:30:58>> You weren't scared, were you?
1:30:59>> Scared? No, I don't. I don't get scared.
1:31:09Um.
1:31:10[music]
1:31:11Oh no.
1:31:15Oh no.
1:31:18Here you go, sweetheart. That was nice.
1:31:21Ah. [sighs] Well, you know what they say
1:31:23about payback. Here. You might want to.
1:31:26You got something on your shirt.
1:31:33Look what daddy made.
1:31:45>> Who we got here?
1:31:46>> Your guess as good as [music] mine.
1:31:49>> Christ almighty. How many aliases does
1:31:51this guy have?
1:31:54>> What's his real name? [clears throat]
1:31:55>> Nobody's got a clue.
1:31:57>> Get out of here.
1:31:58>> Truth. Could be Jimmy Hoff we got in
1:32:00there.
