0:00gave an interview to somebody. I don't

0:01know who the interviewer was, but they

0:03they got some good stuff out of you.

0:04>> Did they?

0:05>> Uh yes, cuz you said a lot of people

0:07would favor Shakur Stevenson to win this

0:09fight. He he'll be the favorite if it

0:11gets made. But, you said Devin Haney

0:15a big problem for Shakur Stevenson is

0:16Devin Haney is very good at the range,

0:19the long range that Shakur Stevenson

0:21likes to operate in.

0:22>> Mhm.

0:22>> Devin Haney has the reach advantage

0:24there. If he can rehydrate in this fight

0:26strong, even if he has to step on the

0:28scales at 45, you likened it to when you

0:30had to come to 44 for Adrien Broner. You

0:33rehydrated. Your physical strength and

0:35size is an issue for AB.

0:38Um so, there's some there's that

0:39parallel there, but I thought you gave a

0:42a good breakdown on that. So, you would

0:43actually favor Devin Haney who most

0:45people are going to have as the underdog

0:47in this fight.

0:47>> about it again last night. Guys, make

0:49sure you check out

0:51uh the Porter weight watch party. We'll

0:53definitely do one for Fundora and Hadj

0:56Bouch. The thing is I Hadj Bouch. Okay.

1:00My fault. I appreciate you.

1:01>> Yeah.

1:01>> Uh

1:02I'm not supposed to know that until

1:03>> Maybe I'm wrong though.

1:04>> Nah, it could be. I'm not supposed to

1:05know until Saturday, so

1:07>> [laughter]

1:07>> but um we will be doing a watch party

1:10this week. I'll be working the TNT

1:13telecast. I'll be popping in and out as

1:14much as I can along with um being being

1:18in tune on the YouTube. So,

1:20uh we're going to get more consistent

1:21with these, so make sure you guys check

1:22it check that out this weekend. Um that

1:25said,

1:26um the question asked again last night

1:28was about this fight and

1:32last night and in previous conversations

1:35it's been

1:3650/50. It's been 45/55. You know what I

1:39mean?

1:4160/40.

1:43>> Devin Haney.

1:43>> Devin Haney.

1:4560/40.

1:47You got you And then again, like the

1:50fact that

1:51and I understand Shakur Stevenson. I've

1:54had I've had one fight at 140, right?

1:58Maybe two?

1:59>> One.

1:59>> I've had one fight at 140.

2:01I'm not a 147 lb fighter. He showed us

2:04that he's a natural 140 pounder. We know

2:07that. We know that he could probably

2:08squeeze into 135 if it made sense. If it

2:11was a Tank Davis, he probably there's

2:13enough energy there for him to actually

2:14squeeze into that 135 and then rehydrate

2:18and be strong on fight night against a a

2:19Tank Davis, but he knows that I'm not a

2:23147 lb fighter that can fight at 147. I

2:27was a 147 lb fighter. Depending on the

2:30opponent, I could have fought at 54. I

2:32could have fought at 60. He knows what

2:34this dude right here that

2:37you're going to be strong on fight

2:38night. You're more filled out and you're

2:40more settled in at 147 than I am, which

2:43is why I want this fight to be or at

2:45least do do a catchweight at 145. Forget

2:48the rehydration and we probably say

2:50forget the rehydration cuz we can see

2:52that you're going to keep pushing on

2:53this and it's just going to be come and

2:55argue back and forth and the fight's not

2:57going to get done. So, that's probably

2:58why he moved off of that, which again, I

3:00understand both sides of it. I

3:02understand the rehydration proto- uh uh

3:05um

3:06clause that he was looking to initiate.

3:09I understand that. I understand him

3:11wanting uh

3:12him wanting Shakur or I'm sorry, Devin

3:14to come down to 145. As

3:17"Meet me as close as you can to to where

3:19I'm at, you know, if at if at least on

3:23on day of the weigh-in meet me as close

3:25to where we as where I am as possible

3:28because on fight night you're going to

3:29be 160 lb, 165 lb, and I'm still going

3:33to be 150, maybe maybe maybe 155. You're

3:38going to be 150. I mean, I'm I'm going

3:40to be 150. You're going to be 1 160,

3:42165, you know?

3:43>> 160 plus, right?

3:44>> Yeah, he's going to be 160 plus. I favor

3:46Devin Haney because of the speed,

3:49because of the range, and that's what I

3:50said to to to the to the interview.

3:54The space

3:55that Shakur needs and wants you at is

3:59the space is the I mean the exact space

4:03that Devin Haney is so operational at is

4:06ridiculous. So, it's like basically I

4:08need you right here in order for me to

4:10do what I do, and you're like, "Cool,

4:12right here is where I like to be

4:13anyway." And it's going to be a problem.

4:15I think the the the adjustments are not

4:17going to have to be on Shakur because

4:21Shakur's ability to um the dictate the

4:25range, his ability to dictate the pace.

4:28This dude don't care because this is

4:30where I like to operate anyway. For the

4:32first time in my career, I've got

4:34somebody that actually likes me like

4:37likes for the fight to be where I like

4:38for it to be.

4:40This is a harder fight for Shakur than

4:42it is for Devin Haney, especially on top

4:44of the fact that this dude Devin Haney

4:47is more filled out and more of a natural

4:50147-lb fighter. He's got speed, speed

4:53makes power. This dude is bringing a

4:55whole lot on fight night for Shakur.

4:56It's It's It's I think it's tougher for

4:58Shakur than it is for Devin.

5:00>> It's interesting. O'Shaquie Foster gave

5:02a a great breakdown of it, too. And I

5:05think he agreed with what some of you

5:07what what you're saying. He goes, you

5:08know, he's fighting a guy who's

5:09athletic, who's long, who knows how to

5:11fight at that range. Um

5:14and he thinks that Shakur will actually

5:16have to be the aggressor, and that

5:18surprised me because when they sparred I

5:21felt like and you've seen that sparring

5:23session, right?

5:24>> I did not, but it's on YouTube, right?

5:25>> Great. It's a great sparring session. It

5:27is.

5:27>> check it out. Yeah, I've heard about it,

5:29but I haven't watched it.

5:30>> Very high-level and more entertaining

5:31than people might think. Oh, these are

5:32two pure boxers, the fight's going to be

5:34boring. Not if it's like their sparring

5:36session was. Their sparring session was

5:38excellent. It was like real high-speed

5:40chess. Punches were being thrown.

5:41>> I want to go on record for saying, you

5:43know how I was saying the fight with

5:45Teofimo Lopez and Rolly Romero might be

5:48might be a little

5:49>> And they surprised you a little bit,

5:50yeah.

5:50>> This thing is going to be

5:53ooh.

5:53>> Really?

5:53>> This is going to be

5:55boxing at its finest. I promise. There's

5:58no There's nothing short of somebody

6:00injuring a hand or pulling a shoulder or

6:03something like that. And even then,

6:05this thing there's no way this fails.

6:08This I think is what

6:10really gets boxing people This This

6:13right here gets

6:14peop- boxing hope.

6:16>> Well, here's the thing though. Um I I I

6:18have that some optimism with you about

6:20it because of [clears throat] how the

6:21sparring looked when you know, about 10

6:23years ago. However, those are sixteens,

6:26the headgear's on. I've had fighters

6:28tell me sometimes a pure boxer like

6:31that, he's not going to let that much

6:32volume go with eights on and with the

6:35headgear off. And now you add in stakes

6:38and guys not wanting to lose this. This

6:40isn't just some competitive sparring

6:41session now. You don't want to make a

6:43mistake in this fight. So, do you Even

6:45with all that said, are you still

6:46confident it would actually be an

6:48entertaining chess match?

6:49>> I am because I think that both these

6:51dudes with Trump's all that is their

6:52competitive spirit, their competitive

6:54drive.

6:55>> only landed 70 punches in his last two

6:57fights in both fights each of those 70

7:00each.

7:00>> Total?

7:00>> Uh no, each. Uh so, 140 total.

7:03>> but but 70 70 punches total

7:06>> 70 He dropped Norman early.

7:07>> And in 70 total.

7:09>> Yeah.

7:09>> Sheesh.

7:10>> Yeah.

7:10>> [laughter]

7:11>> But do you think because he's not he

7:14Well, the guy had to give him a a

7:16mulligan a little bit on Ramirez. He's

7:18coming back from Ryan.

7:19>> in my eyes. I'm sorry. It's going to be

7:21fun. Yeah.

7:22>> You think against a guy who's not a

7:23puncher like Brian Norman,

7:25he'll be more He won't He'll trust his

7:27chin more and

7:28>> You know what's crazy? I think the 70,

7:30right? And I get it. We We rely on that

7:31number. We We've seen it consistently,

7:33right? That 70 is going to look a lot

7:35better against this right here. And we

7:39know that uh Shakur doesn't have a high

7:41work rate, either. The efficiency that

7:43they're going to work with and then

7:45they're I think they're both still

7:47immature enough to want that get back,

7:49you know? When I get touched, that

7:51That's That's what we got going here.

7:53I'm pro- I promise y'all I'll do 100

7:55push-ups if it's boring.

7:56>> Mhm.

7:56>> I'll do 100 push-ups if it's boring.

7:58I'll

7:59sit here crying after I do it, but I'll

8:00do 100 push-ups if this If this fight

8:02ain't ain't a beautiful match top to

8:05bottom in every in every form, right?

8:08So, I'll be like, man, the fight got to

8:10have action, you know? We We want to

8:12>> Speed.

8:14>> Well, I I like the drama, you know what

8:16I mean? Like this thing

8:17>> Adjustments.

8:17>> the adjustments. This thing going to

8:19have it all.

8:20>> Mhm. It's It's interesting though that

8:21you said it's on Shakur to make an

8:23adjustment and O'Shacki agrees with you.

8:25He said Shakur is going to have to be

8:26the aggressor, but when they sparred

8:28and they were in the center, Shakur was

8:30sharp shooting Devin and Devin had more

8:32success once he started to go downhill,

8:34put some combinations together, impose

8:36his length and his size advantage a

8:38little bit. So,

8:39um

8:40>> Yeah.

8:40>> Which I I would expect for that to be

8:42what Devin does anyway. Devin's become

8:45more of that than he's ever been in his

8:47in his entirety of boxing. He's He's

8:50He was never a a a Excuse me, an

8:54aggressive

8:56uh boxer when he was an amateur. He was,

8:59you know, 100 punches a round as most of

9:02us are when we're amateurs. He got a

9:03little older and it was still that

9:05because he was just so so fast and so

9:07skillful that that the digression of

9:10that that um

9:12that punch out putting stuff like that

9:14is just a lot of guys simply saying,

9:15"Well, it's a 3-minute round now. I want

9:18to set things up. I want to be

9:19efficient." and all that kind of stuff.

9:21It's beautiful. It's great. Makes you a

9:22very proficient boxer,

9:25but he

9:27the the level of competition that he was

9:29going up against it actually called for

9:31him to be more aggressive. You know, he

9:33he would break guys down or or outskill

9:35them or outslick them and then all of a

9:37sudden I'm near the end of the fight and

9:39I can be a little more aggressive, you

9:40know? We didn't see that with Bryant

9:42Norman Jr., which is like the only thing

9:44we didn't see, which kind of dampened

9:46the the the performance as a whole. And

9:49I I got a feeling with this right here,

9:52while he doesn't have to be especially

9:54aggressive, as long as Shakur he's right

9:57where Shakur wants him to be, it's

9:58actually where he can work at his will.

10:00So, I think it's going to be great.

10:02>> And lastly,

10:03you you cuz you did spar Shakur, too. I

10:05was there when you used to spar Haney

10:07when he was a teenager, but you sparred

10:08Shakur, too, right?

10:09>> Yeah, he was cheating.

10:10>> What do you mean?

10:11>> He's just great.

10:12>> Oh, got you.

10:13>> Just great.

10:14>> He shut you down, huh?

10:15>> Oh, 100%.

10:16No, [laughter]

10:17100%. I And there were there really was

10:20a part of me that was like, man, I wish

10:21I was in shape.

10:21>> Isn't fun?

10:22>> I wish I was in shape to really like

10:24push him to see what he would do. That

10:26was really the only thing I

10:27wasn't I wasn't even capable of doing

10:29it, but on my own accord, I never found

10:32out what you would do if I got really

10:34aggressive. Obviously, I'm extremely

10:36bigger than the dude and all that kind

10:37of stuff, but that was the one thing I

10:39didn't see with the what I did see,

10:41which does give me faith in him that he

10:43can make this fight I said 60/40 for

10:46Devin, all of a sudden becomes 50/50

10:49because he's so intuitive in the ring.

10:51Basically, what I mean by that is he has

10:53the ability to see and know what you're

10:56going to throw before you throw it. And

10:58like I said, like I actually experienced

11:00it. I I see his little twitches and I'm

11:02like, like, damn, like, how you

11:05How you get to where my jab going before

11:07I even, you know?

11:08>> Yeah, that anticipation.

11:10>> He has amazing

11:11and I that's why I refer to it as in two

11:13intuition because it's anticipation, but

11:17when you're not wrong,

11:19>> [laughter]

11:20>> you know? And when we look at his his

11:22his statistics, his statistics prove

11:24that he's not wrong. It becomes more

11:26more tuition, not intuition, becomes

11:28more tuition.

11:30Intuition, excuse me. Becomes more

11:32intuition than it becomes anticipation

11:34to me.

11:35>> Who Who impressed you more in the rounds

11:36when you go back to your mind's eye

11:37about it? I mean, Devin was a teenager.

11:39>> And And I was going to say like Devin

11:40Devin was impressing us just because,

11:42you know,

11:42>> God damn, he was 15 and he was

11:44>> so much of what we were doing, and so we

11:46were, you know, proud of him from that

11:47standpoint. And my dad was like, you

11:49know, "Hey, I just want you to run,

11:50move, and and throw, and you know,

11:52Shakur's going to do what he's doing,

11:54and, you know, totally, you know, he

11:56ain't going to hurt you, da da da da."

11:57But

11:59to see him grow up, right? That's That's

12:01what's impressed me about him. And what

12:03impressed me about uh Shakur was when I

12:06went to a sparring session, and I saw

12:07him spar two different styles.

12:09>> I was there with you.

12:10>> And he And he made both those styles

12:12like just become

12:13>> Tamed in 30 seconds.

12:14>> Tamed both That was

12:17Like that's not an exaggeration.

12:18>> remember you told me like that's, you

12:20know, that's really special what you

12:21just saw. And I And I'm listening to

12:23you, and I, you know, I have the eye,

12:24too, right? I know, you know, you

12:25respect my boxing eye.

12:27>> Absolutely.

12:27>> But um you know, I'm not seeing like

12:30some crazy

12:31combinations and pull counters and all

12:33that kind of stuff. That's like seeing a

12:34lot of sauce, but within 30 seconds you

12:36go, "That's not normal."

12:38>> That's not normal.

12:38>> I go, "You see how that kid came out

12:40moving his head, being aggressive,

12:41looking to be busy? And

12:44all that just got disarmed within the

12:46first minute of the sparring session."

12:47You're like, "That's not normal."

12:49>> Yeah.

12:49>> And then, you know, a lot of times,

12:51especially again, sparring, where you

12:52were You're more comfortable than you

12:54could ever be in life, you should be

12:55able to go back to the corner and the I

12:57don't know what those corners were

12:58doing, but hey, yo, what are you doing?

13:00Like, you know,

13:00forget that that's Shakur Stevenson, do

13:02what you do.

13:04And those guys could not do what they

13:05do.

13:06>> I saw him do that at Cotto's gym against

13:08a really, really talented young fighter

13:11who's making waves now, and it was the

13:13same thing. This kid has pivots and

13:15speed and angles, and within a minute or

13:18two all that he turned them into a basic

13:20fighter.

13:21>> Mhm.

13:21>> You know, and that that's

13:24That's That's not normal, is what you're

13:25saying.

13:25>> That's That's what he does. That's his

13:27bread and butter, you know what I mean?

13:28And again, like

13:30let me acknowledge you right quick,

13:31Shakur. I'm not saying you ain't all

13:33that, cuz you are all that. I just think

13:36that I know what I know. What I know is

13:38that where you like to be at is where he

13:40likes to be at, and he's long, he's

13:43fast, also intuitive, and the and the

13:45list kind of goes on from there. It's a

13:46really great fight. So, do what you're

13:48supposed to do.

13:49>> Mhm.

13:50Thank you, Shawn.
