0:11Christians believe that the Bible is

0:13revelation from God and base their

0:15beliefs around the words of scriptures

0:18unfortunately most just accept that the

0:20Bible is the complete word of God

0:22without even knowing how when by whom

0:25and by what Authority it came into

0:28existence in order to be absolutely sure

0:30that the Bible is God's word and to

0:33appreciate its message we need to

0:35understand its history and how God

0:38through the Holy Spirit gave us his

0:40inspired message the Bible Greek word

0:43meaning books is God's Divine Love

0:45Letter to us it is the history of God's

0:48family that chose the fall and return to

0:50God by his people the Bible is the

0:53inspired words of God written in the

0:55words of men the complete Bible that we

0:58have today was written approximately

1:00between 2,000 BC and 100 AD the first

1:03half of the Bible is called the Old

1:05Testament because it was written before

1:07the coming of Christ and it contained

1:09the story of God's people and how they

1:12became his chosen family the Old

1:14Testament tells us of the series of

1:16covenants that God made with his people

1:19leading up to the birth of his son Jesus

1:21Christ most of the Old Testament was

1:23written in Hebrew because it was

1:25composed by Jews for the Jewish people

1:28the Old Testament remained in Hebrew

1:29Hebrew until the Babylonian exile when

1:32Jews left Palestine to settle in other

1:34areas as a result the Hebrew language

1:37was replaced by Greek as the main

1:39language for Jews living outside of

1:41Palestine approximately 280 BC the

1:45world's greatest library in Alexandria

1:48obtained books from the Known World

1:50translating them into Greek at this time

1:52the Hebrew Old Testament was translated

1:54by 70 rabbis into the Greek language and

1:57was called the Septuagint the Latin word

2:00meaning 70 the septu aent contained 46

2:04books this Greek translation was the

2:07acknowledged Bible of the Jews and was

2:09the version used by Christ and his

2:11disciples we know that the

2:20septuagesimo of the New Testament over

2:23300 refer to the Septuagint and not the

2:26Hebrew version of scriptures just one

2:29example of this is from Mark 7 6-8 where

2:32Jesus is discussing human tradition he

2:35quotes a version of the passage from

2:37Isaiah

2:382913 found only in the

2:40Septuagint Judaism did not make an

2:43official decision about which books

2:45belong to its Bible until approximately

2:47the end of the first century Jews from a

2:50rabinal school in jvna met around year

2:5380 and among other things discussed the

2:56cannon these leaders rejected seven

2:58books from the septu

3:00and established the Hebrew Cannon this

3:03definition of scriptures was made after

3:05most of the apostles were dead and much

3:07of the New Testament was written these

3:10leaders were extremely anti-christian

3:13they also rejected the New Testament

3:15writings at the time the seven books

3:17that were rejected by these rabbis were

3:19Tobit Judith one and two macbes wisdom

3:24ecclesiasticus burck and portions of

3:27Daniel and Esther this still did not

3:30settle the Pharisee Cannon since not all

3:32Jews agreed with or even knew about the

3:34decision at jvna rabbis continued to

3:37debated into the second and 3dr

3:39centuries even today the Ethiopian Jews

3:43use the Same Old Testament as Catholics

3:46the New Testament was written

3:48approximately between 50 and 100 AD

3:51after Christ ascended to heaven the

3:54early churches did not have the complete

3:56New Testament writings to follow as we

3:58do today but used the oral tradition of

4:00the Apostles to know the truth that was

4:02taught by Jesus as well as the Old

4:04Testament scriptures during that time

4:07however there were hundreds of writings

4:09all claiming to be inspired circulating

4:12among the early churches a few examples

4:15were the The Shepherd of Hermes Gospel

4:18of Thomas acts of John acts of Thomas

4:21acts of Paul and The Apocalypse of Peter

4:24there were an estimated 50 versions of

4:26the gospels and 22 acts in circulation

4:31unfortunately there was not unanimous

4:33consensus among the churches and the

4:35church fathers on which writings were

4:38actually inspired a study of early

4:40Christian history shows that there was a

4:42considerable disagreement among

4:44Christians until the issue of the Canon

4:46was finally settled some early

4:48Christians said that the Book of

4:50Revelations didn't belong in the Canon

4:52God allowed the inspired writings to be

4:54collected into the cannon of the Bible

4:56under the Divine guidance of the Holy

4:58Spirit he worked through the the

4:59authoritative Catholic Church that

5:01Christ established and allowed them to

5:03determine which books were to be

5:04considered inspired scriptures the

5:07church met in councils similar to what

5:09is described in Acts 15 and made the

5:12decision of what books to accept as

5:14inspired a council met in hippo in 393

5:17ad where it selected the 27 books of the

5:20New Testament and ratified the 46 books

5:23of the Old Testament again in 397 ad the

5:27Council of Carthage confirmed and

5:29approved the decrees of the previous

5:31Council Pope Innocent I in 405 ad

5:35approved this African code presently the

5:3727 books of the New Testament and the 46

5:40books of the Old Testament have been

5:42affirmed seven times by a general

5:44Council and three times by an ecumenical

5:46council as a result of these councils

5:49the canonized Bible contains 73

5:52books we have no other assurance that

5:55the Books of Moses the four gospels and

5:58the other books are the True Word of God

6:01but by the cannon of the Catholic Church

6:03St Augustine for the next 1,100 years

6:08the Canon of the Christian Bible

6:10contained 73 books in the 1500s when

6:14Martin Luther rejected the authority of

6:15the Catholic church and started the

6:17Reformation he decided that seven books

6:20in the Old Testament were not on the

6:22same level as the other books in the

6:23Bible he also questioned the inspiration

6:26of four books of the New Testament James

6:29Jude Hebrews and

6:30Revelation today there is a difference

6:33in the number of books and bibles

6:35belonging to Catholics and Protestants

6:37the Catholic Bible contains the original

6:4073 books that were canonized in the 4th

6:42Century while the Protestant Bible

6:44followed Luther's concern of the

6:46inspiration of the seven books in the

6:48Old Testament as a result Protestants

6:51eventually omitted seven books from the

6:53Old Testament and now have only 66 books

6:56in their version however it is

6:59interesting to note that Martin Luther

7:01in the 16th chapter of his commentary on

7:03St John noted we are obliged to yield

7:07many things to the papists the Catholics

7:10that they possess the word of God which

7:12we received from them otherwise we

7:15should have know nothing at all about it

7:17no wonder Catholics find it strange that

7:20some people would rather put their faith

7:21on the authority of Martin Luther than

7:24on the Church of the Living God the

7:26pillar and ground of

7:28Truth
