0:08product. It is extremely easy to do. I'm

0:10going to show you a recipe that will

0:12save you a huge amount of money. Every

0:14household needs this. There's not

0:15probably not one that doesn't use

0:17something very similar. I'm going to

0:18show you a picture right here on the

0:20screen. This is an aisle filled with

0:23very very what I consider to be toxic,

0:26perfumy, really not so good for you that

0:29can cause skin issues, and it definitely

0:32gives me a headache anytime I get around

0:34a washing machine that has this. So,

0:35this product is so easy to make. I'm

0:38going to show you how to make it for

0:39just a few dollars, and it will

0:40absolutely save you a ton of money. So,

0:42follow along one of the easiest recipes

0:44I've ever done. So, guys, this is what

0:47remains of the bucket that's in our

0:48garage next to our washing machine. This

0:50product right here replaces all of those

0:53toxic chemicals, those highly perfumed

0:55industrial products.

0:57The ingredients are something that

0:59you've probably never used before, this

1:00laundry booster, borax, and a type of

1:03soap that most people don't buy, but

1:04this is castile soap. But, we have to

1:06mix these in a very special way, and if

1:08you really love your laundry detergent

1:10have some type of odor, you think it

1:12makes your clothes smell better, I'm

1:14going to show you a completely non-toxic

1:16way, a huge variety of different scents

1:19you can put together, and I'll put that

1:20link in the description when I talk

1:21about that in just 1 second. Now, before

1:23I get started on putting the recipe

1:25together, if you're a member of the

1:37item if you really want to support the

1:39channel. So, let's get started on

1:40putting the entire recipe together in a

1:42matter of minutes, and this will last

1:44anywhere, depending on your family size,

1:46anywhere from 6 months to an entire year

1:48for just a few dollars. It's amazing the

1:50difference in price. Now, I'm going to

1:52move a couple of these items out of the

1:53way so we can do step one. Step one is

1:56taking one bar of soap. Now, depending

1:58on your preference, you can use one bar

2:00or two bars. We need to grate this into

2:03a smaller amount or smaller size because

2:06it will not work properly in its current

2:09state. So, you just need to take a

2:11shredder like this

2:12and

2:13take your bar of castile soap and slowly

2:16shred it into smaller pieces.

2:18And then there's a very very special

2:20process we're going to need to go on to

2:22the next step.

2:26Okay, so we have our

2:27soap grated to it like a cheese

2:29consistency. If you want to break it

2:30down even further, which will help the

2:32process, just run your hand through it

2:34and just kind of wring it out there and

2:35it'll almost become a little bit closer

2:37to a fine powder, but you don't

2:39necessarily have to do that. One piece

2:41of advice I would give you, once this

2:42bucket is completely filled with this

2:44product, it becomes extremely heavy. So,

2:46if you have any type of mobility issues

2:48or strength issues, I would recommend

2:51mixing the formula as close to your

2:52washing machine as possible because it

2:54may become near impossible for some

2:56people who have those issues to move

2:58this to the right location. So, just

3:00remember, if you need to, just make sure

3:02that it's as close to your washer as

3:03possible. So, because I'm in the potting

3:05shed, I don't have a stove out here. I'm

3:06just using this one small burner. So,

3:08you can do this on your kitchen stove,

3:10whatever.

3:11And we're going to add our grated bar

3:13soap.

3:15And next, we need to put in six to eight

3:18cups of water. Now, you can make it

3:19stronger by putting six or a little bit

3:21more diluted by making eight and that'll

3:23just stretch out out even further. So,

3:25we're going to add that.

3:27And I have a stir stick here. It's just

3:28a simple paint stick. So, anytime I go

3:31to my hardware store and I'm buying any

3:32kind of paint, I might get an extra 10

3:34of these just to make sure I have

3:36everything I need when I'm mixing

3:37formulas or recipes inside the

3:39greenhouse. So, these are always handy

3:41to have. Next, we're going to turn on

3:42our heat. We don't want this to be a

3:44heavy boil. We just want it to be warm

3:45to a very very slight simmer. So, let's

3:48do that and allow this to heat up. Now,

3:50this next step, we want to make sure we

3:51do it exactly the way that it is in our

3:53recipe. We want to make sure that we

3:55just slowly stir this until the soap is

3:58completely dissolved. We don't want this

4:00to come to a hard boil, just very very

4:02hot. So, if it's boiling really too

4:04much, that's going to ruin the recipe.

4:06So, just make sure that you're simmering

4:08it and stirring. The process here takes

4:10anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes, and then

4:13your soap will completely dissolve in

4:14our hot water. So, just remember, this

4:16is a critical step is not to overheat

4:19the Castile soap.

4:23Now, another tip on dissolving the soap,

4:26as you go through, just kind of pull it

4:27up from the bottom and make sure you're

4:28not seeing still pieces of the grated

4:31soap in there. Just kind of do this

4:33until you see not nothing but just kind

4:36of a little slightly thicker liquid.

4:38It's not going to be a gel yet, but this

4:40is going to help the overall process.

4:42So, just lightly do it. If you overheat

4:44it, you'll have too much sudsing. You

4:46see these bubbles starting to form.

4:47Maybe my my hot plate is heating it up

4:50too quickly. So, you just want to do

4:51this very slowly. Remember, simmer

4:53simmering on low is the best way to do

4:55this, 10 to 20 minutes. Now, next you

4:57want the cleanest bucket you can get,

4:59and that means buying a new bucket.

5:00You're going to be reusing it over and

5:02over, but you don't want to use any kind

5:03of bucket that's had any type of

5:04chemical, paint, or anything else in it.

5:06So, start with a clean bucket. You can

5:08get really nice buckets from Firehouse

5:11Subs. They sell them to support

5:13firefighters, so that's a very good

5:14cause. You can go to Lowe's and get

5:16these. You can go to bakeries where

5:18there were food products in it, but you

5:19don't want anything that's had an

5:20industrial chemical in it. So, next

5:23we're adding 2 gallons of very hot water

5:25to our bucket. Remember, you don't have

5:27to boil this water, just need it as hot

5:29as you can get it straight out of the

5:30tap.

5:33Now, next we're going to add 1 cup of

5:35our washing soda, Arm & Hammer brand

5:37laundry booster. This is a product

5:38that's been around probably for 100

5:40years, but this is going to help loosen

5:42greasy soil and improve the cleaning

5:46action of the soap. So, it is only going

5:47to take one cup per 5-gallon bucket. So,

5:50remember we don't want to go over cuz

5:52we'll just be wasting some of the

5:54product. We can reuse this for multiple

5:56batches. So, again, we're going to use

5:57one cup in our 5-gallon bucket of

6:00extremely hot water. Now, once you've

6:02added that to your bucket of water, you

6:03want to just slowly stir this for about

6:05anywhere 1 to 2 minutes to make sure

6:08it's completely dissolved in our very,

6:10very hot water. Again, this doesn't have

6:12to be boiling. It doesn't have to be put

6:13on the stove. Straight out of the tap is

6:15fine. So, just remember a good stir for

6:17about 1 to 2 minutes will help dissolve

6:19that in our very hot water. Now, one

6:21important note, a lot of people, because

6:23of the box looking like baking soda,

6:25might think that they can use baking

6:27soda, but the washing soda is

6:28significantly more alkaline. So, you

6:30want to make sure that you get this

6:32exact product and not think you can

6:34substitute a box of baking soda. It's

6:36two totally different products. So, just

6:38remember, you'll find this in your

6:39laundry, I'll probably on the bottom

6:41shelf of the store because it's not sold

6:44near as much, but it is sold on occasion

6:46for people who remember this product and

6:48been using it for decades. So, just make

6:50sure that you don't mix up the two. I

6:52want to make sure I made that point

6:53there. Now, the next ingredient we're

6:54going to put in our borax, and you're

6:56only going to need one cup of this as

6:57well. You don't need to go over there,

6:59and just make sure it's about one cup,

7:01and then add it to our mixture. One

7:03thing to remember is this also needs to

7:04be stirred in before the water loses its

7:07heat. So, just remember, borax is the

7:09next product. Now, I'm going to talk

7:10about something that psychologically

7:12there's a reason people don't make their

7:14own laundry detergent is because they've

7:16become brainwashed by something in

7:18particular when it comes to the

7:20industrial washing products. Now, here's

7:22the psychological reason that most

7:24people don't believe their clothes are

7:26clean unless it has a particular smell.

7:28This set of 100% real, natural

7:32fragrances, or essential oils to be

7:34exact, there's all sorts of fragrances

7:37here. Oil, lemon, anything, pine, any

7:40type, your favorite type of smell that

7:41you get in your laundry detergent. You

7:43can replicate it by adding anywhere from

7:4610 to 20 drops of this. It's a lot

7:48better for your skin. It won't give you

7:50that headache if you're sensitive to

7:51odors like I am. So, just take a look in

7:53the description. You can buy this

7:55online. There's a lot of different

7:57flavors here, there's a lot of different

7:58odors, but they're all natural. I've

8:00never had so much as one headache when I

8:02smell it directly even directly from the

8:03jar. So, just remember, if you prefer

8:06laundry detergents that have a stronger

8:08odor, you can add this to the recipe at

8:10any time during the process. Okay, so

8:12we've dissolved our borax and our

8:14washing soda completely in our very hot

8:17water. Next, we're going to add our

8:18still very hot

8:20water that's melted the castile soap. Be

8:22careful when you're doing this cuz you

8:23can burn yourself. We're going to add

8:25this to the formula.

8:27And we're going to also stir this to

8:29make sure it's completely mixed well for

8:32about 2 to 3 minutes. So, just make sure

8:34that you don't have any clumps. Make

8:35sure there's no existing soap there.

8:37You'll need to get that out but so we

8:39want this to be as smooth and as easy to

8:41work with as possible. So, I'm going to

8:43mix this for a couple minutes and then

8:45we'll be ready to move on to our next

8:46step. Now, at this stage, you can add

8:48any of these flavors of natural oils in

8:51there, but this week I'm going to be

8:52going on a camping trip and I want to

8:54add something that turns my clothes into

8:56a natural mosquito repellent. So, we're

8:58going to use lemon eucalyptus oil about

9:011 tsp, which is quite a bit more than

9:03the 20 drops. This is just for the

9:05fragrance, for our own preference, but

9:07if you want to turn your clothes into a

9:09natural mosquito repellent, use some

9:12lemon eucalyptus natural oil. I'll put a

9:14link in the description for this as

9:16well. That will help naturally repel as

9:18you sweat, as you're out in nature, as

9:20you're hiking, camping, whatever you're

9:22doing outdoors,

9:23that smell will start to emit from your

9:25clothes. So, your shirt, your pants,

9:27your shorts, your socks become a natural

9:30mosquito repellent. So, that's just an

9:31added benefit to making your own washing

9:33detergent is you can add something that

9:35will protect you when you're outdoors as

9:37I'm going to be over the next week or

9:38two. Now, the next step is the critical

9:41part of making this work. You still have

9:43a mostly liquid state here, but you're

9:45going to put a lid on this and cover it

9:47for anywhere from 12 to 24 hours. What

9:50you'll find after that 24-hour sometimes

9:5212-hour mark depending on humidity,

9:54temperature, and things like that, it

9:56will become gel-like consistency, but

9:59the problem is sometimes it's not even

10:01throughout the entire bucket. So, you'll

10:03need to stir it. You may need need to

10:04add hot water and stir that in to help

10:07it just maybe half a cup of hot water.

10:09Stir it in. It helps spread it around

10:11because then you can wait another 12

10:13hours and then you'll have a more

10:15gel-like consistency throughout the

10:17entire bucket. So, remember that's a

10:18critical step not to forget because you

10:20might be disappointed. You'll see liquid

10:22on one side of the bucket and maybe a

10:24gel area in the other. So, just remember

10:26you're wanting to make sure you mix it a

10:27second time if you don't get perfect

10:29results the first 24 hours. Now, once

10:32you've created your gel-like formula,

10:34now we're going to talk about how much

10:35to use per load. I would say that 1/2 of

10:391 cup is fine for a standard load that's

10:41not heavily heavily soiled, but if you

10:44have a high-efficiency washer, you only

10:46need 1 to 2 Tbsp. So, those are not

10:49really designed for really a lots of

10:50suds. You might actually shoot an email

10:52to the manufacturer and find out if this

10:54formula is okay to use in your specific

10:57washing machine because some of the

10:59newer technology may be slightly

11:00different, but most people I would say

11:0299% will be able to use one of those two

11:05amounts and depending on what type of

11:07washer they have. So, just remember

11:09don't overdo it. You don't need a lot of

11:11this. It's very strong. If you do find

11:13that you have extremely soiled clothing,

11:16kids got into the mud or anything like

11:17that, you're going to add 1 Tbsp of the

11:20washing soda to the mix and that will

11:22help boost as well because that's

11:23actually what it's called a laundry

11:25booster. Now, let's talk for a second

11:27about each one of these products. Our

11:28Castile soap is going to help provide

11:31the primary surfactant action. The soap

11:33molecules are going to interact with

11:35this oily soil and water. It's going to

11:38help loosen and carry away body oils,

11:40food residue, and general grime. Next,

11:43our Arm & Hammer Washing Soda is a

11:45sodium carbonate. It's going to raise

11:47the alkalinity, which helps loosen

11:50loosen greasy soil and improve cleaning

11:52where calcium and magnesium in the water

11:54would otherwise interfere. Lastly, our

11:56borax is going to act as a laundry

11:58booster. It can improve the overall

12:00cleaning, and it's going to help with

12:01odors, and it'll improve the full

12:03performance in moderately hard water,

12:05especially on towels and other heavily

12:07used fabrics. So, I talked just a second

12:09ago about laundry booster versus the Arm

12:12& Hammer baking soda. If you want to

12:13help boost, if you have a lot of

12:15problems with odors in your clothes, and

12:16you feel like the original formula

12:18didn't work, then go ahead and add half

12:20a cup of actual baking soda, and that

12:23will help neutralize odors a little bit

12:25more. It'll kind of boost the overall

12:27formula. It's not necessary, but again,

12:29it's an optional item. If you find that

12:31your clothes are kind of coming out with

12:33a little bit more odor, maybe because

12:34you work and you have a lot more

12:37soiled clothing in the long run, so this

12:39might help. If you know going in that

12:41you're going to have heavily soiled

12:43clothing, go ahead and add that to the

12:45overall formula. After you've dissolved

12:47both of these in the formula, then you

12:48can back and add that, and that'll help

12:50boost for odors. So, if you're having a

12:52problem with a particular stain, you can

12:54use castile soap on that exact stain

12:56before you put it into the wash. Just

12:58take the bar of soap, lightly wet the

13:00clothing, and then rub the bar over that

13:01area, and then work it into the soil

13:03with either a laundry brush or your

13:04fingers themselves, and that can help

13:06break it up. If you wait about 10

13:07minutes before you put it into the wash,

13:09that definitely can act as kind of a

13:11stain remover, an all-natural stain

13:13remover without any harsh chemicals. So

13:15guys, if you're living on a budget, this

13:17truly is like white gold. It can reduce

13:19your cost for laundry detergent down to

13:21pennies per load. It's really works

13:24well. I hate the smell of those

13:25industrial chemicals, the perfumes and

13:28dyes and other things they add in there

13:30can cause you to have a skin reaction.

13:32It can cause headaches from just

13:34smelling those extremely artificial

13:37smells. I can't stand anything like

13:38that. It's got to be all natural for me.

13:40So, just take a look at the description
