0:00Kais can guide. I be witness that is

0:02right to be worshiped except Allah

0:04subhanana wa ta'ala alone without any

0:06partner and I testify

0:10is his final prophet and messenger.

0:14We praise Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for

0:17granting us the ability to be in a

0:20circle from amongst the circles of his

0:22remembrance and we ask that allahel

0:25makes our [clears throat] coming out

0:26this evening sincerely for his sake.

0:30We also ask allahel

0:32to grant us benefit in whatever we learn

0:35this evening and then grant us the

0:36ability to practice upon it.

0:39So as we know the theme of our class is

0:45based upon

0:47the book

0:51beneficial means towards attaining a

0:54happy life. And last week we discussed

0:56that for amongst the greatest ways of

0:58achieving contented contentedness and

1:01happiness it is through

1:05it is by remembering allahel in

1:08abundance and remembering allah

1:10subhanahu wa ta'ala by way of the

1:12supplications and the remembrances which

1:15is established in the book of Allah and

1:18the sunnah of the prophetatam.

1:22And we ended our class off by mentioning

1:25two or three supplications

1:27which the author mentioned in this book

1:30which is the great means of attaining

1:32sahada. It's a great means of attaining

1:34happiness and these applications. It is

1:38also a great way for the Muslim to avert

1:41from himself anxiety, worries and

1:44distress. And so we rush through the

1:47explanation of this dua. But before we

1:50continue with the reading of the book,

1:53we'd like to revisit these supplications

1:55inshallah and explain it.

1:59So the author said

2:03and from amongst the most beneficial

2:06means one can use with regards

2:10to future events is

2:14dua. He's using this dua which he will

2:16mention which the prophet wasam used to

2:20supplicate by way of and the dua is

2:44So she

2:46mentions that this is a tremendous

2:49application and it is

2:53reported in Sah Muslim and is from

2:56amongst the most beneficial

2:57supplications

2:59and the most encompassing with regards

3:03to attaining the goodness of this world

3:07and the goodness of the

3:10so when the Muslim hears this that this

3:12is a comprehensive dua with regards to

3:15attaining the goodness of the life of

3:16this world and the goodness of the what

3:20must the Muslim's response be

3:23you must be eager to learn this dua now

3:27and he says that if you look closely at

3:30what the prophet sallallam asked for in

3:32this dua the prophet sallallam asked

3:36from Allah to rectify for him three

3:39matters.

3:49And if allahel rectifies these three

3:51matters for the believer, then all of

3:54his affairs is set right. And so what

3:57are the three matters which the prophet

3:59asked for?

4:04Oh Allah, rectify for me my religion and

4:08rectify for me my worldly life and

4:11rectify for me my

4:14and it is becoming of a Muslim

4:17that he is diligent with regards to

4:19making this dua

4:21and that he makes this dua often and

4:24that he must be

4:27he must reach the level of conviction

4:30that

4:32There is nothing that can rectify for

4:34him his religion

4:36or his worldly life or his except if

4:41Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala rectifies this

4:44for him and in later or the next chapter

4:48which the author will bring the concept

4:50of

4:52true reliance upon allahel that we have

4:55no benefit we cannot benefit ourselves

4:58with regards to our religion our worldly

5:01life or the hereafter except if Allah

5:03rectifies this for us. And so the

5:06rectification of a human and of a

5:09Muslim, it lies with Allah subhanahu wa

5:12ta'ala. And it's not possible to achieve

5:15rectification

5:16except if allahel rectifies these

5:18matters for us.

5:23dua and for this reason the prophet

5:25sallall alaihi wasallam he was

5:26persistent with regards to making this

5:29application.

5:33Oh Allah rectify for my religion which

5:36is the foundation of all of my affairs

5:43and rectify for me my worldly life

5:47wherein is my living.

5:52and rectify for me my hereafter wherein

5:55is my final abode.

5:58And make life a means of increase for me

6:01with regards to all forms of good and

6:03make death a means of comfort and

6:06relaxation from every evil.

6:10This is a dua that if a person sees this

6:13often, he will see by the word of

6:16Allahel

6:18the effects or the effects of this dua

6:20in his life. He will see the effects of

6:23this dua in his religion. We complain

6:27about the fact that we are weak in

6:29faith, that we can't increase in our

6:32worship, that we can't rectify

6:35the state of our hearts. But these

6:38matters are all with Allah subhana wa

6:40tala

6:44and he will see the rectification in his

6:46worldly life

6:48because in this dua there is reliance

6:51upon Allah alone and turning to Allah

6:53subhanahu wa ta'ala to rectify for us

6:56all of our affairs.

6:58And so the person she abdua

7:05and he says this dua often he will see

7:07the effects of this dua. It will rectify

7:10for him his worldly life and it will

7:12rectify for him his religion because

7:17all of the affairs the affairs of the dy

7:22and the affairs of the it is in the

7:25hands of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And

7:28if one is truthful with Allah subhanahu

7:30wa ta'ala in his dua and he makes this

7:32dua and he's persistent upon it, Allah

7:35subhanahu wa ta'ala will grant him what

7:37he asks and Allahel will bring into

7:40existence what he hopes for. This is the

7:43first dua. Who knows this dua?

7:54Repeat after me. Allah

7:57foreign.

8:37a supplication that must be part of the

8:39Muslim's daily life. This is the first

8:42supplication.

8:44The second supplication is the

8:46supplication

8:48which the author brings and he says

8:50likewise the supplication wherein the

8:52prophet said

9:06and you'll see it carries the same

9:08meanings.

9:10Oh Allah it is for your mercy that I

9:13help

9:18So don't leave me to myself

9:22for the blink of an eye.

9:28And rectify for me all of my affairs.

9:32There's no deity worthy of worship

9:34except you. So when the prophet said

9:39rectify for me all of my affairs, it

9:42encompasses

9:44what the prophet asked for in the

9:45previous dua. And and what did the

9:47prophet ask for rectification of

9:50religion?

9:55and

9:58rectify for me all of my affairs which

10:02is reported in the of

10:05the hadith of

10:08that the prophet said

10:11that this is the supplication

10:13of the one who is in distress

10:16right many people are in distress

10:20many people feel helpless why because

10:25perhaps they rely upon themselves and

10:28they let themselves down or they rely

10:31upon a mean which is legislated but they

10:34put all of their hopes upon the means.

10:38But the one who truly relies upon Allah

10:40subhanahu wa ta'ala and he find himself

10:43in distress and he calls out to Allah

10:46subhanahu wa ta'ala sincerely will

10:48allahel respond to that supplication.

10:52Allahel says,

11:00"Is allahel not the one who responds to

11:03the one who is in a state of distress

11:06and despair

11:09and he removes the evil." Allahel is the

11:12one who hears all of our supplications

11:15and he's the one who sees the condition

11:19of his. So if the turns to him sincerely

11:22for relief from difficulties and

11:25hardships and the person takes the means

11:28as well for relief he will find that

11:31redee will come. So the prophet said,

11:36"The dua of the one in distress

11:40is this dua

11:42that this dua

11:44it is established upon relying upon

11:48Allah.

11:50Allah,

11:52oh Allah, it is your mercy that I

11:55hopeful, no one else's." And this always

11:59shows

12:03It also shows

12:05our neediness in front of Allah that we

12:08are in need of allahel

12:10for all of our affairs. And this is how

12:12the Sahabah

12:15work that they sought the great matters

12:19from Allah just like they sought the

12:23dismal or small matters from allahel

12:26that they used to ask Allahawel

12:29even for

12:31the laces that they used to tie their

12:33shoes and the salah would supplicate to

12:35allahel for the salt that they would

12:38throw in their bread. So for every

12:40matter great or what we consider to be

12:44small we are reliant upon Allah and we

12:48are in need of Allahel and this is what

12:50is made clear where the prophet said

12:57don't leave me to my own abilities for

13:02the blink of an eye because I am in need

13:04of you ya Allah and some people as Abdak

13:08mentions

13:09they add in the supplication.

13:16So they say

13:25nor a moment lesser than this. So some

13:28scholars say is the the briefest moment

13:32that can pass you by the blink of an

13:34eye. What can you achieve within the

13:37blink of an eye? nothing. Right? But

13:39then some people add to this and this

13:43addition to the dua is not authentically

13:46established. He says because

13:52one brief moment and this has not been

13:54reported in the authentic version of the

13:56dua and the authentic supplications of

13:59the prophet does not require any

14:03increase or decrease. We stick to what

14:05the prophet said.

14:09So,

14:14don't leave me to myself with a blink of

14:15an eye.

14:19And rectify for me all of my affairs.

14:22And this we mentioned, it ties in with

14:24the other dua. Rectify for me all of my

14:27affairs. encompasses

14:29din

14:31and a

14:34din and a. So this dua

14:38is a request for rectification with

14:41regards to future events. future events

14:46in terms of one's dean and one's

14:49and the author said

14:55when one makes this dua and the person

14:59makes these these supplications

15:04with an attentive heart

15:08and a sincere intention.

15:14and he also takes the means to make this

15:17a reality

15:19then allahel will grant him what he what

15:22he asked for and this is the that he

15:25mentioned previously that dua

15:29can benefit if the person simply makes

15:30it it's up to allahel to respond but dua

15:34is based upon taking the means now that

15:38if the person makes a supplication to

15:41allahel

15:42to alleviate him

15:45from poverty. What must the person do?

15:50He must make effort to seek halal risk.

15:54If the person is physically ill and the

15:57person is sick, the is the person can

16:01can resort to right. He can use

16:05supplications from the Quran and the

16:07Sunnah to remedy himself. But it doesn't

16:12rule out seeking help with regards to

16:16medical professionals. This is part of

16:18taking the means. Just like if he's a

16:21young person that wants to get married,

16:23what must he do? He must put himself out

16:26there, right? He must build himself up.

16:30He must make sure he can stand on his

16:31feet. And then if he does this, allahel

16:35will actualize for him what he asked

16:36for. As Allahel says

16:47that those who strive in our way, Allah

16:50says

16:52we will guide them to our paths. And

16:55indeed allahel is with those who excel

16:58in their deeds.

17:00So

17:02this dua is a dua that can be used with

17:05regards to future events that if a

17:08person has worry and concern over the

17:11future, he must utilize this dua because

17:14this dua is an effective means of giving

17:18the person ease and comfort.

17:21She abdings another dua and he says

17:32There's another of

17:37when he said that the prophet sallallam

17:39said to his daughter Fatima.

17:42He said

17:49the prophet said,

17:51"What prevented you

17:54from saying what I advise you to say

18:02that you say each and every single time

18:04you wake up in the morning and each and

18:06every single time you reach the evening.

18:24So look at this dua. The dua which the

18:26prophet advised his beloved daughter

18:32and he answered the question. Oh fatima,

18:35what prevented you from uttering that

18:36which I advise you to say that you say

18:39each and every single morning and each

18:40and every single evening. So from this

18:42we learn that this is from the

18:46it is from the supplications that must

18:49be said in the morning and in the

18:52evening. in the morning after and in the

18:56evening from after

19:00the dua is

19:02calling out to allahel by his beautiful

19:04names

19:09by your mercy do I seek aid and

19:15is seeking the help of allahel in

19:17difficult times and is a type of dua

19:22that when The believer goes through

19:25distress and even the non-believer

19:28who do they call out to

19:32they call out to allahel sincerely

19:35even

19:38an atheist

19:40the one who rejects that God exists and

19:43this is only based upon a shouha a doubt

19:48because we know that allahel

19:50has created all human beings with

19:54The natural innate disposition

19:57hadith.

20:07Each and every single newborn is born

20:09upon the

20:11innate disposition to believe in a

20:14creator. Then the parents make them

20:18Jews, Christians or fire worshippers.

20:21Whatever religion the parents follow,

20:23that person naturally follow suit.

20:26[snorts]

20:27So we said that even the atheist and I

20:30saw a clip once of a person who jumped

20:34out of a plane and his parachute failed

20:38and it was gliding and he couldn't

20:40control it.

20:43And

20:45the person was in such distress

20:47that the person forgot that he was an

20:50atheist. The person called out, "Oh God,

20:53oh God."

20:55And this is something which allahel

20:57confirms

20:59in the Quran

21:08that when the people are out at sea

21:12and the ship is about to capsize, what

21:16do they do? They call out to allahel

21:19sincerely. And this is with regard to

21:22the people of

21:24And Allah says that when Allahel

21:27takes him safely to the shore, what do

21:29they do then again? They return to their

21:32shik. The point here is is that in times

21:35of difficulty

21:37the believer and the non-believer they

21:41call upon allahel sincerely and this is

21:43the concept of

21:47is a type of dua which takes effect

21:51in difficulty. So the prophet said

21:58rectify for me all of my affairs.

22:04and don't leave me to myself for the

22:06blink of an eye. And this was Muhammad

22:12Abdah

22:14that worship of Allahel who reached the

22:17level

22:18of being a true servant of Allah as

22:21allahel described him.

22:29If you are in doubt concerning that

22:30which we have revealed to our and we

22:34commonly translate as slave but we say

22:39worship aer slave it's that worshipper

22:42that has reached the level of true

22:44servitude to Allah this is that abdahel

22:48who was forgiven

22:50all of his previous sins and that which

22:53was still to to come but yet the

22:55actualized servitude to Allah. And the

22:58prophet also approach is is that he

23:00turned to Allah. He said, "It is for

23:01your mercy. It is through your mercy

23:04that I seek deliverance.

23:08Rectify for me all of my affairs and do

23:11not deem myself

23:14do not leave me to myself for even the

23:16blink of an eye." So she abd mentions

23:21that this hadith of an wherein is the

23:25advice of the prophet to his daughter

23:27Fatima

23:30and that this is from the daily

23:31supplications that the prophet wasallam

23:34was consistent upon that the Muslim must

23:37make this dua each and every single

23:39morning and each and every single

23:42evening that he asked Allah subhanahu wa

23:44ta'ala to rectify for him all of his

23:46affairs.

23:48and [snorts] that he does not leave

23:51himself by the word of Allah to his own

23:54abilities even for the blink of an eye.

23:57And in this dua, it is the reality of

24:02that he submits himself to Allah and

24:06that he resigns all of his affairs to

24:09Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and he relies

24:12upon Allah and he makes his need of

24:15Allahawel

24:17known

24:19and that he shows that he has no ability

24:22to bring himself any benefit or ward of

24:25any harm. And then he ask allahel to

24:27rectify for him all of his affairs. So

24:32these supplications

24:34are tremendous supplications that the

24:37Muslim must make on a daily basis. Must

24:40be part of his daily supplication that

24:43he makes as the prophet sallall alaihi

24:44wasallam used to make these

24:45supplications.

24:47But also in relation to the topic that

24:48we are discussing

24:51depression and anxiety we see that in

24:54the sunnah there is a remedy for the

24:58ailments that many people are suffering

25:00from today

25:06and many people are unaware of the fact

25:10that in our religion Allah subhanahu wa

25:13ta'ala has revealed a cure for every

25:17disease

25:18right as the hadith of the prophet

25:21mentions that there's not a single

25:23disease except that Allah subhanahu wa

25:26ta'ala has reveal revealed a cure

25:35whosoever knows the cure they know it

25:38and whooever is ignorant of it they are

25:41ignorant of it so many people they

25:45resort to psychologist, a psychiatrist

25:50and they prescribe medication

25:53and this medication helps the person to

25:55a certain level but most of the time it

25:59never actually remedies the problem

26:02because the problem it often lies in the

26:05person's weak reliance upon allahel and

26:10not knowing the effects of the religion

26:13which it has upon the person in relation

26:15to the wellbeing. So the person who goes

26:19through difficulties like this but he

26:21has im and he has

26:25he's more equipped to deal with these

26:28types of situations and allahel knows

26:31best.

26:33The next chapter the author brings he

26:35mentions

26:36fossil. The next chapter

26:40he mentions.

26:49He says from amongst the most

26:53beneficial means of removing anxiety

26:58and whom we can say grief.

27:04that when the the worship of allahel

27:09faces any type of calamities

27:21that when the calamity hits and the

27:24calamities will come as we mentioned

27:27that sometimes a person has the

27:30understanding or the outlook that a

27:32happy life means a life that is free

27:34from distress

27:36and a life that is free from unhappiness

27:40and a life that is free from any

27:42difficulty. But this is what we refer to

27:45as a

27:47it is something which is an illusion

27:51that if allahel blesses a person in the

27:54dunya do you think that this person does

27:56not face any type of challenges perhaps

28:00at times the person can face more

28:02challenges

28:04if the person is blessed by allahel in

28:06the dy he's not tested in another way so

28:09the test will certainly come and when

28:12the has come. The sheh mentions

28:16that the best way to face the trials is

28:24is that when the trial hits you,

28:27you

28:28imagine

28:30the worst of outcomes

28:39that you try to imagine the worst

28:41possible outcome. So this means that the

28:44calamity hit the calamity straight.

28:50For example, the person was in an

28:52accident

28:55and alhamdulillah

28:58the person broke

29:00some limbs.

29:02So what must this person do in the

29:03situation?

29:07He must imagine the worst possible

29:08outcome and that is that yes he lost his

29:12car. His car was written off but another

29:15person was in an accident like of this

29:17lost his life.

29:20Now we gave the example from the lives

29:24of the salaf

29:26who when they were trial they looked at

29:29the trial as a blessing.

29:32We mentioned the instance of

29:35Zubam

29:37that on a single day he lost

29:41he lost his one of his limbs and he lost

29:44one of his sons and in that calamity

29:48which is a calamity he praised Allah and

29:52the people wanted to know how does he

29:53praise allahel in this circumstance he

29:56said I praise allahawel

29:59for granting me four limbs he took one

30:03and he caused three to remain and he

30:06says I Praise Allah subhanana wa ta'ala

30:07for granting me four kids, four sons. He

30:13took one and he caused three to remain.

30:16So if the person looks at life and the

30:19of allahel through this lens, then it

30:23makes the burden of the calamity easier

30:26to bear. now by striking a munner

30:31and imagine the worst possib possible

30:33outcome which could have existed

30:36that somebody might see the car that the

30:38person was in and the car is written off

30:41and they ask the question how did you

30:43survive? So the fact that the person

30:45still has life that is a blessing. So by

30:49thinking of the worst possible outcome

30:52by way of this it lightens the burden.

30:56And the author says

31:04and if he does this

31:08he must also accompany this by trying to

31:11lighten the burden of whatever he can

31:14according to his capability.

31:23And if the person does this, the person

31:26will lift from him a state of grief and

31:30despair.

31:41The author then says,

31:58So he says that when the reasons for

32:01fear

32:03and the reasons for difficulty such as

32:06illnesses and poverty and any decree

32:10come to the person

32:13of what he loves.

32:15of all the things which is beloved to

32:17him and he faces a loss. He says let him

32:20meet this loss with contentment

32:24and a firm self.

32:34He says because when he faces the

32:36difficult

32:40and he prepares himself to meet the

32:42difficult decrees it lightens the burden

32:45of the difficult decree

32:49and it removes the difficulty especially

32:53when the person buries himself with

32:56warding off that difficulty

32:59according to his ability.

33:02No according to his ability. So this

33:05means

33:07he's mentioning over here is that the

33:10sheh is mentioning to us here another

33:12reason for multi reasons how to ward off

33:16grief and sorrow

33:19and to also live from our our states

33:22difficulty

33:24things which give difficulty to the

33:25heart and how we meet these situations.

33:29And this is when the when the abd of

33:32allahel

33:34is afflicted with a calamity

33:36and when he is faced with a difficulty

33:40and no doubt the difficulties will come

33:47and these difficulties gives him despair

33:49and it gives him anxiety.

33:52What must he do in this situation?

33:55Abdazak says

34:01that he must take the means to remove

34:05this sorrow from him and this anxiety

34:09because when the person dwells on the

34:12situations of grief and loss and sorrow,

34:16he says there is no benefit in this and

34:20there is no

34:22and he says he we have already mentioned

34:25that the prophet used to see grieve from

34:31in the supplication which we talked

34:33previously.

34:39The prophet sought refuge from this.

34:42Why? Because there's nothing which is

34:45more beloved to shan than a sad believer

34:49than a believer who dwells

34:52upon his calamities. And he allows this

34:56to preoccupy him and overcome him.

35:01When the person reaches this level, then

35:03Shayan plays with that person's im and

35:07it caused him to have bad thoughts of

35:09Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

35:11[clears throat] So he says when an ab is

35:14afflicted with a calamity,

35:16a calamity which causes him pain in the

35:19heart

35:20and it causes him sorrow.

35:27Then he must also look to means which

35:30rid himself of this grief and the sorrow

35:33and dispel from him grieve.

35:37So the sheh says that when the calamity

35:40hits he must try with regards to

35:44to um lightening it and one such way he

35:47says this is achieved is through

35:51imagining the worst possible outcome. So

35:54the person face some type of loss

35:58whether it be in terms of his worldly

36:01life right and then when this calamity

36:04strikes

36:06the person must think of the worst

36:07possible outcome and Abdul Raak says

36:10that we'll give an example of this a

36:13person who is in a car accident

36:17and the person he breaks a few limbs

36:21right and he loses his

36:24in the process and this causes the

36:28person some type of sadness and some

36:30type of despair due to that which has

36:34happened.

36:35He says

36:41and in the situation if he thought of

36:42the worst possible outcome the person

36:46would have said even in that

36:47circumstance the person would have said

36:51alhamdulillah

36:53that the person broke a limb but allahel

36:56did not cause him to become paralyzed.

36:59For example,

37:01the person lost

37:03a car that is valuable

37:08and that he cannot perhaps recover but

37:11Allahel still save the person's life.

37:14Right? So

37:17he must think of the worst possible

37:20outcome.

37:21And if the person does this,

37:24he will lighten the burden of the

37:26difficulty and

37:32and he will push away from himself evil

37:36and calamities which is greater than

37:39that which actually had happened.

37:41Because a person dwells on this, we said

37:43something which happened and he thinks

37:45about this all the time and this

37:47preoccupies him. it causes him

37:50depression.

37:52So the person spirals into a state of

37:55depression as a result of dwelling on

37:58that thing which has happened and he

37:59cannot change.

38:01Then the author mentioned

38:04another method how a person can relieve

38:06distresses from himself is

38:12that he strive to lighten whatever he

38:15can of the difficulties which has

38:17befallen him.

38:19And by way of this he will remove from

38:22himself

38:23despair and sorrow. So two methods the

38:27author mentions here. The first is

38:31to think about the worst possible

38:33outcome. Right? And when he thinks about

38:37this the actual outcome would become

38:41latent

38:43would become latent. The second is is

38:46that he strives

38:48to take the means

38:51which lift the difficulty which has

38:54transpired.

38:56Right?

39:06that he meets all of these difficult

39:08decrees which come his way

39:12with a heart which is contented

39:15and he meets this with a firm self

39:19in all circumstances

39:21because Abdak says

39:27is that bounties

39:29does not remain forever.

39:33You have the blessing of health. May

39:36Allah grant us af

39:46become old and you'll be tested right

39:49with old age. You have the blessing of

39:52wealth. May Allah brothers af

39:55one day the test will come and you'll be

39:58test and trial with poverty.

40:00So he says that

40:04that the circumstances change. Some days

40:07are good and some days are difficult. So

40:11the person must prepare himself for

40:13every situation. If the situation is in

40:16his favor,

40:18the author already mentioned to us how

40:20we meet these situations with

40:23gratitude. If allahel [snorts]

40:26decrees for you something good, you meet

40:28it with gratitude. If allahel tests you

40:31with some type of difficulty, you meet

40:34it with

40:35so the person prepares himself for all

40:38circumstances and he knows that this is

40:43that the is a boat of test and we are

40:48going to be tested.

40:55and that

40:57and all of the of

41:00that he can be be presented with test

41:03and trials at any moment. Allahel said

41:08[snorts]

41:09that we will test you with evil

41:14and goodness.

41:19Allahel said that we will test you

41:22with good and with evil and to us you

41:26will return. So he prepared himself for

41:28this

41:30by losing something which is beloved to

41:32him or something which he fears and he

41:36prepares himself for this and he knows

41:38that whatever befalls him it is only by

41:41the will of Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala.

41:45Now we stop at this point in we continue

41:48after

59:40Alhamdulillah.

59:46Now we mention next segment. The author

59:48brings me the author mentions

1:00:12English.

1:00:14It's too much like words. So read

1:00:16>> [clears throat]

1:00:18>> Chapter the strength of the heart and

1:00:20its resistance to disturbance and

1:00:22agitation.

1:00:23Among the greatest remedies for actioned

1:00:26hearts and even for physical illnesses

1:00:29is the strength of the heart and is

1:00:31resistant to disturbance and agitation

1:00:33by the illusions and imaginations born

1:00:36by negative thoughts. Anger and

1:00:38confusion are among the painful pauses

1:00:41and the anticipation of adversities and

1:00:43the loss of beloved things plunges one

1:00:46into worries, sorrows and diseases of

1:00:48the heart and body

1:00:51as well as nervous breakdowns which have

1:00:53harmful effects that people have

1:00:55witnessed in many detrimental

1:00:57consequences.

1:00:59relies upon Allah but the heart relies

1:01:01upon Allah and places it trust in him

1:01:05without succumbing to illusions or being

1:01:07dominated by negative imaginations and

1:01:10it trusts in Allah and hopes for his

1:01:12grace then worries and griefs are driven

1:01:15away and many physical spiritual

1:01:18elements are removed and the heart

1:01:21strength openness and joy they couldn't

1:01:23cannot be expressed how many hospitals

1:01:26are filled with patients suffering from

1:01:29illusions and corrupt imaginations. And

1:01:32how much have these matters affected the

1:01:34hearts of many strong individuals, let

1:01:37alone the weak, yielding to foolishness

1:01:39and madness. The one who is protected is

1:01:42the one whom Allah has protected and

1:01:44guided to strive against his own self to

1:01:47acquire beneficial means that strengthen

1:01:49the heart and dispel its anxiety. Allah

1:01:53Almighty says, "Whoever puts his trust

1:01:56in Allah, he's sufficient for him.

1:01:59i.e. grants him sufficiency in all

1:02:01matters concerning his religious and

1:02:03worldly affairs.

1:02:08Now so this segment

1:02:11it deals with

1:02:14and reliance upon Allah subhanahu wa

1:02:16ta'ala and

1:02:18he mentions that this is also an

1:02:20important issue with regards to worry

1:02:24and grief and with regards to removing

1:02:27and removing anxiety from oneself

1:02:30that the person strives to strengthen

1:02:33his heart when when these things

1:02:35afflicts him. And he says the way how

1:02:38the heart is strengthened.

1:02:43The heart is only strengthened through

1:02:45one means and this is by strengthening

1:02:50the im by strengthening the im. As we

1:02:54mentioned last week that the prophet

1:02:57said

1:03:02that in this body there is piece of

1:03:04flesh. If it is sound, the entire body

1:03:06will be sound. And if it is corrupted,

1:03:09the entire body will be corrupted. And

1:03:10it is the

1:03:13So the strength of the heart is what

1:03:14takes effect in times of difficulties.

1:03:18And the heart controls the body.

1:03:21Contrary to what western medicine might

1:03:25say is that the mind controls the body.

1:03:28In Islam, the heart actually controls

1:03:31the body. So the heart is strengthened

1:03:33through iman. And it is not possible

1:03:38to strengthen the heart except by having

1:03:42trust in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and

1:03:45having reliance upon Allah

1:03:48and assigning all of our affairs to

1:03:52Allahel.

1:03:57As the prophet said that all of my

1:04:00success it is only by the will of Allah

1:04:04subhanahu wa ta'ala and that the person

1:04:07submits to the divine decree of allahel.

1:04:10So the Muslim is in need of

1:04:12strengthening the heart

1:04:15and he says that how does one attain

1:04:19how does one attain strengthening of the

1:04:21heart? while attain strengthening of the

1:04:23heart through

1:04:26firstly

1:04:28by way of seeking knowledge. This is the

1:04:31first step towards strengthening the

1:04:33heart. Knowing for example that

1:04:36calamities will be fall. And what is the

1:04:39perspective of the Muslim with regards

1:04:40to calamities that we mentioned

1:04:42previously that calamities are not

1:04:45because allahel wants

1:04:48evil for you. But a calamity can be a

1:04:52means of allahel experating your sins

1:04:55and exalting your

1:04:59so by way of knowledge give the person

1:05:02the correct outlook and perspective. He

1:05:05says also

1:05:08that there's nothing which strengthens

1:05:09the

1:05:12other than the Quran or the like of the

1:05:15Quran. When the person recites the Quran

1:05:19with

1:05:22with contemplation over its meanings

1:05:24just like he says also reading about

1:05:28matters of the heart because many a many

1:05:31scholars have written books on the

1:05:36that the heart has certain actions which

1:05:39is specific to the heart and it has

1:05:42which is specific to the heart. So

1:05:44gaining knowledge of this also

1:05:46strengthens.

1:05:48And he says

1:05:53up until the Muslim strengthened himself

1:05:56by way of these deeds, by way of

1:06:01by way of having trust in allahel,

1:06:05by way of ascribing all of your affairs

1:06:08to Allah and making your need and your

1:06:13impoverishness known to Allah subhanahu

1:06:15wa ta'ala and the heart is strengthened.

1:06:24that the heart is also strengthened

1:06:27through having hope of that which lies

1:06:30with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala alone

1:06:33such as the reward which allahel

1:06:36has kept up for those who have patience

1:06:39that we mention that there are certain

1:06:40deeds for which allahel has not

1:06:43designated a specific reward so having

1:06:48with that which is that Allah subhana wa

1:06:50ta'ala also strengthens the heart

1:06:52and he mentioned many other ways

1:06:55and he says strengthening the heart by

1:06:58way of these means

1:07:02that the person reads

1:07:05the books which has been written in

1:07:07relation to the rewards for actions of

1:07:10the hearts and that he also reads the

1:07:13texts and he'll mention some of these

1:07:15texts also mention

1:07:17which has come in the Quran and of its

1:07:19positive benefits such as Allah says

1:07:29that the condition is that whosoever

1:07:31relies upon Allah Allah will suffice it.

1:07:34So if a Muslim read this it gives him

1:07:38strength of what? It gives him the hope

1:07:41of relying upon Allah and to attain that

1:07:44which is Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And

1:07:47he says

1:07:50when the heart is strong

1:07:56it will push away these things which

1:07:59give it grief and which give it sorrow.

1:08:03And he says the opposite of this as

1:08:05well.

1:08:10when the heart is weak then it becomes

1:08:14shaken at times of the calamities

1:08:17that people who are weak of faith they

1:08:20do not know how to deal with calamities

1:08:23a Muslim has perspective with regards to

1:08:26calamities we know how to deal with the

1:08:29loss of loved ones we know how to deal

1:08:32with the loss of prophets we know how to

1:08:34deal with some type of fear to fix

1:08:39So he says if the heart is weak it will

1:08:42become

1:08:43shaky at times of calamities

1:08:48and it will move with the person's

1:08:50imaginations [snorts]

1:08:53and the person's illusions

1:08:58and that which is presented to the heart

1:09:01of bad thoughts. Now if the person does

1:09:05not have a strong heart then he succumbs

1:09:09to his imaginations because he always

1:09:11thinks the worst of possibilities and

1:09:15this might be

1:09:17or this might seem as a contradiction.

1:09:21What the author is saying here is is

1:09:24that the person mustn't think of things

1:09:27that can happen in the future because

1:09:29many of these things most of the time it

1:09:32is only imaginations

1:09:34that we have some type of fear regarding

1:09:36a future event but when that event takes

1:09:38place it is unlike you imagined as

1:09:42opposed to what the author mentioned

1:09:43previously that when the calamity hits

1:09:46it has the calamity has befell you then

1:09:49you must think of the worst possible

1:09:50outcome.

1:09:51but not when the calamity did not yet

1:09:54take effect. That's the difference. So

1:09:57he says

1:10:04he says because some people's hearts are

1:10:07weak. They overcome with bad thoughts.

1:10:12And these bad thoughts could prevent the

1:10:14person from sleep. And this is common

1:10:18that the person becomes so anxious

1:10:21that he he cannot sleep at night that he

1:10:24becomes overly concerned regarding a

1:10:27future event

1:10:29which is beyond his control that he

1:10:31thinks so much about this that he's

1:10:34unable to sleep. And he says

1:10:38and it also prevents him from being at

1:10:40ease.

1:10:46And this is as a result of no other

1:10:48thing besides bad thoughts which he has

1:10:52presented to his heart.

1:10:58And also based upon imaginary things

1:11:02which he bases other things upon. So

1:11:04none of these things have occurred. The

1:11:07person might have a good life, but he

1:11:09fears that in the future he's going to

1:11:11be faced with some type of poverty and

1:11:13he becomes overcome with these thoughts.

1:11:16And these are all imaginations and he

1:11:18bases these imaginations upon other

1:11:20imaginations.

1:11:22And so

1:11:25the person becomes ill as a result of

1:11:27this

1:11:31despite the fact that it is only

1:11:34illusions and imaginary things.

1:11:44So this thing it it disturbs him and it

1:11:46causes him anxiety and it corrupts his

1:11:49thoughts.

1:11:52and it takes away his his peacefulness

1:11:56and his his sleep

1:12:00and it's only a result of imaginations.

1:12:04So he says

1:12:08and the only remedy

1:12:11for

1:12:13imaginations

1:12:15and imaginary thoughts is strengthening

1:12:17the heart and strengthening the heart is

1:12:19attained by im

1:12:21reliance upon Allah and trusting in

1:12:23Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala alone

1:12:27and he says that when an individual

1:12:30strengthens his heart then these oh

1:12:36it

1:12:38moves away from the person and if the

1:12:40person doesn't strengthen his heart he

1:12:42then befalls and it becomes prey obvious

1:12:45his thoughts

1:12:47the author they mentioned

1:12:52When the person's heart relies upon

1:12:54Allah and he trusts in Allah subhanahu

1:12:57wa ta'ala and he does not submit to his

1:13:00imaginations

1:13:02nor is he controlled by his thoughts

1:13:06and he trusts in Allah and he has hope

1:13:08in that which is allahel

1:13:14then by way of this grief and sorrow is

1:13:17removed from the person

1:13:22And he says, "And many

1:13:26physical sicknesses

1:13:28and sicknesses of the mind is removed

1:13:31from the person

1:13:36and the heart becomes strengthened and

1:13:40the heart becomes the chest becomes

1:13:41expansive and the person experiences joy

1:13:47which cannot be translated into words

1:13:57and he says that how many hospitals have

1:13:59become filled only because of people's

1:14:02imaginations and because of people's

1:14:05illusions now so the author is

1:14:09mentioning and this is long before

1:14:13mental health became a discussion

1:14:17I can't recall the year died but in the

1:14:19early maybe 1960s somewhere around there

1:14:23now and today this has become like the

1:14:26ailment of the age that the hospitals

1:14:29have become filled with people suffering

1:14:32from depression

1:14:34and anxiety and the likes of this what

1:14:37did he say the reason is due to what he

1:14:39just a result of

1:14:43having a weak heart and not having

1:14:47reliance upon Allah subhana wa tala nor

1:14:49trusting allahel

1:14:52so he says that hospitals have only

1:14:54become full because of this reason

1:15:02and how many people have been afflicted

1:15:04with this he says of people who are

1:15:08deemed to be strong

1:15:10right and people are deemed to be

1:15:12confident he says

1:15:16not to mention those who are weak.

1:15:21And how much of these illusions and

1:15:24imaginations led to

1:15:27which is

1:15:29dumbness

1:15:31and madness. And he mentions

1:15:40and the person who is in a state of

1:15:43uh a space of safety and well-being is

1:15:47the one who Allah granted wellbeing and

1:15:50the one who Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala

1:15:53granted the understanding

1:15:55to strive against himself in moments

1:15:59like these.

1:16:04to attain beneficial means which

1:16:06strengthen

1:16:10and which boards off anxieties and he

1:16:13mentions the verse

1:16:21and he cites [clears throat] the

1:16:22evidence for this that whooever lies

1:16:25upon Allah Allah will be sufficient for

1:16:27him. This is a verse which allahel

1:16:30revealed to Muhammad and by extension

1:16:34this and allahel

1:16:40Allah never ever breaks his promise. So

1:16:43if Allah put this as a condition because

1:16:46this is

1:16:49this is the condition that whomsoever

1:16:54relies upon Allah as he ought to be

1:16:57relied upon.

1:17:00This is the condition. The

1:17:03the response to the condition is Allah

1:17:05says

1:17:09Allah will suffice this person. And

1:17:11Abdman

1:17:13being a mufasman

1:17:16wrote on this topic of

1:17:19this is psychology right from an Islamic

1:17:21perspective but he was a scholar in his

1:17:24own right and he was a muer.

1:17:27He said,

1:17:32he said, "Well, this means that Allah

1:17:34will be sufficient for the person with

1:17:37regards to all the things which concern

1:17:39him

1:17:42in matters of his religion." And this is

1:17:44the first thing

1:17:47and his worldly life. Allah will be

1:17:50sufficient for him with regards to

1:17:51everything.

1:17:59So the one who has reliance upon Allah

1:18:01and is described as being a person of

1:18:05he says he is he is the one who has a

1:18:08strong heart and

1:18:12and he is not affected by his

1:18:16imaginations. His imagination does not

1:18:18have effect upon his his

1:18:25means.

1:18:27And nor is he moved and disturbed by

1:18:31calamities which might be a affect him

1:18:34based upon his knowledge that this would

1:18:37only be from a weak self

1:18:44and that this is a type of fear for

1:18:47which there is no reality. A type of

1:18:50fear for which there is no reality.

1:18:53He mentions

1:19:00and he also knows that allahel has

1:19:03promised and taken upon himself

1:19:07with regard to the one who relies upon

1:19:09him

1:19:12that allahel will grant him sufficiency

1:19:16complete sufficiency

1:19:21and he trusts in Allah.

1:19:23and

1:19:25he is contented with Allah's promises.

1:19:30By way of this his despair is moved and

1:19:33his anxieties is lifted

1:19:38and his difficulty is changed to ease

1:19:43and that his despair is replaced with

1:19:46happiness

1:19:49and his fear becomes filled with safety

1:19:52and security.

1:19:55He says, "We ask allahel for a Allah

1:19:59subhanahu wa ta'ala confers upon us

1:20:02strongh

1:20:05and that he strengthens us with

1:20:09perfect

1:20:11for which allahel has promised its

1:20:14people all types of goodness and also

1:20:17move from them all types of makru and

1:20:21all types of difficulties and

1:20:24so Abdul Razak

1:20:26He mentioned one point in relation to

1:20:30he says look at the person and look at

1:20:33the guidance of the prophet sallallam

1:20:36with regards to the person who leaves

1:20:38his house.

1:20:41As is reported in the of

1:20:44that prophet said

1:20:50when the when the person leaves his home

1:20:53and he says and this is the dua for

1:20:55leaving the house who knows the dua

1:21:02No,

1:21:20whoever leaves his house and he says

1:21:26these four

1:21:28these four phrases, he gets the

1:21:30following reward.

1:21:34A caller from the heavens and calls out.

1:21:36Some scholars say it is Allah and some

1:21:38scholars say it is the angels. The

1:21:40angels call out.

1:21:44You are guided.

1:21:46You are sufficed.

1:21:48You are protected.

1:21:52Andan flees from this person.

1:21:57And other devils then say

1:22:02what can you do with a person

1:22:07what can you do with a person who has

1:22:09been guided by Allah who has been

1:22:11sufficed and who has been protected and

1:22:14the shaitan flees away from this person.

1:22:18[snorts]

1:22:19So she abd mentions

1:22:22you it is said to him you are guided you

1:22:26are sufficed and you are protected.

1:22:28Firstly the person attains

1:22:31and means here guidance to everything

1:22:34that the person loves from the time he

1:22:36leaves his home up until he returns.

1:22:41is that he is given sufficiency with

1:22:44regards to whatever he sets out for from

1:22:47the time he leaves up until he returns.

1:22:49He is sufficed by Allah and he's given

1:22:53protection from everything which he

1:22:55fears

1:22:58of harm

1:23:00and

1:23:02that he's given everything with regards

1:23:03to his religious matters and his worldly

1:23:05matters up until he returns. So says

1:23:12that reliance upon Allah strength

1:23:19and when this strength enters the heart

1:23:22then these ailments and these diseases

1:23:25such as depression and anxiety it is

1:23:28lifted. It is lifted.

1:23:44And then he even [clears throat] says

1:23:44that when these type of thoughts come to

1:23:46the person who has relies upon allahel

1:23:49the person then says

1:23:55that nothing can be affect us except

1:23:59what allahel has destined and written

1:24:04for us. Now and this is the chapter

1:24:08concerning

1:24:11with a great which is a great means

1:24:12amongst the means which allahel has

1:24:15given us in our religion to ward off

1:24:17from us worry grief and distress. We ask

1:24:21Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to make us

1:24:24from amongst those who find sufficiency

1:24:26in him with regards to all of our

1:24:28affairs.

1:24:50What can I give you?

1:24:52I can't give you love and blessing.
