Introduction

0:00It felt good to give my sister a present

0:03with some of my performance rewards.

0:05For Christmas I gave her one of my

0:08payouts from FundedNext I gave it to

0:09her for Christmas shopping.

0:11After a while when you're trading you

0:13don't really get obsessed about losing.

0:18I don't think trading

0:18should dominate your life.

0:20I think if you're doing it properly it

0:24should add to your life.

0:25It should hopefully allow

0:28you to have more freedom.

0:30If you have a strategy that works you

0:32should be able to work from anywhere.

Daniel's background and college life

0:47My name is Daniel, I'm from Cork.

0:49Mystery is in Cork.

0:50It's like a small enough town around an

0:53hour from Cork City.

0:54I'm in college in Dublin.

0:56I'm in management science

0:57and information systems.

0:59I'm in fourth year.

1:00Management science

1:00and information systems.

1:01It's like a mixture of

1:03maths and computer science.

1:06I think that helped

1:07me a lot with trading.

1:09The stuff I learnt in my course.

Getting into trading

1:12I've always been interested in stuff like

1:14betting and stuff like that.

1:17I kind of just started looking at crypto

1:21currencies on TradingView.

1:23I started testing all the

1:23different strategies out.

1:25Some of them actually worked very well.

1:28I just started playing around with loads

1:29of different strategies on TradingView.

1:32They're very simple strategies but I made

1:36ones that were a

1:37little bit more complicated.

1:38They worked a lot better.

1:39Even the ones on TradingView worked

1:41fairly well on a lot of

1:43crypto currencies a few years ago.

The role of discipline and the gym

1:45I think the gym probably helped me in

1:46this for trading futures.

1:49Maybe sticking to a plan and

1:51following it for a few months.

1:53Seeing all your hard

1:56work turn into results.

1:57It's a bit like

1:58trading, following your plan.

2:01Even every month you should probably be

2:03up with your opinion.

2:04I suppose they're similar that way.

2:08Also maybe being sick

2:09helped me to be resilient.

Being resilient and the importance of probability

2:13I think it's good to be

2:13resilient with trading.

2:15Even if you do everything

2:17right you can still lose money.

2:19Maybe on my course I learned a little bit

2:22about probability and stuff like that.

2:25I think that's probably a good way to go

2:27looking at trading

2:28with probability mindsets.

2:31I learned it on my course so I was just

2:34lucky to be exposed to that.

2:36It's probably just the probability and

2:38stuff I learned from my course.

2:40I was diagnosed with cancer when I was

Cancer diagnosis and perspective shift

2:42around 21 so probably that.

2:45I had to take a year out of college and

2:47do chemotherapy and all that stuff.

2:53But at the same time I had a lot of time

2:54at home and I couldn't get a job.

2:56So I had loads of

2:57time to focus on trading.

2:59Yeah it was Lymphoma.

3:02That's not the worst one to get but I

3:04would probably still rather get it.

3:06So I had 12 rounds of chemo and now I'm

3:10on ground now again it's

3:12fairly curable cancer to have.

3:15Just before I was 21, yeah just before

3:17Christmas at 25th [inaudible]

3:19It was six months on chemotherapy and

3:23what you'd see would be

3:25this kind of worn down.

3:27So probably took another six months to

3:28get back to normal afterwards.

3:30So maybe a year in total

3:32from when I was diagnosed.

3:35I would say it kind of

3:36puts things into perspective.

3:37Like if you have a bad day trading or

3:40something and you lose a bunch of money.

3:44I suppose maybe it taught me to not

3:48really care too much.

3:50I'd be able to get over stuff for that.

3:53I wouldn't be too bothered

3:53if I had a bad day of trading.

3:56Because maybe being that sick probably

3:58helped me to get things

3:59into perspective I think.

4:01My first performance reward

Performance rewards and FundedNext

4:03from FundedNext Futures,

4:05I can't remember probably like $1500 or

4:09something like that.

4:11But since August I think I've received I

4:18think $103,000 in

4:20performance rewards from FundedNext.

4:23So I think it's just down

4:26to following good strategy.

4:29And even throughout those few months I

4:33had a lot of losing weeks.

4:35But as soon as my sample size of trades

4:38got big enough I always ended up reaching

4:42new highs in my payout.

4:45It felt very good to receive my first

4:47reward from FundedNext.

4:49I suppose it was nice that FundedNext

4:54are very trustworthy and

4:57they're a legitimate company.

4:59And they'll always pay you.

5:03It was nice to see that all the hard work

5:06I put into my strategy

5:08was paying off in real life.

5:11How did I spend my performance reward?

Financial impact and personal goals

5:14I just saved this and reinvested it into

5:19more challenges to gain

5:22access to more funding.

5:24I didn't really buy. I haven't bought

5:27anything besides my food.

5:30And investing into more challenges with

5:33the performance

5:33rewards I've gotten so far.

5:35But I'll help it to pay for expenses

5:38while I'm at college.

5:40It felt good to pay my own rent and to

5:42take a burden off my parents.

5:46It was very nice of my parents to pay for

5:49my college and everything like that.

5:54It felt good to give my sister a present

5:57with some of my performance rewards.

5:59For Christmas I gave her one of my

6:02payouts from FundedNext.

6:03I gave it to her for Christmas shopping.

6:06She was delighted at buying stuff off

6:08closed websites online.

Trading strategy and analytical approach

6:12I don't really trade support and

6:15resistance and turning points.

6:19I think a lot of people

6:20trade stuff like that.

6:21I think that's a very subjective way to

6:24trade because one person thinks his

6:26support on a chart, someone else might

6:29think it's resistance.

6:32That's not the

6:33approach I take to trading.

6:35The approach I take to

6:37trading is very analytical.

6:45I test everything on my computer. I use

6:49Python and stuff like

6:50that to back test strategies.

6:53I don't just draw lines on a

6:55chart or anything like that.

6:57I try to work out my exact edge.

7:02I don't really use support and

7:03resistance. That's

7:05not the strategy I use.

7:07A typical day in my life

A typical day in the life

7:09would be staring in the morning.

7:12I don't really get up that early. I

7:15probably get up at

7:15around maybe 11 or 12 even.

7:21Normally I would turn on the computer

7:24straight away and see how my

7:27trades did from last night.

7:30A lot of the time I either put on some

7:34more trades or see how things are going

7:37and maybe plan on putting on the trades.

7:40I'd probably do that for a few minutes

7:42first after I first get up.

7:45Then I'd make a coffee and drink that.

7:48Then I'd probably get a breakfast after I

7:52do my first 10 minutes straight to bed.

7:56I probably don't really go to too many

7:58lectures at the moment because I spend

8:01most of my time trading and looking at

8:04charts and refining my strategies.

8:09I think that it needs a strict routine in

Routine and executing the strategy

8:12executing your strategy.

8:13I don't think you need to go for cold

8:15showers or anything like this.

8:17I just think that you need to have a

8:18strategy that has an edge.

8:21I think you just need to

8:22execute that strategy perfectly.

8:24I don't think you need to have any strict

8:27routine besides doing

8:29your strategy properly.

8:31I balance classes, trading and gym by not

8:36going to too many classes.

8:37I just look at the notes online or

8:40college posts and notes

8:41onto this online website.

8:43I can just not really go to too many and

8:45catch up then with the online notes.

8:49With the gym I normally go between 9 and

8:5211 when the market is closed

8:54and you can't trade anyway.

8:56I don't think trading

8:57should dominate your life.

8:59I think if you're doing it properly it

9:02should add to your life.

9:04It should hopefully allow

9:06you to have more freedom.

9:09If you have a strategy that works you

9:10should be able to work from anywhere.

9:13Maybe you could use trading to allow you

9:15to travel or else to have

9:17maybe financial freedom.

9:20You can make a lot of money with trading.

9:23I think it should allow you to either get

9:25more financial freedom or

9:27else freedom of where you work.

Weekends and switching off

9:30When the weekends in the markets are

9:33closed or in the army just relax, catch

9:36up with some college work.

9:39Sometimes I just relax and do nothing.

9:44Go to the gym and do college work.

9:46I do switch off from trading mentality.

9:50I suppose you'd be

9:51thinking about it a lot.

9:53Thinking about a new

9:54strategy that might work.

9:56Or not even trading, you might be

9:57thinking about some

9:58other sort of strategy.

10:02Maybe on poker or maybe not poker but on

10:05some prediction site you might be

10:07thinking about some

10:08way you can get an edge.

10:10I suppose it would always

10:11be in the back of your mind.

10:12But yeah, no I do

10:13switch off on the weekends.

10:15I just think I'm actually curious.

Entrepreneurial background and natural curiosity

10:19I think I've always been entrepreneurial.

10:21I used to sell cookies

10:23in school when I was 10.

10:25I also used to go busking in Proxity.

10:29And I used the money to

10:30buy these little motorbikes.

10:33And we live out in the country so we used

10:35to, there's like a

10:36wind farm near a house.

10:37We used to drive around the wind farm

10:39with the motorbikes we

10:40bought for our busking.

10:42I also used to buy drones online and make

10:47videos of them and

10:48upload them to YouTube.

10:50I bought a furnace as well online and

10:53melted down scrap copper

10:55from the recycling centre.

10:57And made like bronze swords and stuff.

10:59So I just think I've actually always been

11:02curious and entrepreneurial and like

11:05trying out new things.

Monitoring and updating strategies

11:07I'm not really sure exactly what that

11:08question means but if that means how

11:10often do I change my edge?

11:12I think maybe how often

11:13do I change my strategy?

11:16Well, as long as my strategy is working

11:18then I don't change it.

11:20But if I thought my edge was decaying and

11:25generating less expected value then I'd

11:29probably try and find out why it's making

11:34less expected value.

11:36Is it because something has changed in

11:39America that is making my

11:41strategy not work as well?

11:43I suppose you're constantly monitoring

11:47how it's doing and

11:48changing and updating it.

11:50So I probably do whatever you think about

11:52it. Probably every week.

11:55He's always very curious about different

11:58things and figuring out

11:59how to do different things.

12:03He likes maths and he's

12:06always interested in making money.

Motivations and long-term goals

12:08I didn't think he'd make any money.

12:10When I saw him making as much money then

12:13that motivated me to start as well.

12:16Did I believe in his edge early on? No, I

12:18didn't think you knew

12:19what he was doing early on.

12:21Because most people lose all the money

12:23doing this. So no, I didn't.

12:26How different are my thoughts?

12:29Well, now I guess they're pretty similar.

12:32What makes Daniel

12:33different from most people?

12:36I suppose maybe he's better at finding

12:40new things than other people and maybe

12:44thinking independently.

12:48He comes up with his own mind instead of

12:50listening to how other

12:53people might say to do something.

12:56My goal in life is probably to just make

13:01enough money to be

13:03financially free from the immune.

13:07And then once I have enough maybe

13:09investors and I don't

13:12know, I'll see what I do then.

13:14I suppose it would be nice to have

13:15financial freedom anyway.

Discipline, consistency, and trading mindset

13:18If you're following a good routine in the

13:20gym and you're doing things right, you'll

13:24see the right decisions you're making

13:28will convert into good

13:30progress over months.

13:33Especially years longer you do it.

13:35It's the exact same with trading. If you

13:36have a good strategy that works, on day

13:39to day you can't really see progress.

13:42When you zoom out to the weeks and the

13:44months, that's when you

13:46see all the progress then.

13:47I suppose discipline can

13:50be applied to many areas.

13:53Discipline is just maybe doing things

13:55that you don't really feel like doing

13:57because you know in the long term it's

13:59probably the best decision.

14:01So in the long term if you want to be fit

14:05and healthy you make the sacrifice to go

14:08to the gym even when you

14:09retire and don't feel like it.

14:10With trading you might close the trades

14:12when it's losing even

14:14though you really don't want to.

14:16Or you might make decisions that it's

14:19just parry for strategy even though you

14:21don't want to do it.

14:22But after a while when you're trading you

14:25don't really get obsessed about losing.

14:29You just know that

14:30that's kind of part of it.

14:31And at the start I used to get a lot more

14:33obsessed when I had days that I lost

14:36money but now I don't

14:37really care as much.

14:39It's got to just parry for the strategy.

14:41Give me to charity.

Giving back

14:43I suppose if I have more than enough then

14:49I suppose I wouldn't mind giving away a

14:51bit of money to people in need.
