0:00hi George Williams founder and CEO of

0:01reliability X for another video within

0:03our cultural domain in today's video

0:06we're going to be talking about

0:07Communications now Communications are

0:10incredibly important uh if you're not

0:12sure just read all of the surveys that

0:15take place within your organization

0:17where people say well people don't

0:18communicate around

0:20here pretty obvious communication is

0:23important so what is communication

0:26communication is the mechanism where

0:28information is disseminated and the

0:30hierarchy in which it is disseminated or

0:33escalated so for communications we want

0:36to make sure things are direct and

0:37transparent for the betterment of the

0:40company often times folks depending on

0:43their position and their ego and all

0:45kinds of other factors either withhold

0:47information don't communicate it

0:49accurately don't communicate it often

0:51enough um or don't communicate at all uh

0:55and so this creates issues within an

0:58organization from an agility persp

1:00perspective and an accuracy of

1:02expectations perspective they're either

1:04not agile because people have to hunt

1:07around for

1:09information uh or they make poor choices

1:11because they don't have all the

1:13information uh or the organization

1:17potentially um doesn't make

1:21progress because people don't under are

1:24not being communicated to and so the

1:26change management process takes a much

1:28longer cycle so we'll walk through some

1:31of that uh effective communication

1:34Fosters collaboration minimizes

1:35misunderstanding so we streamline things

1:38people are informed they can make good

1:40decisions and we can be agile as a

1:42company this is achieved through clear

1:45consistent

1:47messaging active

1:49listening listen to your people and the

1:53use of appropriate channels to relay

1:55information and we'll talk about that in

1:57just a second uh everyone in the

1:59organization from leadership to the shop

2:01floor is is responsible for

2:03communications if you have a morning

2:06meeting where the plant manager is there

2:08and all the lead operators and everyone

2:11says yeah everything's good everything's

2:13good everything's good there's a issue

2:16there there's either a lack of

2:18communication a fear to communicate lots

2:21of things can cause a communication

2:23blockages and we want to be mindful of

2:26that a couple of aspects from a

2:28communication perspective

2:30understand the channels what's the

2:32hierarchy of communication how is it

2:34disseminated throughout the organization

2:36and how are things escalated within the

2:39organization and no one should be uh

2:42disciplined or

2:44fear

2:46Communication open honest transparent

2:49communication is critical for an

2:51organization's success different styles

2:54understand how you communicate how do

2:55you communicate to leadership versus how

2:57do you communicate to the shop floor uh

3:00how do we you know the Styles in which

3:02we communicate can make or break our

3:04success especially when we're trying to

3:07get uh alignment on things or get

3:10support for

3:11initiatives what type of media or

3:14platforms how will you communicate is it

3:17via a team space and chats or is it a

3:21text message an email do we have formal

3:23meetings is it through a one-on-one

3:25meeting all those different styles or

3:28media styles uh for communication the

3:31Cadence of communication is important

3:33how often do we have to send this type

3:35of

3:36message things like the vision mission

3:39and values should be all the time the

3:42reason a safety program works is not

3:44because they demand that you be safe

3:46it's because they are consistently

3:48communicating the message in hopes that

3:51subliminally you will always be thinking

3:54about safety that should be no different

3:57with setting a vision mission and Valu

3:59of an organization and its communication

4:03to make that happen and come to fruition

4:06is about its Cadence how often are we

4:08driving that message and then Integrity

4:11of communication it must be transparent

4:14and uniform

4:16messaging all for the betterment of the

4:19organization uh so communication has

4:22lots of different aspects and you can

4:24build communication strategies as part

4:26of the change management process change
