0:00what would you do if i told you pretty
0:03soon
0:04you're going to be able to buy a product
0:06for 1700 bucks
0:09that'll give you 11 channels of
0:10processing four independent subwoofer
0:13outputs and a path to drak upgrade
0:17that's what we're going to be talking
0:18about in today's video

0:32hey folks i'm gene delasallo with
0:34audioholics so we're continuing the
0:37information that's leaking out on the
0:38sound united products that have been on
0:41the various forums
0:42a new product from den in a new av
0:44receiver the avr x 3800 h
0:49seems to be coming out pretty soon it's
0:51going to be announced at cedia we've got
0:53some screenshots here of the box that
0:56was uh put on our forum you could see
0:58here the model number and some of the
1:00features
1:01like the 9.4 channel
1:03av amplifier so it has nine internal
1:05amplifiers
1:07four independent subwoofer outputs
1:10and the upgrade path to drak which seems
1:12to be something that's happening with
1:14most of the newer sound united products
1:16now this is very exciting the fact that
1:18we're getting new av receivers from
1:19denon and marantz that not only support
1:22odyssey for legacy users that like
1:24odyssey but now if you want to take it
1:26up a notch
1:27and you want to get more into a
1:29calibration system that has more
1:30configurability then you're going to
1:32have an upgrade path to drac with these
1:34new products so what i want to do is
1:37share my screen here and just go over
1:39this little preview article that i put
1:41together and obviously we're going to be
1:43at cedia at the end of the month we're
1:45going to be doing live streams at the
1:46sound united booth so we're going to be
1:48covering this in more detail and any
1:50information here that's not 100
1:52confirmed i will update at that time so
1:55right now some of this is a rumor mill
1:56but some of it is based on a preliminary
1:59press release that i've seen
2:01so we covered the marantz separates the
2:03av-10 and the amp 10. those look really
2:06promising but what do you do when you're
2:07trying to get a processor and you don't
2:09want to spend seven grand or even five
2:12grand
2:13but you want to get into separates
2:15well
2:16you can use an av receiver if it has
2:18preamp outputs but it has to have good
2:20preamp outputs
2:22and over the years i've tested
2:24all of the latest generations of denon
2:26and marantz receivers and i've always
2:28found that they've had really strong
2:30preamp outputs in fact most recently i
2:33tested the marantz sr 8015 and i think i
2:36tested an older denon
2:39they all had four mil four volts rms
2:42output unclipped
2:44and that's great because
2:46most modern home theater amplifiers
2:48let's say i have a gain of 26 they
2:50usually have a gain of 29 db
2:52if they have a gain of 26 db then you
2:55can get about 200 watts with a 2 volt
2:57rms signal driving that kind of an
2:59amplifier or if it has a gain of 29 db
3:02and the amplifier is capable of
3:03producing 400 watts you could drive that
3:05at 2 volts so the fact that these
3:08products are giving you 4 volts rms
3:10opens up the opportunity to drive
3:11amplifiers with a lower gain structure
3:14or amplifiers that have a much higher
3:16output vol power
3:18so definitely the preamp outputs on this
3:20is solid you know it's going to be solid
3:22some of the features i want to go over
3:23with you so this denon has
3:25nine internal amplifiers built in
3:28and now they're claiming
3:30i hate when they do this they do this
3:32180 watts six ohms one kilohertz one
3:35percent one channel driven on tuesday
3:37you know we've we've covered this topic
3:39to death it's a bogus number the reality
3:42is this receiver is probably good for
3:44125 maybe 130 watts a channel with two
3:47channels driven and then with the
3:49marantz and denon uh 70 rule
3:52you should be able to hit those power
3:54numbers with at least five channels
3:55driven i've tested marantz receivers and
3:57denim receivers that hit their 70 figure
4:00with up to seven channels driven so you
4:02should get a solid maybe 100 watts a
4:05little under 100 watts with five to
4:06seven channels driven on it so
4:09good for most people but the fact that
4:11you have nine 11 channels of processing
4:14you could either reroute some of these
4:16amplifiers to use them for the height
4:18channels and then put an external amp
4:20for your
4:21ear level or floor level channels
4:2311 channels of processing opens you up
4:25to the fact that you can now do seven
4:27bed layer
4:28speakers
4:30and four high channels or you could do
4:32wides if you don't do is if you don't do
4:34back so you have a lot of options here
4:36but the really cool thing is the four
4:38independent subwoofer outputs
4:41and why is that important
4:43well in order to get the best modal
4:45control in your room you really need
4:47multiple subwoofers we talk about this
4:49all the time two subs are better than
4:51one four subs are better than two
4:54but in most budget products you only
4:57have one or maybe two subwoofer outputs
4:59and they typically are paralleled output
5:00so you can't adjust the delay and the
5:02trim independently so a lot of people
5:04would go to a product like a mini dsp
5:07plug it into the subwoofer output of
5:08their receiver and they'll do all their
5:10base management time delays eq and all
5:12that stuff in that external box well
5:15with a product like this with four
5:17independent subwoofer outputs you don't
5:19need that mini dsp anymore you could do
5:21all of this in the avr and i don't know
5:23of a cheaper way for seventeen hundred
5:25dollars for a processor that gives you
5:28four independent subwoofer outputs
5:30gives you 11 channels of processing it
5:32gives you all the immersive surround
5:33formats dolby atmos dts x oral 3d
5:37it gives you a preamp disconnect mode
5:40and there's rumors that you could you
5:42could potentially turn off all of the
5:44amplifier channels i don't know if
5:46that's true this is something i want to
5:47confirm when i'm at sound united but
5:49either way you could bypass those
5:51amplifiers and you could use your own
5:53external amplification and then the hdmi
5:56is 2.1 supports 40 gigabits on every
5:59input so it's not like you just have one
6:00specific input every single input
6:02supports 2.1 so if you're a gamer in
6:05xbox or playstation
6:08this receiver will work just fine with
6:09that based on what i'm seeing here
6:12um the drak upgrade ability is a really
6:14nice touch
6:17and then there's a rumor and i don't
6:18want to really
6:20i didn't want to really report this
6:22because i don't know if it's
6:22substantiated or not but i saw this is
6:24from our forum that someone from audio
6:27science review posted the biggest news
6:29according to the insider at dnm which is
6:31they're not dnm anymore they're
6:34uh
6:35massimo
6:36have worked with drock to offer the
6:38first ever dynamic eq and dynamic volume
6:40of odyssey side by side with drax live
6:43up until now no avp with the wreck has
6:46dynamic eq capability dolby volume is
6:49limited to dolby only content
6:52so
6:53take what you will with that that you
6:55know that could be a rumor or it could
6:56be factual we will find out in a couple
6:58of weeks with what they're trying to say
7:00is you could use
7:01some of the elements of odyssey in
7:02conjunction with uh
7:04drac which would be interesting i've
7:06never seen anything like that so the
7:08bottom line here guys if you're looking
7:10to get into the separates market
7:12this might be your solution for 1700
7:14bucks you're getting state of the art
7:16hdmi 2.1 four independent subwoofer
7:19outputs two room correction systems and
7:21a strong preamp out four volts rms
7:24clean that'll drive virtually any home
7:26theater amplifier into clipping if you
7:28wanted to do that so give me your
7:30comments down below is this the receiver
7:32you're going to be looking at in 2023
7:34are you going to use it with external
7:36amplification as a separate killer or or
7:38a budget-friendly separate solution
7:42give me some comments down below any
7:43questions you have and i'll try to get
7:45them answered when i'm at cedia in a few
7:47weeks
