0:12rugby is one of England's most popular
0:14sports and is played by people of all
0:17ages shapes and sizes male and
0:21female this animation teaches you about
0:23the main laws of rugby so you can have
0:26more fun watching or playing this great
0:28game
0:31you play rugby in a jersey shorts and
0:34boots with studs and you wear a mouth
0:37guard to protect your teeth the ball is
0:40an oval shape and looks a bit like an
0:42egg because rugby originated in England
0:46there are a lot of English
0:48Expressions there are two versions of
0:50rugby Rugby Union and rugby league this
0:54film is about Rugby Union the most
0:56popular version of rugby around the
0:58world the rugby pitch is about the same
1:01size as a football pitch on the pitch
1:04there are a number of lines we start
1:07from the halfway line from this line the
1:10game is started or restarted after a
1:13score next is the 10 m line after the
1:17kickoff the ball must cross this line
1:21then there is the 22 M line next is the
1:24try line behind this line you can score
1:28A Try by touching the ball down
1:30down on the TR line are the rugby posts
1:34two vertical posts and a
1:36crossbar the last line is the dead ball
1:39line and marks the end of the field on
1:42the sides you find the 5 m line and the
1:4515 M line during a line out the players
1:48must stay between these lines a game is
1:522 halves of 40 minutes and has a
1:55halftime break of about 10 minutes a
1:58rugby team has 15 players players eight
2:01of them are called the forwards these
2:03guys form the scrum and line out and do
2:06the more heavy work next you have seven
2:09players called The Backs and they do
2:11most of the fast
2:13running the scrum half connects the
2:15forwards and the backs the last man is
2:18the full back you play rugby with your
2:21hands and feet most of the time you
2:24carry the ball in your hands but rugby
2:27is a team sport so you pass the ball to

2:32only allowed to pass backwards you do
2:35this mainly by an underhand throw across
2:38the body but if you wish to you can pass
2:40overhand too you may pass as much as you
2:45want if you decide to kick the ball you
2:48may do so usually to gain territory

3:08there are several ways to score points
3:11the most important way is to score a try
3:14you score a try when you place the ball
3:16on the ground on or behind the try line
3:19of your
3:20opposition the result is Five
3:23Points because you scored a try your
3:25team may also attempt to kick the ball
3:27from the ground but it must carry
3:30between the posts and above the
3:32crossbar this is called a conversion and
3:35awards your team an extra two points so
3:38together you score seven points should
3:41the referee award you a penalty kick

6:51that you can stop players by tackling
6:54but can only tackle a player who is in
6:56possession of the ball you're only
6:58allowed to use your hands arms and body
7:02you can grab the man with the ball
7:03everywhere except his neck and head you
7:07are not allowed to kick him or tackle
7:09him while he's in the
7:11air if you do the referee will send you
7:13off the field immediately by issuing a
7:16yellow or red card the most common way
7:19to tackle is using the shoulder and arms
7:21targeting an opposition player below the
7:24waist so he falls to the ground

7:38during the game you will often see two
7:40situations a rock and mole but what are
7:44these suppose a player carrying the ball
7:47makes contact with a player who wants to
7:49tackle him but instead of falling on the
7:52ground they keep standing up immediately
7:56teammates of both teams will join this
7:58formation to Pat for the ball which will
8:00be somewhere in the middle this
8:02formation is called a
8:04mall the man with the ball will try to
8:07turn his back to his opponents and make
8:09the ball available for his
8:11teammates if a moall takes too long the
8:14referee will award a scrum in favor of
8:16the team moving forward

8:36a rock is formed after the man with the
8:38ball is tackled and the players fall on
8:41the ground during this situation two
8:44very important rules come into play the
8:47man who made the tackle must let go of
8:49the tackled player and the man who is
8:52tackled must release the ball
8:55immediately players of both teams will
8:57bind as a unit with each other over the
9:00ball group and compete to win the ball
9:02with their feet and pushing back the
9:04opposing

9:16players there are several ways to be
9:18offside one of the most common ways is
9:21during a mall when players are competing
9:23to get possession of the ball or to stop
9:26them all being driven towards the tri
9:28line
9:30the offside line starts at the heel of
9:33the foot of the last person in the mall
9:35and runs across the field from touchline
9:37to
9:38touchline no one can enter the mall
9:41unless they do so from behind that
9:43player's
9:45foot though rugby is a physical and
9:48sometimes tough sport a rugby player
9:50always respects his opponent and the
9:53referee whatever the referee decides you
9:56will never contest their decision or
9:58risk being penalized
10:00after every game you pay your respects
10:02to your opponents and the referee by
10:05applauding them when they leave the
10:06field respect and sportsmanship are two
10:09of the most important values of Rugby
